* DarkerAndEdgier: This is one of most horrific portrayals of the Slender Man ''ever''. In other media, he rarely does anything personally, and leaves it to his proxies to take up the spotlight. Here, he's ''much'' more malicious, even sadistic, and for no other reason than his amusement. He actively chases Lauren down, constantly evokes ParanoiaFuel, and ''physically'' hinders her progress to keep her from advancing further, while intentionally keeping her in the dark that [[ShaggyDogStory he already accomplished his torment of her friends]] and [[YankTheDogsChain he's just stringing her along with a false sense of hope]]. He personally ruined the lives of an entire family by capturing ''a child'' (Charlie Matheson) and deforming it into an emaciated monster. He drives CR, a freelance investigator, to burn himself to death in a vein effort to keep others from learning about the Slender Man. He haunts Kate Hayes as far back as the first game, when she looked for notes in a forest as a kid, drives her insane, and transforms her into a SlaveMook that's forced to fight her old friend Lauren. It's even revealed that he had been stalking Kate and Charlie's families for a long, long time, and he presumably eradicated Kate's parents as well.

* InfectiousInsanity: [[spoiler:Heavily implied in ''Arrival'' that his entire existence depends people ''knowing'' he exists - and people who go insane tend to go to [[NightmareFuelColoringBook great lengths]] [[MadnessMantra to let other people know]], willingly or not. In fact, it's implied in the hard mode ending that he saved Lauren specifically so he wouldn't vanish, and/or to make sure she continues spreading knowledge of his existence. Those who are unfortunate enough to succumb to Slender Man's influence become his proxies and hunt his next victims for him. This, if you believe the proxies count as people who know, renders him nigh-immortal, [[ShaggyDogStory rendering C.R.'s death meaningless, and ultimately Kate's, too.]] And, of course, there's also [[WebVideo/MarbleHornets his]] ''[[WebVideo/TribeTwelve other]]'' [[WebVideo/DarkHarvest vic]][[WebVideo/EverymanHYBRID tims.]] And then there's the possibility it relies not on knowing he ''exists,'' specifically, but ''[[InvincibleVillain simply knowing about him at all.]]'']]
* LeanAndMean: One of the more chilling portrayals, given what he puts Kate, C.R. and Lauren through.

* FriendlessBackground: It's implied that CR is the boy whose missing poster reads "Charlie Matheson Jr." Having apparently left his family, he played in the woods with Kate as a kid and sneaked into the Kate's house all the time. He stopped visiting once Kate's mom caught wind of it. He knew about Lauren, but specifically asked Kate not to tell Lauren about him. Kate was his only real friend by this point.
