Traditionally, eight individuals who joined the Stranger on the [[VideoGame/UltimaIV quest to Avatarhood]] and each [[EmbodimentOfVirtue embody one of the Eight Virtues]] are considered the TrueCompanions of the Avatar, although he was joined by others in the course of later adventures. Three of the eight (Iolo, Shamino, and Dupre) traveled with the Stranger even before that.
