* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She may be selfish and greedy at times, but she cares about Topaz, Shadow and the others.

* NominalHero: She only does heroic work for money or emeralds in return. She worked with Topaz and GUN to avoid any previous charges of theft while she is on Earth, [[spoiler: as well as keep a diamond she stole beforehand]].

* MinionWithAnFInEvil: Gamma is a robot, so most of his "evil" actions owe to following Eggman's orders. As he gains emotions, he becomes increasingly empathetic [[spoiler: and ultimately turns sides]].

** Sonic's usual cocky attitude he's well known for in the [[VideoGame/SonicAdventure Dreamcast]] [[VideoGame/SonicAdventure2 games]] is more noticeably downplayed in the anime (At least in Series 1). Subverted for the comics and Series 2 where he gains back that cocky attitude.

* VocalEvolution: Throughout Season 1 and the Chaos Saga, [[Creator/JasonGriffith Jason Griffith's]] perfomance as Sonic sounds more like an attempt to stay closer to Ryan Drummond's Sonic. During the Shadow saga and onwards, this performance is gradually phased out in favor of a more unique, slightly deeper sounding voice. Come Season 3, his perfomance sounds much closer to what he would apply when replacing Ryan as Sonic starting from VideoGame/ShadowTheHedgehog.

* AdaptationalJerkass: Amy is much more aggressive and obsessed with Sonic here than she was in ''Adventure'' games. It seems that writers of ''VideoGame/SonicBattle'' were taking notes.

* AdaptationalWimp: In the ''[[VideoGame/SonicAdvance2 Advance Trilogy]]'' and ''VideoGame/SonicHeroes'', Cream and Cheese were perfectly capable of racing through the same levels Sonic and co could, and actually had the easiest time defeating Eggman's machines thanks to Cheese's invincibility. Here, not only are portrayed as nothing but a harmless - even petulant - little child, they're much less capable and are generally portrayed {{Non Action Guy}}s. By season 3 however, the anime has her using Cheese to attack the Metarex, [[SubvertedTrope being faithful to her game counterpart]].

* CanonForeigner: Decoe and Becoe have no game counterparts, and were roughly based on [[WesternAnimation/AdventuresOfSonicTheHedgehog Scratch and Grounder]] in terms of giving Eggman robotic minions. Eggman would receive a duo of minions in [[VideoGame/SonicColors Orbot and Cubot]] years after ''Sonic X'' ended, but they are not like Decoe and Becoe.

* CanonForeigner: Bokkun has no counterpart in the videogames, and seems to be [[WesternAnimation/AdventuresOfSonicTheHedgehog based on Coconuts role]] as the third robotic minion.

* TheAce: Leans more as this as the show progresses, especially due to his more one note role and the majority of the cast's idolization of him.

* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: A lot of characters convey an animosity towards him because of his bravado and popularity. Eggman, Knuckles, Sam Speed, and Vector in particular have recurring jealous rivalries towards him.

* HundredPercentHeroismRating: Once the public find out about him, Sonic becomes a huge celebrity, admired and trusted by all.

* AdaptationalWimp: In this series, he usually requires a ring to defeat the MonsterOfTheWeek. He even needed one to defeat Shadow during their fight on the ARK, unlike Sonic’s game counterpart.

* AnOddPlaceToSleep: Has a tendency to sleep on rooftops, balcony guards, the wing of the X-Tornado and even on top of a castle battlement in one instance.

* DemotedToExtra: Despite the show acknowledging he's the main protagonist, a lot more episodes are played from Chris or another hero's perspective, with Sonic acting more as something of a friendly AloofAlly who only steps up when the MonsterOfTheWeek appears. The comics play him more as the main focus, though he later leans as a HeroAntagonist due to Eggman's [[BreakoutCharacter expanded role]].

* {{Flanderization}}: While Sonic in the games is a bit of a powerhouse, he still has struggles. Here, he plays the role of an InvincibleHero who constantly plows through his enemies. [[SubvertedTrope Subverted]] in Season 3 where he starts to face more struggles.

* TheHero: He's the main hero of the series as per usual.

* SignatureMove: Spin Attack.

* SuperpoweredEvilSide: Dark Super Sonic. Although it didn't make him evil, just more aggressive.

** Outside of missions, Sonic notably spends very little time with his friends from his world, usually perferring to sleep or run by himself. In some episodes (such as 5 and 9), he outright refuses offers to join his friends on their trips, only getting involved after Eggman attacks them.
** Despite Chris' friendship with Sonic being the driving force for the former's character, the two don't spend much of their freetime together, with Chris usually hanging out with Tails, Amy, and Cream instead.

* AdorablyPrecociousChild: He's very smart and mature.
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: He used to be bullied for liking science.

* PuppyLove: With Cosmo, in Season 3.

* StarCrossedLovers: With Cosmo.

* DependingOnTheWriter: In some episodes she's a kind girl who is a bit short-tempered but not terribly so, while in others she's far more hot-headed. Comparing some original episodes to the adaptations, it's hard to think Amy would treat [[RobotBuddy Gamma]] as anything more than upcoming scrap metal. In Season Three however, she's more often comic relief, so her rude and overaggressive qualities start to take over her personality more.

* DropTheHammer: The Piko-Piko Hammer is her weapon of choice..

* HairTriggerTemper: Moreso as time went on and her {{Tsundere}} traits were [[{{Flanderization}} Flanderized]].

* IntergenerationalFriendship: With Ella.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: When she's not having a hot temper, behaving brattiness, and gushing over Sonic, Amy can be friendly. She can be comforting towards Cream and cares deeply for Lily and Gamma.

* LightFeminineAndDarkFeminine: The Light Feminine to Rouge's Dark Feminine.

* MoodSwinger To an ''[[AdaptationalJerkass extraordinary extent]]'' in this adaptation. While she's usually a nice girl, she often switches to being incredibly ill-tempered and threatens physical harm on anyone for rather minuscule reasons. It eventually gets to a point where she switches from Type B of the typical {{Tsundere}} to leaning far closer to Type A.
* NeverBareHeaded: She never takes off her headband.
* PinkGirlBlueBoy: With Sonic, both literally and figuratively.

* SmittenTeenageGirl: Almost. She's twelve, but she’s got the act down pat.

* SupremeChef: Learns from Ella.

* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: The Tomboy to Cream, Helen, and Ella's [[GirlyGirl Girly girl's]]
* {{Tsundere}}: Type B in the first seasons, but a Type A in Season 3.

* {{Yandere}}: Leans towards being one to Sonic.

* MakeMeWannaShout: In issue #36, she lets out a powerful sonic scream to protect a judge and her kitten from a pack of wild dogs. Unfortunately, [[PutOnABus Cream hasn't used this ability since this issue came out,]] which is a shame, considering some fans were probably wanting more of that power from Cream.

* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: The Girly Girl to Amy's Tomboy.

* {{Determinator}}: He's determined to protect the Master Emerald as long as he lives. He's also extremely persistent when fighting his opponents, getting up no matter how much pain he takes.

* DependingOnTheWriter: Knuckles is portrayed as a one of the more serious characters in most episodes, while other episodes make him the ButtMonkey of the show.

* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Leek buns.

* AdaptationalEarlyAppearance: Has a cameo appearance in Episode 1 and is introduced properly in Episode 11, long before the ''Sonic Adventure 2'' arc.

* BelligerentSexualTension: With Knuckles. The two are rivals like in the games. However, their love interest in each other is more emphasized as the two have a few romantic conversations with each other which hinted their love in a few episodes.

* HeroicRRoD: At the end of her TournamentArc fight with Knuckles, Rouge emerges from the tent battered, bruised, and seemingly victorious, only to collapse the moment she steps backstage. Knuckles, who's revealed to be just barely standing, goes through instead.

* LightFeminineAndDarkFeminine: The Dark Feminine to Amy's Light Feminine.
* LoveableRogue: She's a government agent, but she's still a thief, too. Better yet, the title works even if you misspell it!

* WouldntHurtAChild: [[DownplayedTrope Downplayed]]She has no qualms fighting Tails in the TournamentArc but opts to defeat him via a RingOut after [[PostKissCatatonia stunning him with a kiss]] rather than knocking him out.

* AntiHero: Vector is jealous, impulsive, and very greedy, although he's generally good-natured despite that.

* BadassDecay: [[ZigZaggingTrope Zig-Zagges]] depending on the episode/arc in Seasons 1 & 2/Series 1. For his first evil plan he levels almost all of Station Square, but afterwards, he kinda becomes more of a joke. He still does have his menacing and threatening moments like the two-parters for the end of the New World and Chaos Emerald Sagas and when they adapted the Adventure Games, but he's more played for comedy and has a lot more [[AdaptationalDumbass moments that make him come off as incompetent]] (like him taking Sonic's bait to lure him out of Station Square and out to sea despite Bocoe and Decoe, his ''own robots'' asking him not to do that in Episode 15)
** Exaggerated in Season 3/Series 2, as with the Meterax taking his antagonist role, he largely got demoted to comic relief.

* EvilIsPetty: He'd do anything to get on Sonic's nerves, not that he's always very successful with it.

* VillainousFriendship: Sort of with, Bokkun, Decoe, and Bocoe. He treats them like dirt, but he does care about them, and they seem to be the closest thing he has to friends. They're also nice to him, even after he mistreated them. Then again, his treatment of them is mostly PlayedForLaughs, as well as it's apart of his "evil" facade, and he actually takes care of them to an extent.

* GenderBender / ShesAManInJapan: For unknown reasons, Gamma was referred to as female in the Dutch dub, to the extent that Amy solely referred to Gamma as 'Miss Robot'. The gender change may be a nod to Gamma's pink flicky (which is also referred to as Lily's sister in the English dub).

* HeroesWantRedheads: Rouge has a crush on him. Despite it being unknown whether he truly likes her or not, he does have his moments where he is caring for her.

* CharacterExaggeration: The show takes Sonic's SuperDrowningSkills and turns them into full-blown hydrophobia, to the extent that landing in a simple ''puddle'' of water in "Cracking Knuckles" triggers a [[FreakOut panic attack]] until he realizes it's [[StopDrowningAndStandUp barely half a foot deep]].

* DubNameChange: Averted, he is one of the few Sonic characters from his world to retain his original name in the Latin American dub. Big does say his name means "grande" there. Froggy retains his name as well.

* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: Big doesn't appear after his original role in the ''VideoGame/SonicAdventure'' adaptation. He does briefly appear in the ''Sonic Battle'' adaptation fighting Ella, but this scene is cut in the Creator/FourKidsEntertainment version.

* TheComplainerIsAlwaysWrong: Downplayed. He tends to be the ButtMonkey due to objecting with Sonic and the others. A RunningGag is made out of the others goading or mocking Knuckles into following things through. This is never called out, even occasions he turned out to be ''right''. However, sometimes, he's actually the voice of reason, like in Episode 10, where he explained the consequences, of playing baseball with Eggman, because of a chaos emerald. The group, however, refused to listen, and did their usual thing, which is mocking him, until he gives in. As it turned out, he was right in the end, and it would save them a lot less trouble, if they just took the emerald from Eggman, and put it to a safe place. This is never called out and the team and even Knuckles act like the effort and fun was worth it.

* DarkSecret: His [[PuppyLove crush]] on [[{{Kawaiiko}} Cream]], which Rouge uses to blackmail him at some point.

* BadassNormal: He's one of the few who is a powerful fighter without using inhabitant rings. He's able to fight on equal terms with Sonic, and is one of the most determined fighters yet.

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Abrasive, stubborn, somewhat anti-social, sarcastic, and has a huge temper, but ultimately just as heroic as Sonic, cares a lot about doing the right thing, and can be fun to be around when in the right mood.

* TheEmpath: Has an unexplained ability to "hear" Amy and Chris when they are thinking of him.
* FamedInStory: He becomes so popular that his fans started a movement in his likeness and ''quit their jobs just to run fanclubs''.

* LovedByAll: The people of Earth love Sonic to the point of obsession, and most of Sonic’s friends hero-worship him. Knuckles get annoyed with him, and Sam is jealous of Sonic being faster than him, but they do like him deep down. The only people who flat-out don’t like Sonic are the villains.

* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: He used to be bullied for having two tails, though IntelligenceEqualsIsolation was part of it as well.
* BerserkButton: He doesn't take it well when someone insults his technical skills.

* NiceGuy: One of the most mild-mannered of the cast.

* KarmaHoudini: Is never called out or punished for her temperamental behavior. Although, she never gets to go out with Sonic.

* SmittenTeenageGirl: Even though she's twelve, but still qualifies.

* ThinksLikeARomanceNovel: She imagines the times Sonic has saved her as being a RescueRomance, and daydreams about her and Sonic having a romantic day at the beach and watching the sunset together.

* AdaptationalJerkass: The 4kids dub of episode 74 has him outright say that they should remove the device in Cosmo's head knowing full well that it would impair Cosmo's vision and hearing. In the sub version, he was against it and insisted that there had to be a way to remove it without rendering Cosmo both deaf and blind.

* FriendlyRivalry: With Sonic, though on his part, [[FriendshipDenial the friendly part would be stretching it a bit.]]

* GreenEyedMonster: Jealous of Sonic's freedom, popularity, and carefree nature, which is one of the main reasons for their [[VitriolicBestBuds turbulent relationship.]]
