* {{Expy}}: a possibly unintentional one. Rules the Earth? Check. An EmperorScientist who deploys genetically-engineered creations? Check. Looks AmbiguouslyBrown? Check. Oppresses humanity? Check. [[WellIntentionedExtremist Ultimately doing it for a reason, as arguable as it is?]] Check. He's a lot like the [[Warhammer40K Emperor of Mankind]].

* DirtyOldMan: A highly disturbing one at the too. His actions with [[{{Lolicon}} Nia]] are especially telling. He slobbers when he laughs.

* MoralMyopia: Happily throws herself into this trope when Nia tries to get her to connect her rage over [[spoiler:Thylimph's]] death with Team Dai-Gurren losing [[spoiler:Kamina]], to no avail.

* GenreSavvy: He hears Lagann is doing things it should not be capable of and immediately takes an interest. He tricks the heroes rather than try to fight them head on. Even after imprisoning Team Gurren, Nia notes he's getting frantic when he can't find Lagann anywhere.

* TheExtremistWasRight: Thanks to his actions, [[spoiler:Earth was kept safe from the Anti-Spiral for nearly a millennium]]. Yes, his rule was oppressive, but it was better than [[spoiler:the planet's destruction]].

* {{Hotblooded}}: So much so that he ''ignites his own head''.

* DarthVaderClone: [[spoiler:They were once heroic knights fighting for justice, but were driven by the BigBad to make a FaceHeelTurn and become [[AntiVillain Anti-Villains]]. Oh, and they both make a HeroicSacrifice to save TheHero from the BigBad]]. To drive the point home, Lazengann is covered in black armor, just like Vader, and he's the ArchnemeisDad to Nia.

* AliensAreBastards: To borderline monstrous extremes. And the worst part is [[spoiler: he's convinced [[KnightTemplar he's the good guy]] even after crossing the MoralEventHorizon over and over and over again]]. However, this trope is actually played with considering The Anti Spiral itself [[spoiler: is a Spiral Race meaning that in a way, he's also ''[[HumansAreBastards human]]''.]]

* EvilFeelsGood: Despite claiming he/they have no emotions, they seem to enjoy inflicting [[DespairEventHorizon Absolute Despair]] on their enemies. [[spoiler: Subverted in that the Anti-Spiral has stated that they never wanted to do drive them to despair, only doing so because it's teh easiest way to prevent the Spiral Nemesis.]]

* HumanoidAbomination: [[spoiler:His NonstandardCharacterDesign gives him this vibe, rather than seeming human in his own right, he ends up looking like something from the game Videogame/EarthBound, not as frightening as Giygas, but the way the Anti-Spiral looks makes it seem as if he's "Out of Sync" with reality, which, in a manner of speaking, he is. There is special emphasis on the "Humanoid" part as he is a member of the same type of race as humans]].
