* ButNotTooBlack: Berry, a mixed-race actress (white mother and black father) has been counted as one of the most beautiful actresses working in Hollywood, especially working in an industry that favors Eurocentric standards of beauty. But Berry has light skin, straight hair, and European-ish features, leading some to speculate she benefits from Eurocentric standards.
** At least some backlash against her casting as Storm in the ''X-Men'' films is because of this.

* HauntedHeroine: ''Gothika''
** She actually had to fight for her role in ''Monster's Ball'' for this exact reason, reminding the director that women's problems don't go away just because they're attractive.
* HalfBreedDiscrimination: Her role in the televised movie role, ''Queen''.
** To a lesser extent, this also applies to much of her early life in suburban Ohio in the 70's.
* HilariousInHindsight: Halle played Dorothy Dandridge (the first African-American actress to be nominated for an "Best Actress Oscar" for her role as the title character in Film/CarmenJones) in the HBO movie ''Introducing Dorothy Dandridge''. Halle later would become the first African-American actress to ''win'' a "Best Actress Oscar" for her performance in ''MonstersBall''.

* StarDerailingRole: Supposedly inverted with ''Film/{{Catwoman}}''. Before the movie came out, she almost wasn't in the third X-Men film because she was demanding a bigger role and a bigger paycheck. Once ''Catwoman'' tanked, she got a shot of humility.
* UncleTomfoolery: Her role in 'Baps'' qualifies.
* WagTheDirector: How ''Film/{{Catwoman}}'' came to be. After ''Monster's Ball'' netted her [[UsefulNotes/AcademyAward Best Actress]], she seemed to subsequently become more and more egotistical with such examples as trying to be placed in front of Creator/PierceBrosnan on the ''Film/DieAnotherDay'' poster, despite the latter playing '''JAMES FREAKING BOND.''' She was more successful in getting a higher salary for less work in ''Film/X2XMenUnited'' and stated that she would have to be payed '''more''' to even considering cameoing in ''Film/XMenTheLastStand''. Then ''Film/{{Catwoman}}'' came along and, presumably humbled by the waves of negative publicity, [[LaserGuidedKarma accepted a lesser paycheck for more work.]]
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Turned down the role of Annie in ''Film/{{Speed}}''.
