** ''Literature/TheSilmarillion'': Morgoth Bauglir is very hesitant to risk his own life and fleeing from lesser enemies. He alone among the Valar knew fear, putting him at great disadvantage to the other Valar. It's probably because he knows that unlike other Valar, he won't be re-embodied if he dies. The fact that the injuries he suffers [[WoundThatWillNotHeal no longer heal]] is probably also a factor.

** Princess Alessia is a massive bitch who looks down on non-human entities and seeks their extermination. The moment her life is in danger, she starts to panic with a fearful face and beg for mercy. When Kaito has his back turned to her, she attempts to burn him with a fireball only for him to make it backfire by kicking her in the stomach.
** After Minaris turned Lucia's village into zombies she breaks down and apologizes while also begging Minaris to spare her even after she betrayed Minaris and turned everyone against her. Minaris just brushes this off as she sees that this is sincere and revels in seeing Lucia's cowardice and death.
** When Kirel sees that Minaris killed her father and stepmother, he immediately shows fear in his face as he just goes on saying Minaris really is evil before she curses him to die a slow painful death begging it to stop and let him live.
** As soon as Minaris was outed as being a demi-human her father didn't try to defend her and instead disowns her and lies to the public just to save himself and save face, Minaris after that completely hates him for his cowardice.
** After her husband is killed by Minaris, the stepmother immediately tries to reason with Minaris to save herself and beg for her life, but Minaris isn't having it after she was the one who was the most malicious to Minaris and her mother when they were outed as Demi humans.
* Literature/TheHeroWhoSeeksRevengeShallExterminateWithDarkness:
** Princess Victoria has Raul's family and village slaughtered, then puts Raul through hell before having him executed, but the very second she's in danger, she begs for help when she's about to get retribution. Suffice to say, even daddy was having none of her crap and revoked her status as a princess.
** At first the God of Hell presents himself as an all-powerful and stoic warrior [[BadBoss who was cruel towards his own cronies]]. But when he met Raul Evans and the moment he's on death's door himself, he pathetically sheds his godly persona and begged Raul to spare him.

* Literature/CiaphasCain ([[FakeUltimateHero HERO OF THE IMPERIUM!!]]) claims to be this, scrambling for cover whenever the shooting starts and only doing his job [[ProfessionalSlacker when it makes things more comfortable for him]]. Many people (including his editor) think that he really doesn't give himself much credit and that at least some of his heroic deeds are genuine, and even if they're not, his unerring instinct for heading towards the area least likely to see combat is always rewarded by uncovering a hitherto-undiscovered ambush, unexplored backdoor into the base (and Necron tomb), and daemon prince summonings.
