* SillyRabbitIdealismIsForKids: A big part of his character is his belief that things like idealism and morals will only get you killed in the post-apocalypse. He only ever refers to Tyreese as "the guy that saves babies" and seems to think he's an idiot for putting others above himself.
* SmugSnake: Of all the Hunters, Martin is the most unpleasant and the biggest {{Jerkass}}. He tells Carol and Tyreese that their compassion will get them killed, and later brags that he will make it out alive. He happily threatens to snap Judith's neck, and even when the much larger, more powerful Tyreese has pinned him and has him at his mercy, he goads him on claiming it didn't hurt. When Rick's group has the Hunters cornered, he refuses to back down, smugly claiming there's another way out.
* VillainHasAPoint: He does have a point in that Tyreese's refusal to kill even when its' necessary causes problems, like him living to lead Gareth to the group.

* RapeAsBackstory: In a flashback, it is implied that the women of Terminus were raped. That is if she was part of the original Terminus community and not a later recruit.

* DefiantToTheEnd: A variant. He is the last Hunter standing and refused to run or surrender despite being cornered. Gareth actually had to talk him into kneeling.

** TheDragon: Martin, the most direct enforcer who is able to lead the pack to Rick's group again and delivers Bob to them for dinner.

* AdaptationExpansion: "Strangers" and "Four Walls and a Roof" directly adapts the "Fear the Hunters" storyline from the comics, whereas everything prior is unique to the show.
