** When you date her in a Pacifist run and she tells you her story with Asgore, Undyne reveals to be the Red oni while the King is the Blue: he trained her personally after she attacked him with all her strength as a child while he contempted to dodge, then apologized. Naturally, she is incredibly powerful and a major antagonist (being TheDeterminator that relentlessly chases you through the whole Waterfall zone). Unusually, she uses spears instead of swords.

* CommanderContrarian: When you finally fight Undyne, she'll be angry regardless of how you played: if you killed Toriel and/or some minor monsters, Undyne will say she thought humans were compassionate, but you're just a monster. If you killed Papyrus, she'll specifically call you out on it. And if you played as a pacifist, Undyne will say she thought humans were cool, but you're just a wimp and also assume it's just an act. In truth, Undyne doesn't want to face the [[MoralDilemma implications]] of murdering a child to save the Underground, so she just comes up with a reason for them to deserve to die anyway.

Depending on your behavior up to this point, her reasons for attacking you range from understandable (depending on how you've been violent up to that point, with her being the outright hero in a No Mercy run), to a note of ItsPersonal (if you've killed Papyrus on a Neutral run), to grasping at straws (if you've been entirely pacifistic).
** She comes up with one while befriending her, as despite how much she wants to free monsterkind, she can't bear to kill her friend to do this. [[TakeAThirdOption She then figures out she'll just wait for a human who deserves to die and use their SOUL to break the barrier.]]

* TakeAThirdOption: If you successfully befriend her, she finds a loophole in her MoralDilemma; spare you and wait for a [[AssholeVictim genuinely awful human being that actually deserves it to fall into the Underground and kill them for the final SOUL instead]].

When [[ShrinkingViolet Alphys]] confesses to her that it isn't, she initially laughs it off, but then begins to undergo an existential crisis.
