* BloodBrothers: They fight together and use "brother" and "sister" as a title for other Blades.

Officially the second son of Robert Baratheon and Cersei Lannister, William is actually the one trueborn son of Robert. After helping create a Royal Army and allowing the Blades to reform, he is sent to foster with Ned Stark in the North, where he becomes friends with Robb Stark, Jon Snow and Theon Greyjoy, as well as Arya Stark. The death of Jon Arryn kickstarts the story, as he ends up betrothed to Arya and then becoming the heir to the Iron Throne and the leader of the anti-Joffrey faction.
* AChildShallLeadThem: At age fifteen, he is widely acknowledged as the leader of the rebellion against Joffrey.

* TitleCharacter: According to Ned Stark, at least.

* OneHundredPercentAdorationRating: The only ones who do not like him are the villains of the story, and not all of them, if that.

* CoolSword: Dragonbane.

* PoisonousFriend: Truly loves Renly, but he also manipulates him so the Tyrells can set themselves up as TheManBehindTheMan, whether it is Renly's or William's.

* IllGirl: She suffered from greyscale when she was young, but her scars are mostly healed thanks to magic.

* AdultFear: Her eldest sons are fighting a war against each other and the winner ''will'' put the other to the sword. She's a bitch, but you can't deny this is a sucky situation.

* ActuallyPrettyFunny: Induces this in Astrid (a member of the Dark Brotherhood) and Tywin Lannister.

* AdaptationalBadass: Openly insults Joffrey in court. [[RealityEnsues This costs her a finger.]]

* BadassGay: Homosexual, and a very good jouster and swordsman.

* DyingMomentOfAwesome: Dies killing three Dremora Lords. It's noted that even killing ''one'' without magical power would have been an achievement.

* BadassGrandpa: Hitting his fifties, and still kicking ass like someone half his age.

* BadassGrandpa: He may be pushing his sixties, but ''damn'' if he will let that stop him.

* UndyingLoyalty: William is their leader, and woe to whomever are his enemies.

A veteran of many a battle, Tullius helped William develop his idea for a Royal Army, and was soon appointed as its general and ''de iure'' leader, helping put together an army made of people from all across Westeros. His leadership becomes crucial when Joffrey becomes the King and William contests this, starting a civil war between brothers.

* OldSoldier: He is a veteran soldier. Robert mentions that he fought on the Rebellion and even managed to hold Ser Barristan Selmy off during the Battle of the Ruby Ford.

* DefeatMeansFriendship: Becomes William's friend after he tricks him into joining him, Jon and Robb in training.
* TheDogBitesBack: When he decides to cast his family away for his friends, he points their mocking him didn't gain them any favours.

* HiddenDepths: Designs the ship the Sixth Legion uses, the Trirreme.

Tyrion Lannister, also known as "The Imp", is TheUnfavourite son of Tywin Lannister and another of William's mentors. His being accused of trying to have Bran killed and then being kidnapped by Catelyn Stark kickstarts the events that lead to the Baratheon Civil War. Ever since, he has been working to subtly undermine Joffrey's rule, as he considers William the best candidate for the Iron Throne.
* CoolUncle: William, Myrcella and Tommen consider him their favorite uncle.

* AFatherToHisMen: Chooses to remain in position and fortify against an incoming Legion attack rather than risk his men in a potentially useless run to aid Tywin and Kevan Lannister.

* MistreatmentInducedBetrayal: Tywin irrationally laying all the blame for the Lannisters being defeated in Riverrun and the Crossroads opens the way for Tyrion to convince him to change sides.

* HotWitch: She is considered a very beautiful woman - her attitude, though, does not help her much.

** She arrogantly claims the Nine Divines are a dying faith. The facts are against her: the number of followers of the Nine has grown greatly in the last years, enough to be a threat to the ''Faith of the Seven'', while the Red God's worshippers amount to a few people in Dragonstone and Thoros of Myr.

* DirtyCoward: Fancies himself a great conqueror and warrior. He was cowed by Arya carrying a stick, tries to get himself out of any fight where he might lose and had a VillainousBreakdown when he got in the middle of a battle.

* EvenEvilHasStandards: [[InvokedTrope Invoked]] upon him. WordOfGod firmly denies any possibility of him becoming a Champion to a Daedra: the good ones would be repulsed by his pettiness and cruelty while the bad ones would deem him too much of a dumbass.

* HonorBeforeReason: Acknowledges that the only reason he is supporting Joffrey is because Joffrey's and Cersei's actions made it impossible for him to join William's side.

* AdultFear: Her eldest sons are fighting a war against each other and the winner ''will'' put the other to the sword. She's a bitch but you can't deny this is a sucky situation.

* SmugSnake: Thinks all of William's actions will only strengthen the name of the Lannisters. Thinks she can easily find a way to get William to become Joffrey's [[TheDragon second-in-command]]. Thinks she is a master of the game of thrones. Fails miserably at all of them.

* BadassDecay: His fight against Delphine, and then training with the Blades, forces him to acknowledge that being a Kingsguard has blunted his skills.

* YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre: He's outright stunned when the Blades judge him worthy of respect for killing Aerys. The Mad King ''had'' forgot he was sworn to his people as a protector, and Jaime didn't.

* BigBrotherWorship: Adores William, knows he is far better a king than Joffrey and has no trouble in marrying Trystane Martell if that will get them to ally with William.

* TheMole: She actually supports William, and she uses her travel to Sunspear as cover to give the Martells a message proposing them an alliance.
* [[SmartPeoplePlayChess Smart People Play Cyvasse]]: Learns how to play cyvasse from William (although she suspects he lets her win on purpose) and is smarter than Joffrey.

* HeelRealization: When he watches a dead tired William charge without fear for the Oblivion Gate, he realizes William is fulfilling the archetype of KnightInShiningArmor far better than himself.

* SmugSnake: Gets stuck with a few SpannerInTheWorks along the way - mostly caused by William.

Born after Robert's Rebellion put an end to Targaryen rule over Westeros, Daenerys has lived all of her life exiled from what she considers her true home. Married to Dothraki warlord Khal Drogo by her brother Viserys, she eventually discovers she has the power of the Thu'um, but when tragedy strikes and her husband and unborn child are murdered by the Mythic Dawn, whom Viserys has allied himself to, she resolves to use her powers, her dragons and her growing army to defeat her brother and stake her claim to the Iron Throne.

* KillItWithFire: She kills Pyat Pree with her Fire Breathing Shout.

** PlayingWithFire: Her go-to Shout is the Fire Breathing Shout, which she also uses to teach her dragons how to speak.

* GracefulLoser: When the Ebony Warrior defeats him, he willingly cuts off his braid and hands it to him, merely suggesting that he hopes to meet him for another fight in the future.

Formerly Lord of Bear Island after his father joined the Night's Watch, Jorah was forced to exile himself after selling several poachers into slavery. Currently acting as Daenerys' main bodyguard and one of her advisors, he harbors an unrequited attraction towards her.

* TheMole: Actually a Blades agent sent to spy and protect Daenerys.

* NobleDemon: Probably one of the few Ironborn that has something akin to a conscience.

A once great force of honor and prestige, the Night's Watch has seriously decayed in the last decades as the Seven Kingdoms only send those who have committed serious crimes to man it. In charge of controlling the Wall - an imposing structure made of ice that separates the Seven Kingdoms from the rest of Westeros - they protect the lands south of it from the incursions of the wildlings, the people that live north of the Wall. However, clues that make it clear they will have to undertake their actual mission begin to emerge.

* CoolSword: Dawnbreaker, wich is very useful against undeads.

* TheSoCalledCoward: Claims he is a craven, but joins an expedition into a temple full of the undead without hesitation, and when push comes to shove he is an excellent crossbowman.
