** Usually she is extremely tolerant to Bykov's antics and sometimes [[BitingTheHandHumor outright insulting jokes]]. But if you press her too hard, she is capable of anger outburst which would scare even Bykov into compliance.
** She usually lets Kupitman get away with his behaviour, but she has her limits; two of the episodes involves Kupitman actually being on the verge of losing his job.
** Not even her [[SpoiledBrat son]] is immune to her anger. Notably, eventually she decided to cut his fundings, forcing him to adapt to the "normal Russian doctor's" life. This turns out to be correct decision, since he eventually grows up from his SpoiledBrat personality into (mostly) normal man and friend.
* GagNose: Her unique eagle-like nose was mentioned at several occasions, mainly by [[{{Troll}} Bykov]], who uses any excuse to mock someone (it is likely a reason why Bykov, when angry, calls her "[[SpeechImpediment gahgoyle]]"). In one episode her attempt to remove it (or, rather, [[{{Troll}} pretence that she wants to]]) even became plot point.

* PoorCommunicationKills: Specifically with Bykov. They always have troubles to inform each other of something important, either because they avoid specific topics in discussions, trying to pass information in weird and ineffective ways or because they're trying to find cryptic messages where they don't exist.

* TheHeart: Bykov considers her to be the soul and heart of the whole hospital; that's why he reacts to her leaving on vacation as if it's some sort of catastrophe.

* SignatureLaugh: She has unique, rather loud laugh. She mostly laughs whenever she finds something funny, mostly after her own jokes. She herself considers her laugh to be pretty; other characters, even if they disagree, would not risk telling so to her face.

* TinyGuyHugeGirl: With Levin, who is much smaller and [[BookWorm weaker]] than her.

** She is Lobanov's wife. After she eventually divorced him (long story short, it involved his unwillingness to have children), he still managed to win her back, after working hard to re-earn her attention.
** Phil dated her for some time in season 6 before her reunion with Semyon.

* LawOfInverseFertility: For a long time she and Semyon couldn't conceive a child. This was one of the reasons for their breakup. And then she got pregnant after one night stand.
* OldFlame: She divorced Lobanov in season 3 when he [[TheLastStraw disappointed her yet again]], but returned in the season 6, confirming that old feelings towards Semyon never died completely. Once her new relationship with [[RomanticFalseLead Phil]] fell apart, she eventually returned to Semyon and remarried him.

** She leaved series for couple of seasons after her breakup with Lobanov in season 3. It took her until the season 6 to reappear.
** She took maternity leave after giving birth to her daughter in the end of season 9, and was absent until the middle of the season 11, [[TheGhost only being mentioned from time to time by Semyon]].
** She went on a month-long vacation with Semyon in the second half of season 11. While Semyon would later reappear in the final season, Olga would [[TheGhost remain offscreen]], without explanation given.
* RomanticFalseLead: She dated Phil after her return for some time before going back to Lobanov.

* ConsummateLiar: He can create the elaborate lies on the spot; no one could crack them because he actually goes and starts reinforcing them with new details as required, making them harder to disprove. This is actually [[{{Foreshadowing}} one of the early clues]] that he [[JerkWithAHeartOfJerk may be not as trustworthy as he claims]].

** Timur is noticeably unwilling to reveal any details about the reason why he quit his old work with ''much'' better salary, and tries to not mention it at all. Later it turns out that he was fired and blacklisted after his idiotic prank backfired at him.
** Many episodes where Timur plays important role involves him lying to someone, in one way or another, sometimes to exploit people. His penultimate episode shows that his constant lies were the reason why he broke up with Polina, and also why she breaks with him again.

* InterchangeableAsianCultures: Staple of Bykov's jokes at his expense; Bykov just keeps "mistaking" Timur's true ethnicity for either other minorities, or something unrelated, up to and including the [[HordesFromTheEast Golden Horde]]. Timur prefers to ignore it, because he can't afford to lose this job, but he's not amused.
* JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: Polina remembers her past life with him as the worst experience of her life, because he was insufferable, self-centred jerk. At first, it seemingly gets confirmed that she's prejudiced, that it was the mutual fault, and now they have a chance to mend their relationship, but then Polina finally remembers the ''true'' reason: his constant lies. When Timur lies to Polina once again (for no good reason at that), Polina realises that Timur didn't change a one bit, and dumps him instantly. Timur at first seemingly accepts defeat, but then pretends that he's gonna kill himself, in attempt to scare her into staying with him... only to [[EpicFail being busted with his "plan B" chick]].

* AscendedExtra: He was [[TheGhost entirely offscreen character]] with only minimal importance to the plot -- until the last season, where he became [[TheRival the central antagonist]].

* TheGhost: Until his appearance in the last season, he existed entirely offscreen.
* OldFlame: One of the reasons for his return is his attempt resurrect his relationship with Kisegach. He's not very successful at first, and it's mainly Bykov's non-stop screwups which makes him look good in comparison.
* TheRival: In the second half of final season, Bykov has to compete with him for Kisegach's attention. Bykov almost loses it due to, well, [[EntitledBastard being Bykov]].

* AnimalMotif: Poodles (likely because of his hairstyle and grey hair colour). "Smartass poodle" is also the go-to insult when someone gets angry at him.

** Kupitman keeps a collection of weird and seemingly unrelated things at home, like the globe which actually hides stash of alcohol inside. Lobanov, when he and Romanenko briefly visited it, even compared Kupitman's apartments to [[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} Kupitman's own mind]].
* TheCynic: Kupitman has very low expectations of people, and sees nothing of value in sentimentality or romantic. Bykov is sure that it's somehow related to him being venereologist, but it's unclear wether he became cynical due his profession, or chose it due to already being a cynic. Nearly only things he actually romanticises are [[TheAlcoholic cognac]] and venereology (and last one is debatable, due to him talking speeches about "goddess Venus" only to characters whom he tries to motivate into working under him, when they show little interest).

* TheFriendNobodyLikes: Besides Bykov, Kisegach and interns, hardly anyone ever sticks with him, and even they usually have low expectations of him.
* GreedyJew: {{Downplayed|Trope}}; there's no much emphasis on him being a jew, but he is the only one to use the VIP wards for his personal enrichment, and he accepts bribes from his patients for "confidentiality". He also rarely agrees to help just out of good will, though he usually [[PracticalCurrency prefers cognac as currency instead of money]].

** Whenever Kupitman calls him out on something, Bykov would compare him to "[[NoYou drunkard granny]]".

* KnightTemplarParent: Or uncle. His cousin intrust him with Sophia's protection, and he would do anything to not fail him. Out of fear that Gleb would have a bad influence on her, he decided to destroy their relationship (granted, he found out when they slam in his door when making out, in the middle of the night and drunk like pigs); ironically, it was Sophia who initiated this. Once Sophia found out, she didn't take it well. His fears were proven right when his cousin finally learned about Sophia's relationship with Gleb and reacted [[DisappointedInYou just like Kupitman expected]].
* TheLoad: No one takes him seriously because he is an alcoholic, and he never gets invited on any serious event (and when he does, he nearly universally botches it as he gets wasted). He is aware of this and thinks that they only let him work in the hospital out of pity, which offends him. He does pull his weight as venereologist most of the time, but not so much as the boss.
* ManipulativeBastard: Kupitman often just can't resits the urge to manipulate other people when they attempt to ask him for help, mainly [[ItAmusedMe for his amusement]]. Even though everyone at some point becomes his victim, they still continue asking him for advises.
* MeanBoss: Different flavour than Bykov, who's at least honest in his hatred. Kupitman tries to put a facade of BenevolentBoss, but he would ''always'' [[ItsAllAboutMe put his own interests before anyone else's]]. Forcing Phil to cancel his plans just so Kupitman may go on a date / on a poker tournament / two-weeks-long vacation (leaving Phil to work for him without weekends) / whatever, despite them discussing this beforehand? Of course. Stealing whatever [[PracticalCurrency cognac]] Phil obtained from his patients, then taking even more to "compensate" for his own loses? Perfectly normal for him. Abusing Phil just to show who's boss here? He sees nothing wrong here. And so on. It should be noted, however, that [[TheAlcoholic drunk]] Kupitman is widely considered to be much, much nicer than sober Kupitman.

* PurpleProse: Every time he talks about venereology, he goes into long, elaborate speeches about his "sacred duty" as aa "high priest of the goddess Venere". He talks in the same way whenever he [[SommelierSpeak discuss alcohol]], too.
* {{Sabotutor}}: Kupitman intentionally provided Sophia with bad advices for her interaction with Bykov during her casting for internship, hoping that Bykov would kick her out (he prefers living without her). Bykov [[EveryoneHasStandards actually reacted strongly negatively]] when he learned about this.
* SanitySlippage: Kupitman spent most of season 10 pretending that he doesn't drink (for whatever reason his cousin thinks that Kupitman is TheTeetotaler, and Kupitman fears to disappoint him). But this forced abstinence had destructive effects on his sanity. He became [[MeanBoss even more toxic to Phil than usually]], and started hallucinating. Fortunately, after he accidentally revealed his alcoholism to Sophia, it turned out that she has a reason to ''not'' snitch her uncle to her father, allowing Kupitman to [[StatusQuoIsGod return to his usual drunk happiness]].
* SerialSpouse: He has been in three marriages, each one ending in divorce -- and him [[DrowningMySorrows near killing himself with alcohol]]. Bykov fears that if he ever gets in serious relationship again, it would culminate in the fourth marriage, which, if it ends just like the first three, would certainly kill him this time; he is [[TheAlcoholic on the edge]] even without it.
* TheStarscream: How he became a Head of Venereology? By befriending his boss, collecting blackmail-worthy information on her, then backstabbing her to the point she was forced to leave. This backfired, however, since now she's rich and has her own private clinic in Germany, while Kupitman is old, lonely alcoholic with dubious career perspectives anywhere outside of this hospital.

* TrademarkFavoriteDrink: While he may drink different kinds of booze, everyone knows that cognac would always be on the first place. In fact, in one episode when he tried to replace it with something else, he [[StatusQuoIsGod failed, and was forced to return back to cognac, regretting to even trying]].
* UltimateJobSecurity: Though it gets {{subverted|Trope}} at two points, as Kisegach grows fed up with him (requiring him to spend entire episode to improve the situation), most of the time Kupitman gets away with drinking on duty, taking bribes, consistently missing all important meetings, etc.

* AttentionWhore: Bykov just can't tolerate not being the center of people's attention for long. If you do not pay attention to him, he would find a way to change it; it doesn't matter wether the reason would be positive or [[{{Troll}} negative]], as long as it works.
* BadassBiker: He used to be a leather-wielding, long-haired biker under nickname "Lizard". At some point he decides to return to his glory days, which nearly ends in tragedy.

** Bykov can't tolerate slackers -- which would be understandable, if not for him to consider you "slacking" the instant you finish one task but is yet to start another. And no, he accepts no such concept as "break": you only stop working when your shift ends. [[{{Hypocrite}} He consistently fails to live up to this standard himself]].

* DramaQueen: Bykov can't do anything without overdramatising it. If he's angry, he would yell on you on top of his lungs. If he's sad, he would make it look like the end of the world. If he talks about your mistakes, he would exaggerate them to the point of EpicFail. And if he wants to make fun of anything or anyone, it would be over-the-top LargeHam performance, nothing less.
* DrillSergeantNasty: Almost always acts like this to his interns. He shouts on them, insults them (creatively and rarely repeating himself), and punishes them for their screwups (both major and minor) with night shifts and/or by forcing to do orderlies' duties. He considers this to be a test of interns' ability of dealing with stress.

* DudeNotFunny: He's master of the tactless jokes. He considers normal to tell Kisegach jokes about her son's possible death, injuries or other misfortunes (right when something bad happens and she doesn't know what to do), or to Kupitman about his alcoholism and problems related to it, [[YoungerThanTheyLook or his age]]. He also constantly jokes about his interns possible suicide, but no one reacts to it anymore.
* EnragedByIdiocy: He can't tolerate idiocy or incompetence, and [[BerserkButton instantly explodes]] on whoever shows them. Though he often exaggerates just [[EpicFail how]] strongly his interns fail.
* EntitledBastard: Despite acting like [[{{Jerkass}} a jerk]] and {{troll}} to even his friends and LoveInterest, he always expects that they would forgive him and do as he want. When they don't, he sees this as a betrayal, instead of admitting his faults.

* LegacyCharacter: Not Bykov himself, but his ficus, Igor. In the season 8, when Igor dies, we learn that this was the ''fifth'' ficus Bykov had, with every single one being called "Igor": they tend to die due to neglect, with every death causing some overly dramatic reaction from Bykov, and later he obtains new "Igors"; the fourth Igor had Bykov trying to off himself (or at least pretending to), and [[NoodleIncident the first one was something much worse]].

* ManChild: His behaviour and jokes are ''often'' extremely childish in manner, both in personal life and [[BunnyEarsLawyer at work]]. It got him (or Kisegach) in trouble at more than one occasion. One particularly egregious example is when he sent report to ministry which contained only the words "burn in hell". Really.
* MeanBoss: He is terrible boss to his interns, treating them with nothing but abuse, punishing them for any small mistakes (or [[KickTheDog just because he is in the bad mood]]), and he is not exactly helpful when something goes wrong. He was outright compared to a slaver at more than one occasion, sometimes even by himself. [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold That being said]], it was repeatedly pointed that he's also more forgiving than Kisegach, merely punishing people where she would've made them ''fired''.

* FatalFlaw: She is too immature, due to the way her father raised her. She has no skills required to live in the big world, she has no responsibility for her actions, and she has no desire to learn, now, when she is free from her father's control. It's quite ironic that Gleb turns out to be more responsible in their relationship -- which is exactly why she leaved him, because in the end she loved her freedom more than she loved him.

* FollowInMyFootsteps: {{Inverted|Trope}}. Bykov doesn't want for Alisa to become a doctor herself, since this would ruin her life just how it ruined his. As the specific reasons, he mentions that the Russian doctors suffers from constant stress, non-existent personal life and PerpetualPoverty.

An exchange intern from USA.

* HasTwoDaddies: Phil has two fathers (a biological father, and his husband). Sometimes he chats with one of them (the one who can speak Russian), but we [[TheGhost never see or hear him]]. While he still loves them, he was forced to change several schools because of abuse from the other students (and at least one director) caused by this.

* HatedHometown: She ''really'' doesn't want to return to Kirov, as it means [[SmallTownBoredom losing access to all the fun Moscow can offer]], and getting back under her OverprotectiveDad's control.

* ItRunsInTheFamily: Paranoia and love for conspiracies is certainly their family trait. His grandfather was a KGB agent, he is a paranoidal KnightTemplarParent, and Sophia is cold, ruthless ClingyJealousGirl who always expects rivals in people around her.
* JerkassHasAPoint: He isn't exactly most sympathetic character out there, but his belief that Sophia isn't mature enough to live by herself isn't all that wrong -- because he is the cause of the problem. Whenever she's free to do as she wants, she does something reckless or downright dangerous, because she never developed survival instincts or basic common sense, [[HoistByHisOwnPetard always looking at her father for approval]]. She proves him deadly right soon afterwards when she decides to dump Gleb so she may live free, without needs to worry about things like "family".
* KnightTemplarParent: There's natural instinct of any good father to protect his daughter, and then there's his obsession with control her every step, and trying to separate her from her mentor, friends and LoveInterest, because he thinks she is not mature enough to think for herself.
* OverprotectiveDad: Towards his daughter. He was not amused when he found out about her relationship with Romanenko, and tried to separate them, firstly by force, and then by trying to find ''any'' evidence that Gleb isn't trust-worthy. Through spy gear, no less.

In Timur's penultimate episode, we learn that this conflict was Timur's prank going wrong (he accidentally spilled some literal shit on the boss' head from the window), which backfired due to Timur being busted, and resulted in Timur being blacklisted from every other clinic the boss managed to contact (with Kisegach's office being the sole exception).

** Bykov can't tolerate slackers -- which would be understandable, if not for him to consider you "slacking" the instant you finish one task but is yet to start another. And no, he accepts no such concept as "free time".
** Touching his stuff in general is a bad idea, but touch his ficus, "Igor", and you are a deadman. He would reserve most creative and humiliating punishments for this. Interns quickly learned to avoid Igor at all costs.
** He has nothing but contempt for "[[ScrewTheRulesIHaveMoney VIP]]" patients. And if you try to put one on "his" territory, he would go out of his way to ruin any chances for those patients to come back for another round, after which he would tear you a new one. Kisegach is aware of this, and tries to either convince him somehow, or just keeps him in the dark.
** For whatever reason Bykov hates when people are kissing near him; every single time this happens, it results in kissers being punished. Bykov "justifies" it with kisses being "unhygienic".

* MeanBoss: He is terrible boss to his interns, treating them with nothing but abuse, punishing them for any small mistakes (or [[KickTheDog just because he is in the bad mood]]), and he is not exactly helpful when something goes wrong. He was outright compared to a slaver at more than one occasion, sometimes even by himself. [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold That being said]], it was repeatedly pointed that he's also more forgiving than Kisegach.

** In the end of season 9, he was briefly left in charge of Therapy as only free doctor available; this proved that, if properly motivated, he ''can'' be a good specialist.

** He was a bully back in the school, while [[AlphaBastard being the most popular kid here]].

* BookDumb: He is most experienced of four interns (notably, he is the only one who has any prior practice, because he worked at ambulance), but his theoretic knowledge is one of the worst. He shows that this experience actually worths something in the season 2, when he coordinates the other interns and saves some random guy's life, while resident "[[SmallNameBigEgo smart guy]]" Levin only snapped out of shock when yelled at.

* CrazyJealousGuy: Never mess with his girl, wether current or ex. He ''would'' hit you in the face for it on smallest provocation; just ask Gleb, or Phil.

* LateToThePunchline: Happens with him a lot, especially when someone uses [[StealthInsult more complex insults about his intelligence, or, rather, lack of thereof]] against him. But, while late, he ''always'' gets that this is insult, so it's ill-advised to call him [[BerserkButton stupid]].
* LethallyStupid: All inters can do moronic mistakes, but only Lobanov is so prone to either completely disregard safety rules, or put his patients at danger due to either [[BookDumb having no idea what to do]], or [[LazyBum being too lazy to doublecheck]].
* NobleBigot: He is rather homophobic. Not uncommon trait amongst Russians, but his reaction is considered inadequate even by the other characters. This makes him being MistakenForGay himself [[RunningGag so often]] even more ironic. But he is generally good man and friend, and if somebody hurts them, he ''would'' protect them (even Levin).

* OutOfFocus: While all old interns started receiving less screen time after introduction of the new ones, Semyon was hit with it the most, due to not only working at other department, but also (unlike Phil, who at least works under Kupitman, who's Sophia's uncle) not being related to either one of new characters. Then he disappeared completely for entire season. He finally returned to the main team in last season.
* PerpetualPoverty: [[RunningGag He is infamous amongst friends and colleagues for his constant lack of money]], and he always tries to loan more (sometimes even to pay off the ''other'' debts). This is often gets {{Lampshaded}} as a reason behind this, since everyone has similarly low salary, yet he is only one to be in such conditions. His constant lack of money is also the main reason why he always accepts some questionably ethical offers from his patients to raise some easy money.
* PutOnABus: Went on month-long vacancy with Olga in second half of season 11. Then he was punished by his boss for not bothering to ask him for permission first, resulting in him spending three months working at ambulance, non-stop, which we learn when he finally shows up in the final season.

* UltimateJobSecurity: Anyone who tries to act like Lobanov in real life, would be fired and likely sued ''very'' quickly. Yet Semyon somehow preserves his job no matter what.

* JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: His history with Lyuba shows that Levin never changes, no matter how many chances he receives:
** When it seems that he actually loves Lyuba enough to stay with her when she asks him for that, instead of moving to USA to continue internship there ([[IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy Lyuba secretly planned to let him go anyway, as a reward for his loyalty, because it is just]] ''[[IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy that]]'' [[IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy important chance for him]])... he reveals that he never planned to cancel his ride to USA, wether Lyuba allows this or not; between his LoveInterest and his career, he chose the latter. After that, she dumps him on the spot. Levin runs away, believing that he did the right thing.
** Much later, Levin invites Lyuba to himself, and she agrees. But when Lyuba returns (alone and heartbroken), she reveals that it wend disastrously. * MeanBoss: He is terrible boss to his interns, treating them with nothing but abuse, punishing them for any small mistakes (or [[KickTheDog just because he is in the bad mood]]), and he is not exactly helpful when something goes wrong. In Timur's penultimate episode, we learn that this conflict was Timur's prank (he spilled some literal shit on the boss' head from the window), which backfired due to Timur being busted, and resulted in Timur being blacklisted almost everywhere else.

* CharacterDevelopment: Initially sleazy and lazy SpoiledBrat, who's here mainly to not disappoint his mother, he gradually learned both to take his job more seriously ([[PuttingTheMedicInComedic by standards of this series, anyway]]), and became a better friend and doctor in process, though one thing -- his {{Troll}} tendencies -- remains intact throughout the whole series.

* TokenEvilTeammate: To original interns. While not to a degree of [[GreedyJew Kupitman]], he is prone to ethically questionable deeds, and some of his [[{{Troll}} jokes]] are borderline cruel; his lowest moment is that time when he scammed Phil for big sum of money and bragged about it to Lobanov, who (while not the saint by any standards himself) was [[WhatTheHellHero outraged]]. He also considered perfectly okay to press Polina into quitting internship just out of personal dislike for her; she called him out on it.

* NobleBigot: He is rather homophobic. Not uncommon trait amongst Russians, but his reaction considered inadequate even by other characters. This makes him being MistakenForGay himself [[RunningGag so often]] even more ironic. But he is generally good man and friend, and if somebody hurts them, he ''would'' protect them (even Levin).

* SmokingIsNotCool: His constant smoking is directly behind his and Olga's inability to have kids. They still managed to conceive a child much later, though.

** Much later, Lyuba decided to give Levin another chance, and evend move to USA to meet him, only to return some time later, heartbroken and no longer wishing to see Levin ever again, because Levin tries to force his view on life on her, instead of helping her adapting, and showing himself to be a terrible host in general. Once again, Levin believed that he's in right.
** When Levin finally returns in the last season, he tries to hit on Lyuba ''again'', never ever thinking that there was a good reason why she dumped him twice -- his arrogance. This time around, she refuses to give him yet another chance.

* DistaffCounterPart: She's described by her actress as "Lobanov in a dress", referring to Polina's straightforwardness and occasionally tactless behaviour.

** She returned in the season 11 and joined Bykov's second team of interns in the season 12, this time for good.

* OpenMouthInsertFoot: Reason why she became TheFriendNobodyLikes is what she managed to anger every major character in her very first day in the hospital. It didn't became much better in her latter appearances.

* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: He is essentially the second Romanenko, with [[ManipulativeBastard manipulations]], [[{{Troll}} cruel sense of humour]] and [[TokenEvilTeammate questionable morale]]. Gleb at least had some genuine friends, while Max only manipulates the people around him.

* TokenEvilTeammate: Max has rather questionable moral standards, and often tries to cheat his way out of problems or exploit the other people. In fact, he isn't even supposed to be here, because his diploma is fake (which was revealed in his last episode).

* FailureIsTheOnlyOption: A series of fatal coincidences resulted in him not only starting dating Rita, but actually being close to marry her, despite feeling nothing for her and being perfectly happy with the status of occasional lover. ''Many'' of his later episodes involves his ill-fated attempts to dump her and preserve face, but they universally fails without Rita ever learning anything.

* PersonAsVerb: His hometown's name, Torzhok, sometimes used as a [[SingleIssueWonk derogative description]] of Alexei himself.

* CantHoldHisLiquor: Never let her drink, it wouldn't end well. Gleb learned this the hard way.
* ClingyJealousGirl: She spent several episodes thinking that Polina tries to "steal" Gleb from her -- and that she intentionally tries to cause her harm, due to being her "rival". She went out of her way to cause Polina as much problems as possible in return (she was deadly sure that Polina only simulates depression, and tried to provoke her into "revealing" that, with predictable results). She only dropped that attitude when Gleb fed up with it and forced them to spend a day together to know each other better, which somehow resulted in them becoming best friends.
* DistaffCounterpart: The longer series goes, the more apparent it becomes that she is second Gleb (before CharacterDevelopment) -- selfish, immature and caring more about the fun than her own future.

* AbhorrentAdmirer: He's in love with Lyuba, who can't stand him. Doesn't stop him from trying anyway each time they meet for any reason. Him [[RefugeInAudacity almost blatantly suggesting sex each time]] does not help matters.

* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: He disappeared without a trace mid-series. The next time electrician was mentioned, he had a different name (though he was also an alcoholic), and remained offscreen for entirety of the episode.

* ImmodestOrgasm: And thanks to paranoidal neighbour old woman, it was mistaken for murder.
* PutOnABus: In the end of season 6, Lobanov told to Lyuba about her [[ImmodestOrgasm being loud in bed]] ([[ItMakesSenseInContext it was complicated; lets just say, he had a reason]]), which not only enraged her to no end, but most likely forced her to quit working in this hospital altogether, because Lyuba [[GossipyHens revealed]] this to ''everyone'', and she became the resident laughing stock.

* ReallyGetsAround: He has a reputation of womaniser... who never stays with one girl for long. Then again, those were little affairs, while relationship with Varya seems to be the first serious ones.

* FlatCharacter: They were introduced mainly so Bykov's abuse of Gleb can contrast with him treating someone fairly. Otherwise, they have almost zero characterisation, interaction with other characters or screen time. It's easy to miss the moment when they stopped appearing entirely; Bykov certainly did.
* IdenticalTwinMistake: Happens nearly every single time they appears on screen, due to them looking and acting completely similar, and making no attempts to make distinguishing them any easier.

* OfficialCouple: With Gleb in the end.

* AbusiveParents: Not intentionally, but his insistence that Sophia must train to become superior in every aspect, particularly in music, and constant freedom restrictions leaved Sophia no place for free time at all. Add there his ControlFreak tendencies, and you would start to understand why Sophia [[HatedHometown hates her home so much]]. Also, music lessons traumatised her enough for her to ''still'' hating Mozart and his music after so long time.
* ControlFreak: He has shades of this; his daughter Sophia must live under strict routine with no place for personal life, only for education. This backfired when she went to Moscow, with relative freedom, since she took every opportunity to try something previously forbidden, wether it's safe or not. Even then, he forced her to regularly call him, and when he learned about her being in relationship with Gleb ([[NiceJobBreakingItHero from Gleb himself]]), he arrived in Moscow the very next day and tried to take her away by force. When it failed (Gleb suddenly proposed to Sophia, rendering him unable to do it anymore and save face), he tried to blackmail Kupitman into acting like a spy for him to find something which would put Gleb in bad light, for which he actually obtained some spy gear (presumably it belonged to his grandfather, who actually worked for KGB).

* JerkassHasAPoint: He isn't exactly most sympathetic character out there, but his belief that Sophia isn't mature enough to live by herself isn't all that wrong -- because he is the cause of the problem. Whenever she's free to do as she wants, she does something reckless or downright dangerous, because she never developed survival instincts or basic common sense, [[HoistByHisOwnPetard always looking at her father for approval]]. She proved him deadly right soon afterwards when she decided to dump Gleb so she may live free, without needs to worry about things like "family".

* PutOnABus: He only visited Moscow two times -- to take Sophia away, and (when it failed) to attend her wedding. When [[RunawayBride Sophia run away]], he had no reason to stick around either.

* RomanticFalseLead: He dated Kisegach during her brief breakup with Bykov. Bykov didn't consider him to be a serious threat right from the start, and was proven right, because Kisegach dumped him all by herself.

* DirtyHarriet: To collect materials about prostitutes for a new article, she pretended to be a prostitute herself (it's the only way to earn their trust and gather the information she needs). She took precautions in case someone would actually try to force her into sex, taking a shocker, a pepper spray and a switchblade. She didn't need it with Phil, cause she actually liked him.

* MistakenForProstitute: She was hired by Timur and Polina, who were desperate to find ''any'' woman willing to sleep with Phil, not knowing that it's [[DirtyHarriet merely a disguise she needs to make a scoop]]. When Katia actually started ''dating'' Phil, they decided that prank went too far, and tried to break them up, forcing her to finally reveal the truth to Phil. Phil reacted as well as expected when he heard about his friends' original plan.

* CoolAndUnusualPunishment: If you screw up, you would stay on night shift. This may not sound as bad, until you realise what it's ''terribly boring'' (and you would not sleep well after this). Though as time goes on, this starts losing its effect on interns, forcing Bykov to find alternative solutions. He also may force you to do orderlies' duties, in front of other personnel and patients. And if you piss him off really bad, he can find something even more interesting (like forcing Phil to reenact RPG Bykov failed to install on his computer).
* DeadpanSnarker: Bykov has sarcastic comment for every occasion.

* DrillSergeantNasty: Almost always acts like this to his interns. He shouts on them, insults them (creatively and rarely repeating himself), and punishes them for their screwups (both major and minor) with night shifts and/or by forcing to do orderlies' duties. He considers this to be a test of interns' abilities of dealing with stress.
* DrunkWithPower: Bykov is petty tyrant, who sees nothing wrong in abusing his superiority over interns to punish them for whatever he sees fit (like not laughing at his jokes when he expects it).
* DrJerk: While he maintains ''slightly'' more self-control with his patients than with everyone else in the hospital, they are not safe from his hot temper, either. He is particularly hostile to the "VIP patients", whom he hates to the point what Kisegach would would anything to keep him away from them.
* DudeNotFunny: Master of that kind of jokes. He considers normal to tell Kisegach jokes about her son's possible death, injuries or other misfortunes (right when something bad happens and she doesn't know what to do), or to Kupitman about his alcoholism and problems related to it, [[YoungerThanTheyLook or his age]]. He also constantly jokes about his interns possible suicide, but no one reacts to it anymore.

* EntitledBastard: Despite acting like {{Jerkass}} and {{Troll}} to even his friends and LoveInterest, he always expects what they would forgive him and do as he want. If they don't, he sees this as betrayal, instead of admitting his faults.
* EveryoneHasStandards: Bykov hates betrayers, and can't tolerate them in his team. Kirill learned this the hard way.
* FollowInMyFootsteps: {{Inverted|Trope}}. Bykov doesn't want for Alisa to become doctor herself, since this would ruin her life just how it ruined his. He mentioned as specific reasons the fact what Russian doctors suffer from constant stress, non-existent personal life and PerpetualPoverty.
* HairTriggerTemper: He is very easy to anger, and while some things are [[BerserkButton almost sure to cause his wrath]], he can actually explode at pretty much everything, depending on his mood at a time.
* HatesEveryoneEqually: He has very low opinion on ''everyone'', and no matter what you do, Bykov ''would'' find an excuse to call you moron. Gleb may be only exception because he's just better at pressing Bykov's {{Berserk Button}}s.

** Called his bike "Isolde" and always talked about it like "Isolde" was real person. When "Isolde" was destroyed in road accident, he treated it like the death of his great friend.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He is rude, he is hot-tempered and he has low opinion on... essentially everyone. But he still cares about his friends and colleagues, and would defend them if required. And, despite seemingly hating his Interns from first sight, he is genuinely happy with their success in life, and tries to help them if something goes ''really'' life-ruining bad:
** He tried to save Semyon's marriage when it was at danger. Unfortunately, Semyon himself was too careless to actually follow his advices and still botched everything.
** He was only one to actually congratulate Gleb when he decided to stay in the hospital, instead of quitting to work in his friend's night club, albeit in rather insult-sounding manner (it's just how Bykov works, and everyone knows it).
** When Varya quit working in Therapy in favour to stay in Surgery with her LoveInterest, he congratulated her on being first of his "cubs" to become independent.
** When Alexei was on the brink of being kicked out for incompetence, Bykov noticed he ''has'' analytical skills, and only lacks self-confidence to actually try and apply it on practice. After this, he allowed Alexei to stay despite him, actually, ''failing'' the challenge (due to still missing some crucial details).
** When he found out what Maxim's diploma is fake, instead of just kicking him out, he let him to quietly quit, and promised to hire him back once he receives one legitimately. In fact, they hugged each other before Max leaved.
* LegacyCharacter: Not Bykov himself, but his ficus, Igor. As we learn in season 8 (when Igor died), this was ''fifth'' ficus Bykov had, with every single one called "Igor" (they tend to die due to neglect). His reaction this time was not even most dramatic one; he tried to kill himself (or at least pretended to) with fourth one, and it was [[NoodleIncident something even worse]] with very first one.
* LovesTheSoundOfScreaming: Not-violent example. Being {{Troll}}, he loves when people shouts at him (especially Kisegach), because this means what his provocations works.
* ManChild: His behaviour and jokes are ''often'' extremely childish in manner, both in personal life and [[BunnyEarsLawyer at work]]. It got him (or Kisegach) in trouble at more than one occasion. One particularly egregious example is when he sent report to ministry which contained only words "burn in hell". Really.
* TheNicknamer: Bykov invents insulting nicknames [[OncePerEpisode appropriate to situation on the run]], but several of them sticks:

*** Phil Richards is [[FunnyAnimal "Filya" or "Fil'ka"]] (Besides being one of the forms of his name, this is also name of (puppet) dog character from LongRunner Russian kids show, "[[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Good_Night,_Little_Ones! Good Night, Little Ones!]]", or "Спокойной ночи, Малыши!" in Russian).
*** Maxim Korneev is "[[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korney_Chukovsky Chukovsky]]".
** While he has no stable nickname for Kupitman, always calling him something alcohol and/or venereology-related, recurring theme is to compare him to "alcoholic granny", [[NoYou usually after Kupitman calls him out on something]].
* OfficialCouple: With Kisegach since season 5. They officially married in season 9, and have a son, Ilya.
* PoorCommunicationKills: Specifically with Kisegach. They always have troubles to inform each other of something important, either because they avoid specific topics in discussions, trying to pass information in weird and ineffective ways or because they're trying to find cryptic messages where they don't exist.
* ThePrankster: He constantly tries to make fun of either interns or his friend, Kupitman. To name just one specific example, every year on a day of anniversary of his and Kupitman's friendship's start, he gifts him with some booby trapped presents.
* SecretRelationship: With Kisegach in early episodes, because they try to hide this from Gleb (who has mutual hatred with Bykov). It didn't take long for him to find out anyway (he [[ParentalSexualitySquick reacted just as they feared]], but eventually calmed down and leaved them alone), though it take some time for them to cease hiding this from everyone else.
* SinkOrSwimMentor: Usually, if he drops new task on you, you must figure out what to do by yourself (even if patient outright rejects you on the spot). Those who fails, would serve night shift as punishment. At times one may wonder what exactly ''his'' purpose in interns' education is.

* SpeechImpediment: Like his actor, Bykov has [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhotacism_(speech_impediment) Rhotacism]], which makes him unable to pronounce letter "R". This is usually played for laughs (even Bykov himself makes fun at this sometimes).

* StickyFingers: Bykov sees nothing wrong on taking any food he can find for himself. When confronted, he would make laugh or completely ignores you at best, and gets angry or punishes you at worst.
* TragicKeepsake: Why he calls his ficus "Igor" and [[ABoyAndHisX cares about him so much]]? Because it is named after first patient he lost; he received Igor as a gift from their pathologist. Though original Igor long gone, [[LegacyCharacter he keeps brining new ones, calling each one "Igor"]].

* VitriolicBestBuds: With Kupitman. They just can't stop [[{{Troll}} trolling]] each other, but they are best friends and deeply caring about each other.
* WorkingWithTheEx: With Rita when he hired her as temporal replacement for Lyuba. They are [[AmicableExes on good terms each other]], but since any romantic feelings are long gone, Kisegach had no objection to hire her (especially since they rejected every other candidate before her candidature was even brought up).

Head of Venereology. Sophia's uncle.

* TheAlcoholic: He pretty much runs on Cognac. Interestingly, while sober, Kupitman may be ''very'' unpleasant to deal with, while drunk Kupitman is normally much friendlier.
* AnimalMotif: Poodles (likely because of his hairstyle and grey hair colour). "Smartass poodle" is also go-to insult when someone is angry at him.
* BadBoss: Different flavour than Bykov, who at least was honest in his hatred. Kupitman tries to play facade of BenevolentBoss, but he would ''always'' [[ItsAllAboutMe put his own interests before anyone else's]]. Forcing Phil to cancel his plans just so Kupitman may go on a date / on poker tournament / two-weeks-long vacation (leaving Phil to work for him without weekends) / whatever, despite them discussing this beforehand? Of course. Stealing whatever [[PracticalCurrency cognac]] Phil obtained from his patients, then taking even more to "compensate" for his own loses? Perfectly normal for him. Abusing Phil just to show who's boss here? He sees nothing wrong here. And so on. It should be noted, however, what [[TheAlcoholic drunk]] Kupitman is widely considered to be much, much nicer than sober Kupitman.
* BerserkButton: {{Downplayed|Trope}}. Don't ever joke about his [[YoungerThanHeLooks age]] or alcoholism. While he wouldn't go into violent rage unlike Bykov or Lyuba, this only means he has better self-control to actually punish you (and he would).
* BirthdayHater: He is not big fun of his birthday, and everyone knows it. Only Bykov ignores this and "celebrates" with him (via bottle of cognac and lame presents). He finally snapped out of it when he tried to organise a party ([[ItMakesSenseInContext long story]]), and actually liked it.

** Has collection of rare and expensive cognac. He always talks about it in rather bizarre ways.
** Keeps collection of weird and seemingly unrelated things at home, like the globe which actually hides stash of alcohol inside. Lobanov, when he and Romanenko briefly visited it, even compared Kupitman's apartments to [[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} Kupitman's own mind]].
* TheCynic: Has very low expectations of people, and sees nothing of value in sentimentality or romantic. Bykov is sure what it's somehow related to him being venereologist, but it's unclear wether he became cynical due his profession, or chose it due to already being cynic. Nearly only things he actually romanticises are [[TheAlcoholic cognac]] and venereology (and last one is debatable, due to him talking speeches about "goddess Venus" only to characters whom he tries to motivate into working under him, when they show little interest).
* TheDandy: Kupitman spends quite a lot of time attempting to maintain his [[YoungerThanTheyLook fading beauty]] (cosmetics, manicure, hair...), sometimes even at his actual duties' expense, leaving interns (and later Phil) in charge; this is in the country which gave birth to saying "man supposed to be just a bit prettier than ape". He is often gets called on this, including by Kisegach. Also, while he wears uniform most of the time, the one look at his shoes reveals what they cost much more than some of the workers receive in month; same applies to certain of his costumes.

* DirtyOldMan: He is almost fifty years old (and [[YoungerThanTheyLook looks even older due to his alcoholism]]), but keeps trying (and sometimes succeeding) to date women twice younger than him. He also has profile on at least one dating service platform.
* EvilUncle: Before he actually came along with Sophia, in early days of her internship he tried to kick her out of the hospital -- and thus, from his life -- either by [[{{Sabotutor}} giving her blatantly harmful "advices"]], or by manipulating Bykov into doing it for him. Phil was first to learn, and was disgusted. [[EveryoneHasStandards Even Bykov called him terrible uncle for this]], and stated what if he just ''that'' hates her, he must tell her so himself, and not try to involve other people, so he would preserve his reputation with Sophia's father (especially since Sophia by then did nothing to deserve such treatment, even from Bykov's point of view). Fortunately, he grew out from this.
* FauxAffablyEvil: {{Downplayed|Trope}}; Kupitman may put facade of BenevolentBoss, but deep inside, he is egoist and greedy manipulator, who would betray you the second he may earn something valuable from it -- all while maintaining calm, gentle demeanour. Phil quickly learned never trusting Kupitman when he tries to act nice, always expecting (and often receiving) some sort of backstab.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes:
** Besides Bykov, Kisegach and interns, hardly anyone ever sticks around him, and even they usually have low expectations of him.
** In professional sense as well. No one takes him seriously because he is alcoholic, and he never gets invited on any serious event (and when he does, he nearly universally botches it by becoming wasted). He is aware of this and thinks they only let him work here out of pity, which offends him.
* FunctionalAddict: Despite being alcoholic, he's still a good specialist. This is actually why he still has this job, and even then he almost lost it twice (one time over his alcoholism and one over his laziness).
* GreedyJew: {{Downplayed|Trope}}, but he is only one to take advantage out of VIP wards for his own enrichment, and he accepts bribes from his patients for "confidentiality". He also rarely agrees to help just out of good will, though he usually [[PracticalCurrency prefers cognac as currency instead of money]].

** "[[AnimalMotifs Poodle]]". He was named like this by Lyuba in one early episode, and Kupitman was worried if it would stick; [[RunningGag it did]].
** Sometimes called (mostly by Lyuba) "Penis Doctor" (Писькин доктор), always when somebody gets angry on him.

* ItAmusedMe: When he is not motivated by material gain or cognac, he is motivated by his sick sense of humour. Unfortunately, people involved never find his pranks funny, because his "jokes" always turns out to be destructive to their relationship with friends and beloved ones.

* JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: Kupitman almost never does anything out of pure altruism, he always has ulterior (and rather selfish) motifs. Everyone are aware of this, and whenever he offers his help, tells him to cut off all crap and go to his ''real'' motifs.
* KavorkaMan: Kupitman is [[YoungerThanTheyLook old-looking due to his alcoholism]], and is not exactly attractive, but has multiple affairs despite this. Though as time goes on it becomes progressively harder for him to maintain this.
* KnightTemplarParent: Or uncle. His cousin intrust him with Sophia's protection, and he would do anything to not fail him. And since he fears what Gleb would have bad influence on her, he decides to destroy their relationship out of fear what Gleb would badly influence Sophia (granted, he finds out when they slam in his door, in the middle of the night and drunk as pigs). Ironically, it was other way around. Once Sophia found out, she didn't take it well. His fears were proven right when his cousin finally learned about Sophia's relationship with Gleb and reacted [[DisappointedInYou just like Kupitman expected]].

* OfficialCouple: With Lyuba in the last two seasons.
* OmnidisciplinaryScientist: Often mentions what while he is mainly venereologist, he may fulfil role of any even remotely related specialist, amongst them dermatologist, gynaecologist and obstetrician.
* PracticalCurrency: He actually uses cognac as alternative currency; specifically, you can pay your debts to him in this, or bribe him with it. While he usually accepts normal money, he sometimes insists on cognac; he explains this as him already having money, while good rare cognac can become part of his collection.
* PurpleProse: Every time he talks about venereology, he goes into long, elaborate speeches about his "sacred duty" as "high priest of goddess Venere". He talks in the same way whenever he [[SommelierSpeak discuss alcohol]], too.
* {{Sabotutor}}: Intentionally provided Sophia with bad advices for her interaction with Bykov during casting for internship, hoping what Bykov would kick her out of internship (he prefers living without her). Bykov [[EveryoneHasStandards didn't react well]] when he realised Kupitman's involvement (in neither of times Kupitman tried this).
* SanitySlippage: Kupitman spent most of season 10 pretending to be TheTeetotaler (since for whatever reason his cousin thinks he is, and Kupitman fears to disappoint him). But this forced abstinence had destructive effects on his sanity. He became [[BadBoss even more toxic to Phil than usually]], and started hallucinating. Fortunately, after he accidentally revealed his alcoholism to Sophia, it turns out what she has a reason to ''not'' snitch her uncle to her father, allowing Kupitman to [[StatusQuoIsGod return to his usual drunk happiness]].
* SecretRelationship: Since season 12, with Lyuba. They tried to hide this out of fear what everyone would laugh on them if they find out. It stopped being secret after Kupitman nearly died from heart attack and Lyuba was forced to explain how she, Kupitman and viagra are related... and it turns out what no one thinks like there's something wrong with them being together.

* TokenEvilTeammate: While not outright ''evil'' (though he comes pretty close at times), he openly accepts bribes from his patients and uses VIP wards for his personal enrichment. He also [[ManipulativeBastard shamelessly manipulates other peoples]] for [[ItAmusedMe his personal amusement]] when they ask him for help, not even considering what this may harm their personal lives.
* TokenMinority: Until Sophia was introduced, only Jewish character in the main cast.

* VitriolicBestBuds: With Bykov. They just can't stop [[{{Troll}} trolling]] each other, but they are best friends and deeply caring about each other.
* YoungerThanTheyLook: He is less than fifty years old, but it's easy to mistake him for old man, due to his alcoholism. He is aware of this, and never reacts well when it's gets pointed out.

Chief Doctor of the hospital. Gleb's mother and Bykov's wife.

* ActuallyPrettyFunny: Unless he makes jokes at her expense, endangers hospital's well-being, or crosses the line, she may actually play along with Bykov's pranks, especially if they only worked due to victims' (mainly interns) own stupidity.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Usually she is extremely tolerant to Bykov's antics and sometimes [[BitingTheHandHumor outright insulting jokes]]. But if you press her too hard, she is capable of anger outburst which would scare even Bykov into compliance. Not even her [[SpoiledBrat son]] is immune to this. Notably, eventually she decided to cut his fundings, forcing him to adapt to "normal Russian doctor's life. This turns out to be correct decision, since he eventually grows up from his SpoiledBrat personality into normal man and friend.
* EmbarrassingLastName: According to [[{{Troll}} Bykov]], it's constructed from "Kiss" and "Gach", literally meaning "butt-kissing".
* GagNose: Her unique eagle-like nose was mentioned at several occasions, mainly by [[{{Troll}} Bykov]] who uses any excuse to mock someone (it is likely a reason why Bykov, when angry, calls her "[[SpeechImpediment gahgoyle]]"). In one episode her attempt to remove it (or, rather, [[{{Troll}} pretence what she wants to]]) even became plot point.
* NotSoAboveItAll: Kisegach may put a serious mask, but deep inside, she is just as fun-loving {{Troll}} as Bykov; she actually joins some of his pranks, and even puts her own at times.
* OfficialCouple: With Bykov since season 5. They officially married in season 9, and have a son, Ilya.

* SecretRelationship: With Bykov in early episodes, because they try to hide this from Gleb. It doesn't take long for him to find out anyway; he reacts ''very'' negatively, which was exactly why she keep it secret. Though he eventually grow out from this childish hatred.

* AgeGapRomance: With Levin, who is much younger than she. It lasted first two seasons, only to be ruined by [[ItsAllAboutMe Levin]].
* BerserkButton: If you want to live, don't call her fat. Or old. She will go from friendly laugh to "go to hell" in less than a second; in fact, this is pretty much the only sure way to enrage her. And head nurse is the last person you want as your enemy.

* TheBusCameBack: Returned from USA in season 10... heartbroken because of her (this time permanent) breakup with Levin.

* TheGadfly: Unlike [[{{Troll}} other characters, particularly Bykov]], Lyuba makes fun of other people for the sake of it, with no intentions to harm their feelings; her jokes are much less cruel, as well.
* GenkiGirl: Always cheerful, energetic and (unless you knows how to enrage her) friendly.

* TheHeart: Bykov considers her this for the whole hospital. As well Lobanov; when he seen her in tears in one episode, he threatens to find bastard who did this and kick his ass ([[AlcoholInducedIdiocy unfortunately, said bastard was Semyon himself]]).

* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: Someone really must explain to her what "personal information" and "I do not want to discuss it" means.
* OfficialCouple:
** With Levin after couple of episodes, and right until his departure in the end of season 3 (he offended her, which lead to their breakup; and later he only reinforced it when she attempted to mend their relationship).
** Started relationship with Kupitman, of all people, in last seasons.
* OutOfContextEavesdropping: She is master of this. And it's almost always something sexual in nature. Granted, those events are genuinely insane even with context (it's just that kind of series), but still. At least, she usually keeps her findings secret until she can confirm them: even gossipers have standards, you know!
* PutOnABus: In season 8, she departed to USA herself in hope to mend her relationship with Levin (who leaved back in season 3). Unfortunately, it only served to ruin their relationship permanently.
* SecondActBreakup: In first season, with Levin (shortly after starting relationship). It lasts two episodes, including one where they didn't interact at all, and ends in reunion. Though they later break up for real ([[{{Jerkass}} because of him]]).
* SecretRelationship:
** For most of first season, with Levin. This stop being secret when angry Levin reveals the truth to Bykov, Romanenko and Lobanov.
** Since season 12, with Kupitman. They tried to hide this out of fear what everyone would laugh on them if they find out. It stopped being secret after Kupitman nearly died from heart attack and Lyuba was forced to explain how she, Kupitman and viagra are related... and it turns out what no one thinks like there's something wrong with them being together.
* SignatureLaugh: Has unique, rather loud laugh. She mostly laughs whenever she finds something funny, mostly after her own jokes. She herself considers her laugh pretty; other characters, even if they disagree, would not risk telling so to her face.

* WorkingWithTheEx: When Levin returns in last season.

Semyon's wife. Later was hired as hospital's accountant.

* TheBusCameBack:
** Divorced Lobanov in season 3, but returned in season 6 -- firstly as Lobanov's lawyer in one episode, later as hospital's accountant.
** She was absent for entirety of season 10 and half of season 11, taking maternity leave to sit with her and Semyon's daughter, Katia. She returned later in season 11 to resume her work.

* HelloAttorney: She is lawyer, and is attractive woman.

** She is Lobanov's wife. After she eventually divorced him (long story short, it involved his unwillingness to have kids), he still managed to win her back, after working hard to deserve her attention once more.

* MistakenForProstitute: In her debut episode, Semyon tried to smuggle prostitute for his patient (he [[RunningGag was in desperate need of money, as always]]), only for prostitute being rejected by "client" on first try and being busted by Bykov on second. Since Semyon failed to think of better excuse than said prostitute being his "wife" (in which Bykov and Kupitman believed, considering Semyon being married for prostitute quite plausible), when Olga arrived to inspect Semyon's work, she was mistaken for Lobanov's yet another attempt to smuggle prostitute. She was not amused.
* OldFlame: She divorced Lobanov in season 3 when he [[TheLastStraw disappointed her yet again]], but returned in season 6, where she confirmed what old feelings towards Semyon never died completely. Once her new relationship with [[RomanticFalseLead Phil]] fall apart, she eventually returned to Semyon and remarried him.

** Leaved series for couple of seasons after her breakup with Lobanov in season 3. It took her until season 6 to reappear.

** She went on month-long vacation with Semyon in second half of season 11.
* RomanticFalseLead: Dated Phil after her return for some time before going back to Lobanov.
* UglyGuyHotWife: With Semyon; she is attractive redhead, while he can be [[FaceOfAThug easily mistaken for criminal]], which actually happened at least once.
* WorkingWithTheEx: When she was hired as accountant in the same hospital where Semyon works in season 6; made more awkward by him starting dating other woman by now, while she quickly started relationship with Phil. Though ultimately she returned to Semyon, removing "ex" part.

* AmicableExes: With Bykov. Their relationship long gone, but they parted on good terms.
* FakeRelationship: Forced Alexei into one of these, hoping what if they would be considered an actual couple, people would stop spreading rumours about her. Initially neither one of them were happy at this, but Rita soon enough decided what [[FakeRealTurn she wants something more]].
* {{Foil}}: To Lyuba. Lyuba is blonde, Rita is dark-haired. Lyuba is... big and short, Rita is slim and relatively tall. Lyuba [[GenkiGirl is cheerful, energetic and friendly]], while Rita is more [[AloofDarkHairedGirl calm, aloof and analytical]].
* TheGamblingAddict: To TabletopGame/{{Backgammon}}. Lobanov exploited it in one episode to gain valuable information from her. In the same episode, Kupitman revealed what she once lost him her kidney. He "owned" it for some time before she won it back.

* OfficialCouple: With Alexei towards the end of series.
* WorkingWithTheEx: With Bykov. Bykov ''does'' warn Anastasia what she is his ex, but he suggested her because of her skills, not because of their past relationship; plus, there simply no any alternative. Anastasia agrees. Gleb learn what she is Bykov's ex, but not details about Bykov and Kisegach's discussion, and [[EpicFail tried]] to use it agains Bykov.

* ConsummateLiar: He can create so elaborate lies on the spot, no one could crack them because he actually goes and starts reinforcing them with new details as required, making them harder to disprove. This is actually one of the early clues what he [[JerkWithAHeartOfJerk isn't as good as he claims]].
* DarkAndTroubledPast: There's a good reason why he leaved prestigious private clinic in favour to working under Bykov. Now he would do anything to not lose this job as well, even tolerate Bykov's [[HatesEveryoneEqually sense of humour]]. After keeping it secret for two seasons, he finally reveals what the true reason involved his prank on his old boss [[GoneHorriblyWrong going horribly wrong]] (it involved spilling some literal shit on his head from the window).
* TheGadfly: He likes making silly jokes directed at other people (and sometimes even himself), but unlike Gleb, rarely with bad intentions; most of them are purely for the fun.
* InterchangeableAsianCultures: Staple o Bykov's jokes at his expense; Bykov just keeps "mistaking" Timur's true ethnicity for either other minorities, or something unrelated, up to and including the [[HordesFromTheEast Golden Horde]]. Timur prefers to ignore it, because he can't afford to lose this job.
* JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: Polina remembers her past life with him as worst experience of her life, because he was insufferable, self-centred jerk. At first, it seemingly gets confirmed what she's prejudiced, and what it was the mutual fault, and they are in the middle of meddling their relationship, but then Polina finally remembers the ''true'' reason: his constant lies. When Timur lies to Polina once again, Polina realises what Timur didn't change a one bit, and dumps him instantly. Timur reacts to it by pretending what he's gonna kill himself, in attempt to scare her into staying with him... only to [[EpicFail being busted with his "plan B" chick]].

* TokenMinority: Only [[UsefulNotes/{{Kazakhstan}} Kazakh]] in the cast. Of course, [[{{Troll}} Bykov]] starts making any Asian-related jokes he can come up with on him. Timur, generally, doesn't mind and even plays along to not enrage Bykov, but even he [[DudeNotFunny has the line]]. Of course, he has [[DarkAndTroubledPast a good reason to tolerate Bykov's abuse]].
* WorkingWithTheEx: With Polina when she returned. He thinks he can win her back, she (at first) just hates him. She gradually learned to tolerate him, they became friends and even briefly started dating each other again... then Timur ruined everything permanently, and decided what with Polina hating him, he has no reason to work here any more, and quit.

* BrilliantButLazy: He is, actually, smart and capable of learning, but is very lazy, and would do everything to avoid doing work, up to and including dumping it on others.
** In the end of season 9, he was briefly left in charge of Therapy as only free doctor available; this proved what, if properly motivated, he ''can'' be good specialist.
** When he was put in charge during last season, it turns up what he is actually a good administrator (in fact, he is better as administrator than he is as doctor). It's implied what he would succeed his mother after her departure in last episode.

** He was one back in the school, while [[AlphaBastard being most popular kid here]].
* CharacterDevelopment: Initially sleazy and lazy SpoiledBrat, who's here mainly to not disappoint his mother, he gradually learned both to take his job more seriously ([[PuttingTheMedicInComedic by standards of this series, anyway]]), and became better friend and doctor in process, though one thing -- his {{Troll}} tendencies -- remain intact throughout the whole series.
* DisappearedDad: His father left his family long time ago, but he still shares his last name (despite his mother returned her maiden name). He [[LastEpisodeNewCharacter returned in last season]].
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: [[RefugeInAudacity One of the first things he say to Bykov]]? "We clearly don't like each other, so I suggest what my work day should starting late, and ending early; this way our communications would be as brief as possible". Bykov [[{{Troll}} responded accordingly]], and offered him "[[BlatantLies easy]]" patient, whom he needs to interrogate, and then he can leave. Problem? Patient is ''in coma''. Instead of just accepting defeat and apologise, Gleb wasted full day doing nothing, then just faked report and lied to Bykov's face about his "success" with patient (with predictable results).
* FatalFlaw: He is very, ''very'' lazy. Why work on yourself, if you may exploit other people? Why learn how to live by yourself, if you can exploit your mother's money? He isn't dumb, but never tries to put his skills to good use.

* OfficialCouple:
** He was in relationship with Varya for quite long time (even Kisegach liked her, and expected she would have good influence on her irresponsible son). Then they broke up when she faked her pregnancy (which nearly resulted in Gleb ruining friendship ''with everyone'' because they boycotted Varya for it), and he found out.
** He dated Sophia for several seasons and nearly married her. She [[RunawayBride dumped him on the day of their marriage]], because he wanted serious marriage, and she wanted living free and have fun.
** Finally, he sticks up with Alisa in the last season.
* ParentalSexualitySquick: He reacted... badly when learned what Bykov started dating his mother. It is not so much because she is his mother (Bykov is not first to date her anyway), as because it is [[SitcomArchNemesis Bykov]]. This became even worse when Bykov accidentally impregnated her (though this time he is more offended by Bykov's [[{{Jerkass}} attempt to leave her after that]]).
* ReallyGetsAround: When outside of stable relationships, he changes girls on daily basis, to Phil's (who shared apartments with him right until season 12, and due to this can't sleep well: they have two rooms, only one with actual bed, other having just highly uncomfortable couch).

* SitcomArchNemesis: Has extremely uneasy relationship with Bykov, not in the last turn because Bykov dates his mother.

* SpoiledBrat: When first introduced, he was lazy, spoiled son of rich mother, who can't afford much time to rise him right. When she decided to finally cut him from her money, [[CharacterDevelopment he gradually became more responsible]], though he shows old colours from time to time.
* TokenEvilTeammate: To original interns. While not to degree of [[GreedyJew Kupitman]], he is prone to ethically questionable deeds, and some of his [[{{Troll}} jokes]] are borderline cruel; his lowest moment is that time when he scammed Phil for big sum of money and bragged about it to Lobanov, who (while not the saint by any standards himself) was [[WhatTheHellHero outraged]]. He also considered perfectly okay to press Polina into quitting internship just out of personal dislike for her; she called him out on it.

* UnrequitedLoveSwitcheroo: He spend whole first season trying to hit on Varya, always failing (mainly due to [[CasanovaWannabe because of his too bold or jerkish pick-up attempts]]). Later, when they finally start their relationship, and then broke up, Varya started attempting to hit on ''him'' (just as "successfully", though for the other reasons).
* WorkingWithTheEx: With Varya, after their breakup. They eventually fixed their friendship, and later, even resurrected their relationship... right until it was ruined again, permanently (this time by Varya herself).

** Never tell him he is stupid. This is one of the easiest ways to enrage him. No, attempts to be "clever" and [[StealthInsult subtle]] about it would not help, just ask [[SmallNameBigEgo Levin]].

* BookDumb:
** He is most experienced of four interns (notably, he is only one who has any prior practice, because he worked at ambulance), but his theoretic knowledge is one of the worst.
** In season 2, when he considered to give up on medicine, it was him who coordinated other interns during crisis and saved some guy's life (while [[SmallNameBigEgo Levin]] was paralysed by shock before Semyon yelled on him), proving what this experience actually worth something, when he not overestimates it. In fact, Semyon became more successful after he leaved Bykov in season 10, because under Gennadiy he can put these skills to some use.
* TheBully: To Levin, whom he constantly abused in early seasons. Notably, he was first to call Levin "[[MooseAreIdiots Deer]]". He also briefly became this to Phil after his introduction, but he toned down his abuse when they became friends. In fact, when Gleb scammed Phil for money in one episode and attempted to brag before Semyon, Lobanov called him vermin and refused to talk with him until Gleb apologised.
* TheBusCameBack: After being absent for entirety of season 13, he returned early in season 14. Turns out what leaving for one month without warning your boss wouldn't please him, so when he returned, he was punished with ''three'' months of working at ambulance, leaving him no time to do anything. When he finally found some time, he immediately tried to quit working under Gennadiy and return to Bykov; he succeeded.
* ButtMonkey: Even more than other interns. Nothing ever goes right for Semyon; be it work, [[PerpetualPoverty attempts to raise money]] or his personal life, something ''always'' would go wrong. Sometimes this is his fault, but often he is just collateral damage for other characters' antics.
* CheatersNeverProsper: Often creates some "genius" schemes to [[TheSlacker avoid doing his work]] or to raise some easy money (in rather questionable ways). They rarely, if ever, work, either because of his stupidity, bad luck, or both.
* TheDitz: He is not very bright by any standards, let alone for a doctor. He also has poor grasp on grammar (for example, when in one episode he was [[ItMakesSenseInContext forced to adhere school dictation]] by Bykov, he [[FMinusMinus utterly failed it]]).
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: During his first day he disregarded Bykov's instructions and blindly injected old woman with some medicine he vaguely remembered supposed to work. Thankfully, nothing bad happened (and it even turns out to be correct), but Bykov, once found out, [[{{Troll}} decided to tell Lobanov what by blindly injecting her with first medicine he could find, he killed her]] (by causing [[CruelAndUnusualDeath horrible allergic reaction]]). Lobanov reacted [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone badly]], and decided to find her relatives and apology personally, showing what while not very bright, he is not a bad man.
* FaceOfAThug: He had problems because of this several times, including one time when he was [[ImmodestOrgasm mistaken for murderer]].

* HairTriggerTemper: He is rather impulsive, especially if he thinks somebody is after his LoveInterest.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He can be rude sometimes, but he cares about his friends and their wellbeing. Notably, when Gleb [[KickTheDog scammed Phil for big sum of money and tried to brag about it to Lobanov]], Semyon [[WhatTheHellHero called him rodent]] and refused to eat anything Gleb bought with those money.

* MistakenForGay: [[RunningGag Several times]]. Ironically, Semyon himself is openly homophobic.
* NobleBigot: He is rather homophobic. Not uncommon trait amongst Russians, but his reaction considered inadequate even by other characters. This makes him being MistakenForGay himself [[RunningGag so often]] even more ironic. But he is generally good man and friend, and if somebody hurts them, he ''would'' protect them (even Levin). He also often becomes that one guy who [[WhatTheHellHero would tell you]], [[BrutalHonesty in no uncertain terms]], when you really went too far.
* OldFlame: When Olga returned in the hospital as accountant in season 6, Lobanov (who was in new relationship at the time) realised what he still can't forget Olga (who now dates Phil). This forced him to dump [[TheShrink Irina]] and start fighting for Olga's heart. It worked, since she couldn't forget him, too. In season 8, they restored their relationship.

* PerpetualPoverty: [[RunningGag He is infamous amongst friends and colleagues for his constant lack of money]], and he always tries to loan more (sometimes even to pay off ''other'' debts). This is often gets {{Lampshaded}} as a reason behind this, since everyone has similarly low salary, yet he is only one to be in such conditions. His constant lack of money also is main reason why he always accepts some questionably ethical offers from his patients to raise some easy money.
* PutOnABus: Went on month-long vacancy with Olga in second half of season 11.
* SmokingIsNotCool: His constant smoking is directly behind his and Olga's inability to have kids. They still managed to conceive a kid much later, though.

* TooDumbToLive: All inters can do moronic mistakes, but only Lobanov is so prone to either completely disregard safety rules, or [[LethallyStupid put his patients at danger]] due to either [[BookDumb having no idea what to do]], or [[LazyBum being too lazy to doublecheck]]. And let's not even start discussing his countless conflicts with patients for reasons varying from his rudeness to his stupidity. Anyone who tries to act like Lobanov in real life, would be fired and likely sued ''very'' quickly.
* {{Troll}}: While not as often (or as effective) as Gleb, he has his moments. His main targets are Levin (before his [[PutOnABus departure]]) and Phil, though sometimes he mocks Varya or even Gleb himself. He also cooperates with Gleb for some of his pranks.

* VitriolicBestBuds: Became this with Phil, of all people. Lobanov still sometimes trolls him (and Phil's past with Olga remains heated topic), but non-maliciously, and would protect him from real harm (Gleb, [[KickTheDog when he gone too far with his abuse]], found this out the hard way).
* WhatTheHellHero: If anyone must tell other character, in no uncertain terms, what they screwed up and must change their behaviour, it most likely would be him. While other character can shout and insult each other, once Semyon tells you what you suck, he means it.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: While he wouldn't admit it, Lobanov is dreadfully afraid of rats.
* WorkingWithTheEx: When Olga was hired as accountant in the same hospital where Semyon works in season 6; made more awkward by him starting dating other woman by now, while she quickly started relationship with Phil. Though ultimately she returned to Semyon, removing "ex" part (and then took maternity leave, removing "working" part as well).

* AgeGapRomance: With Lyuba, who is twice his age. They break up permanently in the third season, however.

* BackForTheFinale: After disappearing in the end of season 3, he returns in the last one.
* EndearinglyDorky: He becomes much, ''much'' nicer near Lyuba, and even if he acts even more awkward when tries to admire her, she actually considers this being cute. By contrast, he tends to act [[InsufferableGenius like a jerk]] towards almost everyone else. He drops this entirely when forced to choose between Lyuba and pursuing his career, causing their breakup in season 3.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: During his first day, he gets [[NerdsAreVirgins overaroused]] during woman's breasts examination, and Bykov suggests him to "let steam out", meaning cold shower. Levin instead decides to, quoting Bykov, [[ADateWithRosiePalms "take the initiative"]] ([[{{Troll}} which Bykov uses to further humiliate him]], by sending Lyuba in). It clearly shows what for all his theoretical knowledge and overblown ego, he is still a young inexperienced intern who becomes utterly helpless in any even remotely unusual situation. Subsequent episodes would only reinforce this.
* FatalFlaw: {{Pride}}. Levin ''is'' smart, but is too haughty to admit being in wrong, or to recognise what his "science career" is not the most important thing in the world, or what he still has much to learn, even from "inferior" humans around him.

* ForeignExchangeStudent: In exchange for Phil moving to Russia, Levin moves to USA. Even after finishing his internship, he decides to stay in America, returning only in the last season, and not exactly at his free will.
* ForScience: Has shades of this. In second episode, when he (due to his stupidity) "guessed" what his patient has "some new disease", he tried to cut up her head to take sample of her brain for testing. He was only prevented from doing this by Bykov.
* IChooseToStay: Just like Phil, he decided to not move back home after finishing his internship, and only returned (in the last season) because he (by his own stupidity) was accused of sexual harassment and was deported.
* InsufferableGenius: Levin just ''has'' to point out his superiority to everyone, wether it matters or not (and wether he really has it [[TooCleverByHalf or not]]). He also has bad habit of calling Semyon [[BerserkButton stupid]], which '''always''' backfires. He even acted this way to his girlfriend, Lyuba (which contributed to their breakup). After his return in last season he became only worse in this regard.
* JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: His history with Lyuba shows what Levin never changes, no matter how many chances he receives:
** When it seems what he actually loves Lyuba enough to stay with her when she asked, instead of moving to USA to continue internship here ([[IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy Lyuba secretly planned to let him go anyway, as reward for his loyalty, because it is just]] ''[[IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy that]]'' [[IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy important chance for him]])... he reveals what he never planned to cancel his ride to USA, wether Lyuba allows this or not; between his LoveInterest and his career, he chose the latter. After that, she dumps him on the spot. Levin runs away, believing what he did the right thing.
** She would try to give him another chance much later, and even move to USA to meet him, only to return some time later, heartbroken and no longer wishing to see Levin ever again, because Levin tries to force his view on life on her, instead of helping her adapting. Once again, Levin believes what he's in right.
** When Levin finally returns, he tries to hit on Lyuba ''again'', never ever thinking what there was a good reason why she dumped him twice -- his arrogance. This time around, she refuses to give him yet another chance.
* NerdsAreVirgins: Becomes painfully obvious in his debut episode, when Bykov forces him to examine his big-breasted patient, resulting in Levin [[DistractedByTheSexy quickly losing all his cognitive abilities to hormones]]. His AgeGapRomance with Lyuba is his first romance in life, period.
* NoRespectGuy: No one takes him seriously, not even orderlies. It becomes plot point in one of the episodes, where it gets put to such extreme what Lyuba even hires Lobanov to "train" him ([[StatusQuoIsGod nothing comes out of it]]).

* PutOnABus: He departs to USA in the end of season 3, until [[BackForTheFinal the very last season]].
* SecondActBreakup: In first season, goes in conflict with Lyuba, causing their temporal breakup. It lasts two episodes total (in one of which they have no interactions), ending with them reuniting. However, in the end of season 3, they breakup for real.

* SecretRelationship: For most of first season, with Lyuba (both are afraid what they would become the resident laughing stock if it gets revealed). Then Levin accidentally reveals this to Gleb, Semyon and Bykov by himself, when he interprets their laugh as them mocking him and Lyuba, and tries to protect Lyuba. To his surprise, no one cares.

* TooCleverByHalf: He has the best education amongst original interns and [[InsufferableGenius would not miss opportunity to rub this into their face]], but when it comes to apply his knowledge on practise, sometimes commits the [[TooDumbToLive really idiotic mistakes]], which not even [[BookDumb Lobanov]] would do (wether medicine-related or not). He also can't just understand what telling Lobanov what [[BerserkButton he is stupid]] is not smartest idea (no, attempt to hide it behind SesquipedalianLoquaciousness would not work), despite it backfired every. Single. Time.
* WorkingWithTheEx:
** One early episode deals with Levin and Lyuba being forced to work together during their temporal breakup, causing their mutual resentment to interfere with their tasks.
** When Levin returns in the last season, he (to his surprise) finds out what after their last (and final) breakup long time ago Lyuba is ''still'' very bitter about it, and she's not the one to sweet the pill in any way. Fortunately (for Levin), by that time she moved to work under Kupitman, but they are still forced to contact each other from time to time.

* ApologisesALot: RunningGag in earlier episodes, where it happened every time she drops something or collapses with something/someone ([[TheKlutz which is a lot]]). She eventually grew up from it.
* DudleyDoRightStopsToHelp: Her attempts to help everyone often interferes with her actual duties, leading to her wasting time without achieving anything (with ''neither'' her task ''nor'' problem she tries to solve). This is most obvious in her debut episode, when she spent whole episode helping "terminally ill patient" with his "last wishes" and hearing his "[[BlatantLies sob stories about his coolness]]"... while, had she bothered to actually check clinical history, she would have found what he is not even patient and just alcoholic suffering from hangover.
* DumbBlonde: While all interns make moronic mistakes sometimes, she's only one whom Bykov accuses of [[StaticCharacter total lack of development even after year and a half of internship]]. Yes, even [[TheDitz Lobanov]] got better.
* EstablishingCharactermoment: During her first day, she [[ATragedyOfImpulsiveness mistook]] Kupitman (who obviously [[TheAlcoholic suffers from hangover]]) for dying patient (which he immediately exploited). She didn't question him even when he demanded her to bring him more booze... [[RefugeInAudacity And cigarettes]]. [[RuleOfThree And chips]]. Then he started feeding her with BlatantLies about his "coolness" and Bykov's "undeserved pettiness". ''All of this'' may have been disproved ''immediately'' had she ever bothered to check clinical history, only to find out what it ''doesn't exist'' (because he is not a patient in the first place); you know, one of the first things doctor does when they meets new patient. Apparently, [[DudleyDoRightStopsToHelp she is quick to run to help, without thinking first]].
* ExtremeDoormat: Varya has troubles to say "no" when treated aggressively, or [[PoorCommunicationKills even trying to argue when she gets interrupted]]. She gradually dealt with this in her later episodes, at least for the most part.
* FatalFlaw: She actually has two.
** Varya is virtually spineless, breaking at first pressure. Doctor, ''especially'' Russian doctor, should be fighter, fighting to protect their patients to the last drop of blood. If you can be broken by insults, or loud yelling, or simple [[AnnoyingPatient refusal to cooperate]], you're unlikely to stick around for long.
** She is too empathic to become good doctor. Why? Because good doctor should know when they may help and when they can't; attempt to help ''everyone'' would result in her not helping ''anyone'', because of lack of time and resources.
* TheGamblingAddict: Her grandfather lost his house in a TabletopGame/{{Poker}}. Her parents nearly divorced because of TabletopGame/{{Preferans}}. When introduced to [[TabletopGame/{{Poker}}]] herself, she ''instantly'' started acting like gambling addict (despite not knowing most of the rules). Perhaps, it's really InTheBlood in her family.
* TheIngenue: Most naive and idealistic of original interns, which often gets her in trouble, mostly due to other people exploiting her ([[EstablishingCharacterMoment including her debut episode]]).
* TheKlutz: Mostly in early episodes (''especially'' in first two), but this happens from time to time with her.

* PoorCommunicationKills: Varya has extreme problems with revealing crucial information in time. Worst case is her FakePregnancy from season 5, when she spent several episodes withholding the truth from Gleb (who thought she was pregnant from him) just because she feels too awkward to discuss this, despite almost everyone was already aware and tried to persuade her to do the right thing for once. Instead, she wasted time to the point when Gleb nearly ruined his friendship ''with everyone'' because they started boycotting her, and once she revealed everything, he instantly dumped her, this time forever.
* PutOnABus: Leaves Therapy (to work with her LoveInterest in Surgery) in season 8, disappearing from it completely. She never came back, even for cameos.
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: Only female intern until Polina (and later Sophia) were introduced.
* TokenGoodTeammate: Most [[ATragedyOfImpulsiveness emphatic]] one amongst interns (both old and new ones), and has [[HonorBeforeReason high moral standards]]. Both of this, unfortunately, are detrimental to her work and personal life.
* ATragedyOfImpulsiveness: She's overly emotional and emphatic, and this constantly interferes with her work. She often panics and acts before realising what her actions are either suboptimal or unnecessary at all; and she tends to believe in any sufficiently sob story, being it true or not ([[BlatantLies mostly not, rather obvious at that]]). This is actually what Bykov stated as main reason why he does not considers her to be fit for being a doctor: good doctor must have hot heart, but cold head.
* UnrequitedLoveSwitcheroo: Gleb spend whole first season trying to hit on her. Later, when they start their relationship, and then break up, she spent whole fourth season trying to hit on ''him'', failing because her plans to do so [[MissingStepsPlan was always too ill-thought and/or relied on something out of her control]].
* WideEyedIdealist: She has very idealistic view on this world. Bykov, being [[SinkOrSwimMentor Bykov]], just can't resist to shatter this mentality.
* WorkingWithTheEx: With Gleb, after their breakup. They eventually fix their friendship, and later, even resurrect their relationship. Unfortunately, it was ruined again, permanently (this time by Varya herself); this time, it lasted right until Varya's [[PutOnABus disappearance from the series]].

Exchange intern from USA.

* BetterAsFriends: When he broke up with Olga. They parted on friendly terms, though Phil still briefly had troubles with interacting with Lobanov.

* CampStraight: He is straight (despite having two gay fathers), but people keep mistaking him for gay due to his weird, un-manly behaviour, emotionality and, well, his heritage.

* ControlFreak: Phil ''must'' plan everything beforehand. He always plans his budget for full month, and if you want to lend money, you must ask him month before (or, at least, this is what we know from [[UnreliableExpositor Gleb's words]]). He also planned to achieve prestigious position, dog and kids back in USA before reaching thirty five years (in that order).
* CultureClash: Many jokes involving him (mostly in early episodes) relies on him not being familiar with some Russian customs, mentality or some (often old-fashioned and dubiously effective, but thats another matter entirely) local treatment methods ("zelyonka", cupping therapy, etc).
* FirstNameBasis: No one ever calls him "Richards", not even Bykov, who uses [[LastNameBasis last names when referring to any other intern.
* ForeignExchangeStudent: He arrived to continue internship in Russia, in exchange for Levin.
* ForeignLanguageTirade: Sometimes switches to English, usually when he's nervous because of something.

* HasTwoDaddies: Phil has two fathers (biological father and his husband). Sometimes he chats with one of them (that one who can speak Russian), but we [[TheGhost never see or hear him]]. While he still loves them, he was forced to change several schools because of abuse from other students (and at least one director) caused by this.

* MissingMom: Only two things we know about his mother is what she was Russian, and what he was raised without her; we don't even know her name.
* NaiveNewcomer: Because he is not native, he has troubles to adapt at first, which often gets exploited (mainly [[{{Troll}} by Gleb]]).
* NiceGuy: One of the nicest guys amongst interns (besides Varya and Lyosha). This highly contrasts with how [[HairTriggerTemper Lobanov]], [[InsufferableGenius Levin]] or [[{{Troll}} Romanenko]] acts.
* OfficialCouple: With Polina towards the end of series.
* RomanticFalseLead: Was briefly in relationship with Olga. [[BetterAsFriends They broke up on her initiative]].
* SixthRanger: Appeared for the first time in season 4, after which stick with them until the end of series.
* TokenGoodTeammate: Sometimes to his detriment. He is nice and friendly, and is opposed to rules violations (both on interns' and on administration's side); [[HonorBeforeReason last one often gets in trouble either him or his friends]].

New intern who was introduced in season 9 (and re-introduced in season 11).

* TheBusCameBack: Returns in 11th season to continue her internship (also explaining why she leaved in the first place). It still took her a dozen episodes more after that to actually start working here and introduce herself to Alexei and Sophia.
* DistaffCounterPart: Was described by her actress as "Lobanov in a dress".
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: Her very first act in the series? [[OpenMouthInsertFoot Managing to enrage]] ''everyone'' she talked to, before even being hired.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: She managed to anger everybody in her first appearance, [[EstablishingCharacterMoment before she even started working here]]. Even [[{{Troll}} Bykov]] was impressed, and allowed her to stay. It took her some time to even start improving her relationship with other people.

* NoSocialSkills: She thinks of herself as TheSocialExpert. She [[InnocentlyInsensitive disproves this]] in her very first episode, and it only becomes worse from here.

** She originally appeared in season 9, but then quietly disappeared between it and season 10.
** She returned in season 11 and joined Bykov's second team of interns in season 12, this time for good.

* PutOnABus: [[ChuckCunninghamSyndrome Quietly and without any explanation disappeared from the series after only one season]]. When she returned later, she finally provided explanation both for her absence and for nobody speaking about her.
* StepfordSmiler: She tries to not show it, but her divorce with Timur harmed her much more than she admits. She puts cheerful, happy facade, but underneath it she is still in depression (which Sophia unintentionally dug out once).
* TakeThisJobAndShoveIt: After [[{{Bridezilla}} her conflict with Bykov escalated to the point of explosion]], she told him to go screw himself, and, when he tried to throw stuff at her, called him "blind". Since then, none of them wished to see other one ever again (Bykov even ordered to not ever mention her within his earshot). She calmed down after one season of absence and came to apologise.
* WorkingWithTheEx: With Timur, who joined soon after her return. He thinks he can win her back, she (at first) just hates him. She gradually learned to tolerate him, they became friends and even briefly started dating each other again... then Timur ruined everything permanently, and decided what with Polina hating him, he has no reason to work here any more, and quit.

* BlackSheep: He is last descendant of long dynasty of doctors... who never finished medical university, forcing him to fake his diploma. Bykov eventually learned about this but, instead of dishonourably kicking him out, [[PetTheDog encouraged him to finish his education and graduate legitimately, after which he would accept him back]].
* CheatersNeverProsper: Tend to cheat his way out of most problems... which almost never works out.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: Had two in his debut episode:
** Very first thing he did was using LoopholeAbuse to avoid being eliminated by Bykov during his casting, when Bykov ordered everyone with "R" in their surnames to leave.
** His "solution" to Bykov's FoxChickenGrainPuzzle subtly showed his willingness to backstab his teammates if he sees no way to win together, which later happened more than once.
* DickDastardlyStopsToCheat: He has legitimate skills, but would always search for shortcuts and workarounds instead of just doing what he was supposed to do, which generally cause him more harm than good. In fact, even his medical diploma is fake. However, towards the end of his involvement in the series he realised what CheatersNeverProsper, and confessed to Bykov -- who, instead of dishonourably kicking him out, let him quietly quit, so he may finish his education legitimately and return.
* FatalFlaw: He is not dumb, but instead of putting his skills to good use, he always tries to cheat and find easy way out. As result, when he tricks don't work (like with professor who doesn't accepts bribes), he has no cards left. By always cheating, you never learn how to do things legitimately. He accepted it right before leaving the series.

* TheProudElite: Tries to pass himself as one, by emphasising his Petersburg's origin (city known as "cultural capital" of Russia), him being descendent of long dynasty of doctors, and him being rich, but never goes into deep details. In fact, this is only half of the truth, and he is the BlackSheep of the family, because he failed to live up to their legacy.
* PutOnABus: Disappeared from the series once Bykov found out what his diploma is fake in the middle of season 11. While Bykov promised to let him back once he receives diploma legitimately, this never happened during remaining episodes.
* {{Slimeball}}: Max tend to exploit people around him for his personal gains, and just cheat his way out of problems in general. No one likes this; even Phil outright admitted he considers Max to be untrustworthy.
* SmugSnake: He often tries to manipulate people around him to receive what he wants (or just for fun), but he's not nearly as successful as Gleb was.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: He is essentially second Romanenko, with [[ManipulativeBastard manipulations]], [[{{Troll}} cruel sense of humour]] and [[TokenEvilTeammate questionable morale]]. Gleb, however, at least had some genuine friends, while Max only manipulates people around him.

* TokenEvilTeammate: Has rather questionable moral standards, and often tries to cheat his way out of problems or exploit other people. In fact, he isn't even supposed to be here, because his diploma is fake (which was revealed in his last episode).

* {{Determinator}}: Bykov almost instantly rejected him in his introduction episode (in fact, before we even learned his name), but Alexei's stubborn insistent on continuing [[ItMakesSenseInContext floor cleaning task]] (right until late night) despite continuously being told to leave (even after Bykov took away his mop, forcing him to use his own shirt) impressed Bykov enough to give him another chance.
* FailureIsTheOnlyOption: Series of fatal coincidences resulted in him not only starting dating Rita, but actually being close to marry her, despite feeling nothing for her and being perfectly happy with the status of occasional lover. ''Many'' of his later episodes involve his ill-fated attempts to dump her and preserve face, but they universally fail without Rita ever learning anything.
* FakeRelationship: Rita forced him into one of these, hoping what if they would be considered an actual couple, people would stop spreading rumours about her. Initially neither one of them were happy at this, but Rita soon enough decided what [[FakeRealTurn she wants something more]]. Alexei had other opinion, but never managed to actually say it to Rita.
* FatalFlaw: His lack of self-confidence, which constantly results in him failing to do important decisions, not taking any risks and asking someone for approval, or, when presented with several options, trying to take them all. Bykov keeps trying to defeat this trait, since true doctor know what he or she does, and, after making decision, sticking to it instead of trembling in self-doubt.
* MrFixit: Alexei can fix almost anything, be it broken bed, door lock or toilet. In fact, he works as locksmith in his spare time to earn more money... or, rather, worked, until Bykov forced him to chose between medicine and locksmithing when patients started recognising him and started filling complaints.

* ClingyJealousGirl: She spent several episodes thinking what Polina tries to "steal" Gleb from her -- and what she intentionally tries to cause her harm, due to being her "rival". She went out of her way to cause Polina as much problems as possible in return (she was deadly sure what Polina only simulates depression, and tried to provoke her into "revealing" that, with predictable results). She only dropped that attitude when Gleb fed up with it and forced them to spend a day together to know each other better, which somehow resulted in them becoming best friends.
* DistaffCounterpart: The longer series goes, the more apparent it becomes what she second Gleb (before CharacterDevelopment) -- selfish, immature and caring more about fun than her own future.
* DitzyGenius: She ''is'' the smartest (and best educated) amongst second team of interns, but she has serious lack of common sense and knowledge how to live without constant supervising from her parents, which regularly results in problems when she tries to do something "new and cool" without thinking about consequences. Particularly glaring example is her attempt to take "loan" from some random guy literally on the street -- something no sane person would ever do, because these guys are practically universally criminals with no qualms to take their money back from your cold dead body.
* FatalFlaw: She is too immature, due to the way her father raised her. She has no skills required to live in the big world, she has no responsibility for her actions, and she has no desire to learn, now, when she is free from her father's control. It's quite ironic when Gleb turns out to be more responsible in their relationship -- which is exactly whey she leaved him, because in the end she loved her freedom more than she loved him.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: Briefly was an outcast in her early episodes due to everyone thinking she was accepted into internship not for her skills, but for her connections to Kupitman.
* HardDrinkingPartyGirl: Despite having low tolerance for alcohol (or even experience with it), she still tries to obtain some (and some more, and more...) whenever she goes into any night club, being much more concerned with "having fun" than with anything else. After bringing her into club for first time, Gleb refused to do it ever again because she got wasted in only thirty minutes, and was only convinced to do it again on condition what Sophia would stay away from alcohol -- which she violated on the first opportunity, proceeding to became wasted with tons of alcohol, wildly dancing and even attempting to show striptease on one of the tables (this is despite being from conservative intelligent jewish family with no prior experience with night clubs of any kind), forcing Gleb to stop her.
* ItRunsInTheFamily: Paranoia and love for conspiracies is certainly their family trait. Her grand-grandfather was KGB agent, her father is paranoidal KnightTemplarParent, and she herself is cold, ruthless ClingyJealousGirl who always expects some rivals in people around her.
* JewishAndNerdy: Most educated amongst second generation of interns (both scientific and cultural), but due to spending most of her life under constant overprotection of her father, knows little about outside world and how it supposed to work.
* PutOnABus: After running away from her wedding, she permanently disappeared from the series, deciding what she would rather live for herself than marry Gleb.
* RunawayBride: Dumped Gleb right on the day of their marriage, greatly harming his feelings.
* SmallTownBoredom: Considers life in Kirov to be FateWorseThanDeath due to sheer boredom, not in the last part due to her father's overprotection.

* BenevolentBoss: {{Downplayed|Trope}}. While still prone to exploit Semyon at times, he is much nicer than Bykov and at least would not treat you like dirt... openly. He also provides him more freedom, while Bykov was compared to slaver at several occasions, including by Bykov himself.
* InSeriesNickname: Colleagues call him "Beard" for, well, him not shaving for a full year once.

Electrician. In love with Lyuba (which is not mutual).

* AbhorrentAdmirer: In love with Lyuba, who can't stand him. Doesn't stop him from trying anyway each time they meet for any reason. Him [[RefugeInAudacity almost blatantly suggesting sex each time]] does not help matters.
* TheAlcoholic: Theres two loves in his life -- Lyuba, and vodka. In fact, this is how he met Lyuba the first time: he once stole medical alcohol, for which she was punished. Not exactly good first impression, which he only made worse by his other characteristics.
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: He disappeared without a trace mid-series. The next time electrician was mentioned, he had a different name (though he was also alcoholic), and remained offscreen for entirety of the episode.

* NoNameGiven: "Ivanovich" is neither name nor surname, its [[UsefulNotes/{{Patronymic}} patronymic]]. His actual name is never stated. Same for his colleague, [[TheGhost Mikhalych]].

* RecurringExtra: One of the two known electricians, other being [[TheGhost Mikhalych]]. Mostly appears in episodes when something must be fixed ASAP, though results are not always worth it.
* RefugeInAudacity: Let's just say: if you want to flirt with woman, at least ''try'' to hide the fact what you want to bang her (which he combines with poor attempts into creating romantic atmosphere). This and his [[TheAlcoholic alcoholism]] makes it pretty obvious why Lyuba [[AbhorrentAdmirer refuses his advances]].

Psychiatrist and Lobanov's LoveInterest after his breakup with Olga (and before she returned to him).

* ClingyJealousGirl: She jealous of Semyon to Olga (who spends too much time with her, despite both Semyon and Olga now being in different relationship), and wants Semyon to spend less time with Olga and more with her.
* GlamorousSingleMother: Unless you know beforehand, you would never guess what she is single mother: she is perfectly able to sustain herself and her son Kirill, and even has time for relationship with Semyon.

* PutOnABus: In the end of season 6, Lobanov told to Lyuba about her [[ImmodestOrgasm being loud in bed]] ([[ItMakesSenseInContext it was complicated; lets just say, he had a reason]]), which not only enraged her to no end, but most likely forced her to quit working in this hospital altogether, because Lyuba [[GossipyHens revealed]] this to ''everyone'', and she became everyone's laughing stock.

Anaesthetist. Varya's new LoveInterest after her breakup with Gleb.

* CovertPervert: There's a rumour what he seduces his patients via some "special chemistry", and also what he secretly collects nude photos of his patients. First one just silly attempt to explain why he's so popular with women, but second was genuinely malicious and became major plot point of his introduction episode. Fortunately, it was debunked.
* LoveInterest: To Varya in seasons 7–8.
* NiceGuy: Unlike Gleb, he never acts as {{Jerkass}} to Varya.
* PutOnABus: Disappears from the series together with Varya in season 8.
* ReallyGetsAround: Has a reputation of womaniser... who never stays with one girl for long. Then again, those were little affairs, while relationship with Varya may be first serious ones.
* SeriousBusiness: When Varya tried to use his love to soccer to become closer with him, she [[EpicFail mistook his favourite club]]. He was infuriated with her being fan of "[[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FC_Spartak_Moscow Spartak]]" (rival club to his "[[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PFC_CSKA_Moscow CSKA]]"). Fortunately, when he visited her home later same day in order to "explain" why her choosing rival club was wrong, she managed to salvage situation by playing along.

* IdenticalTwinMistake: Happens nearly every single time they appear on screen, due to them looking and acting completely similar, and making no attempts to make distinguishing them any easier.
* RememberTheNewGuy: Were hired by Bykov between seasons 9 and 10, so he would still have three doctors under him. When Bykov brought his son on the work in the tenth seasons' first episode, he introduced them to him just like everyone else, without mentioning them being new here.
* ShooOutTheNewGuy: Lasted only one season, and quitted their work offscreen somewhere after season 10.

* TheAlcoholic: {{Implied|Trope}} to be real reason why his wife [[HenpeckedHusband restricts his freedom so much]]. Even when he described his personal life (with [[UnreliableExpositor heavy self-bias]]), it was rather clear most of the times he was forbidden to leave, it was in one way or another related to alcohol, and ''very first thing'' he did when he attended hospital to "check up" was to ask Semyon to find some alcohol.

* HenpeckedHusband: Can't go anywhere without his wife's permission (and with her being presented). [[TheAlcoholic This is actually for his own good]]. He also has has little saying in how things gets done in their family, being forced to obey his wife's decisions.
* ObnoxiousInLaws: {{Averted|Trope}}; unlike his wife, he is actually Semyon's friend, and was ''only one'' of their family to remain in good relationship with Semyon even after his ugly breakup with Olga, and was willing to help him. [[HenpeckedHusband Not what it actually changed much]].

* PutOnABus: Disappears after seven episodes.
* SavvyGuyEnergeticGirl: With her father, Andrey Bykov; he is pragmatic, cynic and rather cold (unless you provoke him), she is energetic, optimistic and enthusiastic.

* AbusiveParents: Not intentionally, but his insistence what Sophia must train to become superior in every aspect, particularly in music, and constant freedom restrictions leaved Sophia no place for free time at all. Add here his ControlFreak tendencies, and you would start to understand why she considers returning to Kirov to be FateWorseThanDeath. Also, music lessons traumatised her enough for her to ''still'' hating Mozart and his music after so long time.
* ControlFreak: Has shades of this; his daughter Sophia must live under strict routine with no place for personal life, only for education. This backfired when she went to Moscow, with relative freedom, since she took the every opportunity to try something previously forbidden, wether it's safe or not. Even then, he forced her to regularly call him, and when he learned about her being in relationship with Gleb ([[NiceJobBreakingItHero from Gleb himself]]), he arrived in Moscow the very next day and tried to take her away by force. When it failed (Gleb suddenly proposed to Sophia, rendering him unable to do it anymore and save face), he tried to blackmail Kupitman into acting like spy for him to find something which would show Gleb in bad light, for which he actually obtained some spy gear (presumably it belonged to his grandfather, who actually worked for KGB).
* ItRunsInTheFamily: Paranoia and love for conspiracies is certainly their family trait. His grandfather was KGB agent, he is paranoidal KnightTemplarParent, and Sophia is cold, ruthless ClingyJealousGirl who always expects rivals in people around her.
* JerkassHasAPoint: He isn't exactly most sympathetic character out there, but his belief what Sophia isn't mature enough to live by herself isn't all that wrong -- because he is the cause of the problem. Whenever she's free to do as she wants, she does something reckless or downright dangerous, because she never developed survival instincts or basic common sense, [[HoistByHisOwnPetard always looking at her father for approval]]. She proved him deadly right soon afterwards when she decided to dump Gleb so she may live free, without needs to worry about things like "family".

* OverprotectiveDad: Towards his daughter. He was not amused when he found out about her relationship with Romanenko.

* DisappearedDad: Reappeared in his son's life many years after divorcing his mother, and tried to become father Gleb newer had.

* LastEpisodeNewCharacter: {{Downplayed|Trope}}. He was briefly mentioned in several early episodes, but only appeared in person and became significant to the plot in last season.
* OldFlame: One of the reasons for his return is to try and resurrect his relationship with Kisegach. He almost succeed, forcing Bykov to step in and win her back.

* LikeMotherLikeDaughter: Clearly has some common qualities with her daughter Anastasia, like [[ManipulativeBastard her talent to manipulate people]].
* ObnoxiousInLaws: Has mutual hatred with Bykov from the first sight, and never tries to hide it, even when Bykov for whatever reason does.
* RichBitch: Rich woman who has ''very'' uneasy character. Bykov learned this the hard way.

Phil's ex-girlfriend. She remain in USA when he moved to Russia, and later dumped him, in rather ugly way.

* ClosetKey: Turns out to be one for Phil's third girlfriend, Katia. As result, Katia dumped Phil for Jess.
* TheGhost: Except for one episode, where she appeared in Phil's {{Imagine Spot}}s, she never appeared in person; everything we know about her, we know from Phil's words.
* {{Jerkass}}: She and Phil made an oath of fidelity. She broke it after couple of months of his absence, dumped him via Facebook, made photos with her new boyfriend in her and Phil's "special place" (being perfectly aware what he would see it), and next day made post in Twitter how she had "her first orgasm in life" (which just can't be anything else but [[KickTheDog direct mockery of Phil]]); by contrast, it took Phil two years of romancing her before they had sex for a first time. Phil was deeply harmed by her betrayal.

Sergei even acted like Levin... which costed him his chance at internship, because this time Bykov could afford kicking out boring complainer.

** Zhanna and Vakhtang were eliminated when Alexei won the last challenge, and chose Maxim as second one to stay (Sophia by that point was accepted into internship by default).

* DepravedHomosexual: His role in Bykov's FoxChickenGrainPuzzle; he is stated to be gay, and can't stand with other male competitors, because he would try to rape them (excluding Bykov, who is strong enough to defend himself).
* TakeThisJobandShoveIt: Realising he would be disqualified anyway, Sergey took the last opportunity to call Bykov "petty tyrant" before leaving.
* TooCleverByHalf: He was smartest one amongst interns presented during Bykov's FoxChickenGrainPuzzle, but it did him little good, because actual test involved sense of humour and outside-of-the-box thinking, while he considered himself being too smart for it. Instead, he started arguing with Bykov over "illogical rules"... and was predictably disqualified, because Bykov can't work with someone so boring.

* CheatersNeverProsper: Kirill's attempts to get rid of competitors by framing them resulted in Kirill himself being disqualified... and ''only'' Kirill.
* NiceJobFixingItVillain: His attempts to sabotage Alexei and Zhanna's team only helped solving main problem in their teamwork.
* {{Sabotutor}}: Intentionally supplied Alexei with [[YouNeedToGetLaid harmful advice]], expecting him to go into conflict with Zhanna and being kicked out (possibly with her). It [[NiceJobFixingItVillain backfired]].

Lobanov is [[HairTriggerTemper very hot-tempered]], while Levin ([[BewareTheQuietOnes usually]]) would try to [[ExtremeDoormat ignore whatever abuse he suffered]].
* ForeignExchangeStudent: In exchange for Phil moving to Russia, Levin moved to USA, where he spent the rest of the series [[BackForTheFinale right until the last season]].

* JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: When it seemed what he actually loves Lyuba enough to stay with her when she asked, instead of moving to USA to continue internship here ([[IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy Lyuba secretly planned to let him go anyway, as reward for his loyalty, because it is just]] ''[[IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy that]]'' [[IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy important chance for him]])... he revealed what he never planned to cancel his ride to USA, wether Lyuba allows this or not; between his LoveInterest and his career, he chose the latter. After that, she dumped him on the spot. She tried to give him another chance much later, and even moved to USA to meet him, but this never worked out and she returned some time later, heartbroken and no longer wishing to see Levin ever again. Both times, Levin never realised just what he did wrong and was surprised what she now resents him.
* NerdsAreVirgins: Becomes painfully obvious in his debut episode, when he was forced to examine his big-breasted patient and [[DistractedByTheSexy quickly lost all cognitive abilities to hormones]]. His AgeGapRomance with Lyuba was first romance in his life, period.
* NoRespectGuy: No one takes him seriously, not even orderlies. It become plot point of one episode, where it was put to such extreme what Lyuba hired Lobanov to "train" him ([[StatusQuoIsGod nothing came out of it]]).

* OpenMouthInsertFoot: Levin has bad habit of not thinking what he tells to other people, particularly Lobanov. Usually it involves Boris being [[TooCleverByHalf smart]], and Semyon being [[TheDitz stupid]], which without fail presses Semyon's BerserkButton.
* PutOnABus: Departed to USA in the end of season 3; he gets replaced by Phil soon after that.
* SecondActBreakup: In first season, with Lyuba. It lasts two episodes (though in one of them they didn't interact at all), after which they reunited. In the end of season 3, they broke up for real.
* SmallNameBigEgo: He considers himself much better specialist than he really is.
* SecretRelationship: For most of first season, with Lyuba. This stopped being secret when angry Levin revealed the truth to Bykov, Romanenko and Lobanov (he thought they already know, and what they mocked him for it).
* SesquipedalianLoquaciousness: He often can't say even most basic things without overcomplicating them (and not only when he speaks about medicine). No one likes this, especially [[TheDitz Lobanov]]. This also includes his attempts at humour; only himself considers his jokes even remotely funny.
* TinyGuyHugeGirl: With [[BigBeautifulWoman Lyuba]].
* TooCleverByHalf: He has best education amongst original interns and [[InsufferableGenius would not miss opportunity to rub this into their face]], but when it comes to apply his knowledge on practise, sometimes commits [[TooDumbToLive really idiotic mistakes]], which not even [[BookDumb Lobanov]] would do (wether medicine-related or not). He also can't just understand what telling Lobanov what [[BerserkButton he is stupid]] is not smartest idea (no, attempt to hide it behind SesquipedalianLoquaciousness would not work), despite it backfired every. Single. Time.
