Then again, Kim drunkingly makes out with Knives, so perhaps she shouldn't be talking. Hero of the story. Scott is a dull-witted unemployed slacker (additionally, the bassist of a band called Sex Bob-Omb). Despite his various faults, he is ultimately a good person. Most of the other characters either tolerate him as a person or are actively trying to kill him. He falls in love with Ramona Flowers, but in order to win her heart he has to defeat her seven evil exes.

** A more straightforward example would be with Todd Ingram, the 3rd evil ex.. Both have similar name styles (Scott sounds like Todd and Ingram sounds like Pilgrim) and both are bassists in their band, (though Todd is much better at it than Scott). Furthermore, both have dated one another's girlfriends in the past (while also having been hurt by those same girls) and Todd even looks like a taller buffer version of Scott. However, Todd lacks any of Scott's positive qualities.

* TheJailBaitWait: Early in the series, Scott gets a lot of grief from his friends for dating Knives, a high schooler (though Stephen dates her later on and Kim actually ''drunkenly kisses'' a bit after making it HypocriticalHumor.). Ater Ramona vanishes, he tries to hook back up with Knives again after she finally turns 18, which leads to infamous "Sketchy-ass 24-year old" gag. Canada's legal age of consent since 2006 is 16 (was 14 beforehand) and Knives was 17 around the start of the book. Not only does it make the point moot, but one wonders if O'Malley intentionally did this or if it was an accident.
