Most of her problems are internal (nervous about going to an onsen due to the nudity, occasionally looking away from mirrors, recurring dreams that she tries to ignore), but go away once she properly comes out. She wanted to come out in Littleroot Town but was focused on her journey instead.

[[caption-width-right:350:From left to right: [[DeadpanSnarker Kidd]], [[FieryRedhead Holly]] and [[OnlySaneMan Tank]] ]]
A trio of fourteen-year-olds who journey throughout the Hoenn region. They meet up in Littleroot Town and end up together after receiving their starters on the same day.

!Tropes that fit two or more of the trio and their Pokémon:

* AdaptationPersonalityChange: Holly is more hotheaded and impulsive (acting more like a sisterly/uchi villager than a lazy, foreshadowing her transition) while Tank is more calm and easygoing than most 'jock' villagers.
* AnImmigrantsTale: Holly and Kidd are foreigners from another region (Unova and Kalos, respectively), and the story follows them adjusting to the Hoenn region.
* AscendedExtra: In VideoGame/AnimalCrossing, they're only three out of hundreds of resident villagers. Here, they're the main characters.
* BeautyBrainsAndBrawn: Gender-inverted. Kidd is the fashionista Beauty (focused on contests and his appearance), Tank is the reliable Brains (knowledgable about Hoenn culture/language, researches Pokémon for Professor Nook), and Holly is the hotheaded Brawn (first to go into Pokémon battling, a former delinquent, and most hellbent on fighting).
* BerserkButton: The easiest way to piss off the trio?
** Holly: Back in Castelia, bullying a girl guarantees a beatdown.
** Kidd: Suggesting body spray counts as a shower, or using 3-in-1 shampoo, will have him last out.
** Tank: Comparing him to Team Cottage OR ignoring his phone calls. The Cottage one is justified, since they've murdered his close friend, the Fortree City Gym Leader.
* BigEater: All three of them, clearing off a croquette platter ''meant for twelve animals'', and eating three bowls of ramen. ''Each''. Justified since they're regularly active teenagers who need all the calories they can get.
* BlondeBrunetteRedhead: Tank is the Blonde (well, green with a slight yellow tint but is lighter than the other two's hair colors), Kidd is the Brunette and Holly is the Redhead.
* CelebCrush: While the trio are in a happy relationship with each other, they've all got crushes on Apollo.
* CharacterDevelopment: The trio go through this as the fic goes on:
** Holly: Early chapters have her act more rude, pushy and unable to take a loss. Later chapters make her a GracefulLoser when her Pokémon faint in battle, and she gains a heroic streak (willing to interrupt a gym battle just to save some wild Corphish and Crawdaunt). She later comes out as a girl in chapter 42.
** Kidd: In the first few chapters, he's an aloof and prissy Neutral Male. Later chapters show his kindness, newfound confidence in both battling and contests, and willing to mess up his appearance when possible.
** Tank: He's the most 'normal' of the group and a pushover for Nook. Later chapters show him as an equal to Tom Nook and embracing his eccentric side.
* DeadpanSnarker: All three of the trio have their share of sarcasm and snark, though in the very beginning Kidd stands out before they all fit the trope equally.
* DishingOutDirt: Kidd has the Ground-type Swampert (which knows Rock Slide), Holly has the Rock-type Lairon (who knows Rock Slide and Stealth Rock), and Tank has the Rock-type Lileep (which knows Ancient Power).
* EdibleThemeNaming: Holly's deadname comes from eggs benedict (her current name references hollandaise sauce), Tank's last name Pepper comes from the plant, and Kidd's last name Chavignol references a [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crottin_de_Chavignol a type of goat cheese]]
* EveryoneIsBi: [[spoiler: All three of them are bisexual, and heavily implied to be crushing on each other. They later become a polycule.]]
* FlowerMotifs:
** Holly: Hollyhocks, which symbolize ambition. She picked her name after her favorite flower.
** Tank: Camellias, fitting his Hoennian heritage and symbolizing adoration.
** Kidd: Pansies, symbolizing love and admiration to represent his hidden romantic side.
* ExposedToTheElements: Inverted. Hoenn is a subtropical region, yet Kidd's wearing a peacoat and scarf ensemble while Holly's wearing a thick hoodie. Justified since they're foreigners to Hoenn and aren't adjusted to the climate.
* FriendToAllChildren: The trio all show kindness to younger children. Holly lets her new fan club (a group of kindergartners) play with her Pokémon, Tank comforts Leila (Kappn's daughter) when she ends up lost and chased down by a Poochyena, and Kidd is willing to lend an ear to Dolly when she's upset.
* HiddenDepths:
** Tank's passionate about astronomy.
** Holly's a fanfiction writer, a member of a literature club, has crossdressed before she came out as a girl, and was a former Poké Scout (until her dad stopped paying for her membership).
** Kidd has skills in cosmetology and taught himself how to braid others' hair.
* MakingASplash: All three trainers all have Water-types with water moves (Aquarius the Swampert, Asuka the Gyarados and Victoria the Lombre).
* MasculineGirlFeminineBoy: Holly is the aggressive battle-lover of her group, while Kidd is a sensitive style-conscious coordinator and Tank is a polite researcher whose the most gentle with wild Pokémon.
* NewTransferStudent: Holly and Kidd are new to the Hoenn region (coming from Unova and Kalos, respectively).
* {{Otaku}}: All three of the trio:
** Holly names her Pokémon after manga characters, Tank buys several copies of manga for himself (he's also a huge fan of the series ''Crossing Rider Go''), and Kidd reads doujinshi several times in the series.
* PowerTrio: Three main characters who travel together through the Hoenn region.
* RapeAsBackstory: [[spoiler: A year before the story began, the trio met each other in an online support group for sexual assault victims.]]
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan:
** Kidd is the Sensitive (style-conscious, performance-based goal, initially stays out of conflict), while Tank is the Manly (researching-based goal, more impulsive in early chapters).
* SignatureMon: The Treecko line for Tank, Torchic line for Holly and Mudkip line for Kidd.
* TownGirls: Gender-inverted. Kidd (a coordinator) is the stylish 'femme' Uptown, Holly (a gym challenger) is the hotheaded 'butch' Out of Town, and Tank is the reliable 'boy next door' Downtown.
* TransformationTrinket: All three of the main characters have their Key Stones attached to their outfits: Tank's is a Mega Bracelet, Kidd has his Key Stone in his scarf, and Holly wears hers on a wallet chain, later being placed on her hairpin.
* WholeCostumeReference: For all three:
** Tank's main outfit is based on a mix of outfits worn by ORAS!Brendan (crop top and short-sleeved open shirt from both regular outfit and Contest outfit) and Goh (baggy joggers, exposed socks and slip-on sneakers).
** Holly's first outfit is directly based on RSE!Brendan's (right down to the shoes).
** Kidd's outfit is based on a combination of trainer customization outfits both Calem and Serena wear, along with a white scarf like Platinum!Dawn.
* WholesomeCrossdresser: In one chapter, the trio crossdress to enter a talent show (before Holly came out as a girl), and nobody in story has a problem with said crossdressing.

!!Holly Sussex (née Benedict)

One of the three main protagonists. She's originally from Castelia City in the Unova region, but has Hoennian and Galarian heritage.
!!!Her team: Blaziken, Gardevoir, Gyarados, Lairon, Manectric and Altaria

* AccentSlipUp: Holly usually speaks in a Southern accent, but at her most hotheaded, she'll slip into a Cockney accent.
* AdaptationalGenderIdentity: In the original Animal Crossing, Benedict is male. Here, Holly is a transgender girl.
* AttractiveBentGender: Before properly coming out, she crossdresses as a sukeban girl in one chapter, and Scoot finds the tough girl act very cute.
* BadassAdorable: Coffret, a cute fluffy Swablu, is just as strong as his bigger and more powerful teammates. Even after evolving into Altaria, he's still an adorable fluff ball.
* BadassCrew: Most of her Pokémon are badasses in battle i.e. a Blaziken that can kick through an indestructible net, a Gardevoir with lunar powers, a Manectric with intense electric powers, and a shiny Gyarados whose attack stat can wipe out multiple Pokémon.
* BarbarianLonghair: Before coming out, she wore her hair like this. Appropriately enough, she's the Brawn of her trio.
* BareFistedMonk: Her Blaziken is a Fighting-type with moves like Low Sweep at his disposal.
* BrooklynRage: A FantasyCounterpartCulture variant. She's from Castelia City and is the most battle-loving hothead of the trio.
* BloodKnight: She lives for battling with her Pokémon, and is the most violent of the trio.
* BlowYouAway: She has the Flying-type Altaria on her team.
* BullyHunter: Back in Castelia City, she beat up another classmate for picking on one of the girls.
* ButNotTooForeign: She's Hoennian on her mom's side and Galarian on her dad's side. Due to being born and raised in Castelia City, however, she considers herself Unovan.
* CharacterTics: Pre-transition, she undoes her ponytail before taking on Pokémon battles.
* CockyRooster: Gender-inverted. She's a hen who acts overly confident, and her starter is a battle loving Blaziken.
* {{Determinator}}: If he sets her mind on something, she'll do it, whether it's wrangling a shiny Magikarp or taking on a gym battle. The only time she isn't this is when she's injured.
** All of her Pokémon share her hot blooded determination in battle.
* DisappearedDad: Her dad Mornay is gone from her life, and is later revealed to be a complete deadbeat and suggested to be abusive.
* DoesNotLikeSpam: Being a bird, she's uncomfortable with eating eggs in general. Downplayed in that she does enjoy okonomiyaki (which has egg in it) and she starts enjoying Rustboro-style curry, which has a baked egg in the middle (dipping the egg in roux beforehand).
* DragonTamer: She has the draconic Gyarados on her team, along with the Dragon-type Altaria in her party. She's also flown around on a Latias.
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: After coming out as a girl, she starts wearing her hair in two low pigtails.
* ExtraOreDinary: Has the Steel-type Lairon on her team, which knows Iron Head.
* EverythingsBetterWithSparkles: Asuka (her Magikarp, later a Gyarados) is shiny, and always sparkles when she's released from her ball.
* FieryRedhead: She's a redhead, and a hotheaded Pokémon trainer at that. Back in Unova she had a short temper and got violent with students ''and'' teachers alike, but in the present day she's less likely to pick fights (unless she's challenging someone to a Pokémon battle).
* FlowerMotifs: Hollyhocks (symbolizing ambition). She's ambitious and determined about taking on the Pokémon League and eventually Champion Apollo. Appropriately enough, her chosen name is Holly, after said flower.
* FlowersOfFemininity: After coming out as a girl, she starts wearing a large flower in her hair. The flower is revealed to be the same one she bought back in Dewford Town.
* GirlishPigtails: Part of her transition includes wearing her hair in two low pigtails. Downplayed in that she's still hotblooded and determined to battle Apollo.
* GracefulLoser: It's part of her CharacterDevelopment. In chapter 35, after [[spoiler: losing a battle against Butch]], she takes the loss well and realizes she can just train at the Pokémon Center before challenging Butch for a rematch.
* HeadPet: Coffret (her Swablu) is very fond of sitting atop his trainer and pretending to be a hat. Of course, he can't do this anymore after evolving into Altaria.
* HeroesLoveDogs: Holly's the main protagonist, and one of her Pokémon is the electric-type canine Manectric.
* HorseOfADifferentColor: Holly's seen riding several of her Pokémon at different points through the fic: her Gyarados when in water, Manectric in a tower and Lairon in a tunnel.
* ImportantHairAccessory: In Dewford Town, she bought a large purple flower-shaped hairclip. After she comes out in Fortree City, she starts wearing the flower in her hair and clips her Key Stone to the center.
* InTheNameOfTheMoon: Just before her Gardevoir uses Moonblast, she shouts "In the name of the Hoenn region....Makoto, USE MOONBLAST!"
* JapaneseDelinquents: Holly's half-Hoennian and got violent with her classmates back in Castelia City. Pre-transition, she crossdresses as a sukeban girl in one chapter, and later reveals that she's been suspended from school five times (one of which involved cussing out her teacher).
* LikeFatherLikeSon: It's implied her father has the same hotblooded spirit as her. [[spoiler: Zigzagged. It's revealed Mornay is a deadbeat, while Holly is loyal to her friends-turned-partners.]]
* {{Lunacy}}: Makoto's Moonblast attack is stronger during nighttime.
* MagicalAccessory: Her Key Stone is attached to her flower hairclip, allowing her to Mega Evolve her Pokémon.
* NonElemental: Doesn't specialize in any type, but it is important to note that when everyone on her team is fully evolved, they're capable of Mega Evolution.
* TheNicknamer: Aside from the names she gives her Pokémon, Holly gives several trainers nicknames (including "Jude" for Judy).
* OneOfTheGirls: Pre-transition. Back when she lived in Castelia City, all of her friends were girls, and it's implied she didn't have any ''male'' friends before meeting Tank and Kidd.
* OneOfTheGuys: After her transition, she ends up as this. She's the one girl in her Hoennian friend group (Tank, Kidd, Frank and Apollo).
* OnlyOneWhoLikesSpam: While Tank and Kidd find natto disgusting and refuse to eat it, Holly thinks it's pretty good and finishes it off.
* OurFairiesAreDifferent: Makoto (her Gardevoir) is part Fairy-type and knows the powerful move Moonblast.
* OutsideTheBoxTactic: With her quick thinking, she can make even ''Splash'' a useful move in battle. Even outside of battle, she does this (using an Escape Rope to help climb up a steep cliff).
* PlayingWithFire: Her starter is the Fire-type Torchic, while her Manectric knows Fire Fang (which later upgrades to Flamethrower). She's also associated frequently with fire (bright red hair that can resemble flames, is interested in making a molotov cocktail, and is joked about being a pyromaniac).
* PracticallyDifferentGenerations: One chapter reveals that she has two older siblings, one of them being the 31-year-old Blathers. This is because her dad Mornay had another family before meeting her mom.
* PurpleIsPowerful: She often wears purple clothing and is a competent trainer who wields Mega Evolution.
* RedBaron: In gym matches, she's known as "Hollyhock Sussex of Castelia City", but she's also referred to as "the Red Gyarados trainer" and "Lady Castelia".
