* BigBadEnsemble: Quite a few groups are vying for the title.
** The [[RightWingMilitiaFanatic Sons of the New Columbia]] are a jingoistic faction seeking to seize control of the North American continent and instill a fundamentalist theocracy.
** The [[KnightTemplar Canadian Federation]] is the remnants of the Canadian government who run a totalitarian state that [[UtopiaJustifiesTheMeans commits atrocities trying to overcome the Segmentation]].
** The [[ApocalypseCult Fractals]], physics researchers driven insane by the Segmentation. They worship the event and seek to replicate it on a grander scale to take the current WorldOfChaos to new heights.
** And finally, [[spoiler:[[GreaterScopeVillain Doctor Bent]], who subtly commands these factions with the hopes that one of them will win... so he can take over when they inevitably break apart]].

Added DiffLines:

* DividedStatesOfAmerica: Most countries have disbanded due to the Improbable Segmentation, but the dissolution of the United States is noteworthy. The former President at the time is currently in power in the Maryland Commonwealth.

* {{Expy}}: [[spoiler:Doctor Bent is directly based on [[WesternAnimation/SpiralZone Overlord]], complete with sharing a similar name]].
* HateSink: No-one likes the Sons of the New Columbia.

''Improbable Segmentation'' is a lighthearted post-apocalyptic adventure <insert medium here> taking place in a world where [[RealityIsOutToLunch the conventional laws of reality have given up trying]], inspired by ''WebAnimation/MadnessCombat'' and ''Series/RedDwarf''.

Most tales of the apocalypse involve [[MutuallyAssuredDestruction nuclear powers going to war]], [[ThePlague super-diseases with nigh-impossible levels of infectivity and lethality]], or [[NaturalDisasterCascade several natural disasters piling up on top of humanity]]. This is not the case here, as the apocalypse in question is ''unnatural'' and unexpected, to say the least. At an unspecified point in the future, what was considered normal reality... broke. The laws of physics across the globe drastically altered, many areas of varying sizes began experiencing their own localized physics anomalies, improbable events suddenly became ''very'' probable, and [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking Dairy Queen started selling actually edible food]].

This event, now known as the [[TitleDrop Improbable Segmentation]], taxed governments around the world to their breaking points, leaving much of the world's population scattered into city-states and lawless wildlands. Many factions have risen up, some taking advantage of the destruction of order to do all manner of unsavory things, others trying to build a stable nation (at least as stable as you can get in the Segmentation), and others still having unknown or just plan bizarre goals and morals.

!! Tropes present in Improbable Segmentation:
* AfterTheEnd: The Improbable Segmentation destroyed most pre-existing governments and threw the world into chaos.
* CosyCatastrophe: The world may be a chaotic hellhole, but it's surprisingly livable. Some settlements have gotten to a pre-Segmentation or better quality of life, and technological development actually ''advanced'' due to the disaster.
* DeathWorld: The post-Segmentation world is teeming with all sorts of threats - areas where the local physics are ''lethal'' to humans, spontaneously and anomalously mutated lifeforms, hostile human powers of varying capabilities, crumbling structures and hazardous conditions...
* EvilTowerOfOminousness: The Chrysler Building. No one actually knows what's ''in'' there, but it seems to control the fractured reality around itself to destroy would-be infiltrators, and the entire building seems to be lit in a permanent red glow that can be seen for miles.
* RealityIsOutToLunch: The best way to describe the Improbable Segmentation. And even with this, there's parts of the world where reality is even ''further'' broken.
* ShoutOut: Various products used by the characters feature a mascot who looks suspiciously like [[VideoGame/DukeNukem a certain Build engine action hero]].
