Added some framework to Doc to separate him from canon Doc and S15-17 Doc, after Restoration revealed the latter three seasons were just simulations.

!!Associated Tropes:!!Tropes pertaining to Doc in general:

* AmbiguousSituation: [[spoiler:It's unknown if Deke actually existed, since it's possible that the whole sob story was something concocted by O'Malley so as to get hold of Grif's time gun]].

* AscendedExtra: He serves as one of the main protagonists of the second half of Season 17, after spending most of the series as a supporting character.
* BecomingTheMask: Sort of. When he first came along, he barely qualified as a war medic and he didn't seem to know what he was doing. Later on, by the time of Season 15, he's proved himself to not only be a reasonably skilled soldier (''especially'' with a rocket launcher), but he's also managed to actually heal several people (like Wash, Felix, and Carolina) from the brink of death, thus proving himself worthy of being called a combat medic.

* CharacterFocus: He gets quite a bit of focus in the second half of Season 17, serving as Donut's sidekick after everyone else is trapped in the Labyrinth.

* DarkAndTroubledPast: He claims he had a little brother named Deke, who fell into a river when Doc looked a way for just a second. Doc managed to pull his brother out of the water, but his brother wasn't breathing, and Doc didn't know CPR. Doc could only stand helpless as eventually, Deke's pulse ''ceased''. There is some doubt as to the validity of this story, however, as [[spoiler:the whole thing could have just been a sob-story concocted by O'Malley so he can get his hands on Grif's time gun]]

** For the ButtMonkey. While his horrible treatment is still successfully PlayedForLaughs, it's also caused him legitimate mental issues (read: his AxCrazy SplitPersonality) and eventually inspires him to perform a FaceHeelTurn in Seasons 15 & 16.

* GranolaGirl: One of his defining character traits, as he can be basically summed up as what would happen if a NewAgeRetroHippie ever got drafted into the role of a CombatMedic. Simmons literally describes Doc as being a fan of "fringe holistic lifestyle choices" in Season 10, and Donut's own GranolaGirl qualities probably accounts at least for a bit why they form an OddFriendship. Furthering the trope, Doc loves alternative methods of medicine, caring for Caboose's gunshot wound to the foot in Season 2 by rubbing his patient's neck with Aloe Vera. He also frequently annoyed the other members of the Blood Gulch Crew in the earlier seasons by trying to encourage a peaceful end to their pointless conflict, and by Season 16, is a passionate vegetarian (with him creating a comically uber-vegan pizza that disgusted Grif to the point of shooting at him).
* HealingShiv: The gun-like object he (as well as other medic-type characters) keeps with him is supposedly a medical scanner that can diagnose injuries and sicknesses. Amusingly subverted in Season 15, where he outright admits that [[LeaningOnTheFourthWall it's actually just a Plasma Pistol.]]

* MadeOfIron: To the point of NighInvulnerability. Contrast him getting punched by the Meta in ''Revelation'' to Season 9 Episode 2 on how ''normal'' soldiers react by being beat up by Freelancers, especially the Dakota Twins. He is punched '''so''' hard into a reinforced wall that he's permanently immersed in 5 tons of it, to the point that not even SuperStrength or the Warthog crane can liberate him... and he doesn't even get a headache. He's also caught in an explosion that leaves ''[[SuperSoldier Washington]]'' visibly injured and shaken while he is totally fine with no injuries whatsoever, and later survived in a timeless void "that refutes all logic as we know it!" for several months until he somehow escaped back to Chorus. [[spoiler:And somehow, Donut blasting him off the top of a skyscraper didn't kill Doc either.]]

* MistreatmentInducedBetrayal: Part of the reason he joins the Blues and Reds is because the Blood Gulch Crew has always [[ButtMonkey treated him terribly]]. He only turns back when he realizes that the Blues and Reds are ''even worse''.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: He feels guilty for trusting the Blues and Reds, saying that he's partially responsible for all the death, injury, and misery that happened as a result of their actions.
* MyGreatestFailure: ''The Shisno Paradox'' reveals the reason he became a medic was to atone for failing to save his brother from drowning.

** ''Restoration'' graduates this trope into a full-on [[spoiler:BusCrash, as he died off-screen after the events of Season 13. The Doc present in the film is just Washington's hallucination.]]

* SitcomArchNemesis: Downplayed compared to Sarge and Grif's relationship, but Doc and Grif have never really gotten along well after they insulted each other early on in Season 2 during Doc's time as Red Team's prisoner. It's only gotten worse from there, as Grif's stunts with the Future Cubes in Season 11 were indirectly responsible for Doc getting sucked into another dimension, Doc's O'Malley persona then gave Grif a vicious TheReasonYouSuckSpeech in Season 13, and Grif still hasn't seem to have forgiven Doc for betraying the Blood Gulch Crew to the Blues and Reds in Season 15. When they get stranded in time together during ''The Shisno Paradox'' (with Grif constantly brushing aside Doc's desire to [[SetRightWhatOnceWentWrong stop some of the most devastating pandemics in history]] [[RetGone in favor of ensuring the creation of pizza]]), Grif ''does'' eventually decide to lend Doc the time portal gun out of guilt after hearing Doc's [[MyGreatestFailure greatest failure]]... except O'Malley then tricks him and strands him in sixth-century Italy. Suffice to say, there is no love lost between Grif and Doc.
* SplitPersonality: He appears to have one to others thanks to his possession by O'Malley in ''The Blood Gulch Chronicles''. He gains one for real in Season 13 due to his SanitySlippage. The two [[spoiler:eventually merge in Season 17]].

** It's subtle, but when O'Malley leaves his head, he doesn't hesitate to [[PrecisionFStrike swear]], when before, the closest he got was "H-E-Double hockey sticks". Also, he's kind of nonchalant when's he's reintroduced in Season 11. And his reappearance in Season 13 goes to show just how far he lost it by having him beat up Tucker.

It's implied that he's acting this way because O'Malley is still subconsciously influencing him, and in the following season he is deeply regretful of his actions.

* TheBrute: Serves as the physical enforcer for Chrovos in ''The Shisno Paradox''.

* GracefulLoser: After Donut outsmarts him with a grenade at the end of their epic duel through time and space in "Paradox," he begrudgingly notes "Well played" before getting blasted off of a skyscraper.
* HeelFaceRevolvingDoor: Initially helps the Blood Gulch Crew fight against the Space Pirates on Chorus, but later sides with Chrovos during ''The Shisno Paradox''. Eventually, he undergoes a SplitPersonalityMerge with Doc at the end of ''Singularity''.
* HydePlaysJekyll: In ''The Shisno Paradox'', O'Malley pulls a frighteningly good gambit on Grif by impersonating Doc and conjuring a ([[AmbiguousSituation possibly]]) fake sob story to get the time traveling gun from him. He later tries to impersonate Doc again during his fight with Donut, but Donut's wise to his act and doesn't fall for it.
* LaughablyEvil: Much like the original [=A.I.=] from the Blood Gulch Chronicles, this personality is too ineffectual and hammy to be taken seriously. Even when he steps up and becomes a legitimate threat to Donut in Season 16, his antics still make him an utter riot to watch.
