*** One incident involved Night Shade chasing down a pegasus stallion closely associated with the Striga family, whose members have all been imprisoned for [[Film/GetOut transferring their rich clients' souls into living bodies of their victims as a form of quasi-immortality]]. Notably, Night Shade chased the pegasus stallion ''all the way to Neighpon'', where the Black Heron Corpse Investigation Team also pursued the target to try bring him to justice themselves after they were tipped off by a dead "client" who ran afoul of the runaway criminal. The intersecting pursuits led to the pegasus stallion running straight into Night Shade's hooves, though Night Shade did thank the Black Herons for their help.

** ''WesternAnimation/SkylandersAcademy'' is adapted, but as it's both set in a more serious universe and set in the same universe and direct sequel to ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfSpyro'', things are far more serious over all, and borrows from the generally darker IDW comics. One consequence of this is rather than being the funnier, weaker Skylanders Malefor, the Skylanders have to deal with the ''far'' stronger and more evil Legends Malefor in the form of Valefor.

He also has lingering baggage from his broken upbringing, which led to him [[HatesRichPeople despising corrupt, elitist nobles]] as well as AbusiveParents.

*** His [[EldritchTransformation transformation]] into [[MadGod Caelum Filum]] warped his original portfolio and gave him new domains - Death became Reincarnation, Temperance became Balance, Water became Fluidity, Forgiveness became Cycles, and Prophecy became Fate.

** Prince Varázsló is also blind, though it was self-inflicted - when he was younger, he and his twin brother Cselszövő were thrown into the [[EldritchLocation Well of Eternity]], which gave them both incredible knowledge and power, but transformed them into eldritch gods and drove them insane. He in particular was so tormented by the psychic visions he would constantly receive that he desperately tore out ''all of his eight eyes'' just to make the visions stop... except it didn't work because being blind now meant the potency of his visions increased. He has since learned to live with it, but it's common for people in his hell-fief to hear him [[MadOracle screaming/muttering random prophecies]].

** Another theme is that while Equus is ultimately a hopeful and fantastical world, not even the gods can escape [[SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome the natural and inevitable consequences of certain actions and events that are usually brought by their own doing]], however people wishes it was not to be. And more often then not, the world would instantly or eventually catch up, with outcomes ranging from the hilarious and heartwarming to the harrowing and horrific.

** While still fundamentally optimistic, ''Codex Equus'' does not shy away from dark stories and themes not seen or explored in detail in the [[Franchise/MyLittlePony canon series]]. Several entries explicitly detail racism, wars, tyranny and genocide, as well as explore themes of hatred, vengeance and trauma on individual and collective levels, with hefty doses of [[SurprisinglyREalisticOutcome reality]] and problems that have no easy solutions and cannot be fixed via ThePowerOfFriendship.
