* ByTheBookCop: His dynamic with Kirito is very much that of the straight-laced rule abider and the CowboyCop who doesn't care for rules. He is often complaining or worrying about breaking the rules, and relies on Kirito for guidance in areas where the rules fail him. This changes when Raios and Humbert abuse their authority to sexually harass Ronye and Tiese. He immediately stops caring about the Taboo Index, which is graphically represented by his Seal of the Left Eye shattering.

* IJustWantToBeLoved: Eugeo hasn’t had the most loving childhood, with his family being openly disappointed with his Calling of cutting down the Cigas Cedar since it costs them an extra farmhand and most of the money he earned was taken by his father, only leaving him enough to buy a subpar loaf of bread and water for lunch. The only true love he had growing up was with [[ChildhoodFriend Kirito and Alice]], with the latter being arrested and at risk of execution due to [[DisproportionateRetribution accidentally placing her hand in the Dark Territory]] and the former being forced to log out of the Underworld, leaving Eugeo alone with his memories of Kirito gone. This makes him understandably attached to Kirito when he comes back, albeit with neither of them remembering the other, and convinces him to go after Alice, while also being very afraid that he’ll leave him at some point. Quinella, albeit in order to manipulate him, convinces him that [[DesperatelyCravesAffection he's taking this to it's logical extreme]] by claiming that it motivates most of his actions, such as wanting to use the position of Integrity Knight to send money to his family to earn their love, and even going as far as to say that his rescue of [[SenpaiKohai Tiese]], who had an obvious crush on him, was less motivated by her AttemptedRape by [[UpperClassTwit Raios]] being morally wrong in his eyes, but by him being angered that Raios was “[[EntitledToHaveYou taking what was his]]”. This culminates in Quinella [[MindRape Mind Raping]] and seducing him into lowering his core protection so she can turn him into an Integrity Knight, just by promising to love him like no one else has and to never stop loving him.

The {{deuteragonist}} of the Alicization arc, after Kirito. A boy who is a resident of the Underworld from Rulid Village who was a childhood friend of Kirito and Alice. His Sacred Calling is to cut down the Gigas Cedar, the seventh generation woodcutter since his predecessors. After Kirito helps him to complete said task, the two of them set out to become Swordsman.

[[folder:A-B]]
* AbusiveParents: His parents, particularly his father Orick, were of the emotional and neglectful variety. His father [[ParentalFavouritism vastly preferred his older sons over Eugeo]], often spoiling them while giving Eugeo flack for things that were either [[NeverMyFault partially his own fault]] or outside of the young boy’s control. When Eugeo got his calling as Cutter of the Gigas Cedar, which is considered by pretty much everyone in Rulid as an honorable and praise-worthy calling, Eugeo’s parents, instead of congratulating him were openly disappointed because it cost them an extra hand on the farm. To add insult to injury, Orick took all the money Eugeo earned for himself, leaving his son with only enough to buy subpar bread and water for lunch while other kids were allowed to freely spend what they got, which served to increase the bullying he received from boys like [[JerkAss Jink]]. It’s also implied that they, like almost the rest of Rulid, took part in the [[AllTheOtherReindeer mass shunning of Eugeo]] after Alice’s arrest due to his association with her instead of comforting him over the loss of his OnlyFriend. This more than likely contributed to Eugeo’s skewed definition of love and made him more susceptible to Quinella’s manipulations.
* AdaptationalAttractiveness: He used to have a bowl hairdo in the web novels. When he first appeared in the light novels, he's a certified {{Bishonen}} and even more so in the games.
* AdaptationalBadass: Introduction-wise, Eugeo started out as a villager in the light novels who would later work his way to become a swordsman. The video game continuity version of Eugeo? He's already a swordsman, especially in ''Hollow Realization'', where he becomes an Integrity Knight before the aforementioned game began.
* AdaptationDyeJob: Eugeo's eyes are green in the light novels and anime while the games gave him blue eyes.
* AdaptationalEarlyAppearance:
** In the video game continuity he's had DLC appearances in every game starting from ''Hollow Realization'', which is long before Alicization got adapted. The explanation is always that he gets pulled into whatever game Kirito is in from the Underworld. He and Alice return in ''Fatal Bullet'' and it appears they never managed to get back to the Underworld and were drawn into Gun Gale Online instead.
** In ''Memory Defrag'' there is an ongoing story line of Alice and Eugeo being pulled into ALO and partaking in the quest for the Divine Objects, with Alicization yet to have occur.
** ''Integral Factor'' takes it furthest of all, with him and Alice being introduced in SAO which is adapted from the ''Aincrad'' arc, which should be years before they even ''existed''. This one is also a case of RealLifeWritesThePlot as this special was done to commemorate the airing of the ''Alicization'' anime. Even more baffling is Eugeo knows Kirito in his world and mentions having grown up with him, implying this may be the canon Eugeo just like in ''Accel World vs Sword Art Online''. He and Alice end up staying in Aincrad to help clear SAO too.
* AdaptationalWimp: While Eugeo is no pushover in the anime, he's overall a lot less impressive than he was in the lightnovels where he was a [[TheGift sword prodigy]] who would quickly learn and master the skills and techniques Kirito taught him as well as improving upon them, whereby it was only Kirito's extensive experience that allowed him to stay ahead. In short, Eugeo really was comparable to a [[SpearCounterpart male Yuuki]]. In the anime, while Eugeo does keep up with Kirito, there is no emphasis on his exceptional talent and often times there's the impression that Eugeo still has a long way to go to bridge the gap, with only after him becoming an Integrity Knight does he surpass Kirito.
* AdventureDuo: Eugeo is the more cautious and calmer TheLancer to Kirito’s braver and more rash TheHero. Typically it’s Kirito who decides their next move, while Eugeo either follows or adds his two cents on if this was the best decision.
* AlternateTimeline: In ''Accel World vs Sword Art Online: Millenium Twilight'', the Eugeo who appears there is all but stated to be from the canonical timeline and was brought into the video game continuity through the [[TimeyWimeyBall timeline shenanigans]] going on throughout the game, as he calls out to Kirito and remembers how they grew up together, and is saddened to realize this Kirito doesn't have those memories. He gets over it pretty quickly though as they fight, reminiscing happily that memories or no, it still is Kirito.
--> '''Eugeo:''' Fairy or not, you are still Kirito, the strongest knight I know.
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: It's mentioned that he had no friends since Alice's arrest, partly because he isolated himself by choice, and party because people shunned him for having been close to Alice.
* AlwaysWithYou: During Kirito's HeroicBSOD, it is Eugeo's spirit returning that finally snaps him back to his senses. The implication is that traces of Eugeo's fluctlight remain attached to Kirito's.
* AmbiguouslyBi: Mostly restricted to the gameverse, where his {{bromance}} with Kirito is amped up and given more suggestive moments. It's obvious that Eugeo is mostly into women, with his attraction to Alice and Tiese, along with being seduced by Quinella. However, the non-expanded universe material like video games tend to put him and Kirito into amusing ShipTease moments.
** During the Social Mode event "An Odd Feeling" in ''Rising Steel'', Kirito and Eugeo have a practice spar that leads to them having a SuggestiveCollision with Eugeo on top of Kirito and their faces close to each other, leaving the both of them flustered and staring into each other's eyes before Kirito tells him to get off.
* TheAntiNihilist: The Gameverse version of him shows he start to slowly develop this view of his own life in general, realizing for all of the bad things that happened in his life, he still had hope by meeting Kirito again and finally deciding to search for his own happiness after his original mission to retrieve Alice Zuberg memory crystal is finally fulfilled.
* TheApprentice: Kirito teaches him the Aincrad style of Swordsmanship and he often relies on Kirito for advice in other areas.
* ArchEnemy: To Quinella. It turns out the pontifex is directly or indirectly responsible for everything that has ever gone wrong in his life. She created the Integrity Knights that had Alice captured, she subjects Eugeo to MindRape and forcefully synthesizing him, as well as the process of synthesizing Alice resulting in ColdBloodedTorture. Defeating Quinella becomes Eugeo's number one priority where he is even willing to give up his life to ensure it happens.
* ArcHero: Of the first half of the ''Alicization'' arc.
* AwfulTruth: In the epilogue of ''Lycoris'', he and Alice found out from Kirito that the people from the real world are the true cause of the upcoming War of Underworld as part of Rath's plan to test them. This genuinely horrified the two thanks to the fact that Rath simply saw them and the entire Underworld as pawns for their goals.
* BadassBookworm: Eugeo is hinted to enjoy reading, being in awe of Cardinal's Library and spending his time reading the books there while she and Kirito talked, and some scenes have shown him with an open book while speaking to other characters.
* BashBrothers: Gains this dynamic with Kirito, with the two of them fighting alongside each other since they first met in the Underworld.
* BelievingTheirOwnLies: He sees himself as this in ''Lycoris''. His character quest shows him finally deciding to open up to Kirito about his issues with his family. It turns out that he's actually aware of the emotional abuse and neglect he had to endure since he was young, yet he chose to do anything to gain his parents' love forever. He even believed that, by becoming an Integrity Knight, he could finally gain the appreciation he always longed for. Eugeo obviously thinks himself as an idiot, and tells Kirito that he is not planning to go back to his family ever again due to the fact that his family held contempt for him due to being a disappointment in their eyes and leaving them behind. Therefore, he finally decided to start anew with himself by doing things that he actually enjoyed instead of other people's expectations, implying that Eugeo is planning to cut ties with his family for good (except his sister). This actually becomes a plot point for Eugeo's story during the ''Myosotis'' DLC.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Eugeo generally comes off as a [[NiceGuy nice and reasonable person]] who, like his BestFriend, is [[ChronicHeroSyndrome willing to help those in need]]. However, he has some latent anger issues stemming from his childhood and witnessing the injustices of the Axiom Church first-hand. This is shown during his encounters with Raios and Humbert's AttemptedRape of Ronye and Tiese, in which he cuts Humbert's arm off, and when he and Kirito fight the Integrity Knights, during which he's heavily {{Implied}} to be fighting with the intention to kill and actually ''beats'' [[WorldsBestWarrior Bercouli]], and would have ended up killing him if not for Chudelkin's intervention.
* BirdsOfAFeather : With Asuna in ''Alicization Lycoris'', due to their similiar personalities and the fact they both also oftenly act as a StraightMan for Kirito, something that Kirito himself constantly [[LampshadeHanging lampshades.]]
* {{Bishonen}}: Drawn with very attractive and effeminate features, just like Kirito.
* BlowYouAway: Alongside [[AnIcePerson ice]], Eugeo seems to find himself associated with the wind element, namely when as an Integrity Knight, he uses one to propel Kirito backwards after he's disarmed by him.
* BlueIsHeroic: All of his outfits, including his academy uniform are blue, and he aspires to be as brave and heroic as Kirito, matching his Blue Rose Sword as well. Zigzagged when he becomes an Integrity Knight, as he keeps the blue colors but is BrainwashedAndCrazy, albeit as a FakeDefector in both the anime and light novels. Played straight in the gameverse.
* BlueMeansCold: He has various blue outfits and wields the Blue Rose Sword, which possesses an ice based Memory Release technique that allows him to trap people in ice and [[LifeDrain drain their durability]]..
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: Eugeo ends up being synthesised into an Integrity Knight by Quinella, where he loses all traces of his former self and is only loyal to carrying out Quinella's will. When Quinella decides to finish the process, his memories of Kirito help him regain control.
* BreakTheBadass: Quinella preys on his vulnerable heart and thoroughly corrupts him until he's completely submissive to her will.
* BreakTheCutie: In ''Myosotis'', Eugeo had to endure living for ''hundred years alone'' and cross DespairEventHorizon because he was trapped inside a town without any way to escape. Except, it never happened because AllJustADream, though it does give a very good example on what Eugeo could became if he ever lost Kirito and everyone he cares about.
* BreakoutCharacter: Eugeo is one of the most insanely popular characters among the fandom, with the boy scoring the highest amount of votes in polls among the ''Alicization'' characters. Starting from ''Hollow Realization'', he and Alice have been featured in every ''SAO'' game as DLC content, even before their anime counterparts debuted. Kawahara even considered sparing Eugeo's death in the anime adaptation, but didn't go through with it.
* BrokenAce: He’s [[{{Bishonen}} good looking]], [[NiceGuy kind]], intelligent, and [[MasterSwordsman Kirito]] notes that he has more innate skill in swordsmanship than him and could very well surpass him one day. However, he suffered from a borderline abusive childhood that gave him a skewed view of love, which led to him being subject to brainwashing courtesy of Quinella.
* BrokenBird: While it was hinted at the canon timeline, ''Lycoris'' DLC ''Myosotis'' shows how broken Eugeo is underneath his cheerful facade. His DreamLand in chapter 3 is basically one gigantic PsychologicalTormentZone, with a dose of BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor, that shows what actually he is underneath, a clinically depressed and cynical young man [[HiddenDisdainReveal who hates the world around him for taking away his happpiness, his family for using him and treats him like a disposable tool]] and is revealed to be very [[DeathSeeker suicidal and hates himself to the point he just wants to run away from the reality he has]], [[TruthInTelevision which is very much like many symptoms of depression in real life]].
* BrokenPedestal: One could argue that he has this for the Axiom Church, seeing as he goes from something of a RulesLawyer to an outright rebel after witnessing many examples of the Taboo Index's blatant unfairness.
* BromanticFoil: With Kirito, since the two of them are best friends. Kirito is the more rebellious and courageous of the two, while Eugeo is calmer, more sensible, and reserved.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:C-F]]
* CallForward: In ''Accel World vs Sword Art Online: Millennium Twilight'' the AlternateTimeline Eugeo that Kirito meets drops a lot of reveals for the then unaired ''Alicization'' arc, including the fact they grew up together as ChildhoodFriends and trained to be Integrity Knights.
* CallingYourAttacks: "Enhance Arnament!" "Bloom! Blue Roses!"
* {{Catchphrase}}: "[[GratuitousEnglish Stay cool]]", which he learnt from Kirito.
* CharacterDevelopment: He starts developing the "ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight" mindset when Ronye and Tiese are about to be raped by Raios and Humbert. He also gains the resolve to save Alice and oppose the Axiom Church as a result.
** ''Alicization Lycoris'' expanded this through his Character Quest, showing Eugeo finally coming to terms with his past, becoming more independent and confident as he starts to work on his abandonment issues. He also starts becoming more open with his own feelings as he shows open disgust to his own village's fanatical loyalty to the Taboo Index.
* ChasteHero: ''Lycoris'' shows that Eugeo is very oblivious to sexual innuendos and other things that may put him in embarrassing situations due to his sheltered past, which obviously troubles Kirito due to the fact that Eugeo's InnocentlyInsensitive nature and nice personality might make things worse for him. Not helping that is Kirito's reluctance to tell him directly about this as he doesn't want to taint Eugeo's purity, resulting in Eugeo's airheaded personality giving both of them trouble on occasions.
* ChickMagnet: Not quite on [[UnwantedHarem Kirito's level]], but Eugeo was close to Alice growing up, Kirito suspects that Selka had a crush on him, and Tiese is outright stated to be in love with him and hopes he can marry her in fear that she'd be [[ArrangedMarriage arranged to marry a]] JerkAss like Raios or Humbert. He also gets some ShipTease with Alice Synthesis Thirty in some non-canon materials, which to be fair could be due to her lingering memories as Child Alice.
** Tiese adds to this if chosen as the homescreen character in ''Rising Steel'', saying there were many female students who wanted to be Eugeo's page[[note]] Tiese is {{Implied}} to see the player as Eugeo[[/note]].
** PlayedForLaughs in ''Lycoris'' DLC ''The Taboo Knight'', twice. The first one is when a group of ladies mistakes him for a man with the moniker "The Emerald Knight", [[IdenticalStranger who resembles him ''a lot'']], which results in Eugeo getting flocked and hugged by many woman which flabbergasts Eugeo and caused Tiese's jealousy in the first place. The second one is right after Tiese saved him from a falling ceiling debris. Tiese hugs him out of relief for his safety, unaware of the many people around them, much to Eugeo's embarrassment. Tiese run away when she realizes this and [[TheGadfly Kirito]] proceeds to call Eugeo a ladykiller for this, combined with the former, to milk out the reactions out of him.
* ChildhoodFriends: To Alice and [[MindScrew maybe Kirito]].
* ChronicHeroSyndrome: Eugeo has a penchant for helping others, such as when he shared his food to Kirito and offering assistance to Tiese to lessen her Valet job. Unlike most examples, however, he's also conscious of his well-being at the same time.
* CollateralAngst: His brutal death at the hands of Quinella causes Kirito's HeroicBSOD and subsequent BreakTheCutie moment.
* CompanionCube: Views the Blue Rose Sword in this light, often asking it to give him its strength when using it or its Memory Release Technique.
** A flashback in ''Moon Cradle'' reveals that he actually encouraged this attitude to Ronye and Tiese, stating that one's weapon, and maybe even mundane objects used in day-to-day life or elements generated by Sacred Arts, are likely to be more effective if you treat them with enough care and affection. While confused at first, since they largely treated practice swords as easily replaceable tools their whole life, they immediately understood what he meant when they started polishing their platinum-oak training swords to repair the damage they received in practice, and found themselves wielding them with much greater ease than they did before.
** ''Alicization Lycoris'' extends this view by revealing that he felt the sword's loneliness when he saw its memory, with Eugeo deciding to treat the sword as his own friend so it won't be lonely anymore. The sword eventually synchronizes with him in one of his Character Quest, with it deciding to thank Eugeo by giving him a newly bloomed blue rose near Rulid Village's entrance. He even treats Kirito's Night Sky Sword with the same view as well, something that Kirito mutually agrees with as well.
* ConflictingLoyalty: While he's determined to save Alice, he also feels responsible for providing for his family, which is why he feels guilty about going off to the Academy (which results in them sending him money, rather than the other way around) and ending up as a fugitive.
* ContrastingSequelProtagonist: Unlike the previous {{Arc Hero}}es, Eugeo is a boy and takes up the role of Kirito's best friend. He's not a fellow gamer to Kirito, given he's an AI who resides in a fantasy themed virtual world.
* CooldownHug: He gives one to Kirito in ''Lycoris'', after Medina [[HeroicSacrifice gave up her own life]] by turning herself into a weapon that could kill the now [[InvincibleVillain invincible]] Quinella. Which ends up triggering Kirito's trauma over the SAO incident, especially Sachi's death due to the similarities between the said incident, poor Kirito had a massive breakdown and is close to crying from the guilt, despite the whole situation being out of his control. Kirito seriously needs that hug in the end.
* CrucifiedHeroShot: The anime has him doing this when Cardinal fuses him with his sword so he can defeat the a Sword Golem, shortly before he performs a HeroicSacrifice by launching a suicidal attack at Quinella resulting in him getting bisected.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Eugeo was born to a family of farmers who, save for his older sister, didn’t seem to actually care much for him and at best seemed to view him as a potential farmhand, with his father showing [[ParentalFavouritism favoritism towards his eldest sons]], which only got worse he got the prestigious calling of cutting down the Gigas Cedar, which by law prevented him from helping on the farm and prompted his father to take all the money Eugeo earned from it [[DisproportionateRetribution despite the whole thing being out of his control]]. He only had two friends growing up, Alice and Kirito, and one day when going on an adventure, he [[HarmfulToMinors witnessed a Dark Knight get murdered]] and Alice accidentally place a few fingers in the Dark Territory, which got her arrested the next day and he was ForcedToWatch due to the Seal of the Right Eye preventing him from stopping it. And, as if to add insult to injury, Kirito was logged out soon after and his memories of him were blocked, meaning he remembers Alice being his OnlyFriend and thus to him, all the blame fell on him. Shortly after Alice’s arrest, the majority of the village, save for his sister, Alice’s little sister Selka and the previous Gigas Cedar cutter Garritta, began to shun and ignore him due to how close he was to Alice, and he regulated himself to cutting the Gigas Cedar for the rest of his life as a distraction.
* DeadpanSnarker: Being around [[EccentricMentor Kirito]] has turned him into one.
* {{Determinator}}: Once Kirito stirred him from his funk there is little that can sway him. He manages to outright power through the Seal of the Right Eye to the point his ''[[EyeScream eye exploded]]'' and cut off Humbert's [[AnArmAndALeg arm immediately after]], which is especially notable when Alice, an Integrity Knight, did the same later but passed out immediately after. Even when cut in half, he managed the will to give Kirito an assist in the final battle with Quinella.
* {{Deuteragonist}}: The ArcHero for the first half of ''Alicization''. His story arc is about working with Kirito to become an Integrity Knight in their quest to find Alice. He receives a considerable amount of focus and at times even [[SwitchingPOV takes the spotlight away from Kirito]]. He will also become the main lead for his own story in ''Alicization Lycoris'' DLC chapter ''Myosotis''.
* DespairEventHorizon: Chapter 3 of the ''Lycoris'' DLC ''Myosotis'' isn't kind to him ''[[{{Understatement}} at all]]''. Eugeo is trapped inside a castle for hundred years alone and no matter what he did he cannot die. Unable to escape or get out of town, he resorted to rule the entire town as king where the Taboo Index and even Calling doesn't even exist. But having to live such a long life, combined with his deep-seated grudge, insecurities and loneliness nurtured for years, Eugeo starts to slowly suffer from a combination of SanitySlippage and GoMadFromTheIsolation which ultimately destroys most of his capabilities to emote and hates anyone who dares to go against him. Except, it's AllJustADream created by using Eugeo's weak emotional and mental health as a weapon by a Man-Eating Tapir Divine Beast to trap Kirito and others inside said dream and eat them alive. When he wakes up, Eugeo doesn't remember any of it at all, but Kirito's desire to protect Eugeo becomes stronger because of the said incident.
* FaceDeathWithDignity: He accepts his death with peace, even dissuading Kirito from healing him.
* FishOutOfTemporalWater: In ''Accel World VS Sword Art Online'', due to the [[TimeyWimeyBall time travel shenanigans]] of the game and the fact the game continuity is an AlternateTimeline to the canon continuity, Kirito ends up meeting a version of Eugeo from another timeline (who is implied to be the canon version). Upon seeing Kirito, Eugeo mistakes him for ''his'' Kirito and tries to get him to remember, only to be disappointed that this Kirito has no memories of their time together[[note]]at this point [[HaveWeMetYet Kirito hadn't met Eugeo yet]] since the ''Alicization'' Arc hadn't happened[[/note]]. However after having a friendly duel with Kirito to test him, Eugeo realizes that while this is a different Kirito, it is still Kirito who fights the exact same way. He then takes up on Kirito's offer to hang out and party with him until he's able to return to his own timeline.
* EarlyBirdCameo:
** Eugeo makes his first voiced appearance in ''Hollow Realization'', ''Accel World VS Sword Art Online'', and ''Fatal Bullet'' as part of DLC, well before he appeared in the anime.
** He's also featured as a playable character in ''Memory Defrag'' before his anime debut.
* {{Expy}}: Of [[LightNovel/AccelWorld Takumu Mayuzumi/Cyan Pile]] being the [[ChildhoodFriends childhood]] [[HeterosexualLifePartners best friend]] of TheHero with a blue ColorMotif.
* EyeScream: His eye bursts after breaking the Taboo Index by slicing off Humbert's arm, but Azurica heals the damage the next morning.
* FakeDefector: Used his status as an Integrity Knight so he could get close to Quinella and assassinate her.
* FatalFlaw: Aside from his ChronicHeroSyndrome, his [[LeeroyJenkins recklessness]] can get him into trouble at times.
* FightingYourFriend: Due to Quinella's forced synthesis, he ends up fighting Kirito.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:G-M]]
* GeniusSweetTooth: Eugeo shows signs of these as he loves to eat Honey pies and the Cake timeline reveals that he put a lot of sugar in his tea because of the bitter taste, which he didn't like at all, combined by the fact Kirito make a Strawberry Shortcake birthday cake for him because he knew how Eugeo would love to eat it since sweets are basically one of his favorites.
* GrewASpine: Becomes more daring as the story goes on.
* GoOutWithASmile: He smiles in his final moments with Kirito by his side.
* GuardianEntity: His "spirit" shows up during Kirito's fight against Gabriel, and later in the epilogue.
* GuileHero: Likely something he got from Kirito’s teachings. He even managed to beat Bercouli, who is pretty much the [[WorldsBestWarrior Underworld’s Best Warrior]], through this. He used his Blue Rose Sword’s special ability and stabbed it into the ceiling, charging Bercouli with a long icicle for Bercouli to break and catch him off guard. He then grabbed his sword once it fell from the ceiling and used its Memory Release Technique while Bercouli was still slack-jawed, trapping them both and draining Bernoulli's life, anticipating that he has less due to his older age and will die before him.
* HalfTheManHeUsedToBe: After Quinella slices the Sword of Blue Rose in half when Eugeo was merged, he was un-merged with the middle of his torso as blood red crystal.
* HaveWeMet: Upon Kirito's return to the Underworld, the two boys have several of these moments due to both of their memories of each other from their childhood being erased. However there are instances where memories keep seeping through and both seem familiar. When Eugeo takes a serious wound and having Alice Zuberg's memories, he finally remembers that he, Alice, and Kirito grew up together in the village.
* TheHeart: The DLC ''Myosotis'' shows he's basically this for the Academy Group and to an extent, the Integrity Knights and Kirito Group, as his kind hearted personality and positive aura keeps everyone from losing their morality. In fact, chapter 3 shows it how much he meant for the group when they decided to save him after he seemingly disappeared and got captured
* HeroicBSOD: He's visibly stunned after finding out that Bercouli killed the dragon who guarded the Sword of Blue Rose.
* HeroicResolve: He'll save Alice no matter what it takes, even if it means breaking the rules to do it.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: [[TrueCompanions Nakama]] and general best friend to Kirito, as well as one of the few close male friends Kirito's had, which makes him a LivingEmotionalCrutch on the same level as '''''[[LoveInterest Asuna]]'''''.
* HurtingHero: At the start of the arc, Eugeo is traumatized by Alice’s arrest and is guilt-ridden by his inability to stop it, but he still resolves to become an Integrity Knight himself and save her after Kirito comes back.
* AnIcePerson: His Sword of Blue Rose creates thorny vines of ice out of the ground. In terms of appearance, Eugeo consistently wears blue and white clothing and armor.
* IdenticalStranger: He almost looks like a Caucasian Kirito, with many of their facial designs including their hair styles, height, and even their clothing being the same.
Quinella, albeit in order to manipulate him, convinces him that [[DesperatelyCravesAffection he's taking this to it's logical extreme]] by claiming that it motivates most of his actions, such as wanting to use the position of Integrity Knight to send money to his family to earn their love, and even going as far as to say that his rescue of [[SempaiKouhai Tiese]], who had an obvious crush on him, was less motivated by her AttemptedRape by [[UpperClassTwit Raios]] being morally wrong in his eyes, but by him being angered that Raios was “[[EntitledToHaveYou taking what was his]]”. This culminates in Quinella [[MindRape Mind Raping]] and seducing him into lowering his core protection so she can turn him into an Integrity Knight, just by promising to love him like no one else has and to never stop loving him.
* IKnowYoureInThereSomewhereFight: Kirito attempts this after Eugeo gets newly synthesised into an Integrity Knight. But it doesn't really work and he's forced to battle his friend.
* InstantExpert: Lampshaded by Alice. When Eugeo is synthesised into an Integrity Knight, he is unusually proficient for a novice with a mastery of the Sacred Arts. This is because Quinella synthesised him with an improved Synthesis Module that allowed him to use the power of "Meaning" immediately.
* {{Irony}}: It is Eugeo, not Alice, who ends up becoming the AI created for war that Kikuoka sought when he breaks free of the Seal of the Right Eye and by extension the Taboo Index on his ''own free will'', whereas Alice broke the Taboo Index by accident and only overcame the Seal of the Right eye ''much'' later with prompting from Kirito.
* IWillWaitForYou : In ''Alicization Lycoris'', he gives one to Kirito in the [[GoldenEnding true ending]] after he gathers enough courage to confront Kirito as he goes back to the Real World with Kirito promising that this time, he won't take six years to go back to the Underworld again. [[WhenHeSmiles Eugeo's smile at the end really sells it.]]
* LastBreathBullet: He manages to cut off Quinella's arm with his suicide attack, leaving her in a weakened position that made it possible for Kirito to defeat her.
* {{Leitmotif}}: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRNPp1mbV2s "The Blue Rose Battle"]] serves as his main theme.
* LifeDrain: Another ability of his Blue Rose Sword is that it can drain the durability of any living creature captured in it's ice using the Rose's thorns. However, there are no hints that the drained life goes to Eugeo or the sword itself.
* LivingEmotionalCrutch: His childhood friends, Alice and Kirito, were this to him. When both of them were gone, Eugeo lost the will to live and would idle his life away by spending his days trying to cut down the Gigas Cedar that was his sole life purpose. Kirito's return brings him back on his feet and he starts living again.
* MasculineGirlFeminineBoy: He's the gentle, caring boy to Alice's fierce LadyOfWar.
* MasterSwordsman: While he was still a trainee at the time, Kirito noted that Eugeo had more potential as a Swordsman than even him.
* MessianicArchetype: The anime goes out of the way to depict him as one, with him performing a HeroicSacrifice to take down [[SatanicArchetype Quinella]] and save humanity. He even has a CrucifiedHeroShot as if he were Jesus on the cross, when he [[FusionDance fuses]] with his sword.
** Then there's his NotQuiteDead status along with his [[AmbiguousSituation possible]] [[BackFromTheDead revival]] as Eolyne.
* MomentOfWeakness: Allowing himself to be manipulated by Quinella and turned into an Integrity Knight. Quinella managed to interfere with him mentally to make him submit willingly.
* MusclesAreMeaningless: Lycoris showed, that Eugeo is pretty slender and doesn't packed much muscle. Yet, he's not only strong from his experience as a woodcutter, but Golgorosso training also give him a quite physical strength as well. Kirito even mention that Eugeo muscles is slightly bigger than him.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone:
** He's horrified at how he sliced off Humbert's arm, and briefly [[IAmAMonster wonders if he's any different from the goblins who abducted Selka]].
** He has a similar reaction when after becoming an Integrity Knight, he ends up fighting Kirito.
* MyGreatestFailure: As a child, his cowardice resulted with Alice being taken to the Central Cathedral and turned into an Integrity Knight. He spent ''six years'' trying to cut down the Gigas Cedar as an excuse to forget about leaving his village... until Kirito is dumped back into UW by Rath.
* NamedWeapon: Sword of the Blue Rose.

* NotQuiteDead: Implied. While Kirito is brain-dead, it is Eugeo's spirit who returns to will Kirito awake so he can save his friends. Kirito suspects that a part of Eugeo is imprinted on Kirito's Fluctlight and tried to find a trace of him.
** The appearance of Eolyne in ''Unital Ring'' further muddles this, with his physical and behavioral similarities, [[FreudianSlip having slipped up and referring to himself by]] [[UsefulNotes/JapaneseHonorifics Boku]], hinting that the Star King may have discovered a way to bring Eugeo BackFromTheDead and experimented with it. Whether this experiment succeeded or failed has yet to be seen.
* NotTooDeadToSaveTheDay: When Gabriel slices off Kirito's left arm, Eugeo's spirit gets a hold of the Blue Rose Sword and block his attack, giving Kirito the opening to counter with the finishing blow.
** First intervenes from the beyond to encourage and push Eldrie to hold out long enough to ensure he'd be the only legitimate casualty killed by the Death Worms.
* OddNameOut: He's the only member of the main cast whose name doesn't begin with the same letter as anyone else.
* ThePowerOfHate: He despises the Integrity Knights for what they did to Alice, and gets rather upset whenever they claim to have any honor. Kirito, concerned for Eugeo, tells him that he should fight out of a desire to save Alice, rather than out of hatred.
* RageBreakingPoint: He explodes when he finds out that Deusolbert was responsible for arresting Alice eight years ago, and out of sheer resentment attempts to finish off a downed Deusolbert. Eugeo hesitates, however, after Deusolbert lowers his head, and is consoled by Kirito, who informs him that Deusolbert has no recollection of his past actions since his memories were erased at some point afterwards.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Gives these twice to two different [[HeroAntagonist Integrity Knights]].
** When he learns that Deusolbert was the Integrity Knight who arrested Alice when she was 12, he calls him out on claiming to have honor when he’s willing to [[DisproportionateRetribution arrest and execute a little girl over an accident]] as he prepares to kill him.
** Gives a more subdued one to Bercouli, stating that he hates the Integrity Knights [[LaserGuidedAmnesia for forgotting who they truly are]] and their BlindObedience the [[CorruptChurch Axiom Church]] despite multiple hints that they’re not as good as they make themselves out to be, all while claiming to be protectors of peace, justice and order despite the blatant unfairness in the Taboo Index.
* ReluctantFanserviceGuy: A Social Event in ''Rising Steel'' reveals that Golgorosso once had Eugeo strip in a secluded restaurant he frequented and brought Eugeo to so he can check on his muscle growth, and the female patrons wasted no time in EatingTheEyeCandy, much to his embarrassment.
* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: If the rules are immoral by his standards, he would rather break them.
* SempaiKohai: In the academy, he is formally Golgorosso's kohai and Teise's sempai specifically. It's a system to assist in teaching the underclassman in both situations.
* SignificantBirthDate: Eugeo's birthday is revealed to be April 10th, meaning birthday is 4/10. This alludes to Error 410 which means, "gone", alluding to his eventual fate.
* SparedByTheAdaptation: WordOfGod has stated that ''Alicization Lycoris'' will feature an alternate route that will allow you to save Eugeo from his unpleasant fate. Sure enough, in said game, Eugeo survives the confrontation with Quinella, because [[ForWantOfANail Kirito managed to stop his suicidal charge]] and instead dual wields the Eugeo-fused Blue Rose Sword alongside his Night Sky Sword to take Quinella down.
* SpearCounterpart: To Yuuki. Eugeo is to Kirito what Yuuki is to Asuna, the best friend who is like family and a MasterSwordsman. Both also end up dying leading their best friend to grieve.
* StartXToStopX: He brought up the idea of fusing himself with the Blue Rose Sword to fight Quinella's sword golem despite Kirito's pleas, becoming the same as it conceptually but stronger due to his bond with Alice, injuring Quinella and finishing the golem.
* TheStoic: As an Integrity Knight, Eugeo Synthesis Thirty-Two shows even less emotion than Alice did.
* SummonToHand: As an Integrity Knight, Eugeo mastered a high level Sacred Art to call his sword to his hand.
* TalkingThroughTechnique: In ''Accel World vs Sword Art Online: Millenium Twilight'', a version of Eugeo is pulled into the game through all the time travel mishaps going on and appears to be the Eugeo of the [[AlternateTimeline canon continuity]]. When he sees Kirito he is saddened to discover this Kirito doesn't have the memories of the one he knows, so he resorts to having a duel with Kirito to see if he truly is the one. Eugeo is delighted to discover that Kirito fights the same way, and even though this isn't ''his'' Kirito it's still Kirito.
* TeenGenius: He's a bit late-bloomer though, but he not only proves himself to be a genius swordsman, he's revealed to be a genius when coming into Sacred Arts as he manage to master all eight elements at fast rate and he's actually able to directly rival Alice if he ever decided to continue his study. In fact, ''Lycoris'' and its side material had Bercouli actually took note to this and had him acting as a mentor for the army recruits from the academy ecause of this.
* ThereAreNoTherapists: After Alice is arrested, Eugeo never received anything resembling help that would allow to deal with the trauma of seeing his BestFriend being arrested by an Integrity Knight, instead [[AllTheOtherReindeer suffering mass shunning from the other villagers]] [[DownplayedTrope save for]] [[CoolBigSis his older sister]], [[BigSisterWorship Selka]] and [[CoolOldGuy Old Man Garritta.]] Needless to say, [[BrokenAce he has a few issues in regards to these]], such as a [[DesperatelyCravesAffection skewed definition of love and fears of abandonment.]]
* TogetherInDeath: With the young Alice Zuberg, who dies along with Eugeo, leaving only Alice Synthesis Thirty behind.
* TookALevelInBadass: Went from a woodcutting villager, to a elite swordsman, and finally to an Integrity Knight.
* TrademarkFavouriteFood: Pies, which Alice usually brought him for lunch when he was cutting down the Gigas Cedar.
** A flashback in ''Moon Cradle'' has Kirito jokingly claiming that [[HeterosexualLifePartners their bond]] is so strong that he could steal his slice of pie with no repercussions, only for Eugeo to retort that the moment he actually does that their friendship is over.
* TragicKeepsake: Eugeo's broken Blue Rose Sword gets carried around by Kirito after Eugeo's death and Kirito becomes an EmptyShell. The poor boy never lets the sword out of his sight and despairs whenever it's no longer in his grasp.
* TheTragicRose: A big part of Eugeo's motif, shows up literally in Cardinal's story of how the Blue Rose Sword was created.
* TranquilFury: Post part one ''Alicization'' story in the Gameverse, this is pretty much Eugeo way of handling his temper now with Eugeo usual soft and casual mid high pitched tone turn far more colder and lower when he is angry, this is best shown in ''Lycoris'' DLC when he face against a noble who tried to abuse his privileges to punish Tiese for mistaking him as someone else.
* TroubledButCute: Eugeo's issues give him quite a lot of hangups in the present, but this doesn't stop him from retaining his kindness and nice personality, which makes people like him as a result.
* TwoGuysAndAGirl: Formed one with Alice and Kirito during the Underworld.
* UnskilledButStrong: Initially Eugeo is noted by Kirito to be a [[TheGift sword prodigy]], who masters skills at a staggering speed. However Kirito is still able to keep ahead of him due to years more experience and trained Eugeo himself. Nonetheless, Eugeo does eventually surpass Kirito after [[TemporarilyAVillain becoming an Integrity Knight]], placing him as StrongAndSkilled.
* VitriolicBestBuds: He and Kirito enjoy sniping at each other, but nevertheless are the best of friends.
* WhatIsThisThingYouCallLove: Due to his poor family life, Eugeo has a skewed definition on what “love” actually means. However, as his page quote shows, he manages to find a more solid definition.
* WhatTheHellHero: In a original scene in ''Rising Steel'', he calls Kirito out on his constant lateness to return to their dorm room when it leads to Ronye, who persistently waits for him to return to give her report, getting a fever. In response, Kirito makes her some remedy tea to help her feel better and promises to start coming back earlier.
* YouAreNotAlone: His "spirit" gives one to snap Kirito out of his DespairEventHorizon.
** Ironically, he's on the receiving end of this in ''Myosotis'' by none other than Kirito himself who snap him out of his DespairEventHorizon after he nearly DrivenToSuicide by [[SuicideByCop asking Kirito to kill him to escape the pain he endured as he's tired over being continously screwed up by the world he hated so much]], with Ronie, Tiese, and Medina also helping him to convince him to go back with them to reality instead of choose to stay inside the dream world.
* YouCantFightFate: Played with. ''Alicization Lycoris'' reveals that Eugeo is fated to die at Quinella's hands since the very beginning, because the Main Visualizer had correctly predicted his death to happen at that time and [[BecauseDestinySaysSo tried to make it happen in the game.]] It's also revealed that the Main Visualizer had the capability to not only almost correctly predict '''everything''' in Underworld, but it also had the capability to predict the "impossible" (AKA the AlternateTimeline) as well, as long there are strong influence from outside (like Kirito, who managed to avert Eugeo's death as told in SparedByTheAdaptation above) that could throw what originally meant to be happen to a whole new timeline which the Main Visualizer will adapt as well, meaning Eugeo's death '''[[ScrewDestiny is]]''' avoidable. Kirito is so suprised by what the Main Visualizer could do that he realizes there are more things he doesn't know about the Underworld and the Main Visualizer itself.
