Despite their brutality and fanaticism exceeding the Sith's, the Imperials aren't being willfully malicious or cruel, just ''[[KnightTemplar deeply]]'' [[ObliviouslyEvil misguided]] and [[PoorCommunicationKills misinformed]] after being tossed into an [[WrongGenreSavvy unfamiliar setting that operates on different rules from their own.]] Yes, the Imperials are explicitly trying to conquer the ''Star Wars'' galaxy and commit a bevy of atrocities along the way, but they only do so out of the ''genuine'' belief that it's [[NecessarilyEvil necessary to survive]] and keep humanity safe. By contrast, the Sith are [[CardCarryingVillain fully aware their actions are evil]] and causing harm to innocents -- and either [[LackOfEmpathy don't care]] or [[{{Sadist}} get a sick thrill from it]]. Unlike the Imperium, the Sith seek galactic domination not because they think it's in anyone's best interests, but primarily to [[ItsAllAboutMe massage their own egos]]. So far, there have been two instances in the series where the Sith have actively joined the battlefield -- Count Dooku vs. a Space Marine squad on Raxus Secundus and [[spoiler:Darth Sidious vs. a rogue Lord Inquisitor on Axum.]] In both instances, the Sith win handily and defeat their Imperial opponents.

* ''[[Fanfic/StarWarsVsWarhammer40K Star Wars vs Warhammer 40K]]'': As a whole, the Imperium of Man is by far a much deadlier enemy by multiple factors compared to the Confederacy of Independent Systems that the Galactic Republic was used to fighting. They are more willing to commit atrocities far worse than the CIS is (at least openly). This is made worse by the fact that the bulk of the Imperium's forces are true believers, including their higher-ups, whereas the CIS higher-ups often have ulterior motives such as profit or power. It only takes the Imperium weeks to destroy the Confederate capital and seemingly kill General Grievous, something that canonically took the Republic several grueling years to similarly accomplish.
