* MarriageOfConvenience: Walden asks Alan to marry him as he's denied to adopt a child as he's a single man. Alan accepts gladly. Neither of them is actually gay.

* LooksLikeJesus: His initial appaerance is often liked to Jesus in his debut season thanks to the long facial hear and the beard. It's the punchline of some of the jokes during his first episodes - once he changes his look, it is naturally gone.

* MistakenForGay: It used to be a running gag, but was later upped to OncePerEpisode.

* MistakenForGay: It used to be a running gag, but was later upped to OncePerEpisode. It doesn't help he and Alan finally get married to adopt a child together.

Added DiffLines:

* CluelessChickMagnet: He starts out as one in his early seasons, seemingly unaware of how attractive he really is. Justified, as he was married almost his whole life to only one woman and for that never really was a rich, good-looking single guy before he got divorced. In his later seasons, he comes aware of the fact he attracts many women and actually takes advantage of that.

Added DiffLines:

* SerialRomeo: He's devastated after his wife left him and since than, constantly searched for a soul mate and new OneTrueLove. He enters a lot of different relationships - many of them actually ending because he's moving on too fast and falling in love too quick.

* TheThingThatWouldNotLeave: You could practically name this trope ''The Alan Harper.'' Exaggerated in Season 9 and onwards.
** It's worth noting that in the pilot, Alan insists he's only moving in for "a couple of days", but by Season 10, he happily tells Walden to his face that he's gonna die in the beach house.

Added DiffLines:

* ExtremeOmnisexual: It's frequently joked about in the series that Charlie is so sexually deprived that not even household objects, surfaces or animals are safe from him.
-->''[after Charlie's weekend with Melissa does not end well]''\\
'''Alan:''' You sure you don't want to come down to my office and hump my ''fax machine''?\\
'''Charlie:''' [[ComicallyMissingThePoint You still have a fax machine?]]

Added DiffLines:

* MasturbationMeansSexualFrustration: Very often. Charlie's even caught him having sex with a vacuum, he admits to masturbating before dates to get the right enthusiasm out of women, and once masturbated seven times in several different locations just to use up pills before they expired (eventually getting arrested when he was caught in a movie theater). Exaggerated in later seasons.

Added DiffLines:

* NoBisexuals: In the series premiere, after 12 years of marriage to Alan, Judith suddenly announces she thinks she is gay. Although she just used this as an excuse to divorce Alan. It was intended to be genuine at first, but after finding out ''Series/{{Friends}}'' [[ItsBeenDone used a similar plot]], they rewrote it as a lie, helping establish her manipulative Jerkass persona.

Added DiffLines:

* DepravedBisexual: Even more so than her manwhore of a son, as with her, gender is no object in her conquests.

** He also refuses to sleep with teenage girls, as shown with his refusal of Berta's attractive underage granddaughter's advances (though it's mostly because he doesn't want to go to prison for it).

* HintDropping: He actually stumbled onto the full truth of Rose's "Manny Quinn" ploy. He tried to break the news to Charlie with hints over the obvious pun, but Charlie didn't pick up on any of them, despite increasing emphasis on the name. Gordon is left wondering why he's delivering pizzas and Charlie lives in a fancy beach house.

After reading the qualifications, she doesn't fit.

* {{Housewife}}: She is never stated to have any type of job and lives solely off of Alan's alimony and later Herb after remarrying. Though she doesn't seem to be one for household duties either, usually getting Alan, Herb or sometimes Jake to do everything for her.
