Kaori's brother and a friend of Natsuno. He discovers the existence of the Shiki early on and tries to out and fight them througoht the series.

* FashionVictimVillain: This man's bad fashion sense is legendary, certain yellow one-piece hoodie with very short short's especially springs to mind and don't even get me started on his hair.

* TheScrappy: Without a doubt the most hated character. Whether it's her selfishness, her self-centered [[MotiveRant Motive Rants]] or the fact that she [[spoiler:kills Tohru.]]
** Some would argue that Masao is more hateful, if only because Megumi is at least somewhat competent even whilst she's also [[spoiler: a CompleteMonster]].
* TechnicolorEyes-Megumi has pink eyes to match her pink hair.

* [[spoiler:AlasPoorScrappy: Even though he's annoying, his death is still a bit of a tearjerker. With the rest of the Shiki being slaughtered and dawn about to break, he heads back to the only place of safety he can think of - his old house. He pleads for his sister to let him in, and she does...whilst hiding behind the door, hefting a golf club with which to stave in his skull.]]

* TheScrappy: He's ugly, selfish, prone to {{Wangst}} and a complete jerk who likes to blame all his problems on other people. He's also this in-universe, as most people in the village can't stand him.
* {{Wangst}}: Pretty much his whole character is dedicated to whining about trivial things.

* TheWoobie: Things do not go well for Kaori throughout the series. [[spoiler: Loses both parents, is taunted about it by Megumi, thinks Akira has been killed too and finally has to send her father back to his grave.]]

* [[spoiler: MoralEventHorizon: Cutting up his own wife who had been turned.]]

* [[spoiler:EvilIsSexy: Just look at some of the things she wears! Leads to DracoInLeatherPants among some fans.]]

** [[spoiler:Well, it was less 'pleading for her life' and more 'ranting about how everyone in the village except her sucks and should die in a fire'. But it was still rather pitiful nonetheless.]]

* [[spoiler:CompleteMonster: After she rises as a Shiki, she looses the few morals and little self-restraint she had in life, gleefully terrorising and killing the villagers, including her former best friend.]]

* {{Irony}}: [[spoiler: In her human life, she was always complaining about living in the small village and wanting to go out and live in a big city. Then she dies and turns into a shiki, gaining the freedom she long sought for but wasting it on deciding to terrorize the village. This winds up backfiring big time when the villagers strike back and by the time things have gotten so back for for the shinki, only ''then'' does she decide to flee to the city. Only to barely make it to the city limits before she staked and put down for good.]]

* DespairEventHorizon: As he slowly loses more and more villagers to the plague, his psyche and determination begin to deteriorate, resulting in his appearance becoming haggard and strained. Eventually he resorts to [[spoiler:experimenting on his wife when she rises as a Shiki in an attempt to either cure the plague or, failing that, to find the most efficient means of killing them.]]
* TheJorEl: No one believes him about the vampires. [[spoiler: Until he outs them anyway.]]

* XanatosGambit: How he [[spoiler: outed the shiki.]]

* AbusiveParents: [[spoiler: He tended to hit his son when his son was alive. Especially when his mom was telling on his son.]] He also [[spoiler: enjoyed killing his son in the manga far too much.]]

* DropTheHammer: After the Shiki are outed he takes to carrying around a huge mallet with which to drive in stakes.

* [[spoiler:KnightTemplar: In the anime, he kills a human who was under Shiki hypnosis, believing that he was a Shiki collaborator. He was also part of the group that killed Seishin's family after it became clear he was helping Sunako. Subverted in the manga, where he doesn't harm the hypnotised humans even after being stabbed by them.]]

One of the main protagonists. A fifteen year old boy was forced to move to Sotoba, needles to say, he ain't happy about it. Is one of the first ones to become aware of the shiki.

** [[YourMileageMayVary: As well as her AntiVillain status with some of the audience, you have to remember that she lost everyone she cared about other than Seishin by the end. Arguably still less than her due, but not quite scot-free.]]
