* WrongGenreSavvy: Attempted the Natalie White-perfected tactic of hiding behind the aggressive strategist and then win because the jury didn't want the one that cut their throats to win. It failed partly because she never made any big moves on her own (while ''Samoa'' Natalie worked the Galu ladies to off Erik), but also because she didn't appear to make the effort to get to know ''about,'' let alone befriend, the former Zapatera members. By contrast, an instrumental part in Natalie ''White's'' victory was building bonds with the former Galu.

* ActionGirl: When she puts her mind to challenges, she really can win them! She's almost like the female Brett in this regards.

* {{Foreshadowing}}: If you look in the early challenges, you can see that Ashley actually isn't doing bad, even at challenges that are slanted towards the physically stronger Grant or Zapatera tribe. Later on; she winds up becoming Rob's second obstacle in the season.

* FatalFlaw: Waiting too long before making a move against Rob - had she flipped to the Zapateras when Matt came back, chances are she would have done better.

* IdenticalStranger: When assessing the cast, Jeff points out his resemblance to Fabio from ''Nicaragua'', but notes that their personalities are completely different.

* WrongGenreSavvy: Attempted the Natalie White-perfected tactic of hiding behind the aggressive strategist and then win because the jury didn't want the one that cut their throats to win. It failed partly because she never made any big moves on her own (while ''Samoa'' Natalie worked the Galu ladies to off Erik), but also because she didn't make the effort to get to know about, let alone befriend, the former Zapatera members. By contrast, an instrumental part in Natalie ''White's'' victory was building bonds with the former Galu.

* HeyItsThatGuy: While not as well known as Jimmy Johnson, he's a former offensive lineman.
* OnlySaneMan: Of the Zapateras once Mike was gone.
* OutOfFocus: started off making one think he might get far...but he slowly drifted OutOfFocus. We ''did'' get to see him give more than three confessionals, though.

* {{Foreshadowing}}: When the idea to throw the challenge comes up, Julie's the sole dissenter of the alliance, pointing out that throwing challenges could give the other tribe momentum. Not only does this build up to her being the swing vote at Tribal Council, it also foreshadows Ometepe chain-winning immunities after Zapatera threw the challenge.

* EntitledBastard: To the bitter, bitter, ''bitter'' end.

* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: The moment Russell stepped off the plane she wanted to align with him, thinking he could take her to endgame where she could easily beat him because he's [[JerkWithAHeartOfJerk Russell]] [[EntitledBastard Hantz.]] It didn't turn out that way, partly because this time people knew who he was.

When his tribe threw a challenge to get rid of him ("I'm dealing with a bunch of bitches!"), he failed to realize just what he did wrong.

* GracefulLoser: The only jury member perfectly willing to admit Rob beat him.

* InformedAbility: He's supposedly really good at puzzles but when we finally get to see him do them, he loses both times due to overthinking them and taking too long. Maybe he had a couple enemies in the editing crew or something.

* BornLucky: Gets dealt the equivalent of the Royal Flush hand in Survivor. Comes back ''knowing'' the game from the previous ''three times'' he's played it, gets put on a tribe that's perfectly willing to pledge UdyingLoyalty to him, manages to have the producers conveniently forget the "Russell factor" when hiding idols[[hottip:*:The clues were more vague and the idols were hid in less obvious locations. For some reason, Ralph manages to find the idol in plain sight, Kristina finds it in episode one, and Rob finds it in a [[SarcasmMode very well hidden spot]] on a tree]] also has the luck to be put on one of the most imbalanced tribes ever[[hottip:*:The Ometepes consist of five people younger than 30, the Zapateras have only two.]] (Although to be fair, Russell could have been put on Ometepe too) is known for being good at puzzles and gets puzzle challenge after puzzle challenge thrown at him for individual immunities with absolutely no [[AchillesHeel Food challenges]] and only one endurance challenge...Damn, it's amazing if the production staff wasn't slanting the show, or he's just ''that'' Badass or a lucky one!
** In the interest of fairness it should also be noted that Survivor as a whole started skewing to putting puzzles in every single Immunity challenge ''long'' before Boston Rob played a fourth time. (Also to be fair; the EatThat challenges appeared to have stopped in ''China''.)
*** Some people ''were'' suspicious that there seemed to be a lack of endurance challenges, even when puzzles were put into most of the challenges, there were still mixtures of pure endurance or purely physical challenges thrown in. They even put in a puzzle for the final immunity challenge instead of the [[OnceASeason traditional endurance challenge]] for the final immunity, though ''Heroes Vs Villains'' had done something similar.

* DangerouslyGenreSavvy: This being his fourth time, it's pretty much expected. He even knows to exploit the fellow players who are [[RealityShowGenreBlindness complete]] [[WhatAnIdiot freaking]] ''[[TooDumbToLive idiots]]''.

** YMMV but perhaps inverted due to the amount of times he had to try in order to finally win.

Course, it helped that other than Phillip, everyone else on his team was more or less left on the cutting room floor...and really, were they even ''worth'' showing, given that half the tribe seemed to consist of [[LivingProp Dummies from the CSI props department]].
** you could probably compress the ''entire'' season into a 90-120 minute movie if you cut out all the Rob, Phillip, and Matt footage, or at least cut out all the random bragging and gloating to the ConfessionCam.

* JerkassHasAPoint: Prior to the first Tribal Council, he calmly asked Kristina just ''how'' she planned to gain the upper hand against Rob when his alliance was twice as big as hers. It's hinted that he anticipated Rob would split the vote (which Kristina clearly did not), which may have played a role in his tirade at Tribal Council
* ObfuscatingStupidity: This was his claim for how he got Boston Rob to take him to the final three. However, he handled Final Jury the exact same way he handled everything else up until that point so YourMileageMayVary.

* SpotlightStealingSquad: Whenever the cameras weren't turned towards Rob, they were turned towards Phillip. You could probably condense the entire season into one recap episode if you were to cut out all the Rob and Phillip confessionals or Matt on Redemption Island.
* TooDumbToLive: Why he made it to the finals.
** Not to mention his performance ''at'' the finals. [[PoorCommunicationKills Shouting down jury members and telling them "to hell with you" is not a great way to garner votes.]] Just look at Russell Hantz.

* OutOfFocus: Unless Phillip was yelling at her, got virtually no screen time until the final couple episodes.
* LivingProp: Until the end, when they were ''forced'' to show more than just Rob and Phillip. One could almost wonder if she and Ashley were relatives of [[MemeticMutation CG-I Brett]].

* TooDumbToLive: Only reason she made it was because she was one of the ''dumbest'' players ever. And after the cast of ''Samoa'', that's saying a ''lot''!

* LivingProp: At the end when we finally got to see her.

* TooDumbToLive: But not as dumb as Natalie, which is why she had to go.

* BackFromTheDead: But like Matt, it ultimately means nothing because she's voted out immediately after after being unable to do anything about the stranglehold Rob had on the game and the morons at his beck and call.

* LivingProp: Until she returned from Redemption Island.
* TooDumbToLive: Voted out, and is ''surprised'' Rob votes her out despite being close to Matt. Then actually realizes that Rob had to go when it was too late...

* TheBigGuy: To the Zapatera Alliance.

** Rob even seemed to think so, too, apologizing to the ConfessionCam when he had to vote Grant out.
* LivingProp: despite that you can actually see him doing most of the work in the immunity challenges early in the game, he's basically this trope. He probably had twice as many confessionals as Purple Kelly in ''Nicaragua''. And given that you can only count those on two fingers...
* TooDumbToLive: Did you really think Rob was going to take you to the finals? Not once did he even think that Rob had done everything for his tribe and that'd likely win him, but was again surprised he was voted out.

* OutOfFocus: Except when she blindsided Russell and stole Phillip's shorts. Then after that, Julie who?
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: She was this year's deliverer of one at the Final Jury.
* WeHardlyKnewYe: We only saw her when she blindsided Russell, stole Phillip's shorts, and then gave a TheReasonYouSuckSpeech to Natalie.

* LivingProp: Sarita ''who''?

* WeHardlyKnewYe: We only saw her when Dave was fighting with her and when she was eliminated. She didn't even get a chance to say anything at the Reunion.

* DangerouslyGenreSavvy: One of the most fitting applicants of this trope in the series - she knew if she could take Russell and Krista to the finals, she'd easily beat them in a Jury vote, since Krista was simply a good-natured hanger-on, while Russell was someone nobody would ever vote to give a million dollars. Unfortunately, the rest of her tribe had other ideas.

* [[RewardedAsATraitorDeserves Rewarded As A Member Of Russell's Alliance Deserves]]: After Russell had been taken care of, it didn't take long for the rest of the tribe to vote her and Russell's other ally, Krista, out.
* WeHardlyKnewYe: Ironically she gets more screentime than ''the second runner up'' and ''most of Rob's alliance'', and she doesn't even make the jury!

* HeelFaithTurn: On Redemption Island, she's revealed as a deeply religious person and bonds with Matt, giving him her Bible when she leaves.
* LovableAlphaBitch: Easily the nicest member of her alliance with Russell and Stephanie. Chances are if those three were in the finals, she'd have won.

* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: Tries to play the game similar to how Natalie White did. It backfires when her tribe decides she's weak and votes her out.

* BornUnlucky: Unfortunately her initial alliance is with [[TooDumbToLive Phillip]].
* FatalFlaw: Letting Rob know she had the idol, and then accidentally letting herself get duped into using it when ''Matt'' was the target. To her credit; this was a blindside.

* OutGambitted: What prevented her from being ''Dangerously'' GenreSavvy is that she never considered that Rob would try to split the vote, which was what his alliance was planning to do even before Philip revealed her plans.
* ShockingElimination: See also TooCoolToLive. Even if the idols appeared to have been hidden pre-"Russell Factor" -style (that is, in rather obvious looking landmarks and places with clues that aren't visual puzzles), it deserves mention she probably would have ''really'' beat other famous idol hunters at their own game.

* WorthyOpponent: Rob stated in the torch walk that he was glad Mike didn't win the challenge because he was legitimately afraid to have had to compete against him and sit against him in the finals.

* AffablyEvil: Charming, likeable, friendly, and seems to be a genuinely nice guy. But heaven help you if he ever decides you've become a liability.
