An elementary school classmate of Shizuku, whom she bullied. She's best friends with Seri and also knows Kaori.

* CruelToBeKind: In the final chapter, [[spoiler:she picks up Shizuku, who's been holed up in her room since Kaori's death, drags her downstairs, tells her to get dressed and go to Kaori's house. It works, as reading Kaori's diary brings Shizuku out of her depressioin]].

* {{Foil}}: To Kaori. Both hide their pain from others, but while Shizuku is afraid of hurting others, Kaori worries about being a burden on others. Shizuku is withdrawn and depressed, while Kaori is an outgoing StepfordSmiler.

* ExcellentJudgeOfCharacter: While Shizuku claims that Kaori was seeing positive qualities in Shizuku that didn't actually exist, she was able to easily tell that Shizuku was contemplating suicide, and realizes that Shizuku is a kinder person than she gives herself credit for.

* {{Tsundere}}: Very heavy on the ''tsun'' towards Shizuku, but she can occasionally be kind to her. She tells Shizuku about Kaori's condition, as well as her own experience with Ruri. During the outing to Enoshima, she initially bluntly refuses to trust Shizuku with pushing Kaori's wheelchair, but lets her do it when they have a second aquarium date.

* {{Foil}}: To Shizuka. Shizuka's outgoing and cheerful, while Shiori is moody and only has a connection with her sister. Shizuka gets along well with Kaori, but Shiori is initially hostile toward Shizuku, albeit privately admitting she's a nice person.

* OneDegreeOfSeparation: She's connected to most of the cast in some way or another, having gone to the same elementary school as Shizuku, Ruri and Seri and befriended the latter two due to going to the same hospital as Ruri.

* BullyingTheDisabled: She's horrified to learn that Ruri was absent so often because she was chronically ill.

* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: She was more outgoing and confident when she was younger, and her bangs didn't cover her eyes back then. In the final scene, her bangs are slightly shorter and no longer cover her eyes, showing that she's no longer isolating herself..

* OnlyFriend: Kaori is the only one she can call a friend for much of the story, although Ruri and even Seri gradually warm up to her. She tells Kaori that visiting her in the hospital every day doesn't inconvenience her, partly because she has no friends.

* InsecureLoveInterest: At the start of the series, she hates herself for her pat as a bully and believes Kaori will only get hurt by being with her. Later on, this is lessened, but she still fears she isn't doing enough to help Kaori.

* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: She was more outgoing and confident when she was younger, and her bangs didn't cover her eyes back then.

Hinami has two friends- one ChildhoodFriend and one newer friend- who serve as ThoseTwoGuys, while Shizuku has no friends. Hinami has LoveAtFirstSight with Shiki, who [[ObliviousToLove initially doesn't notice her feelings]], while Shizuku initially finds Kaori annoying, while Kaori has long been interested in her. Hinami is the elder of two sisters while Shizuku is the younger of two sisters. About the only things Hinami and Shizuku have in common are that they're first-years in high schools, lesbians and unathletic.

** After Shizuku doen't visit for a few days, due partly to suffering from writer's block, Kaori calls her up and begs her to come, saying she doesn't want to die without seeing Shizuku again. Kaori comes immediately and apologizes.

Shiki is a tall {{Bifauxnen}}(half a head taller than Hinami) while Kaori is more feminine and petite([[OneHeadTaller only coming up to Shizuku's shoulders]]). Shiki has an older brother and lives alone, while Kaori has a younger sister and lives with her family.
