Fred Schepisi (born December 26, 1939) - pronounced "skep-see" - is an Australian director, part of the UsefulNotes/AustralianNewWave that included Creator/GillianArmstrong and Creator/PeterWeir. He started out at an agency before moving on to Cinesound, a film production house. He directed TV commercials and documentaries before making his first feature-length film, ''Film/TheDevilsPlayground'' (1975), which won a number of Australian film awards. Schepisi's follow-up film, ''Film/TheChantOfJimmieBlacksmith'' earned him acclaim throughout the rest of the world, and like other members of the Australian New Wave, he went on to Hollywood, where he directed films such as ''Film/{{Roxanne}}'', ''Film/MrBaseball'', and ''Film/SixDegreesOfSeparation''.
