Steven Kellogg (October 26, 1941 - present) is an American author and illustrator of children's books. As a youngster he loved the works of Creator/BeatrixPotter and N.C. Wyeth and enjoyed creating stories and illustrations of his own. As an adult, he majored in illustration at the Rhode Island School of Design and took a scholarship-funded trip to Italy, an experience he claims his work draws from copiously.

Upon his return, Kellogg acted as a teacher at American university, but swiftly found his way into his true passion and contribution -- writing and illustrating children's literature. Kellogg is prolific, with more than eighty books to his credit, many of which have won accolades such as the Parents' Choice award. Many of these books involve animals, though Kellogg has also made a loose series from adapting folklore and songs.

Kellogg lives with his wife Helen, with whom he raised six children, and a variety of pets, including the real Pinkerton and Secondhand Rose, who inspired the ''Literature/{{Pinkerton}}'' series.
