* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: When D'arcy attempts to take up competitive skiing again, she throws herself into an intensive training regime. In a lot of other films, she'd be a MadeOfIron Determinator who would muscle through all obstacles, beat the competition, and hoist the trophy to the raucous cheers of her friends. Here, she's a woman who's well past her prime and cannot push herself as hard or recover as quickly as she used to. The injury that ended her skiing career flares up again. The hard training just to succeed in the qualifying run leaves her in constant agony, addicted to painkillers, begging Harry to give her cortisone injections so she can compete, behaving erratically from the painkillers, driving away her boyfriend, and finally admitting her addiction to Asta and moving in with her and Dan to wean herself off the addiction.

When he points out that he heard gunfire from ''two'' weapons of different calibers (he's an extremely experienced cop), Harry pops a party favor and insists that it was just him celebrating. The Sheriff buys the story and doesn't press the matter. The problem is that hearing shots from two different caliber weapons means there is likely an exchange of gunfire going on, i.e. two people ''shooting at each other.'' When he arrived on the scene and saw D'arcy holding the rifle, he should have ordered her to immediately put the weapon down (pointing his own gun at her if it was necessary to force compliance), before he started trying to sort the situation out. It doesn't matter that he knows D'arcy or that she wasn't holding the weapon in a threatening manner. When responding to a situation, police procedure is anyone holding a weapon must be forced to disarm
