* {{Badass}}: In Episode 12, Wakaba accidentally splashes Anthy with a glass of water in an attempt to ward off Touga making inappropriate advances on Utena, [[spoiler: who fell into a depression from losing both the duel against Touga and Anthy in the process.]] When Wakaba goes too far in blaming Anthy for Utena's current state, [[spoiler: she gets bitch-slapped by [[ActionGirl Utena]] herself for her actions, and deviously grins in victory of ''finally'' getting a reaction out of her best friend before hitting back ''just'' as hard.]]

* ItsAllAboutMe: [[spoiler: As he lose his powers once as Prince Dios after Anthy took the swords of hate for him, he became bitter and selfish over it as he goes under the alias Akio Ohtori years later and desires to regain it back by manipulating many of the duelists including Utena within Ohtori Academy to dueling with each other until he find a sword with the power of love and nobility that Utena wields enough to break open the Rose Gates containing his lost powers on the other side hidden within the dueling stage.]]

* FalseFriend: Saionji is an asshole, but he still doesn't deserve what Touga pulls on him.

[[spoiler:During his seduction sequences appears to be a ''perfect'' gentleman, but turns out to be the EnemyWithout of a prince deity whose little sister Anthy has to suffer for his inability to cope with being divine. His seduction of Utena (including taking her virginity) is presented by him as the gentlemanly thing to do - kissing her feet, making her feel like a lady - it turns out it's all a ruse to make her into a very feminine, yet also completely passive bride for him to use in his cosmic plans, instead of her becoming a prince who could conquer him, and just like he did to Anthy.]]

* ChivalrousPervert: Subverted. Touga seduces any girl he wants -- three or four at a time -- but cares for Utena, his sister Nanami, and his friend Saionji. And yet, that doesn't stop him from being a ManipulativeBastard to them if he thinks he can gain something from it. See the ending of Nanami's duel in the third arc for a truly horrific example of this.

* ManipulativeBastard: [[ZigZaggedTrope Toyed with]]. At first we're led to believe he's another manipulative prick just like most of the other males, but by the end of Juri's duel it's revealed that [[spoiler:every cruel he did was to discredit Shiori and free Juri from her self-destructive obsession with the girl]]. And then he's back in this when we recall ''what'' kind of actions he pulled, like [[spoiler: borderline/straightforwardly molesting Juri and sexually humiliating Shiori]] to achieve his goal.

* DefiledForever: [[spoiler:It's heavily implied that she and Ruka [[AutoErotica had sex while in Akio's car]] and because of this and her low self-esteem, it's implied that her over-the-top begging for Ruka to not dump her is because she feels thay now nobody would ever want her.]]

* JerkassFacade: In retrospect, every action he took was to [[spoiler:free Juri from her unhealthy bond to Shiori]], and there's a good chance he was [[spoiler:making Juri hate him on purpose]]. [[ZigZaggedTrope Even so]], [[spoiler:he made this happen by publicly humiliating Shiori, which was definitely not necessary. He even forcibly kisses Juri after the incident happens.]]

* ManipulativeBastard: [[ZigZaggedTrope Toyed with]]. At first we're led to believe he's another manipulative prick just like most of the other males, but by the end of Juri's duel it's revealed that [[spoiler:every cruel he did was to discredit Shiori and free Juri from her self-destructive obsession with the girl]]. And then he's back in this when we recall ''what'' kind of actions he pulled, like [[spoiler: borderline/straightforwardly molesting Juri and sexually humiliating Shiori]] ''which was not needed at all''.

* VocalDissonance: A minor case, but Creator/YurikoFuchizaki sounds noticeably older than many members of the high school cast. [[spoiler:Utena being Utena, this was probably deliberate]].

* DirtyCoward: [[spoiler:What he is deep down. Beneath the manipulations, seductions and duels is only a selfish child, refusing to grow up, who makes others suffer for his own amusement and desires. The moment he thinks the swords are going to get him, he starts sweating cold.]] A more notable incident was [[spoiler: him throwing Anthy in front of him during Utena's assault when Utena starts kicking his ass in their duel.]]

* OhCrap: Twice; first when Utena temporaily loses the Power of Dios in Episode 25, and [[spoiler: later in his duel with Utena herself when she puts him on the ropes after destroying the planetarium with her ShutUpHannibal BadassBoast.]]

* TookALevelInBadass: [[spoiler: In Episode 32, she battles Utena with more ferocity than she's had before, giving the latter a much harder time. When Utena goes for the finishing strike, Nanami evades the attack with an impressive jump, soaring over Utena and then knocking the latter down. It's even better that since she's only using her sword and not DuelWielding, it symbolizes that she's ''very'' capable of kicking ass on her own.]]

* RealityWarper: The reason for his continued existence. Unfortunately for him, Akio and Anthy are also RealityWarpers.

* AscendedExtra <- -> DemotedToExtra: From the manga to the anime, where she gets more fleshed out and a near total personality overhaul, then back to extra in the movie.

* TomboyWithAGirlyStreak: PlayedForDrama in Utena's case. Episode 12 straight up shows that a tomboy Utena is a happy Utena and when she's getting girly, something's wrong with her. [[spoiler:The ''only'' time she wore the female uniform was after losing Anthy to Touga and she believed she losed her right to be a prince. Later on she starts to slip from her male uniform to more girly clothes after being seduced by Akio who almost got her to slip out of being a prince to turn her into a princess.]]
