There's also how the people who seek to defrost Kyril never know the full extent of his DarkAndTroubledPast, [[spoiler:because said past involves ThingsManWasNotMeantToKnow and he wants to preserve their sanity]].
* ''Fanfic/NobodyDies'': When Shinji met Asuka she was very sheltered, insecure and shy due to her abusive parents. Slowly she warmed up to him, they fallen in love and she became more strong-willed and more self-reliant.
