* SupportPartyMember: The series is too small and weak to fight on their own, but it is very good at supporting WATER decks, especially when there is a high number of Sea Serpents. Diva and her Synchro form Prima Donna can summon a low-level Water monster from the deck, which includes powerful playmakers such as Hexa Spirit of the Ice Barrier or Neptabyss, the Atlantean Prince. Minstrel can scout your opponent's hand and potentially snipe a dangerous hand trap. Aria can search any low-level Sea Serpent as long as you can banish a WATER monster in the Graveyard.

[[caption-width-right:300:Poseidra (center) leading his army]]
'''[[http://yugipedia.com/wiki/Atlantean Atlanteans]]''', known as '''Sea Emperors''' (海皇 ''Kaiō'') in the OCG, are a series of WATER Sea Serpent monsters that rely on swarming the field and activating effects that change the course of battle. They also activate secondary effects if sent to the Graveyard by the effect of a Water monster. They are lead by Atlantean Dragon Poseidra.

----

* {{Atlantis}}: A Legendary Ocean, their homeplace. In fact, it was called Legendary City of Atlantis in the OCG.
* AmbitionIsEvil: Poseidra's desire to rule both land and sea leads him to attack the Fire Kings and enslave the Mermails.
* AntiMagic: Atlantean Dragon Poseidra's effect upon using the Special Summon effect. This means Poseidra is trying to soften up its foe before attacking with its full might.
* ArchEnemy: With the Fire Kings. This is very prominent in the artwork for Ocean Ablaze. Both of this card's applicable effects are designed to be useful for both "Atlanteans" and "Fire Kings". The effect which Special Summons WATER monsters also destroys a monster you control, triggering the "Fire King" monsters' effects; the second effect destroys any monster on the field, which may benefit the "Fire Kings", while it also discards 1 of your cards, triggering some of the "Atlantean" monsters' effects.
* BackFromTheDead: One of Atlantean Dragon Poseidra's effects. This effect indicates that the Atlantean Fishmen are so dedicated to the Atlantean cause, they are willing to give up their lives just so Poseidra can be summoned to the battlefield.
* BadBoss: "Poseidra" roars to instill fear on his own troops and remind them that there's no turning back in a battle.
* CaptainErsatz: Atlantean Dragon Poseidra resembles the Lagiacrus, from ''VideoGame/MonsterHunter''. Its position, color scheme, and posture is also similar to Lagiacrus (Include the dermal spikes on its back).
* DragonRider: Atlantean Dragoons are a pair of Atlanteans riding on [[SeahorsesAreDragons seahorse-like dragons]].
* DubNameChange: Known as Sea Emperor in the OCG.
* TheEmperor: Atlantean Dragon Poseidra was called Sea Emperor Dragon Poseidra in the OCG. Driven by ambitious desires to reign over both the land and sea of their region, the "Atlantean" army began an invasion on the island of their archenemies, the "Fire Kings". However, the "Fire Kings" were unexpectedly stubborn in their resistence, dragging the war to a standstill. As a way to break the standstill, the "Atlanteans" turned their eyes to the "Mermails", who had lost their home and had nowhere else to go. [[FindersRulers Seizing the legendary treasure the "Mermails" had sealed deep under the ocean]], "Poseidra" reigned over them as their new king with the treasures' power, and ordered them to beginning a torrential assault on the "Fire Kings"
* FishPeople: Most Monsters of this archetype, which indicates that they live under the sea and work for Poseidra.
* KillItWithWater: The power of the bracelet is great, with it the "Atlanteans" summoned a downpour, robbing the "Fire Kings" of their power. As well, those who dared to disobey were reduced to bubbles in the ocean…
* MeaningfulName:
** Atlantean Dragon Poseidra's name is a portmanteau of "Poseidon", the Greek god of the sea, and a dragon/hydra. Even the tip of its tail has the image of Poseidon's Trident.
** Atlantean Tridon is a younger version of "Poseidra, the Atlantean Dragon". This is fitting, as Tridon is named after Triton, the son of the sea god Poseidon.
* OurDragonsAreDifferent: Atlantean Dragon Poseidra.
* TitleDrop: Call of the Atlanteans is the First card that shares its OCG name with Structure Deck setname: Kaiō no Hōkō/Roar of the Sea Emperor.
* TransformationOfThePossessed: Getting too full of himself, "Poseidra" put on the ancient bracelet of the Mermails, and instantly his body began to change, with the "Mermail" King spoken of in legends appearing.
* WeaponOfChoice:
** BladeOnAStick: Atlantean Pikeman. This is a perfect weapon for this mook because spears involve thrusts.
** LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe: Atlantean Armed Soldier.
** MixAndMatchWeapon: Atlantean Marksman's weapon is a trident/crossbow hybrid. This is fitting because Marksman is a minion of Poseidra, which is based on Poseidon.
* WeHaveReserves: A gameplay-enforced example. The "Atlantean" playstyle is based on the lower-level "Atlantean" monsters being thrown at the opponent to soften their defenses, and to signal the arrival of their king, showing the disregard "Poseidra" has for his own troops.[[/folder]]

[[caption-width-right:300:Fire King Avatar Garunix emerging from the burned-up body of Fire King High Avatar Garunix in the artwork of "Circle of the Fire Kings".]]

'''[[http://yugipedia.com/wiki/Fire_King Fire Kings]]''' an an archetype of FIRE monsters with effects that rely on destroying themselves or each other, as they have effects that trigger when destroyed. Their ace is Fire King High Avatar Garunix, which can revive itself every turn in the Standby Phase, referencing the cycle of rebirth of the Phoenix.

----

* ArchEnemy: With the Atlanteans.
* CompositeCharacter: Garunix is based on an entire family of mythological creatures:
** Garunix bears a strong resemblance to the Phoenix from Greek mythology and the Firebird.
** The feathers of Garunix are based on the Fenghuang, the Chinese version of the Phoenix. Understandably, this card is similar to the monster "Fenghuang".
** Garunix has teeth in its beak, akin to the Simurgh.
** It also has a part of Garuda of it, with its avian appearance, godly power, and being enemies with serpents (Well, Sea Serpents, as in the Atlanteans).
* MixAndMatchCritters: Fire King Avatar Kirin looks like a {{Unicorn}} (the front body), the Greek/European version of Qilin according to Western myths, and a Qilin(the rear body), which looks like a Chimera or a Dragon(this card is a chimeric hybrid of a unicorn and a dragon/qilin).
* NobleBirdOfPrey: Garunix, simply because it leads the Fire Kings.
* {{Portmanteau}}: Garunix is a portmanteau of the mythical creatures, Garuda and Phoenix. Garunix's only connection to the Garuda, the Hindu and Buddhist version of the Phoenix, is its name, as the Garuda is often depicted with a birdman-like body, while Garunix has a more bird-like body.
* ThanatosGambit: Fire King monsters have their effects triggered when they're destroyed and sent to the Graveyard.
* ThemeNaming: The "Fire King" seem to be based off of different creatures in different Asian mythologies and Buddhism.
* RecurringElement: Fire King High Avatar Garunix is a Level 8 Fire Winged Beast that, when destroyed by a card effect, revives itself on the next turn and destroys all other monsters on the field when it does. Change "monsters" to "Spell and Trap cards", and you have the classic Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys.

'''[[http://yugipedia.com/wiki/Mermail Mermails]]''' are a series of WATER monsters, many of which are of course mermaids. They either discard other WATER monsters to use their effects or have effects that trigger when discarded. They rely on swarming the field in this manner to perform Xyz summons. Their boss monster and leader in-lore is Mermail Abyssgaios, who can negate the effects of all monsters with less ATK than him.

For a related archetype commonly used alongside Mermails, please see the '''Atlantean''' folder.
----

* {{Acrofatic}}: Abyssmander looks rotund, but is in perfect fighting condition.
* AmazonBrigade: The level 3 monsters of this archetype are all females. The original three female "Mermail" monsters released in Abyss Rising, Mermail Abysslinde, Mermail Abyssgunde and Mermail Abysshilde, have names coming from the Rhinemaidens (Woglinde, Wellgunde, Flosshilde) in the German opera Der Ring des Nibelungen (The Ring of the Nibelung) by Music/RichardWagner.
* BareFistedMonk: Unlike the fish Abysspike based is on, Abysspike uses its fists in combat.
* BareYourMidriff: Shows up on several members, but [[{{Bowdlerize}} edited out]] of practically all the females.
* DistaffCounterpart: Mermail - Abysstrite is a female counterpart of "Mermail Abyssgaios". Those cards share the inverted ATK and DEF values to one another. Abysstrite is based off of the Greek goddess Amphitrite who is the wife of Poseidon.
* DropTheHammer: Mermail Abyssbalaen can be seen holding a hammer in its artwork, which is a hint at its anti-defense effect.
* FishPeople: The Level 7s are humanoid fishes.
** Mermail Abyssmegalo is a [[SharkMan humanoid shark]] who happens to draw inspirations from a megalodon.
** Mermail Abyssleed is inspired by Leedsichthys.
** Mermail Abyssteus is based upon the Dunkleosteus.
* HumanityEnsues: The Link Monster, Abyssalacia, is a humanized version of Abysstrite.
* KnightInShiningArmor: The Level 4 ones within this archetype are males wearing armor.
* MeaningfulName: They are based on mermaids, outfitted with armor, hence "mail".
* NightmareFace: Abysscorn's picture shows Mermail - Abyssdine turning her hair into rods and displaying this kind of face.
* OddNameOut: Mermail Abyssmander is based on a salamander.
* OurMermaidsAreDifferent:
** The Level 3 monsters are all based on mermaids.
*** Mermail Abyssdine is half sea angel.
*** Mermail Abysshilde is half eel.
*** Mermail Abyssgunde is half clownfish.
*** Mermail Abysslinde is half koi.
*** Mermail Abyssnerei is half Coelancth and half Nereid.
*** Mermail Abyssocea is based on an Oceanid.
*** Mermail Abysstrite is half dolphin.
** The Leve 4 monsters, on the other hand, are all male.
*** Mermail Abysslung is half lungfish.
*** Mermail Abyssmander is half giant salamander.
*** Mermail Abyssnose is half Elephantnose fish.
*** Mermail Abysspike is half pike.
*** Mermail Abyssturge is half sturgeon.
* ShockAndAwe: An interesting feature of the Elephantnose that has been expanded upon with the Mermail, is its use of a weak electric field. Since the Elephantnose has poor eyesight, it instead uses a weak electric field to find food and navigate. Abyssnose on the other hand uses his electric field as a weapon, shocking other fish like you see in the bottom right hand corner.
* ShoutOut: To Theatre/TheRingOfTheNibelung, as the monsters depicted with the ring are based on the Rhinemadens, and of course there's the "ring" part.
* TechnicalPacifist: The Mermail have fearsome powers, but they do not like fighting. So aside from some members of the Imperial Guards, they take on appearances similar to that of humans. However, once they have made a determination to fight, they will don mana-infused armor to defeat their enemies with unmatched power.
* ThemeNaming:
** Generally based on various species of fish.
** Two are based on AlchemicElementals.
* TransformationOfThePossessed: However, getting too full of himself, "Poseidra" put on the bracelet, and instantly his body began to change, and the "Mermail" King spoken of in legends appeared.
* UnscaledMerfolk: Abyssdine (sea slug), Abysshilde (Eel), and maybe Abyssmander (Salamander).
* WeatherControlMachine: "Abyss-squall" depicts a golden ring that contains the power to control the entire planet and manipulate the weather. It can create a heavy downpour that can calm even the most intense fire! "Poseidra" seized this ring and reigned over them as their new king with the treasure's power, and ordered them to start a torrential assault on the "Fire Kings"!
* YouCantGoHomeAgain: The "Mermails" lost Lemuria when the city rose to the surface due to sudden shifts in the earth's crust deep in the ocean.

----

* ArmorPiercingAttack: Any monster equipped with Phantasm Spiral Crash gains the ability to inflict piercing damage.
* InstantWinCondition: [[http://yugipedia.com/wiki/Phantasm_Spiral_Assault Phantasm Spiral Assault]] turns Spiral into one of these: should it destroy three effect monsters while having three "Phantasm Spiral" Equip Spell cards with different names attached to it, its controller will automatically win the Duel.
* TheRival: To both the Atlantean and Fire King archetypes, it would appear, as several cards show Spiral attacking Atlantean and Fire King monsters in their artwork
* StrongButUnskilled: Like its original counterpart, Phantasm Spiral Dragon is a level 8 normal monster with 2900 ATK and DEF, the third highest ATK and second highest DEF values among all normal monsters.
* SunkenCity: The Phantasm Spiral archetype's Field Spell, "Pacifis, the Phantasm City". Several other derivatives of Umi qualify as well, such as "A Legendary Ocean" and "Forgotten Temple of the Deep".
* TookALevelInBadass: Phantasm Spiral Dragon is the evolved form of Spiral Serpent after several grueling battles led it to an ancient light that provided it new power for its battle with the Atlanteans.

Although the first monster of the series is '''[[https://yugipedia.com/wiki/Deep_Sea_Diva Deep Sea Diva]]''', one of the earliest and iconic Tuners in the game, the series did not materialize until 2020. Most of the Deep Sea monsters are musicians and artists who also happen to be merfolks.

* TheDiva: Deep Sea Diva, of course. She is apparently such a popular singer that many monsters across the ocean come to hear her sing.
* FishPeople: The male monsters are bipedal humanoids who have fish-like features across their bodies.
* OurMermaidsAreDifferent: The female monsters are based on mermaids. Unlike the female Mermail monsters who have clearly human upper half, the female Deep Sea monsters have fish-like features such as fins and unnatural skin colors on their heads, arms, and torsos.
