[[folder: Not Class]]
A system of the Academy that takes in students incapable of fighting Monsters and Evil Humans and trains them, either to ensure they aren’t a danger to the outside world or for them to become good enough to be promoted to the EAT curriculum. Ninety percent of the students in the DWMA make up and follow the NOT curriculum. In ''Soul Eater: Troubled Souls'', all NOT students are Zero-Stars to differentiate them from the EAT students and their ranking system. They are usually defined as freshmen, sophomores, juniors, or seniors. Sidney “Sid” Barett oversees the NOT cirrculum.

!!Tropes applying to all three of the Vanderbilts
* BlackSheep: [[spoiler: They have a half-sister imprisoned in the DWMA Supermax Penitentiary. ''God knows why'', but they’re after her.]]
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: The Vanderbilts become one of the many NOT students possessed by Shaula’s poison.
* FreudianTrio:
** Ego: Vincent. He’s TheKirk for mediating any instance of in-fighting between other two. [[{{Foil}} Must be quite a lot]].
** Superego: Autumn. She’s TheSpock for acting rationally and preferring to do things that sound worthwhile.
** Id: Damon. He’s TheMcCoy for being someone who tends to act on emotion and good will.
* HiddenAgendaVillain: They’re not villains ([[WildMassGuessing we think]]), but it’s clear they’re up to something that doesn’t have the goals of the Academy in mind.
* MadeOfIron: They got ran over by a van going at high speeds. Other than some minor dizziness, a headache, and a small flesh wound in Vincent’s case, they got right back up to help complete the mission.
* TheMole: Heavily implied. [[spoiler: Lord Death knows, and Akane and Clay are assigned to keep an eye on them]].
* NiceMeanAndInBetween
** Nice: Damon, optimistic and respectful
** Mean: Autumn, realistic and calmly aggressive
** In-Between: Vincent, who is more than willing to take action but is a nice guy overall
* PowerTrio
* SiblingTeam: Vincent is the Meister while Autumn and Damon are the Demon Weapons. That said, they’ve yet to do the meister-weapon combination and seem to function better as individuals working together.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: They apparently wear color contacts to hide these for some reason.
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: In Chapter 12, the Vanderbilts team up with [[Manga/SoulEaterNot Tsugumi, Anya, and Meme]]. This trope doesn’t apply to the Damon, Tsugumi, and Meme. It does to Vincent, Autumn, and Anya (the first two especially) who aren’t keen to the idea of doing a dog-catching mission.
* TwoGuysAndAGirl

!!Vincent Vanderbilt
17-year-old NOT student. He’s the Meister.
-----
* AlliterativeName: '''V'''incent '''V'''anderbilt.
* AWorldHalfFull: In contrast to [[WideEyedIdealist Damon]] and [[ThePessimist Autumn]], Vincent acknowledges both sides of the spectrum. He understands the world is full of conflict and many wrongs, but Vincent wants to make the world better by preserving life and attempting to right said wrongs.
* BloodKnight: He expresses the desire to experience the DWMA’s chaotic and over-the-top adventures. So, he can be considered one because this means he loves the thrill of danger and combat. Heck, he bursts out into a SlasherSmile when he finds out their targets in Chapter 12 ran him over and have to turn back.
* ChekhovsGunman: He actually appeared in Chapter 9 as the waiter serving Maka, Soul, Caius, and Claudia in Deathbucks Café before he was named.
* CheshireCatGrin: Whenever he’s not doing a SlasherSmile, he’s doing this.
* CovertPervert:
-->'''Damon''': I didn't know you wore [[PantyShot blue and white-striped panties]], Anya.\\
'''Vincent''': (''blushes faintly'') Striped?
* GeneralFailure: His inner monologue, sneer, and glare in Chapter 31 suggests he thinks Lord Death is this and dreads the day Death the Kid will take his place.
* NatureLover: Why else would he save a caterpillar trying to weave a cocoon in an importune place?
* NotInTheFace: A damn RunningGag. Vincent gives hit in the face a lot.
-->'''Vincent''': OW, MY FACE!
* PurpleEyes: His color contacts give him wisteria, a shade of purple, eyes.
* SlasherSmile: Liberally.
* UseYourHead: Not his own, but in Chapter 12, Vincent repeatedly slams the head of the getaway vehicle’s driver on the horn to warn cars ahead. It’s a wonder how the poor poacher didn’t suffer a concussion.
* YouHaveGotToBeKiddingMe: When the NOT girls tell the Vanderbilts they stopped Shaula and the Traitors, Vincent almost says this word-for-word until Damon disapprovingly throws his paddleball him to stop him.

!!Autumn Vanderbilt
17-year-old NOT student. She’s a currently unknown Demon Weapon and the sister of Damon and Vincent.
-----
* AloofAlly: Autumn’s general temperament and demeanor gives her vibes of this.
* CatchPhrase: Quite fond of saying “Pointless.”
* TheComicallySerious: She swatted a fly buzzing around with a straight face. This happened after the topic of flies being on the walls hearing their conversation was brought up. Such was her justification.
* TheCynic[=/=]ThePessimist: Autumn is a negative person. She believes the world is a factory of misery where there is always trouble and strife. As such, she has a tendency to point out the negative of things and shoot down positive ideas and actions.
* DeadpanSnarker: She is Marcellus’s only competition in this regard.
* {{Foil}}: To Damon. They’re brother and sister but represent the ends of the SlidingScaleOfIdealismVersusCynicism.
* GirlishPigtails: Nowhere near girly in personality though.
* GoodIsNotNice: While her true alignment is in contention, Autumn still remains one of the iciest characters at the DWMA. Especially to [[NiceGirl Tsugumi]] who often gets intimidated by her and needs Anya to get her to ease up.
* GreenEyes: The color contacts she wears give her these.
* HairDecorations: Black bows to keep her pigtails in place.
* HardHead: Her head got slammed into a rearview mirror, breaking the entire thing off as well as completely shattering the glass. She’s back in the game after a few seconds of rest.
* HiddenDepths: She loves children and works part-time at Mifune's daycare.
* IAmNotPretty: A child named Tabitha calls Autumn pretty and nice. Autumn completely disagrees.
* ModestyShorts: Stated that she wears these [[GenreSavvy to prevent wardrobe malfunctions with her skirt]].
* PeekABangs
* PetTheDog: Her occasional playfulness with her brothers are clues that she fundamentally isn’t a bad person.
* SillyRabbitIdealismIsForKids: Holds a scathing worldview.
-->''"This isn't a fairytale. Not all endings are happy." ''
* SpeechImpediment: When she first appeared in Chapter 12, Autumn has a line that degenerates into a lisp. It is explained that she recently got a tongue piercing, and it gets her every now and then. It’s gone in future dialogue, indicating her tongue has healed.
* StunnedSilence: She is completely floored when she learns Tsugumi, Meme, and Anya put an end to Shaula’s assault, with some assistance, incapable of saying a single word because she is that much disbelief.
* TokenEvilTeammate: Not evil (maybe), but Autumn has the least pleasant disposition, is more prone to speaking her mind, is more serious, and more apt to declarations of murderous intent.

!!Damon Vanderbilt
17-year-old NOT student. He’s a currently unknown Demon Weapon.
-----
* {{Adorkable}}: His bursts of energy and enthusiasm, as well as his pleasant demeanor, make him rather endearing.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: He’s got an interesting thought pattern.
* {{Foil}}: To Autumn. They’re brother and sister but represent the ends of the SlidingScaleOfIdealismVersusCynicism.
* FunPersonified: Damon’s a pretty lively one in every scene he’s in. Not even his moody sister or ambivert of a brother can stop him from enjoying himself and bouncing off everyone around them.
* [[GenkiGirl Genki Guy]]: One time, he’s shown skipping in an almost Nayumi-like manner.
* GullibleLemmings: Non-villainous example played for comedy. Damon was completely right in calling Spirit out on how misleading the Male Role Models club was. However, Spirit manages to sway him into staying and keeping his mouth shut by appealing to his optimistic personality.
* TheIdealist: Damon is a relentless optimist, always ready to point out the good in a situation and make the most out of something.
* InnocentBlueEyes: Subverted. This isn’t his natural eye color, thanks to navy blue color contacts, but Damon does have the innocent part down.
* LargeHam: Befitting his energetic personality.
-->'''Damon''': Yeah! We're going to make the best dog-catching team ever! We're going to do our best, and we're going to accomplish this mission! Cuz we're just that awesome! '''To Dead Air Road'''! \\
'''Damon''': (''[[MilkingTheGiantCow with grand sweeping motions of his hands]]'') 'Beware, foolish evildoers! Even the lower echelons of the DWMA can smite thee!'
* NiceGuy: Goes with being an optimist. Damon cares a great deal for the people around him, and just wants to get along with everybody. He also tends to keep his brother and sister in line when they are acting too out-of-line so that nothing out-of-hand is said or done.
* {{Squee}}: His reaction to the Tsugumi, Anya, and Meme’s announcement of Shaula’s defeat at their hands is one akin to a mentor proud of their student’s progression, albeit to an energized degree.
* WideEyedIdealist

!!The NOT! Girls
Tsugumi Harudori, Meme Tatane, and Anya Hepburn are a trio of 14-year-old girls. The latter two are Meister candidates for Tsugumi the Demon Halberd. Eventually, three develop a fighting style that revolves around the two Meisters wielding one Weapon so that they couldn’t be broken up. Tsugumi Harudori is an average girl form Japan who grows more confident. Meme Tatane is a space case with a tendency to forget even the most memorable of details, but was actually once Shaula Gorgon’s best Traitor. Anya Hepburn is high-class and somewhat snobby lady, because she is Princess Anastasia Ygnling of the royal House Ygnling.
!!!Note: Until there are enough to warrant a split, list individual and common tropes.
-----
* AlmightyJanitor: To the surprise of many, these three 14-year-old girls from the NOT curriculum held their own against Shaula of the Gorgons.
* ArchEnemy: [[SparedByTheAdaptation Because Shaula lives after her final attack]], these three make a pact to put an end to her once and for all, cementing them as this to Shaula.
* ArmorPiercingAttack: Triple Soul Resonance: Spring Bird Attack is so powerful that it can leave a giant, gaping hole in a building from front to back, almost completely disintegrating a large scorpion, and leave Shaula Gorgon on the brink of death, all while keeping Meme and Anya completely safe until the attack runs its course.
* ActionGirl: Despite being NOT students, Meme and Anya grow into this role.
* BoobsOfSteel: Meme.
* DeadpanSnarker: Anya is a downplayed example. While she has the sharpest tongue of the three girls, she nonetheless remains relatively nice to those who treat her similarly.
* LadyOfWar: Anya.
* LimitBreak: Triple Soul Resonance: Spring Bird Attack.
* LovelyAngels: Meme and Anya become this trope by the time they fight Shaula. The two use Tsugumi in virtually perfect synchronization, combining Anya’s grace with Meme’s strength. They know when and where to let the other take the lead and whose skills are better in a situation.
* PreAsskickingOneLiner:
** Anya gives one in Chapter 12.
-->'''Poacher''': Oh wow. What good is a weapon without a cutting edge?\\
'''Anya''': Plenty. (''strikes him right across the mouth'')
* SuperStrength: Meme is physically strong enough to stunt a large, summoned scorpion with her blows.
* WideEyedIdealist: Tsugumi.
-->'''Autumn''': This isn't a fairytale. Not all endings are happy. \\
'''Tsugumi''': Doesn't mean we can't make one.\\
'''Vincent''': (''[[SoProudOfYou smiles to himself]]'')

[[folder: Villains]]
!!Medusa Gorgon
!!!Note: Because of the nature of this character, '''spoilers may be unmarked.'''

''“Soon enough, you all will be stripped of something. Weakened to the point the weakest snake in my body could effortlessly kill you. Most of you have been thorns in my side for the longest. It’s time to get rid of you. I’m using you brats as an example to demoralize the Academy. Your fellow child soldiers will stop fighting, your friends and family will lash out in blind rage. It’ll be destroyed little-by-little! And I’ll have a front-row seat to the chaos.” ''

Medusa Gorgon is the middle child of the infamously legendary Gorgon Sisters whose apparent birthplace is Cobra Island. The mother of Crona, this woman is responsible for the revival of Kishin Asura. Thought to have perished during the first Baba Yaga Castle operation at the hands of Maka and her Majin Hunter, Medusa has returned to wreak havoc on the Academy while attending to her own designs.
-----
* ZeroPercentApprovalRating: Almost everyone who has ever met and spoken to this woman cannot stand her. The [[OriginalCharacter Original Characters]] quickly learn she has no redeeming qualities, the canon characters desperately want to kick her ass and end her for all eternity, and Medusa’s own sister exhibits nothing but pure contempt towards her.
* [[AloofBigBrother Aloof Big Sister]]: To Shaula. ''And that is putting it lightly!''
* AmbitionIsEvil: Her ambition to TakeOverTheWorld has made her try and kill the multiple people and aims to cause massive chaos in the long run as she tries to assimilate with Kishin Asura to control Madness itself.
* ArcVillain: Of the Cobra Island Arc.
* TheBadGuyWins: [[spoiler: Practically achieves this as of chapter 33. The crystal ball containing the cursed and sealed away concepts is sent down the waterfall where no can hope to get it back, the last vestiges of resistance within the protagonists are losing strength or have already lost, and the stage is set for her to mop the floor with the rest. Ultimately becomes a NearVillainVictory though when the piece of Shaula’s soul used to power Ouroboros is actually booby-trapped, freeing Ragnarok, the personality traits, and the powers. And when she is finally confronted by Maka and Crona, tagging out Kim and Jacqueline, it is the beginning of the end for Medusa – she dies in the ensuing fight]].
* BadPowersBadPeople: Curses that can leave people shells of their former selves and can manifest their inner darkness order to mentally and physically torture them. [[CardCarryingVillain Fitting]].
* BatmanGambit: She has one going throughout the Cobra Island as it pertains to the main group of heroes, orchestrating events so they would react in ways she expected and behave right like she wanted or needed. The aftermaths of the fight against Atlas and the first game notably hinge on Maka and her friends’ sense of duty.
* BreakTheBadass: If there is one thing Medusa successfully did that stuck, it’s ruining Tsuji’s self-confidence.
* TheChessmaster: Her plan is to destroy and ruin the DWMA, but she is very thorough in making that possible. Prior to the beginning of the story, Medusa retrieves her minions [[spoiler: and brainwashes Krysa as well as turn Atlas, a giant Kishin Egg, into a mindless slave via Reanimation Magic]] and teams up with her younger sister, Shaula. In addition, she engineers a curse named Ouroboros. When she kicks off her plan, she has Eruka plant a fake VIP mission on the mission board that requests the presence of the Academy’s strongest students (Maka and the others, of course) to weaken the military overall. Aware of Lord Death’s and Stein’s keen eyes, she also wrote down the names of random students to eliminate suspicion. A disguised Free and Mizune ships them to Cobra Island, far away from home and cut off from communication. With Ouroboros, she removes a personality or ability from each and every person as they venture deeper into the island, and they don’t realize that until she’s forced to reveal her hand. Meanwhile, Shaula’s role is to promote infighting with her poison back at Death City, but when she fails, Medusa isn’t even fazed. She keeps things on Cobra Island going without a hitch and simply plots to take care of the rest when she’s done. [[spoiler: As Chapter 33 shows, her master plan worked.]]
* ChronicBackstabbingDisorder: She treats betraying both her older and younger sister with casual indifference, like it is something she wanted to scratch off her to-do list for life.
* ClassicVillain: Representing Ambition, using deception and cunning to move her plans along.
* ControlFreak: She is noticeably frustrated and fidgety during the maze level. She expected Maka and everyone else to struggle hopelessly as they encounter death trap after death trap while being on the clock. What instead happens is they put their heads together and rally through the maze with ease. When the game inevitably goes awry, Medusa is ''ecstatic'' that she is back in control. Furthermore, there is the haughty and superior attitude she displays toward Shaula. Finally, Crona’s shadow, who is pretty much Medusa’s mouthpiece, tells Crona how he/she is nothing without her. All in all, Medusa can’t stand not being in control of people she deems lesser.
* DangerouslyGenreSavvy: She is well aware of the DWMA’s inner workings and uses the holes in the system to her advantage in an effort to eliminate some of her most poignant obstacles to her ambitions.
* DarknessEqualsDeath: The snake monolith she resides in [[EvilIsNotWellLit lacks normal lighting]]. When Kid and the remaining combatants confront her in the climax of the StoryArc, she is waiting for them in a dim room.
* DidntSeeThatComing: Kim lasts much longer than Medusa anticipated and even injures her in the process. [[spoiler: Crona bringing her to justice is also another fatal miscalculation on her part.]]
* EquippableAlly: The Portable Purple Clown. She conducts Madness Fusion with it to power up her snake familiars, granting them enough strength to overpower the Khmer Dragon.
* EyeScream: Kim burns one of her eyes shut as part of her final gambit.
* FamousLastWords: “I miscalculated.”
* HateSink: While Maka and the rest of the canon characters already despise her, with plenty of reasons to do so, it’s her wanton cruelty and sadism that quickly earns her the ire of the original characters, individuals who didn’t even know she existed until recently. Medusa treats them, otherwise innocent people, with the same callousness as she does her archenemies.
* IControlMyMinionsThrough: She pretty easily rounds up her minions again despite the passage of time – Eruka through Fear via the [[FridgeHorror apparently dead]] snakes in her body, Mizune through Revenge thanks to Eruka lying, Free is presumably through Kindness like in canon, and [[spoiler: Krysa by MindControl, and Atlas by Remote Control]].
* ILied: Each of the four games have their own set of rules and such. Later on, Medusa flat-out tells the protagonists to their faces that she controls the rule and can change them as she pleases. Obviously, all alterations are meant to inconvenience them as cruelly as possible.
* IShallTauntYou: Constantly. Especially in her confrontation with Kim. She cannot comprehend why Kim of all the available fighters thinks she has a chance and voices her opinion without rest.
* JokerImmunity: Seriously, she survives expulsion from Rachel’s body via Majin Hunter by using the same spell she used to live in her battle against Stein and Spirit. This woman ''refuses'' to stay dead. [[spoiler: It wears off when Crona conclusively kills her in Chapter 34.]]
* KarmicDeath: Karma certainly enjoyed getting back at Medusa when it was time for judgment. [[spoiler: For starters, her killer is not Maka, but rather ''Crona''. The same Crona she deliberately engineered to be a killer and manipulated since childhood. As a bonus, before she gets hacked up, Crona temporarily slips into the AxCrazy persona he/she had when they still worked together. Not only that, the reason everyone gets their powers and stuff back is because Medusa tried to backstab Shaula, turning her malice full circle. Lastly, her gambit on Cobra Island was to kill everyone once they were weakened. By the time she fights Crona, Medusa has lost one eye, received severe burns, and is not exactly at full strength.]]
* KickTheDog: ''Constantly''.
* KickThemWhileTheyAreDown: Her strategy is to weaken Maka and company with Ouroboros and, if the games don’t ruin them, she will gladly take that honor.
* KickTheSonOfABitch: She gets this treatment from Crona in Chapter 33. [[AssholeVictim Payback’s a bitch, eh?]]
* [[spoiler: KilledOffForReal: WordOfGod even stresses there is no way Medusa is coming back.]]
* KillThePoor: If her claims are true, the body she now inhabits formerly belonged to “some nobody from the slums that no cared about.”
* KnightOfCerebus: Medusa singlehandedly plummets this story into DarkerAndEdgier territory by putting the main cast in mortal danger and making their limitations painfully obvious.
* LackOfEmpathy: A raving sadist, her undoing stems from her inability to treat others as more than tools.
* LetsGetDangerous: Taunting and face-distorting Slasher Smiles are her forte. So when she stops doing either of them, you really have let the monster out. [[PluckyGirl Kim’s]] persistence pushes her buttons one too many times. This extends to her final fight with Crona; she still barely does either.
* MeaninglessVillainVictory: [[spoiler: Thanks to Tadpole Jackson, she successfully disposes of the crystal ball Tsuji and Caius were tasked to retrieve to give the heroes a fighting chance. In addition, Kim is on the verge of collapse and defeat herself as Free occupies a tiring Kid. For all intents and purposes, she’s won…. then Shaula’s own gambit activates, breaking the curse within the crystal ball despite it being lost. In the end, nobody except her dies.]]
* {{Necromancer}}: [[spoiler: Between her last defeat and now, Medusa learned a forbidden magic spell called Reanimation Magic. It allows one to resurrect a dead or half-dead being, customize it to your liking, and acquire yourself a minion. The trade-off is that said minion loses all of its free will and is stuck in an eternal limbo between life and death. Medusa uses this spell on Atlas as a RedHerring, even giving it back its soul to make sure it is still registered as living to the others.]]
* NeverMyFault:
** In the climactic battle with her, Medusa is irritated to know Eruka and the Mizunes failed her, almost appearing insulted that she gave them "something to do other than waste away their lives" only to fail. Right, Medusa. Their lives were perfectly fine up until you injected snakes to Eruka's body, killed the oldest Mizune sister, and then forced Eruka to lie to get the others behind your cause.
** Similarly, she is livid once she figures out Shaula had a hand in her plans falling apart, acting as if it's the Academy's fault for her younger sister throwing what Medusa perceives to be a temper tantrum. In reality, it's karma coming back full circle because Medusa planned to backstab Shaula ''anyway''.
* NiceJobFixingItVillain:
** She used BREW as the means to forge trust between herself and Lord Death for the attack on Arachne’s organization. The same BREW connects one of Kid’s Lines of Sanzu in the fourth game, ultimately giving him a boost in power. She lampshades the whole situation to herself.
** After Shaula’s catastrophic failure, Medusa tries to take Shaula’s soul to help with Ouroboros but only receives what is assumed to be a small piece of it. She chooses to use it anyway even if it meant losing Atlas’s soul in the process. [[spoiler: It sabotages Ourobros and frees all of the trapped concepts, meaning Medusa’s own malice is the reason why she ultimately loses.]]
* OutGambitted: [[spoiler: Shaula’s not so much of a little sister now, right Medusa?]]
* [[PsychopathicManchild Psychopathic Womanchild]]: A minor example. Medusa seems rather invested in the “games” she forces the protagonists to play, the most [[{{Troll}} childish]] one being a really difficult puzzle. At one point, she even pouts, however mocking it may be.
* RedRightHand: One of her arms and the snake familiar associated with it gets badly burnt during her fight with Kim.
* {{Revenge}}: Pretty much the whole reason she bothered to team up with Shaula and devise her elaborate plan is to demoralize the Academy and then ultimately make it submit to her. Crona’s shadow suggests she intends to move on with an overarching plan, however, once everything is done.
* {{Sadist}}: Her games are meant to punish Maka and the others, and she sets everything up so they can only do the absolute minimum about it. All the while, she sits back and revels in the chaos.
* ThisIsADrill: Vector Drill.
* {{Troll}}: One of her games is a ''puzzle'' for crying out loud! Right after the gang completes a maze full of death traps.
* ShutUpKirk: Takes pleasure in shooting down everyone who dares to badmouth her.
--> <Chapter 27> \\
'''Tsuji''': I guess you ain’t got the guts to face us yourself, so you made some elaborate plan or whatever. Well, congrats, Medusa! You’re both a snake ''and'' a coward! \\
'''Medusa''': You’re in no position to be giving me lip, Ricardsen. [[WhamLine Especially when I have stripped you of your precious aim.]] \\
<Chapter 28> \\
'''Shaula''': (''finishes her hate-filled speech'') \\
'''Medusa''': Foolish little sister, wasting your final words damning me. \\
<Chapter 33> \\
'''Kim''': Both the Witch Council and Lord Death pronounced it as outlawed magic! Even the Warlock who created it got executed once the full details were made public! \\

!![[spoiler: Curse of the Enchanted Eyes]]
!!!'''Note''': ''Unmarked spoilers for part of the Chicago Gang Arc up ahead! Read at your own risk!''

The mystical force behind the Enchanted Eyes. The "curse" is a collective consciousness formed by the combination of many fallen, formerly human souls who seek retribution against the original creator of the Enchanted Eyes, Voice. Full of anger and hatred, they tempt users of the Enchanted Eyes and formulate situations, psychological or otherwise, that should lead to their doom.
----
* TheAssimilator: Upon leading a person with the Enchanted Eyes to their demise, they [[YourSoulIsMine claim his or her soul]] and make it apart of them.
* TheBadGuyWins: Voice makes it known that the curse has claimed lives before, sometimes one and other times more than one. It is an ongoing war between them, and the curse does win occasionally.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: We, and Tsuji, are led to believe the voices he initially hears within his head are benevolent, trying to put him on the proper path. We also learn just as quickly the curse is doing the exact opposite.
* TheCorrupter: They play upon the negativity in one's mind and engineer scenarios to make owners of the Enchanted Eyes crazier, more reckless, and more menacing. In Tsuji's particular case, they make him believe he is doing the right thing by listening to them, something Noel recommended he do in the first place.
* DemonOfHumanOrigin: This monstrous force used to be a number of separate human beings.
* DrivenByEnvy: One of their motivations. The Enchanted Eyes Curse came into existence because they were appalled that Voice suddenly decided to help humanity whereas they were left to a hopeless fate totally out of their control. So they decided to continue Voice's former mission and torment future keepers of the Eyes because they shouldn't be allowed a freebie.
* DrivenToMadness: The ultimate fate of their original human selves thanks to the Enchanted Eyes being a [[{{Understatement}} bad]] power back in the day.
* EldritchAbomination: A perfectly traditional example. The Curse of the Enchanted Eyes is a collection of many minds and consciousnesses united under a single purpose. Befitting something akin to a force of nature, they are never seen in person and have no known place of residence. ** If that wasn't enough, they immediately tell Marcellus he had a hand in it. Rather uncalled for, especially once we learn the whole history about the curse.
* MindHive: As they were once individual humans beings, the curse originally were multiple people with distinct personalities. Now, they are a collective consciousness working in unison toward a singular goal.
* TheNameless: "The Curse of the Enchanted Eyes" is their official name as provided in a glossary about the Enchanted Eyes.

For this reason, Tsuji deems them a bunch of {{jerkass}}es going unnecessary lengths to get revenge and decides to help Voice stop them.

* FamousLastWords: “I miscalculated.”
* KickTheDog: ''Constantly''.
* NeverMyFault:
* NiceJobFixingItVillain:
* ThisIsADrill: Vector Drill.
* {{Troll}}: One of her games is a ''puzzle'' for crying out loud! Right after the gang completes a maze full of death traps.
* ShutUpKirk: Takes pleasure in shooting down everyone who dares to badmouth her.

** Mean: Autumn, realistic and calmly aggressive
** In-Between: Vincent, who is more than willing to take action but is a nice guy overall
* PowerTrio
* TwoGuysAndAGirl

!!Vincent Vanderbilt
17-year-old NOT student. He’s the Meister.
-----
* AlliterativeName: '''V'''incent '''V'''anderbilt.
* CovertPervert:
-->'''Damon''': I didn't know you wore [[PantyShot blue and white-striped panties]], Anya.\\
-->'''Vincent''': OW, MY FACE!
* PurpleEyes: His color contacts give him wisteria, a shade of purple, eyes.
* SlasherSmile: Liberally.

* ModestyShorts: Stated that she wears these [[GenreSavvy to prevent wardrobe malfunctions with her skirt]].
* PeekABangs

* WideEyedIdealist

!!The NOT!
* BoobsOfSteel: Meme.
* DeadpanSnarker: Anya is a downplayed example. While she has the sharpest tongue of the three girls, she nonetheless remains relatively nice to those who treat her similarly.
* LadyOfWar: Anya.
* PreAsskickingOneLiner:
** Anya gives one in Chapter 12.
-->'''Poacher''': Oh wow. What good is a weapon without a cutting edge?\\
'''Anya''': Plenty. (''strikes him right across the mouth'')
* SuperStrength: Meme is physically strong enough to stunt a large, summoned scorpion with her blows.
* WideEyedIdealist: Tsugumi.
-->'''Autumn''': This isn't a fairytale. Not all endings are happy. \\
'''Tsugumi''': Doesn't mean we can't make one.\\
'''Vincent''': (''[[SoProudOfYou smiles to himself]]'')

The curse is capable of directly affecting certain humans while they are mostly powerless to oppose them.
* HiddenVillain: Generally speaking, eyes have nothing to do with malevolent entities. Yet, here we are.
* IAmLegion: The plural sense is the most appropriate way to refer to them.
* TheNameless: "The Curse of the Enchanted Eyes" is their official name as provided in a glossary about the Enchanted Eyes.
* NothingIsScarier: All this information is learned through dialogue and their actions. We never see their faces or learn where they reside. Other than the stuff you're reading now, everyone else is a blank left to be filled.
* OutsideContextVillain: The Curse of the Enchanted Eyes are an unknown existence to everyone not named Voice, Tsuji, or Marcellus. They are responsible for the many atrocities and trouble associated the Eyes themselves once Voice retired from the role in the distant past. And nobody believed a "{{curse}}" was even apart of the Enchanted Eyes to begin with, despite intel.
* PowerOfHate: They started off as human beings like the rest. They resented their fate imposed upon them by [[RetiredMonster Voice]] so much, that when it sought atonement, banded together, become an EldritchAbomination, gained otherworldly powers and influence and continued exiting on nothing but ''pure hatred''.
* RealityWarper: One of two explanations for how they can affect the real world and certain people, and the more viable option. For starters, the curse turns one of Marcellus's into a lollipop into a means of siphoning Tsuji's blood.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: The other motivation. They aren't going to let Voice forget its sins.
* VillainOfAnotherStory: ''Easily'' could fit into a CosmicHorrorStory, and Tsuji, Noel, and Shannon are only three of the many people they have tried to kill.
* WalkingSpoiler: There is no point in even using spoiler tags; its existence is one.
* WasOnceAMan: Actually, they were once an indeterminate number of ''men''.
* AWizardDidIt: The other explanation. How else could they make Tsuji suffer blood loss and make him vomit blood?

* AfraidOfNeedles: Not herself. She possibly invokes it in that she uses Needle Magic as part of her magic arsenal.
* AnimalMotifs: Crabs.
* AntiquatedLinguistics: Doesn’t use contractions and has quite the healthy vocabulary to boot.
* BarbarianLonghair: In ''Soul Eater: Saeculum'' (or during the Vladingham massacre specifically).
* BewareTheQuietOnes: She is generally quiet and reserved, but this woman is the main antagonist dealing with great dangers in hopes of achieving her lofty ambitions. Don’t mess with her.
* BigBad: Of ''FanFic/SoulEaterTroubledSouls''.
* BloodbathVillainOrigin: The Vladingham massacre is what put Cancer on the Academy’s radar.
* BrokenBird: Subverted. She is the survivor of a surprise attack on her homeland, losing her mother in the process and gets separated from her older sister as well. Said homeland is forever locked off. She speaks of past companions in the past tense, meaning they are likely dead and gone. Yet, her stoic personality has been present since her family was still together. [[AllThereInTheManual Her profile]] only serves to underscore her tragic past never really broke but simply allowed her beliefs to fall into place.
* DangerouslyGenreSavvy: She needs some guinea pigs to test out a prototype of Project Omega and elects to use Academy students. So, she goes to Venice, Italy and forces Gestas, a generic Evil Human, to be the bait, masking the real threats. When the eventuality of Gestas’s death comes, Cancer goes to make her move, but then she notices the students in question are Maka Albarn, owner of the [[DemonSlaying Anti-Demon Wavelength]], and Caius, the Vladingham she wanted dead but was forced to spare due to time constraints. She instead opts to clandestinely go straight for the kill by trying to skewer them with needles, also deciding to simply sic Project Omega on their Demon Weapons. If it weren’t for Soul, who just happened to be facing the right direction to see the attack coming, this tactic would have worked. Then, in the confrontation with Project Omega, Maka admits they are outmatched and suggests fleeing. Cancer reappears and informs them she will have Project Omega eradicate Venice should they run away, forever tarnishing their reputation as forces of the DWMA. Only because of [[ChekhovsClassroom Joint Resonance]] is this crisis averted. [[EstablishingCharacterMoment This is her debut.]]
* DarkActionGirl
* TheChessmaster: Only the first part of the massacre has been publicized, but there’s already enough information to brand her as this. To wit, she has Henderson and the Darkling (whatever those are) in a position to cut off help from the DWMA Rozniak base, she has several currently unknown creatures in hiding for a later ambush, she knows the entire geography of Rozniak, is aware of common skillsets of Vladinghams, ''and'' enlisted the help of ''Project Omega's Primordial Form''. Those 21 years of preparation are showing, and the first death hasn’t even happened yet!
** There’s also another but subtle example. Cancer attacks during the Gathering Day. Let that sink in… Don’t get it? Every Vladingham has gathered on this one day that they consider their personal holiday. She knew they would all be at the village, and that it’s the perfect stage to get them all in one fell swoop. We can reasonably assume Cancer found this out sometime during preparations, but she nonetheless has them trapped like rats, and they don’t even know it.
* ChekhovsGunman: She first appeared (name only, no physical details) in a small flashback at the end of the prologue. She was properly introduced chapters later.
* ConspicuousGloves: A variation. The scarves around her left arm. She lost said arm long ago. [[SarcasmMode Yeah, we’re pretty sure she isn’t hiding something beneath them.]] Even more suspicious is that, in ''Saeculum'', there’s nothing there period.
* ContraltoOfDanger: Cancer has a deep, womanly voice befitting her role.
* EmotionlessGirl: Cold and unfeeling, she rarely if ever smiles, has a completely toneless voice, and acts like she's made of stone. There are subtle changes to her demeanor when she is irritated, but she predominantly acts soulless.
* FashionableAsymmetry: Her whole left arm is covered in lavender scarves for some reason, meaning she’s doing things with only one arm.
* GlowingEyesOfDoom: Her eyes will occasionally gleam or outright shine during periods of intimidation.
* GreenEyes: Emerald green.
* InTheHood: When in public, Cancer typically wears a hooded cloak or something similar to hide her face.
* MakingASplash: She knows and practices Water Magic.
* KnightOfCerebus: Cancer Lucrenian's first appearance during the Introduction Arc finally give us something to look forward to in terms of conflict. It also gives a preview of her caliber as a villain. You certainly qualify when one of your first actions is ''[[DangerouslyGenreSavvy trying to preemptively kill main characters]]''.
* LackOfEmpathy: The wellbeing of people not herself or allied with her are of very little concern to her. She all but threatens Young Thief Gestas to give up his life to help her out, promises to have Venice razed to the ground if demands aren’t met, kills three gangsters in Chapter 19 with little provocation, and her breaking of the pact to Soriano shows she is not above of crossing her own allies if it means the furtherance of her goals. But perhaps the coup de grace is her behavior in the Vladingham Family Massacre as narrated in entries of ''Saeculum''. Cancer shows mild excitement, even '''[[OOCIsSeriousBusiness smiling]]''' at the prospect of slaughtering Vladinghams. One of the few times she emotes, and it involves disconcerting disregard for human life.
* LeaveNoSurvivors: Wanted ''no'' Vladingham to survive the massacre. Presumably, just when she was about to kill Caius, she unfortunately ran out of time because the DWMA had arrived.
* LonersAreFreaks: Although Neptune loves Cancer as family, she did notice a few strange things about her. Cancer was always quiet, to herself, immersed in her studies, and definitely had the scowl she has now. In hindsight, she discovers how similar she is now to then and wonders if anything really changed about her in their time apart. 223 years since the Lucrenian Clan Incident and most of the time was spent by herself.
* {{Mangst}}: Ladies and gentlemen, we have a rare female version done right. She only talks about her motives when a trusted ally asks so (like Soriano and Kujira/Neptune), she only looks forward in trying to complete Project Omega, and she doesn’t mull over her implied dark past. She’s as tough as male mangsters. She even has a picture of her two closest Lucrenians, her mother Galene and sister Neptune that she’ll occasionally look at in her sanctuary.
* MeaningfulName: Doubly so.
** The name “Cancer” comes from one of the twelve constellations of the zodiac, which is typically represented as a crab, which happens to be her animal motif.
** “Cancer” is, of course, the name of a disease characterized by abnormal cell growth and is one of the deadliest illnesses known to mankind. That last part is eerily fitting as she’s the [[NoNonsenseNemesis No-Nonsense]] BigBad with a LackOfEmpathy.
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: Would you stay in the same room as someone nicknamed '''''Massacre Queen'''''?
* NervesOfSteel: Cancer is completely unflappable. The prospect of killing a BadassFamily is enjoyable to her, being held at gunpoint by many gangsters doesn’t stop her from snarking, and she quickly returns to her [[EmotionlessGirl usual demeanor]] if something does get to her.
* NoNonsenseNemesis: Humorless, pragmatic, competent, and focused.
* OmnidisciplinaryScientist: Her specialties are mechanics, architecture, and engineering, but Cancer also had to teach herself genetics, physiology, Phasmology, and a rudimentary form of biology so she could keep going with. Of course, she’s nowhere near as proficient or knowledgeable as she is with her specialties. Kujira even offers to take the biological stuff off of her hands.
* PersonalityPowers: Water is the element of change and mutability. Calm and placid in one moment, harsh and brutal the next. Describes Cancer, the quiet and stoic villain who wants to change the world, quite nicely, don’t you think?
* TheQuietOne: Generally, she won’t talk unless you talk to her first.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: [[AllThereInTheManual According to her profile,]] Cancer is chronologically 300-year-olds but physically resembles a 21-year-old woman.
* ASinisterClue: She’s left-handed. Well, was. According to her, she lost her left arm long ago.
* SinisterSurveillance[=/=]SurveillanceAsThePlotDemands: She has Surveillance Crabs to help her monitor activity revolving her goals and relay any commands to those on the other line.
* SocialDarwinist: A variation. She believes only the strong can pursue vengeance. If you’re not strong enough or are too weak, you’re fooling yourself.
* TheSociopath: Shows some traits of one, such as her lack of empathy and remorse. After an argument, Kujira suspects her younger sister wasn’t simply an aloof loner but rather was born evil.
* TheStoic: Cancer is pretty much in a perpetual state of stoic indifference, from her times as teenager to the present as an adult.
* SummonMagic: She knows Summoning Magic and sometimes uses water as the medium to do so.
** TeleportersAndTransporters: An application. She’ll transport herself and others, non-lethally, to different places using her water-Summoning Magic.
* TrainingFromHell: Says she subjected herself to this in preparation for the Vladingham massacre.
* UncannyFamilyResemblance: According to narration in Chapter 19, Cancer inherited her looks from her mother, Galene, such as hair and eye color.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: [[DownplayedTrope Downplayed]]. Kujira remarks on Cancer being pretty mellow in her youth, but many things about her still remain the same. See LonersAreFreaks.
* WalkOnWater: Cancer is introduced into the story doing this.
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: Silver, but close enough.
* WomanInBlack: Her main outfit is mostly black, but it’s got some white and blue.
* [[TheManBehindTheMonsters The Woman Behind the Monsters]]: Cancer is the creator of the Anria, the newest threat to the forces of order.
* WomanInWhite: She wears a silver and white outfit during the Vladingham Family Massacre. Considering who this is, LightIsNotGood is in full effect.
* WrenchWench: Her lab contains many mechanical equipment and machinery. This is in fact because she is skilled in mechanics, building, and engineering.

!!Henderson
Henderson is the Cancer’s assistant and most trusted ally who has apparently been in cahoots with her since 23 years ago, presumably in ''Soul Eater Zeta''. He is a very strange organism, combining the characteristics of both a man and a crab monster.

-----

* WordHadTheFlu: Medusa isn't at full strength by the time she fights Crona, having had expended some of her magic power and suffered a few injuries including one to the eye. It's excusable because it contributes to her KarmicDeath.
