* IronButtMonkey: Downplayed. The Kanto Incident immediately begins with him [[spoiler:losing to a single punch from Peh-yan, then having Izana rub his defeat in by bringing up his previous defeat against Toman from two years ago]]. Following that, [[spoiler:he's sent to juvenile detention where South attacks and easily defeats him and the other S-62]]. After the timeskip, he [[spoiler:gets knocked unconscious by Benkei just a few minutes after his reintroduction and is missing from the Battle of the Three Deities a few days later, presumably because he's still recovering]]; and [[spoiler:despite initially having the upper hand, he winds up being defeated by Atsushi during the final battle]]. Despite all these setbacks, concussions and other injuries, Shion always finds himself quickly back in fighting condition, and consistently manages to land positions of authority in gangs. [[spoiler:Both of the fights he takes part in during the final battle nearly end very badly for the involved Toman members, with Atsushi [[BigDamnHeroes interrupting his first fight]] against the rest of the Mizo Middle crew and the second one only going Atsushi's way thanks to his HeroicSecondWind]].

* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: He grows out his hair after the two-year time skip.

* TheSociopath: Ran is [[DissonantSerenity calm]] and coldly calculating at all times, ruthless and sadistic despite a [[FauxAffablyEvil thin polite facade]], shows no empathy or remorse for the things he's done (including [[spoiler:killing a rival gang leader when he was barely a teenager]]), uses dirty tactics both during and outside of fights, and is arrogant, seld-centered and the most charismatic of the duo. Though he does [[EvenEvilHasLovedOnes care for his little brother]], the third databook reveals that Rindou's most feared person is Ran.

* {{Hypocrite}}: The third databook mentions that he dislikes arrogant people, despite being a SmugSnake himself.

* AmbiguousDisorder: Shion seems to be somewhere in the range of the [[https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Personality_disorder#Cluster_B_(dramatic,_emotional_or_erratic_disorders) cluster B group of personality disorders according to the DSM-5]]. Narrowing down how close to disordered he is and which particular one he fits best, though, isn't easy. He possesses several [[TheSociopath antisocial]] and [[{{Narcissist}} narcissistic]] traits, showing very little empathy or sense of morality, having sadistic tendencies, being incredibly self-centered and arrogant, completely lacking impulse control, seeming incapable of thinking things through, and consistently failing to learn from past mistakes. However, he displays more emotions than a typical sociopath would. He's also capable of caring about others to an extent, as he possesses a strong level of attachment to the other Tenjiku members, judging from [[spoiler:his reaction to Izana's death, his willingness to let himself get arrested with the other S-62 in order to take the blame for the Kanto Incident and testify against Kisaki and Hanma]], and [[AllThereInTheManual the third databook]] stating that his favorite place to be is with them.

* HypocriticalHumor: Rindo complains about Ran's VictoryPose and spotlight-hogging. A few chapters later, he shows off by ''doing the splits in the middle of battle'' and loudly taunting his opponent, whose arm he'd just broken.

* JustToyingWithThem: After losing to Smiley, he tells Takemichi that he was holding back the whole fight, willingly lost, and is actually much stronger than what he showed. Takemichi doesn't believe him. [[spoiler:Kakucho was telling the truth]].

* WrestlerInAllOfUs: Rindo fights by using grappling moves meant to dislocate joints and break bones. He usually holds his opponent down with a hold while Ran does the assaulting.

* AmbiguousDisorder: Izana's instability, chronic feelings of emptiness, vengeful and violent behavior, LackOfEmpathy, extreme fear of abandonment, manipulative tendencies, black-and-white perspective, attachment and trust issues, and emotional obsessiveness and dependency on others (specifically Shinichiro and Mikey) seem like a mix between [[https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borderline_personality_disorder borderline personality disorder]] and [[TheSociopath antisocial personality disorder]].

[[BadBoss Izana]] mocks him for losing the leading battle, while the others show no interest in either helping or avenging him the way they do for one another later on. In chapter 213, none of them lift a finger to stop him from going up against [[spoiler:[[TheAce Senju]]]], who would have most definitely kicked his ass had [[spoiler:Benkei]] not beaten her to it.

* UsedToBeASweetChild: Zig-zagged. His past interactions with Emma, Shinichiro and Kakucho show a kinder, empathetic side to Izana -- promising his sister to come back for her, taking the younger Kakucho under his wing and playing with him, dreaming of founding a country for all the children without families, and wanting to inherit the Black Dragons to protect what is dear to Shinichiro. That being said, he already displayed concerning behaviors such as [[DisproportionateRetribution mutilating people and driving their leader to suicide as revenge for beating him up]].

* HiddenDepths: Madarame initially just appears to be another bossy, arrogant and sadistic BloodKnight. But [[spoiler:he is genuinely saddened by Izana's death, and following it willingly stays behind along with the rest of the Tenjiku executives to [[TakingTheHeat take the blame for the battle and let themselves get arrested]], allowing Toman to escape]].

* AgentPeacock: Ran has long and pretty hair while Rindo is a [[GyaruGirl Gyaru-oh]], both of them are fashionable dressers, charismatic gang leaders and ''very'' competent [[BloodKnight Blood Knights]].

* BackupFromOtherworld: [[spoiler:In chapter 257, while Kakucho is trying to pull the brakes to stop a train from crushing into the Tokyo Manji and Kanto Manji Gangs, Izana appears to help him.]]

* ButNotTooForeign: [[spoiler:Near the end of the Tenjiku arc, Izana reveals that he was born from a Filipina woman, making him half-Filipino.]]

* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler:In the final arc, Sanzu gives Kakucho a fatal wound and he later dies from it.]]

* MajorInjuryUnderreaction: [[spoiler:Sanzu slashes Kakucho across the chest, but Kakucho insists to Takemichi that he didn't do much damage. However, he later succumbs to the wound and dies.]]

* VillainCred: Ran has a deep admiration for Kakucho and Izana, which he voices to them [[spoiler:after they died (or [[NotQuiteDead "died"]] in Kakucho's case) in the Tenjiku battle before respectfully [[DueToTheDead closing their eyes]]]].
* WeaponOfChoice: Ran's baton, which he is particularly fond of using during fights.

* TheFriendNobodyLikes: Seems to be this to the rest of S-62. [[BadBoss Izana]] mocks him for losing the leading battle, while the others show no interest in either helping or avenging him the way they do for one another later on. [[spoiler:During the Brahman vs Rokuhara face-off, none of them lift a finger to stop him from going up against [[TheAce Senju]], who would have most definitely kicked his ass had Benkei not beaten her to it]].

* OneHitKill: Peh-yan defeats him in just one punch. [[spoiler:Benkei does the same a few arcs later]].

* PowerFist: Fond of having brass knuckles on during fights, which he gleefully uses to pummel his opponents to a bloody pulp.

** [[spoiler:He stomps towards Senju, ''one of the Three Deities'', and [[BullyingADragon insults her]] after she attacked South]].

* TheWorfEffect: Madarame ''is'' strong, but his arrogance and tendency to get stuck in poor match-ups cause him to suffer crushing defeats.

* TheCreon: As it turns out and surprisingly for someone with such an overblown ego, Shion's dream is to serve Izana as his [[TheDragon right-hand man]]. Unfortunately for him, that position is already filled by Kakucho.

* TheFightingNarcissist: Ran is a fearsome fighter and extremely vain about his appearance, particularly his hair. The third databook notes that he regularly visits beauty salons in Harajuku, then uses Miles Davis music to monologue about his new hairstyle.

* ScarsAreForever: He has a scar running down his chin from the left corner of his mouth, which he got at some point between the ages of 13 and 16.

* HeavySleeper: Ran apparently loves to sleep, having once done so for 24 hours. According to the Tenjiku character book, his favorite spot is his bed and it is '''not''' a good idea to wake him up.
