Emmett Evan "Van" Heflin Jr. (December 13, 1908 – July 23, 1971) was an American theatre, radio, and film actor. Starting on Broadway in the 1920s,his film career ran from the 1930s up till his death in 1971. He primarily played character parts, although he had a period as leading man in the 1940s. Heflin won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1942 for his performance in ''Film/JohnnyEager''.
