** As for Set-Def, while they made a strong start, it bit them in the ass hard. Despite having the numerical and technological advantage, they were continually defeated by a just few SATO special forcecs soldiers--over, and over, and over again. Depending on the player's performance, this resulted in Set-Def losing most (or all) of their top pilots and officers, their most advanced weapons, their entire fleet, their leader (and his flagship), their main base of operations, and ultimately the war. Worst of all, this all happened in one day.

** The second opening level has the United Nations Space Alliance hold a parade of their entire SATO space fleet over Geneva, Switzerland. They do this in spite of the blatant evidence They saw a video recording of three of their soldiers killed by Salen Kotch and his men, as well as mentions of something called "Operation RIAH." that their enemy, the Settlement Defense Front, are planning to launch a full-scale invasion on Earth. They also fail to notice that one of their high-ranking staff is actually a mole working for Set-Def, allowing him to destroy Earth's vessels with their own laser cannons. This huge breach in security results in a Set-Def invasion that destroys the whole town and kills hundreds, if not thousands of Earth's citizens and soldiers. Nearly all of SATO's fleet is destroyed, with only a handful of ships and personnel remaining. The only reason they won the war was because Commander Nick Reyes pulled the remaining fleet together and launched a successful campaign against Set-Def's held planets.

* In VideoGame/PaperMario64, there's one moment in particular that is pretty pathetic and humorous. When Mario and his friends are in the Ice Palace, Mario encounters Duplighosts, which imitate Mario and whichever member he has out.
