** Nihilego and Xurkitree have the Ground type which resists both Nihilegos STABs and is doubly strong against it. Xurkitree being a pure Electric type makes Ground its worst matchup by default
** Buzzwole and Pheromosa have the Flying type resisting both their STABs and being doubly weak to it.
** Kartana has a double Fire weakness and its STABs are resisted by Fire.
** Guzzlord has a double Fairy weakness and has Fairy resist one STAB and negate the other.
** Celesteela has both its STAB resisted by Electric and is weak to it, though unlike the other dual-types its not a double weakness.

* NonStandardCharacterDesign: To play up their otherworldly nature, most of the Ultra Beasts have designs that clash significantly with the majority of Pokémon. Some have no eyes, some look more like machines than living creatures, several have odd proportions by series standards, and some look extremely dark by Pokémon standards (like Guzzlord). Nihilego, Xurkitree, and Kartana all in particular stand out, as they have no face nor anything that could pass for one at all.

* BerserkButton: They are drawn to and attack people charged with energy from an Ultra Wormhole, known as "Fallers". It's stated that they're just trying to return to their original dimension, but have been known [[spoiler:to kill Fallers in their fruitless attempt]].

** This doesn't seem to be an innate property, however, as once the player has captured them, they don't attack the player.

* HellIsThatNoise: The anime portrays its roar as a man screaming in agony, though it is also heard making some standard PokemonSpeak sounds in its second appearance.

* FinalBoss: Guzzlord's the last Ultra Beast that you end up catching in ''Sun and Moon'' and it gives off this vibe. Appropriately enough, it sets itself apart as there being only one to catch (Nihilego has this as well, but there were multiple shown in Ultra Space), comes at the highest level, and is far out in a single area. To put it further, it has the lowest catch rate of them at 15. Finally, the bottom floor of Resolution Cave in which it is encountered resembles the format of the same room containing Zygarde in ''X and Y''.

* {{Superboss}}: All of them are found in the post-game and will likely be the ones most capable of wiping out your entire team in your attempts to catch them. All of them need to be captured to unlock [[TrueFinalBoss the highest-level Pokémon in the game]], Necrozma.

* LongLived: In its debut episode of the ''Anime/{{Pokemon}}'' anime (''[[Recap/PokemonS21E26RiseAndShineStarship Rise and Shine, Starship!]]''), it was revealed that one particular Celesteela had been growing in Alola for over 200 years after emerging from a naturally occurring Ultra Wormhole.

* MultipleHeadCase: Like its inspiration; its belly serves as its "main" head, while it also has a small vestigial head that doesn't serve much purpose.

* ScreamingWarrior: Its first appearance in the anime has it eschew Pokemonspeak in favor of just yelling at the top of its enormous lungs.

* WeakToMagic: Buzzwole has amazing physical bulk, but a paltry 53 special defense.
