The Sea of Sand encompass the center of Koldenwelt's eastern continent. A vast desert, it was once ruled by giant BirdPeople known as the Sohet, who were famed for their Magitek. However, their civilization fell when they accidentally summoned the Crux into Koldenwelt, leading to the creation of the Exosubstratal. After the Crux was banished back to his home realm, other races would take the mantle of the Sohet as their own; among them, the Merovar Dynasty became the world's greatest economic superpower, while the nation of Khaepsha-ultan sought to use the Sohet's legacy to achieve dominance. At the northern region, the High Kingdom of Alhassal, the most racist province of the Empire of Man, threatens the uneasy peace of the region's predominantly BeastMan population.

!Empire of Man
!!High Kingdom of Alhassal

!!Padishah Aadideva the Eminent

->Species: Alhassan human
->Alignment: Indeterminate

-->"It would be unwise of you not to listen to the one who speaks for Pheonas and Alhassal."

A member of the Empire of Man's Table of Governors, Aadideva is the ruler and representative of the High Kingdom of Alhassal and the religion of Pheonas.

----

* TheGhost: Hasn't been featured in any stories so far.

!!Inquisitor Javina Desertsun

->Species: Alhassan human
->Alignment: LawfulNeutral

-->"Have a problem? Set it on fire."

Javina Desertsun is a member of the Malleus Ater Sect of the Inquisition, usually found traveling with Alfgund Stonesoul. A racist and violent woman, she shows visible distaste for all non-humans, unlike her much more tolerant partner.

----

* AntiHero: At her best.
* ButchLesbian: Acts tough and enjoys killing a bit too much, and is into girls.
* ButForMeItWasTuesday: Years of working with the Inquisition have numbed her when it comes to death, which makes her look particularly heartless when compared to Alfgund. He's called her out for this.
* CharacterDevelopment: Travelling with numerous adventurer parties, most which were predominantly non-human, caused her to vaguely reconsider her point of view that all non-humans are monsters. She doesn't seem to have stopped hating them, however.
* ChurchMilitant: Represents the most vile and fanatical side of the Imperial Inquisition.
* DistractedByTheSexy: Often becomes flustered when Khadya or vampiresses are close or try to jokingly flirt with her.
* FantasticRacism: She is perhaps the most openly racist human character in the entire setting. Her very steady CharacterDevelopment improves things, but not by much.
* GunNut: Notably one of the few characters in the setting to wield firearms, though she doesn't really have good aiming skills.
* HeadbuttingHeroes: She doesn't get along with anyone, including other protagonists. All the parties she was a member of detested her, and Alfgund in particular hated her, despite the fact they worked as a team most of the time.
* Hypocrite: Hates elves and non-humans and wants to kill them... but still gets aroused at the thought of non-human females.
* PlayingWithFire: Fond of setting things ablaze. She often carries a torch for that specific reason.
* ThePowerOfHate: Described as motivated almost entirely by her hatred for the alleged enemies of mankind.
* SinisterScimitar: Her main weapon is a scimitar.
* TokenEvilTeammate: During War of Vampires, while travelling with Hachi and the Sea Witch's party.

-->"The Dynasty will prosper, no matter the cost."

The current ruler of the Merovar Dynasty, Megrovaz II rose to the throne after the death of his incompetent father and spent his life fixing his mistakes, earning him the respect of his people and turning the Dynasty into the world's greatest economic power.

----

* CareerEndingInjury: Suffered a grave injury in his left leg during a fight with Volim the Greedy, forcing him to retire from the military during his early years. To this day, he limps when walking.
* CoolOldGuy: Despite his age, he remains an amiable individual, largely worried with the protection of his people from those who would threaten it.
* LizardFolk: As a Merovar, he's a humanoid lizard.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Despite his position and wealth, he's not a bad man, dedicating his life to ensuring the prosperity of the Merovar and solidifying their place in the world.

!!Earath Drakenor

->Species: Sand Drake-fied Merovar
->Alignment: NeutralGood

-->"I hope you realize calling a Merovar a snake is a pretty nice compliment."

Orphaned as a baby after his parents were attacked by Ankhor marauders, Earath would be saved and raised by Vixaatus, the elder lord of the Sand Drakes. After spending much of his life as an adventurer and hero, his deeds were rewards when he was granted the power of his draconic family, transforming him into a being beyond a mere Merovar.

----

* AchillesHeel: Like all Merovar, he isn't suited for cold temperatures. During Eschaton, he became entirely useless when the party needed to go to the cold north, which was more often than he liked.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Isn't beyond killing those who threaten him and his friends, despite his good-natured demeanor.
* BreathWeapon: As a draconic hybrid, he gained the power of breathing a jet of sand which shreds through unprotected skin and flesh.
* DraconicHumanoid: After accepting the souls of Victoreth and the other dragons captured by the Wranploer, he was transformed into a half-wyvern being.
* DrivenToSuicide: Almost, during Odyssey of the Desert, after his dragonscale armor (crafted by his family, which he considered his greatest link to them) was destroyed. Thankfully, Lyra and Kanna managed to talk him out of it.
* Expy: Inspired by the Dragonborn.
* HappilyAdopted: By Vixaatus, an ancient dragon.
* TheHero: During the unwritten, but still canon, story arc Odyssey of the Desert.
* InterspeciesAdoption: Found by Vixaatus shortly after he was orphaned, leading him to be adopted by his Sand Drakes.
* LizardFolk: As a Merovar, he was a humanoid lizard before his transformation.
* MagicKnight: Fights primarily with a greatsword, but was taught some simple healing spells by Vixaatus which he can cast on himself or his allies.
* MakeMeWannaShout: Was taught the power of force breath by Vixaatus (who in turn learned it from the Aether Drakes), which allows him to let out a blast of powerful arcane force by shouting.
* NiceGuy: One of the most unambiguously good protagonists of the setting.
* OnlySaneMan: Often comes off as this, especially during the course of Eschaton, due to the people he's stuck with being as dangerous and trigger-happy as they appear.
* RageBreakingPoint: Was driven past it during his confrontation with Kartis the Insidious in Odyssey of the Sand, after he learned the Wranploer were enslaving his people. It didn't end well for Kartis.
* TrueCompanions: With Lyra Shinerun and Kanna the Headhunter.

!!Captain Takaenrai Haennyei

A Lagosi hailing from the State of Yosae who integrated himself into the Dynasty's military, Taka became a high ranking lieutenant thanks to his impressive skill and loyalty. Over the years, he became good friends of the mercenary known as Kanna the Headhunter.

----

* HappilyMarried: Accidentally impregnated a prostitute and married her in order to give her financial support, and over time, they came to genuinely love one another.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: Was a good friend of Kanna the Headhunter.
* KilledOffscreen: Was killed during the unwritten, but still canon, story arc Odyssey of the Desert, after being captured by Ankhor forces and tortured for information.
* NamedWeapons: His katana was named Diligence.
* RighteousRabbit

!Khaepsha-ultan

!!Pharaoh Khyannarith of the Khyan Lineage

->Species: Ankhor
->Alignment: LawfulEvil

-->"The Inheritor's Legacy is a dream to be realized. ... And realized it shall be."

An egotistical and intimidating character, Khyannarith was the Pharaoh of Khaepsha-ultan up to the events of Odyssey of the Sand. Driven by ideals pertaining to the concepts of predestination and purpose, he belived himself to be the the rightful ruler of the lands of the Sea of Sand and to be blessed by either the Twelve Gods or Isiris due to his nature as a seemingly immortal presence, alongside the one to eventually fulfil the Inheritor's Legacy left by the Sohet.

----

* AGodAmI: He had delusions of godhood, believing himself to be divine.
* BigBad: Of Odyssey of the Sand.
* CatFolk: Like the rest of his race, he's a humanoid feline.
* DeathIsCheap: He had the unusual ability to resurrect after death due to an unexplained power, which he learned he had when Lagosi assassins tried to kill him. Due to it, he was eventually locked away rather than killed at the end of Odyssey of the Desert.
* TheEmperor
* Expy: Of Dio Brando.
* EnemyMine: Recruited Asemath and Volim the Greedy into his side for the purpose of furthering his agenda during Odyssey of the Sand, playing it in a way it looked like they would benefit from it.
* FatalFlaw: Pride. While powerful and intelligent, his pride and arrogance was such, he was unprepared for the events his plans failed, which caused him to panic and lose his composure due to being unable to improvise. He never considered the chance that mere mortals could threaten him, or that his "allies" were not under his complete control.
* FateWorseThanDeath: Ultimately was imprisoned in a magical sarcophagus by Man-Serpent magi, where he'll spend the rest of his existence due to being unable to die otherwise.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: Over 1,100 years old and retained his youth, while the average Ankhor doesn't last past 200.
* RedBaron: The Deathless.
* SorcerousOverlord: While more subtle than other evil lords of the setting, he was nonetheless one.

!!Khedeqed-Djetaten, the Monolith

->Species: Golem
->Alignment: TrueNeutral

-->"..."

A massive golem carved out of blue stone by the ancient Sohet, created for the purpose of fighting off the Exosubstratal. He would outlive his creators, who ordered him to slumber until he was needed again, until he was eventually discovered by the Khaepsha-ultan and awakened by Pharaoh Khyannarith; due to his links to the ancient Sohet, the golem pledged his allegiance to him.

----

* Expy: Based on Obelisk the Tormentor.
* Golem: Modeled after a Sohet, which makes him resemble a colossal birdman carved out of sapphire.
* NighInvulnerable: He's immune to conventional damage. Only the power of the Crown of Ribs, an exceptionally powerful Idkin relic, was able to strike him down, and even then the artifact itself was destroyed in the process.
* TheSpeechless: He doesn't speak, and probably doesn't even have the ability to.

One of the last true immortals of Koldenwelt, Vitzahatuth (most known as Vixaatus) is the patriarch of the non-hostile Sand Drakes of the Sea of Sand and one of the oldest dragons of the world. A son of the Old Colossus Athinyeras, he seeks to protect the world from those who would threaten it.

----

* TheAgeless: One of the last living true immortals of the world.
* BigGood: One of the main contenders of the title for the entire setting.
* CoolOldGuy: Despite his advanced age and all the tragedies he has gone through, he remains an amiable force of good.
* DishingOutDirt: The greatest user of sand magic in the world who isn't divine. All of his race holds this power, but he is the most powerful of them all.
* Expy: Of Paarthurnax.
* InterspeciesAdoption: Adopted Earath, a Merovar, when he found him orphaned by Ankhor marauders.
* MakeMeWannaShout: Was taught the power of force breath by the Aether Drakes, which allows him to let out a blast of powerful arcane force by shouting.
* RedBaron: Wrath of the Sandstorms, the Harbinger of Dawn.

!!Asemath

->Species: Sand Drake
->Alignment: ChaoticEvil

-->"The desert is my birth right, and mine alone."

The oldest living son of Vixaatus, Asemath was born at the exact same moment as Almonohuim, the Colossus of Sand, a fact seen by many as an omen. Eventually growing jealous of his father's power, he turned his back on his family and now leads a legion of draconic followers who terrorize the civilizations of the Sea of Sand.

----

* AntagonisticOffspring: Towards Vixaatus.
* BigBadWannabe: While he's a threat of his own right, others such as Khyannarith prove to be more immediate dangers to the protagonists.
* TheDragon: Literally and figuratively to Khyannarith during Odyssey of the Desert, though he followed him purely for the sake of getting rid of Vixaatus. When it became clear Khyannarith could not achieve that, he bailed out.
* FantasticRacism: He looks down on non-dragons, who he calls "pig-dogs".
* KickTheSonOfABitch: Khyannarith's last sight before he was trapped for eternity was Asemath laughing at his misfortune.
* RedBaron: The Colossus' Omen, the Harbinger of Dusk.

Formerly a philosopher and scientist known as Yhwedzanaeten, he attempted to peer beyond the material plane, and had the misfortune of peering into the combined Id and Superego of the Crux and his Vestige. His actions led to the summoning of the Idkin into Koldenwelt, and to him becoming the lord of the monstrous horde known as the Exosubstratal.

----

* TheAgeless: On virtue of being both a Sohet and the lord of the Idkin, he's a true immortal.
* BirdPeople: As a Sohet, he is one.
* BodyHorror: Being warped by primal magic corrupted his body heavily, causing an extra pair of arms to grow on his torso and making a massive crown-shaped mass of tendrils to grow over his head.
* HumanoidAbomination: He was transformed into one after becoming infused with primal magic.
* LastOfHisKind: He's the last known Sohet to exist, though he barely resembles one anymore.
* MonsterLord: Of the Exosubstratal, as the greatest mortal champion of the Crux.

* GeneralRipper: Led his people through fear and with an iron fist.
* Greed: It's in his name, so it should be evident.

* WeHardlyKnewYe: Largely existed to give Khyannarith an army, and was killed in the end of his only featured story.

!!Mad Lord Vorius the Afflicted

->Species: Wranploer
->Alignment: ChaoticEvil

-->"FLESH CONSUME ME."

Cited as being the most evil Wranploer warlord of all time, Vorius tormented the Sea of Sand in the past until he discovered the Id relic known as the Crown of Ribs, which transformed him into an Idkin. Defeated but not vanquished, he was buried deep within a forgotten tomb, in hopes that he would never be freed.

----

* ArtifactOfDoom: The Crown of Ribs, which doubles as a CoolCrown. It looked like a crown made out of demon ribs, and it transformed Vorius into a monstrous behemoth. It was destroyed during the course of Odyssey of the Desert.
* BodyHorror: Like other victims of primal magic, he was warped by it, in his case becoming a giant without any legs with massive spiked bones protruding out of his back.
