!MAT (Monster Attack Team)
!!Hideki Goh
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hideki_goh.jpg]]

-->'''Played by:''' Jiro Dan
The series protagonist and human host of Ultraman Jack. Goh was originally a race car driver, but joined MAT after the events of the first episode. Unlike other human hosts, Goh transforms through an act of willpower. He has also gained enhanced senses as a result of his merging with Jack.
----
* BadassDriver: An up and coming racecar driver, his personal skills have helped with driving a MAT vehicle.
* BlessedWithSuck: He's got superhuman abilities even as a human, but his loved ones can and do become targets for his enemies. Also, any injuries Jack suffers extend to Goh as well. In the beginning, Goh has no control as to when he transforms, which puts his life in constant danger, too.
* TheEveryman: Compared to the previous two Ultras we learn a lot more about his personal life and ambitions. Hayata was the first host and none of his personal life was shown. While Dan was very much Ultraseven himself with simply a human guise.
* GoodLookingPrivates: Both Goh and Kishida
* TheHero: As the main character.
* LeeroyJenkins: Has his moments, the worst in Episode 2, where he gets cocky due to his newfound powers extending to his human form, resulting in a suspension and an injured Minami. He got better.
* SitcomArchNemesis: Kishida is this to him, due to how much and how often they fight.

!!Captain Katsuhiro Kato

-->'''Played by:''' Nobuo Tsukamoto
The captain of MAT, who cares a lot about his small team and is willing to disregard orders if the circumstances warrant it. He leaves the team after Episode 22 and is replaced with Captain Ibuki.
----
* CoolOldGuy: Very congenial to everybody
* AFatherToHisMen: Paternal, too
* FrontlineGeneral: When he orders his troops to attack, he's dodging kaijuus along with them
* PutOnABus: Leaves MAT in Episode 22.

!!Takeshi Minami

-->'''Played by:''' Shunsuke Ikeda
The second-in-command at MAT, Minami looks over his fellow officers, especially Goh.
----

!!Ippei Ueno

-->'''Played by:''' Hatashi Mitsushi
An MAT officer who is a lot more easygoing than Minami, but can also be superstitious at times.
----

!!Fumio Kishida

-->'''Played by:''' Ken Nishida
Born into an old military family, Kishida has connections with MAT's higher-ups, which is quite useful when MAT is butting heads with them.
----
* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: In the early episodes, Kishida was a total hot head who would get mad at Goh just for questioning him. It was more noticeable in the two-part episodes Two Big Monsters Attack Tokyo and Battle! Monsters vs MAT. Thankfully this trait fades after a while by making him strict but reasonable who isn’t afraid to hide his smile from time to time.
* GoodLookingPrivates: He and Goh are easily the best looking of the bunch.
* HotBlooded: Seems to be in a bad mood all the time, and locks horns with Goh from time to time. This attitude drops after a while.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He may be pretty strict, but he does care about the well being of others.
* ScrewTheRulesIHaveConnections: Resorts to use his family connections to get his way, even opposing the captain one time.
* SitcomArchNemesis: This is a (mostly) dramatic series, but he comes close to fulfilling this trope due to his antagonistic rapport with Goh. This is averted or downplayed sometime after Episode 20.

!!Yuriko Oka

-->'''Played by:''' Mika Katsuragi
MAT's sole female member and its communications officer. That's not to say she isn't capable in combat though.
----
* ActionGirl: When her teammates are possessed by Alien Nackle, she fought them off once by herself, and once along with Goh.
* BridgeBunnies: Her usual role
* MissFanservice: In one episode, due to her wearing a miniskirt.
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: Token female

!!Captain Ryu Ibuki

-->'''Played by:''' Jun Negami
Captain Kato's replacement from Episode 23 onwards. He is much sterner in comparison to his predecessor.
----
* BigDamnHeroes: As often and as well as the whole team did this, Ibuki had three awesome moments by himself, namely: in Episode 31, against Alien Zelan; in the last episode, when he pulled a ''knife'' against Alien Bat; and in his debut episode, when he kept Gokinezula at bay while airborne. Notice that in two of these occassions, he saved Ultraman Jack all by himself.
* HiddenDepths: He's a loving family man. He has his moments of levity, too.
* SecretSecretKeeper: [[spoiler:It's implied throughout the series that he knows Goh is Ultraman Jack.]]
* TyrantTakesTheHelm: Looks that way initially, but he's a subversion. He's rather tough but fair.
