* ChineseGirl: She is one of the two Asian protagonists on the team. The other being Taranee, who is half-Japanese.

* NiceGirl: The least sarcastic member of the Guardians. She is the first person to treat Blunk kindly and he even calls her "Smiley Girl".

* AnimalMotifs: Frogs. Will has a ''passion'' for the species, great enough to be one of her defining characteristics, and its appearances have become a running gag. Her room is covered in stuffed frog toys and her bed has a frog styled on top it. In her provided image picture, she is seen with what appears to be a frog wallet. And in the cartoon episode, "Will's Birthday", her friends throw her a frog-themed birthday party.

* GirlyGirlWithATomboyStreak: Irma likes cute clothes, music, and crushes often on guys, but also loves junk food, has a crass sense of humor, and is a couch potato in regards to physical activity. In the cartoon, she's more of a TomboyWithAGirlyStreak, removing or downplaying more [[TomboynessUpgrade many of her feminine traits]].

* RunningGag: Her glasses are routinely damaged, left behind or given to someone. Upon returning home, Taranee is scolded by her mother for simply losing them once again and taken for clumsy, while the girl can't tell the truth what really happened.
* ShrinkingViolet: Moreso in the cartoon adaption. Taranee is the most passive of the girls and starts off a nervous wreck. [[CharacterDevelopment She eventually learns to be more assertive.]]

The Earth Guardian, Cornelia is from a wealthy family and is easily one of the most popular girls at school. She enjoys figure skating. At first was head-over-heels for Caleb, but later on realized that they were JustFriends. Later, she falls for Peter, Taranee's older brother. Averted in the cartoon, where she remains a couple with Caleb and Peter has no interest in her. Close friend with Will and best frenemy with Irma.

* BattleCouple: With Caleb, her love interest - at least in the cartoon version.
* BelligerentSexualTension: With Caleb in the cartoon, as they constantly fight, reconcile and then fight again, but always yearn each other anyway.

* LovableAlphaBitch: While she was this in the comics from the start, she had to grow into this in the cartoon.

* ProudBeauty: Often brags about her beauty, seemingly convinced she's the most beautiful girl around-and quite annoyed in the cartoon when the new girl (Nerissa in disguise) stole away the boys that usually fawned over her at lunch.

* FriendToAllLivingThings: In the comics, she rescued all the dogs in a not so great shelter. In the cartoon, Hay Lin is quite fond of Mr. Huggles and even owned him for a short time. Until keeping him caused a big problem with the customers in the Silver Dragon.

* BlackAndNerdy: Taranee is so nerdy that she can't wait for summer vacations to end!

The Water Guardian. Known for being the class clown at her school, she and Cornelia have a long-standing rivalry. She is close friends with Hay Lin. Despite displaying some jealousy over his friend Martin's girlfriend (who previously had a crush on her), she was starting a relationship with Joel, Matt's bandmate. Ultimately, she chose neither and is currently dating a new character named Stephen.

* TomboyishName: Justified given how embarrassing dated her full name is.

* MagicalGirlWarrior: A prominent non-anime example and probably one of the most recognisable in the Western world. They are teenage girls who transform into superpowered versions of themselves called the Guardians of the Veil and are tasked to protect the universe. Unlike what the series name suggests, they are not witches; that is simply an acronym made from the first letters of their names.

* RedHeadedStepchild: She's one in the most literal way to Dean in the comics and also to Serena in the TV series. Subverted in that they both actually care about her and don't treat her like the trope. In the show she treats them with distrust until she warms up to them with one issue of the comics being about her finally calling Dean "Dad!"

* {{Technopath}}: Gains the ability to talk to and control technology in season 2.
* TeleportersAndTransporters: [[spoiler:By the end of the show she's the only member of W.I.T.C.H. that can do this, though it's justified as they were in a desperate enough situation for Will to risk using it without the years of training the technique usually requires.]] Caleb actually teaches her and the others how to do this in the comic.

* BadassBookworm: She occasionally uses her smarts to defeat her enemies, especially in the show where [[ScienceHero her knowledge of science saves the day more than once]].

* MindOverMatter: Has telekinesis in the comics and gains it in the second season of the show. Her first use of it was to [[MundaneUtility clean her room]].

* RichBitch: She comes from a rich family and the show portrays her as a shallow, stuck-up SpoiledBrat, though she has her standoffish moments even in the comics.

* SlapSlapKiss: To Caleb in the cartoon but they grow out of it by the end of season 2.

* {{Invisibility}}: Gains the ability to do turn invisible in season 2.

* MotorMouth: Comes with being a GenkiGirl. For obvious reasons, it's particularly prominent in the animated series, where she just throws up one line after another.

* TokenFlyer: Hay Lin is the only one of the Guardians who can fly thanks to her having power over air. This is averted in [[WesternAnimation/{{WITCH}} the animated series]] where all five girls can fly.
* SuperSpeed: In "It Resumes" of the animated series, she mentions she is the fastest flyer of the guardians.

* ShockAndAwe: Gains the ability to fire lightning in season 2.

* PinkMeansFeminine: Her season one outfit consisted of a pink sweater and a pink dress.

* BewareTheNiceOnes: Tends to become a pyromaniac when she snaps. Cedric was rather wary of provoking her since the start, but Elyon, in the first saga, managed to get her to snap, and only survived because Cedric grabbed her and ran like hell while she freed from a bubble made specifically to keep her in.

* DatingWhatDaddyHates: A mother variant. She didn't approve of Taranee dating Nigel. She comes around though.

* SitcomArchnemesis: Downplayed. She has this sort of dynamics with Cornelia, whom she calls "Corny" and relentlessly troll, but mostly due to being TheGadfly rather than meaning a single word of it. Few times their rivality went serious, the girls quickly realised [[MySignificanceSenseIsTingling something was off]].

* SnarkKnight: Makes sassy comments when she's on and off the job of being a Guardian. But, she'll ''always'' protect the world with her friends.

* DudeMagnet: All of them have caught the attention of more than one guy, though wether they reciprocate or not varies.

* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: WordOfGod states that she's the strongest of the five because she has control over Quintessence, and she is the official leader of the team.

* TomboyishName: {{Justified}} given how embarrassing dated her full name is.

* TeensAreShort: Downplayed. Each of them are short, but that's probably because of puberty.

* PeekABangs: Part of her original design was a small forelock, descending over forehead to her nose ridge - and whenever she feels insecure, Will covers large sections of her face with her bangs.
