* Having initially discussed a remake of Film/WhenWorldsCollide since the 70s, producers Richard Zanuck and David Brown discover in 1993, that Steven Spielberg has bought the rights to Creator/ArthurCClarke's The Hammer of God and met with him to discuss the potential of merging the two projects. Although Spielberg is amendable to the idea, the movie languishes for two more years, prompting Zanuck to walk out of the project, only for Spielberg to approach Kenneth Branagh with a copy of the script while working on A Darkness Rising. This leads to Branagh appointed as director, with Spielberg and Brown as the producers, with Creator/AmblinEntertainment producing and Universal Pictures distributing 1999's The Rogue Planet (renamed and reworked after Frank Darabont is brought in, with Arthur C. Clarke receiving a credit for the story despite the film having evolved into not being merely a film of his book). Set in 1997, the film stars Creator/IdrisElba as radio astronomer Angus Millar, who discovers a "rogue planet" named Nibiru which will pass close to Earth, estimated to cause severe changes to the planet, as well as Creator/BillyBobThornton's NASA Administrator Ray Perry, his wife Robin (played by Creator/VanessaRedgrave), his eldest son Charlie (played by Creator/ElijahWood), his youngest daughter Lottie (played by Creator/KateWinslet) and her boyfriend Brain (played by Creator/MattDamon), Angus' wife Lorna (played by Creator/NaomieHarris), astronaut Robert Singh (played by Creator/RicardoMontalbán), President of the United States Thomas Beck (played by Creator/MorganFreeman), Sir Patrick Moore as himself and Arthur C. Clarke in a cameo as Dr. Hammer.

Hammer.

* The Franchise/StarTrek movies don't change instantly at first, with only Film/StarTrekIVTheVoyageHome casting Creator/EddieMurphy in it as the marine biologist. But the plot changes in Film/StarTrekVTheFinalFrontier, with Sybok's cult having captured Spock due to their belief that his resurrection in Wrath of Khan makes Spock their messiah. Then in Star Trek VI: The Last Voyage, comes a time-travel crossover plot involving the Borg and the crews of USS Enterprise-A and USS Enterprise-D, where . This is then followed by 1993's Star Trek: Point of No Return, which ties in with the TV series' , 1996's Star Trek: Timeless, which includes a Literature/HeartOfDarkness plot, only more comical and including Riker's doppelgänger (ideas that Michael Piller and Rick Berman had, in OTL, planned for Insurrectionthe evil twin plot being recycled for Film/StarTrekNemesis) and 1998's Star Trek: Defiance, which features the Star Trek: Envoy crew as it's main cast (with a couple of TNG cameos).
* While Film/TheEmpireStrikesBack is still the same as OTL due to it's production being pre-Point of Divergence, the third Franchise/StarWars movie is changed significantly, with Lamont Johnson directing instead of Richard Marquand, and Lucasfilm intern Lisa Henson throwing in a couple of ideas, such as the title Legacy of the Jedi, suggesting that the Ewaak design be more "Lemur-like" and talking Lucas out of making Leia Luke's twin sister (but retaining her force-sensitivity). Also, the location is switched from Endor, to the Imperial capital of Had Abbadon (as was planned in OTL in an earlier draft of Return of the Jedi) and the moon of Sicemon, while the Emperor's throne room is located beneath the surface of Had Abbadon, filled with lava (implied to be similar to the Ralph [=McQuarrie=] concept art), for the Death Star is removed from the film entirely, with the shield generator instead protecting Had Abbadon. Other changes include that the Ewaaks are accompanied by "bands of savage raiders", consisted of various species formerly enslaved by the Empire, and that Johnson convinces Lucas to have Creator/DavidProwse portray the unmasked Anniken instead of Sebastian Shaw ("to save time and money").
** The Star Wars prequels start off, with A Darkness Rising, directed by Creator/StevenSpielberg, and launching in 1997. With the involvement of Lisa Henson (now the Fox chairman), Creator/FrankDarabont and Spielberg, the film has Obi-Wan Kenobi (a Jedi Knight in TTL, portrayed by Creator/KennethBranagh) encounter Anniken Skywalker (aged to 13 years old TTL and portrayed by Creator/ZacheryTyBryan) and his mother Shmi (portrayed by Creator/LyndaCarter) rather early on as slaves on the Sha'anar Trade Guild ship (eschewing Tatooine and the pod-race scene entirely), as well as changing the planet of Nima and it's capital of Oxon due to Lucasfilm having already made Dinotopia in TTLDinotopia having influenced the city of Theed in OTL. Creator/AleksaPalladino portrays Queen Padme Amidala of the Nimoida, while Creator/BenicioDelToro portrays Mauk Shivtor (with Creator/RayPark as his stunt double), Music/QueenLatifah as Nassai Baaza of the Roona (TTL's Gungans) and Creator/IanMcKellen as Baron Cetu Thorpe. The third act, has Anniken stay at the Jedi Temple to be trained by Creator/SamuelLJackson's Mace Windu, while Obi-Wan and his "sen-nai", Quigon Djyn (portrayed by Katsuhiko Sasaki) accompany Padme, along with technical savant Ba Ba Yubi (voiced by Creator/HowieMandel) and smuggler Moog Dakra (voiced by Creator/NathanLane), to liberate Nima with Mandalorian mercenaries. Then, in 1999, Episode II: The Hidden Army (the title being a nod to Creator/AkiraKurosawa's Film/TheHiddenFortress) is released, directed by Creator/RobertZemeckis, and in 2001, Episode III: Film/RevengeOfTheSith is released, directed by Creator/RonHoward.
** Then, in 2014, George Lucas launches the Sequel Trilogy, with A Whisper of Fear, directed by Joss Whedon, followed by Duel of the Fates in 2016, directed by Creator/JonFavreau, and The Will of the Force in 2018, directed by Ernest Dickenson.

* Fresh off the success of Kong: King of Skull Island, Peter Jackson and Robert Zemeckis get to work on a 1998 version of Film/CreatureFromTheBlackLagoon which is a serious take on the property. But various studio conflicts lead to Jackson and Zemeckis departing with Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin coming in to replacing them, amping up comedic characters and a take on the Creature more like a twisted dinosaur. Thanks to the terrible new script, effects and on-set behavior of actor Andy Dick, the resulting movie is a total disaster and it takes decades for Universal's monsters to get a second chance.
