This, however, did not mean he didn't have his own life and adventures. He actually ''wanted'' to be a part of Homer's group, but could had the courage to approach them and Homer's gang never really bothered to get to know him either. As it turns out, he was actually a gem smuggler working for Fat Tony this entire time.]]

A loudmouthed, kleptomaniac, misanthropic robot currently residing in the Simpsons' basement. He makes occasional appearances whenever events affect the Simpsons household itself, such as [[Recap/TheSimpsonsS29E20ThrowGrampaFromTheDane the basement getting flooded]].

He initially made cameo appearances in multiple episodes until he (and the rest of the cast of ''Futurama'') have a major role in ''Simpsorama''.

* WaterWakeUp: His 1000-year hibernation in the basement was interrupted when the house was flooded, so he just floated around the house until it was sorted.

* OutsideContextProblem: He functions as one from ''Simpsorama'' onwards, a long-lived sci-fi robot in a relatively grounded setting, but he also appears as a {{Mook}} in ''VideoGame/TheSimpsonsGame'', making it one of the only times Bart and Homer had to deal with an antagonistic robot.

* [[Irony]]: Bender, a kleptomaniac robot, functions as a safe that Marge keeps money in during one episode.

** Despite the nature of her relationship with Bart, she's not punished in any way and the episode even seems to side with her. She's given far lighter treatment than almost everyone else too, including Lisa.

* MissingMom: Before she was revealed to be Superintendent Chalmers' daughter, Chalmers' wife, who would be Shauna's mother, was mentioned to have passed away.

* RedOniBlueOni: The blue oni to Grandpa's red oni.

* VitriolicBestBuds: With Grandpa Simpson. When Abe isn't a major part of the plot, the two are often ThoseTwoGuys.
