William Mervyn, born William Mervyn Pickwoad, (3 January 1912 -- 6 August 1976), was a British actor best known for playing the Right Reverend Cuthbert Hever in ''Series/AllGasAndGaiters'' and the old gentleman in ''Film/TheRailwayChildren''.

His stage career began in 1946, but it wasn't until he began to act on TV that he began to become better known. One of his first major TV roles was in the 1962 series ''Saki'' as Sir Hector and four years later played the Bishop of St. Ogg's in ''All Gas and Gaiters''.
