* AmericansAreCowboys: Ippei is Japanese-American (he's from California to be precise), and is a skilled rodeo champion, winning many awards.
* BigBrotherInstinct: Subverted, as ippei is actually younger than Kenichi. While he isn't Kenichi's BigLittleBrother in the same way that Daijiro is, after the two become friends, Ippei becomes protective of him and views him as a LittleBigBrother. He flies into a rage when [[spoiler: Nakamura claims that Kenichi is a traitor because of his Boazanian blood and punches him, shocking Kenichi]].

* UglyHeroGoodLookingVillain: Downplayed and subverted. Kenichi is far from "ugly", but his features are rather plain. However, his wide eyes and sideburns provide their own level of handsomeness. In contrast, Daijirou and Hiyoshi's features are garden variety[[note]]''Literally''. They're both expies of characters from Nagahama's [[Anime/CombattlerV previous work]][[/note]], with the exception being that Hiyoshi doesn't wear glasses like Kosuke does, Megumi is a YamatoNadeshiko and Ippei is a LongHairedPrettyBoy {{Cowboy}}. However, Heinel and Katherine are both cases of FaceOfAnAngelMindOfADemon that dress in PeltsOfTheBarbarian and FairytaleWeddingDress respectively, while Zuhl, Jangal and Gurul are {{Gonk}}s. Belgan has CreepyShadowedUndereyes and Zambajil dresses so lavishly it looks ridiculous.

* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: He is in charge at Big Falcon, and in general seems most concerned with stopping the Boazanian invasion force.

After his first appearance he becomes a much more likable character, although he can still be extremely aggressive and set in his ways at times.

* DadsOffFightingInTheWar: [[spoiler: La Gohl went back to Boazania to convince Zambajil to leave the Earth alone, but when Zambajil asked him to use his knowledge in science to create weapons for the Boazanian Empire, he refused, and was subsequently imprisoned. Gohl was then freed by Dange, and led more slave rebellions, before leading some members of resistance to Earth as refugees.]]
