* AdaptationalJerkass: This Gladion is far more ruthless and anti-heroic than his own game counterpart. He is out to capture the Tapus through ruthless methods in order to find a way to stop the UB's and is not above using his Type: Null to attack humans. He also shows a nasty sexist streak toward Plumeria when first meeting her, implying that the male Team Skull grunts only obey her because she's physically attractive, but this streak only extends to women in position of power due to his own trauma and experience with having Lusamine for a mother. Other than that, he is strongly protective of his sister Lillie and greatly respects Moon's capabilities and skill, he also respects Wicke enough.

* AdaptationalVillainy: In the games, Gladion was an enforcer for Team Skull but that was where his villainy ended. Here, he is out to capture the Tapus through ruthless methods and is not above using his Type: Null to attack humans. He also shows a nasty sexist streak toward Plumeria when first meeting her, implying that the male Team Skull grunts only obey her because she's physically attractive. Yet, given that he respects Moon and cares for Lillie, and his reason for capturing the Tapu's was to find more manpower to fight against the Ultra Beast, his characterization makes him more of an AntiHero than his game counterpart.

!Alola Dex Holders
[[folder:Sun]]
!!'''Sun'''
!!!The Saver
->''"My name’s Sun!! You can call me Sun the courier!"''
[[quoteright:206:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sun_9.png]]
The male protagonist of the Sun & Moon saga, he aims to collect ₽100 million (dollars or yen depending on the translation) for a currently unspecified reason. His first Pokémon is an Alolan Meowth named Cent and his starter is a Litten named Dollar.
----
* AllForNothing: [[spoiler:A truly tragic example, his goal to obtain 100 million to buy back his grandfather's island turn out to be for nothing since in the time it took for him to gather the money, Aether Paradise was already made and it will take a whole lot more money to buy what is built on top of the island along with reconstructing it. On top of that, Faba only suggested him to buy it back as a joke, never thinking Sun would actually do it, which means it was for nothing the day he started.]]
* AnimalMotifs: As evident by his mouth shape and his first 2 Pokémon, cat.
* AngstWhatAngst: See ThePollyanna entry below.
* BreakTheCutie: [[spoiler:As mentioned above, discovering the fact his goal to obtain 100 million was for nothing.]]
* BerserkButton: The Aether Foundation is this for him, stemming from the fact that [[spoiler: he believes they "stole" his late grandfather's island to build Aether Paradise, and is the reason he's collecting 100 million Yen to buy it back. By USUM, he tries to fight anyone associated with them the point where Moon has to stop him several times from attacking the only opportunity to escape the Ultra Deep Sea that appeared in six months they were trapped.]]
* BirdsOfAFeather: Strikes up an immediate friendship with Kiawe, being both hot-blooded individuals who are saving money to follow in their dreams, to the extent that [[spoiler: by the end of USUM, Kiawe is working with Sun in his courier service.]]
* BrutalHonesty: The kid has no filter at all, which leads to him making borderline rude and inappropriate comments in otherwise serious situations.
* ButtMonkey: Prone to slapstick. Was even beat up physically by Professor Kukui.
* CatSmile: His most prominent feature.
* CheerfulChild: States that he doesn't mind being an IdiotHero as long as he can have fun. That said, he [[MoodSwinger gets pretty grumpy]] if he loses any money-making opportunity.
* GameplayAndStoryIntegration: As The Saver, he represents money.
* GoalInLife: His goal is to collect 100 million [[spoiler:in order to buy back his grandfather's island.]]
** [[spoiler:This is also his biggest flaw since he's so driven to achieve it that he ignores a bigger crisis such as the Ultra Beast invasion which left Solgaleo vulnerable and got him snatched up by Necrozma along with Moon and Lunala trying to save him by chasing after him, leaving Lusamine unchallenged and allowed to ravage Alola for 6 months.]]
** [[spoiler:By the end of Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, he's now working to make the Poké Pelago his grandfather always planned a reality.]]
* HonorBeforeReason: Even though he's desperate for cash, he still intends to earn it through honest means. He even intended to return the Sparkling Stone to Tapu Koko the next time they meet, and gets angry at Professor Kukui for insinuating that he wanted to sell it.
* InSeriesNickname: Moon just calls him "Delivery Boy".
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He can be a greedy and self-centered person, with little brain-to-mouth filter, but he's also fair and honorable.
* [[LikeFatherLikeSon Like Trainer, Like Pokémon]]: It's shown that despite Sun being a active workaholic compared to Cent's laziness, several scenes show that he can be just as sluggish as Cent about stuff not related to earning money. [[spoiler: As its shown later on, both of them greatly care about their grandfather/their trainer, and share a single-minded focus of getting back their grandfather's island above all else.]]
* MoneyFetish: He aims to collect ₽100 million. He takes on numerous jobs to accumulate the money he needs, which primarily involve delivery. He later reveals it's to [[spoiler:buy the island that the Aether Foundation took from his Great Grandpa. By the USUM arc, he completely loses any interest on it, as seen from how he says "can always buy more."]]
* OnlyInItForTheMoney: If the task doesn't involve money, he's not interested. One clear example is in the full-force tournament, when the prize is revealed to be the Island Challenge Amulet. He suddenly regains motivation, believing it would fetch him a pretty penny.
* PunnyName: Not only are his Pokémon named after currencies, but their nicknames are also all relevant to their characteristics:
** "Daraa" (Alolan Meowth) means sluggish, in addition to standing for Dollar. In English, the name is "Cent" because Sun considers it "so lazy, it's nearly worthless."
** Moon initially assumes "En" (Litten) comes from the Japanese term for blaze. It's also similar to the Japanese "yen". The English explanation for the name hasn't been given.
** "Baht" (Wishiwashi) is the currency of Thailand, and when spelled using Japanese characters, it is similar to the term ''batsu'' (a type of "x" mark used to indicate an incorrect answer). In English, Sun names it "Quarter" because of how the x divides its eye into fourths.
** "Franc" (Mimikyu) is a European currency (primarily French until they switched to the Euro). It also somehow refers to the way Mimikyu's disguise flops around when it's damaged. Its name in English isn't nearly as punny, with Sun choosing "Penny" just as a symbol of good luck.
** "Dong" (Crabominable) is named so for the currency of Vietnam and for a [[TheDon mafia don]] after the way it led a gang of Crabrawler. The English release uses the same mob-boss explanation for the name "Loot".
** "Lei" (Stakataka) comes from the currency of Romania and Moldova, and Sun named it that because in Japanese it in some way relates to its polite personality. In English, Drachma is a Greek currency (the only name in that translation not based in American currency or treasure), and Sun chose the name because he considered the Pokémon "regal" for bowing.
* ThemeNaming: His Pokémon are named after real-world currencies (international ones in Japanese, American ones in English), combined with a pun. It also seemed to be something he took from his late grandfather, since his 3 Alolan Meowth he owned were named Cent, Peso, and [[spoiler: Dollar]]
* ThePollyanna: Moon notes that he's remarkably chipper even after [[spoiler:learning that all the money he earned for 5 years was for nothing and being stuck in the Ultra Deep Sea for six months]].
* ShipTease: With Moon and Lillie.
* YoungEntrepreneur: Aside from his main job of being a delivery boy, he also makes some profit off selling Pyukumuku slime as a cosmetic product to Alolan women.

!!'''Cent (Dollar)'''
Sun's Alolan Meowth. It's normally lazy, but gets active during battle.
* AndThenWhat: [[spoiler:Seems to have a non-verbal version of this after watching Faba be taken by multiple Nihilego.]]
* BerserkButton: Getting its coin dirty.
* BloodKnight: As Sun explains to Moon, its very sluggish outside of battle. [[spoiler: It's subverted, in that its only active in battle to help Sun obtain the money needed to buy back his gransfather's island.]]
* OnlyInItForTheMoney: When Lillie notices that it's walking away instead of fighting Necrozma, Sun explains it was only working with him to get the money to buy back his grandfather's island. Once Faba explained that was impossible, they were only working together up until they escaped Ultra Space, which afterward Cent was free to do whatever it wants.
* HiddenDepths: [[spoiler:The fact that in the last chapter, Cent is with Sun while on his courier job and attacks the other two couriers who carelessly drops their packages, and makes them apologize implies that, despite Sun's belief that they weren't friends, Cent did care for Sun on some level to, at least, come back.]]
* PintSizedPowerhouse: It can throw down powerful Pokémon like Golisopod and Wishiwashi School Form on its own. Justified in that it's level ''59''.
* RevengeBeforeReason: [[spoiler:After Sun returns from Ultra Space, it chooses to go after Faba rather than fight Necrozma along Sun and his other Pokémon.]]
* TragicKeepsake: [[spoiler:Dollar previously belonged to Sun's deceased great-grandfather.]]
* UndyingLoyalty: [[spoiler: Is the only one of the 3 Alolan Meowth to help Sun in his money-earning quest for his grandfather's island.]]
* UnstoppableRage: If its BerserkButton is pressed it flies into a rage. It managed to defeat a Goliospod, which had a Type advantage, once it got mad enough.

!!'''Dollar (En)'''
Sun's Litten that he received from Professor Kukui. It evolve into a Torracat while fighting Tapu Lele alongside Kiawe, Kaihli, and Moon, and later, [[spoiler:evolves into Incineroar while fighting Necrozma in Mount Lanakila]].
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: It doesn't have the best relationship with Cent, with it fighting it whenver they're out together.

!!'''Quarter (Baht)'''
Sun's Wishiwashi. It was originally the Totem Pokémon of Lana's trial but decided to join Sun on his journey.
* AttackItsWeakpoint: Sun wins the trial by having Cent [[StraightForTheCommander directly attack him]] while in Schooling Form, breaking it apart.
* ExoticEyeDesigns: It's x-shaped eyes are the inspiration for Sun's nickname for it.
* MakingASplash: It is Water-type.
* SynchronizedSwarming: Its Schooling ability lets it combine with many other Wishiwashi to become the massive School Form.

!!'''Penny (Franc)'''
Sun's Mimikyu. A Totem Pokémon that Acerola sent Sun to photograph, but Sun wound up provoking it with careless insults. After realizing what he'd done, Sun apologized and offered it a place on his team so that it could go out and meet new people instead of wallowing in loneliness.
* OurFairiesAreDifferent: Fairy is its secondary Type.
* SoulPower: Ghost is its primary Type.

!!'''Loot (Dong)'''
Sun's Crabominable. It originally caused trouble on Poni Island after forming a gang out of the native Crabrawler, until Sun and Hapu confronted it. After Hapu defeated it, it then followed her in hopes that she'd become its trainer, but with her team already full it reluctantly accepted a place on Sun's team instead.
* AnIcePerson: Ice is its secondary Type.
* BareFistedMonk: Fighting is its primary Type.
* EasilyForgiven: Sun has it join its team even when it beat him to a pulp a moment before, as pointed out by Hapu.

!!'''Drachma (Lei)'''
Sun's [[spoiler:Stakataka]].
* DishingOutDirt: Rock is its primary type.
* ExtraOreDinary: Steel is its secondary type.

!!'''Moon'''
!!!The Mixer
->''"Right, I still haven’t introduced myself. I’m Moon, a pharmacist."''
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/moon_11.png]]
The female protagonist of the Sun & Moon saga, she is a pharmacist and a skilled archer from the Sinnoh region.
----
* AdmiringTheAbomination: Abomination is too strong a word, but she geeks out over the cuteness of Poison-Types.
* AfterActionPatchUp: Her skill of medicines comes handy when treating Sun after a battle, as he'll almost always suffer an injury of some sort.
* ArcherArchetype: Is logic-driven and adept at using Poké Balls-tipped arrows. Naturally, she also acquires Alola's resident archer Pokémon.
* ChildProdigy: Revealed to have received a doctorate degree at the mere age of 6, and became a pharmacist at age 10.
* ChronicHeroSyndrome: Tends to immediately help others in need. While her help is generally appreciated, she'll even go out of her way for things that may not have been necessarily asked for.
** She doesn't hesitate to try to save [[spoiler: ''Guzma'', despite him having just unleashed a bunch of Ultra Beasts.]]
** [[spoiler:This is also deconstructed when she immediately went to save Sun with Nebby after he along with Solgaleo got snatched by Necrozma [[SmallStepsHero while there is an Ultra Beast Invasion going on]] which allowed Lusamine to ravage Alola for 6 months.]]
* ComicBookFantasyCasting: She was designed with Creator/BaeDoona's appearance in mind.
* ConnectedAllAlong: Not confirmed, but implied. Early on, she was established as a Sinnoh native who worked with Professor Berlitz. But in the very last panel of ''Sun and Moon'', [[spoiler:she addresses an offscreen sister with an Empoleon, which all together suggests that the sister is in fact Platinum (and, by proxy, the Professor is her father)]].
* DeadpanSnarker: She doesn't mince her words whenever she expresses her frustration at Sun.
* FishOutOfWater: Is new to Alola, and thinks its overall ambiance doesn't suit her character. She's also ignorant to some things like the regional variant types.
* GameplayAndStoryIntegration: As The Mixer, she's the master of items, particularly status healing items.
* GoodThingYouCanHeal: She always seems to run into people and Pokémon that require her medicine, ''especially'' Sun.
* {{Hammerspace}}: Somehow her small shoulder bag can store a regular-sized bow and arrows, a medicine chest, and several changes of clothing.
* InSeriesNickname: Sun calls her "Ms. Customer Package", after their first meeting where he ended up delivering ''her'' to Professor Kukui, and Faba mentions that she was called "Miss Poison" after earning her doctorate for her interest in poisons and Poison-Type Pokémon.
* ItsAllMyFault: Blames herself for a Piplup being poisoned and unable to be cured by normal means.
* JumpedAtTheCall: When Piplup got poisoned and she learned that the ingredients could only be found in Alola at the same time that Rotom arrived and needed to be delivered, she jumped on the chance to go there to retrieve them.
* MadScientist: Seemed to had a stint of this just after earning her doctorate, as Faba mentions she made a poison that melted through a room and tried to experiment in trying to convert any Pokémon into a Poison-Type before she became interested in pharmaceuticals.
* TheMedic: Is quite proud of her skills in pharmacy, stating that there's no medicine she can't make. She also has basic first aid skills and even caught a Grubbin to use its silk for makeshift casts. [[CombatMedic She's also a decent battler, as seen against Gladion.]]
* {{Mukokuseki}}: Averted to a degree. Some readers have agreed that she looks rather distinctly Asian, likely due to the reasons stated below in RaceLift.
* NotSoAboveItAll: She's shown to be an avid fangirl for [[{{Irony}} Poison types]], to the point that [[IdiotHero Sun]] and even ''[[TheStoic Gladion]]'' are surprised.
* OffscreenMomentOfAwesome: When Professor Kukui meets up with Moon and the rest in Konikoni City, Moon's been battling a Totem Lurantis for hours, having taken down several Ally Pokémon in the process,
* OnlySaneMan: Less than a day in Alola and of meeting Sun and she's already exasperated with his antics.
* ThePerfectionist: Soliera accuses her of this when Moon refuses to use Beast Ball on Lusamine, saying that she just doesn't want to ruin her perfect streak.
* PoisonousPerson: She openly adores poison-types. This makes sense, as she's a pharmacist who studies poisons and their antidotes. This also makes her notable among dex holders as she is the '''first''' dex holder to display any sort of type preference (though she only has two, along with two others that aren't poisonous). Sun refers to her as a "poison maiden".
* RaceLift: Implied. While Moon still has her game counterpart's default coloring, Yamamoto stated in a tweet that Moon is modeled after a character played by Korean actress Creator/BaeDoona and going a step further by making her WeaponOfChoice what appears to be a stylized [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gakgung Korean war bow]].
* ShipTease: With Sun, [[CantStandThemCantLiveWithoutThem who she inexplicably worries for and looks after despite being exasperated with him most of the time]], and quite a bit with Gladion.
* SkewedPriorities: In that she can only focus on one at a time. She'll put all her attention on whatever newest problem pops up in front of her, regardless of what she was doing beforehand, even if the older problem is the arguably more important one.
* TheSpock: Slightly. She's normal most of the time, but after she lost to Gladion she realised that his claims about why he won amounted to unscientific concepts like ''luck'' and ''passion''; and she entered a HeroicBSOD over it.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: Notably to Crystal. Both are seemingly sent by a professor for a specific goal, and are both serious about it. However, they both meet and befriend a hotheaded boy, and is tired of their antics. There's even a doodle from Yamamoto [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/x3_3.png addressing this.]]
* TheWatson: Being new to the region and logic-driven, she'd be the first to start questioning everything unique to the region or when something's amiss.

!!'''Decidueye'''
A Pokémon Moon received from Professor Kukui. Evolves into a Dartrix while stranded in Ultra Space. After Moon was rescued by Gladion, it would evolve into Decidueye.

* ArcherArchetype: Becomes this once it becomes Decidueye.
* BlowYouAway: Flying is its secondary type.
* GreenThumb: Grass is its primary type.
* PintsizedPowerhouse: Strong enough to lift both Moon and Mareanie as it flies.
* SoulPower: Once he evolves into Decidueye, its [[BlowYouAway Flying]] Type is replaced by Ghost.

!!'''Charjabug'''
A Pokémon Moon caught as a Grubbin after joining the Iki Town festival tournament. By the time the Trial Captains face off with Team Skull, it has evolved to Charjabug.

* BigCreepyCrawlies: It's a Bug-type.
* ShockAndAwe: Gains an Electric-type upon evolving into Charjabug.

!!'''Mareanie'''
A Pokémon Moon first used in the Iki town festival tournament.

* PoisonousPerson: Poison is its primary type.
* MakingASplash: Water is its secondary type.
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: Only female member on Moon's team.

!!'''Muk'''
An Alolan Grimer Moon first used in the Iki town festival tournament. Evolves into Alolan Muk after being stranded in Ultra Space.

* CombatPragmatist: Dark is its secondary type.
* PoisonousPerson: Poison is its primary type.

!Allies
[[folder: Alola]]

!! '''Professor Kukui'''
The resident professor of Alola. As Masked Royal he takes part in the Full-Force Festival.

* AdaptationalCurves: Thanks to the artist using Wrestling/DwayneJohnson as a reference, Kukui is ''much'' beefier than his other counterparts.
* HappilyMarried: To Professor Burnet.
* MaskedLuchador: As Masked Royal.
* NoShirtLongJacket: He doesn’t wear a shirt under his lab coat. In fact the first thing Moon thinks upon meeting him is how strange this is.

!! '''Hau'''
The grandson of Hala. He takes part in the Full-Force Festival.

* {{Befriending the Enemy}}: [[spoiler: Not necessarily to make him a better person, but [[IntergenerationalFriendship happens to become acquainted with Guzma]].]]
* DemotedToExtra: As a result of the story only using one Island Challenge amulet and Moon taking the role of the Deuteragonist in Sun and Moon/Ultra Sun and Moon, his role in the story is extremely reduced.
* {{Expy}}: His love for Malasada and his relation with Guzma makes him one to Diamond. [[https://64.media.tumblr.com/cc5234b82d73e7889e0fd2815013647c/tumblr_p9vzn4ee001tx9gv9o1_1280.png Yamamoto seems to have picked up on it for Pearl's birthday.]]
* LiteralMinded: When Moon asks him to look after Sun, Hau keeps staring at him for several pages and ''straight into the next chapter''.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Malasada. [[EstablishingCharacterMoment When Olivia comes to bring him one he dives at her and tries to eat them all]].

!! '''Gladion'''
A mysterious trainer first seen participating in the Full Force Festival. He is searching for the Tapus and information on the mysterious wormhole that appeared in the sky.

* ArtificialHuman: Not Gladion himself but rather his Pokémon. Both Type: Null and Porygon are artificial Pokémon. In their Full-Force Battle, Moon guesses that he has an affinity for them like she does for Poison-types.
* BerserkButton: Since he is burdened with so many things he gets angry when he fights people who aren’t fighting for something serious. This is first seen when he learns that Hau isn’t fighting to step out of his grandfather’s shadow but just for fun.
* BigBrotherInstinct: This version of him is considerably more protective and friendly to Lillie. He and Silvally saved her from an attacking Guzzlord, and he later comforted Lillie when they revealed that Aether President Lusamine was their mother.
* CurbStompBattle: Delivers one to Hau with Type: Null in the first round of the Full-Force Festival.
* TheCynic: Has shades of this.
--> '''Gladion''': “It’s fun and I like it”… Pokémon have problems that can’t be solved by thinking like that.
* DoNotCallMeSir: He doesn't like being addressed as "young master," specifically asking Wicke not to do so.
* HeManWomanHater: Although it only seems to extend to women in positions of power, due to the negative experience he had being raised by Lusamine. This is evidenced by the fact that he holds no malice toward Moon, finding her a WorthyOpponent. Additionally, he has a strong BigBrotherInstinct for Lillie.
* IneffectualLoner: Justified in him trying to handle the Ultra Beast problem all by himself. [[spoiler: He wants to take care of the issue before it's exposed to everyone in Alola so that Lusamine isn't framed as the villainess. However, Lillie convinces him that it wouldn't hurt to rely on others, and he starts taking it into heart as seen by with Moon in Aether Paradise.]]
* MadeOfIron: When he and Null are blasted by an Inferno Overdrive Z-Move, Gladion simply laughs it off and calls it a weak attack. Several chapters later he walked away without a scratch after jumping from the rooftop of a two-story mansion. But in Chapter 26 we learn that he sustained serious injuries to his bones, muscles, and internal organs from being exposed to the energy from Silvally's evolution, injuries that still haven't completely healed after six months. Yet this didn't stop him from wanting to go after Lusamine, but Wicke had to order him to stay behind. Although Gladion appears to be completely fine several chapters later, he grabbed on of Turtonator's spikes fired at Moon. Even though his right hand got injured, and he needed Moon to make medicine for him. He was still able to battle Ryuki without much difficulty.
* NotSoStoic: Visibility shocked when Moon showed her love of Poison-types to him.
* MoralityPet: Lillie to Gladion.
* SignatureMon: Type: Null.

!! '''Lillie'''
A girl who was taken in by Professor Burnet. She was first seen being entered into the Full-Force Festival against her will.

* DemotedToExtra: While less so than Hau in that she still plays an important role, it's not nearly as prominent as it was in the games.
* TheIdealist: In contrast to Gladion, she believes it won't hurt to ask help and rely on others.
* TheIdealistWasRight: This seems to be in play for her, where Gladion comes to agree with her belief in relying on others, and she's able to save Lusamine and convince Plumeria to stop her quest for revenge.
* NiceJobFixingItHero: Her leaving Aether Paradise after Gladion worsened Lusamine's already deteriorating mental state, leading her to convincing herself that all her family members have abandoned her.
* {{Pacifist}}: She has never had a Pokémon battle and can’t stand seeing Pokémon hurt each other. When she gets entered into the Full-Force Festival after Nebby jumped out of her bag at an inopportune time she seems pretty much traumatized.
* ShrinkingViolet: She is painfully shy, at least initially.
* TookALevelInBadass: She becomes more confident and bold as the story goes on, [[spoiler: even surprisng Plumeria with a Pokémon of her own.]]
* TraumaButton: Being told that she's beautiful or commenting on her clothes sends her into a panic attack.

!! '''Mallow'''
One of the Trial Captains of Akala Island. Specializes in Grass-types.

* GreenThumb: Specializes in Grass-type Pokémon.
* SmackOnTheBack: She delivers one to Moon after seeing her knowledge of Berries.
* OnlySaneMan: Among the Akala trio.

!! '''Lana'''
One of the Trial Captains of Akala Island. Specializes in Water-types.

* CuteAndPsycho: Despite her cute appearance, she can be ''very'' intimidating and violent, sometimes even with [[PsychoticSmirk a smile on her face.]]
* MakingASplash: Specializes in Water-type Pokémon.
* ShrinkingViolet: In a departure from her game personality, she is very shy. She is constantly blushing and holding her hands together nervously. [[spoiler: Subverted during the Trial and battles, in which she reveals her true, aggressive personality.]]

!! '''Kiawe'''
One of the Trial Captains of Akala Island. Specializes in Fire-types.

* CommonalityConnection: He and Sun bond over the fact that they both work hard to save up money (Sun fin his courier job and Kiawe in his part time job at the Thrifty Megamart). He accepts Sun taking on the Island Challenge because of this.
* PlayingWithFire: Specializes in Fire-type Pokémon.
* SkewedPriorities: He considers going back to his part-time job in the middle of his match with Sun.

!! '''Hala'''
The Kahuna of Melemele Island. Specializes in Fighting-types.

* BarefistedMonk: Specializes in Fighting-type Pokémon.
* TheMentor: Was once one for Guzma.

!! '''Olivia'''
The Kahuna of Akala Island. Specializes in Rock-types.

* BerserkButton: Bringing up her failure in relationships. When Nanu does it in their fight she immediately attempts to use her Z-Move. She also doesn’t like being called old.
* ChristmasCake: [[BerserkButton Do NOT call her old!]]
* DishingOutDirt: Specializes in Rock-type Pokémon.
* ShipperOnDeck: Seems to be one for Sun and Moon.

!! '''Nanu'''
The Kahuna of Ula’Ula Island. Specializes in Dark-types.

* TheCavalryArrivesLate: He arrives at Ula'ula Island to stop the Ultra Beasts, only to discover that they were taken care of by Gladion.
* CombatPragmatist: Specializes in Dark-type Pokémon.
* DeadpanSnarker: He can be pretty scathing when he wants to with plenty of dry wit.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: Him snarking at Olivia during their battle, saying that she has no strategy in battles or relationships, sets up his personality quite nicely.

!! '''Mina'''
* TheSnackIsMoreInteresting: She's seen munching on a spam musubi even while fighting the Ultra Beasts.

!! '''Ryuki'''
* BloodKnight: He came to Alola for the sole purpose of fighting the Ultra Beasts.

!Antagonists
[[folder: Team Skull]]
!! '''Guzma'''
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/faa55aovgaimvud.png]]
The leader of Team Skull.
* AdaptationalEarlyAppearance: He appears in chapter 2 of Sun and Moon arc, while in the games he won't appear until you reach Malie City.
* {{All of the Other Reindeer}}: [[spoiler: It is revealed that rather than just being rejected, Guzma wasn't seen as "normal" by the standards of people in Alola.]]
* {{Foreshadowing}}: [[spoiler:After a brief training, Hau tells Hala that he already met Guzma early on, who treated him to a Tapu Cocoa. It was already implied in chapter 17 that Hau was somewhat acquainted with Guzma.]]
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler: At the end of the arc after he's fully recovered and has had time to reflect his way of life. He even helps Hau in developing recipes for his new shop!]]
* MoralityPet: Despite his demeanor and actions he is shown to generally care about his Pokémon, telling them they did a good job in the battle against Sun, even if they lost.
* PetTheDog: Beyond his care for his Pokémon, he also [[spoiler: was shown to be kind to Hau in the past, stopping his goons from beating him up and even buying him some Tapu Cocoa.]]
* SignatureMon: Golisopod.
* TrappedInAnotherWorld: [[spoiler:Gets dragged through an Ultra Wormhole by Nihilego.]]
* UndyingLoyalty: To Lusamine, [[spoiler: even after his forced trip through an Untra Wormhole [[ScrewThisImOuttaHere unlike his game self]].]]
* UnwittingPawn: [[spoiler:To Lusamine. She gave him a Cosmog to open portals into Ultra Space under the lie they'd obey him, when they instead rage around.]]
* VillainousBreakdown: He does not take his loss to Sun in the Full-Force Festival well, repeatedly bashing his head into the floor. By the time one of the Grunts stops him his head is bleeding pretty badly.

!! '''Plumeria'''
The only admin of Team Skull.
* AntiVillain: She is only villainous out of loyalty to Guzma, [[spoiler: with the worst of her deeds stemming from being manipulated by Faba into thinking Guzma is dead and trying to avenge him.]]
* TheDragon: To Guzma, and later [[spoiler: to Faba.]]
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler: After Lillie shows her that Faba lied and Guzma is still alive.]]
* RevengeBeforeReason: [[spoiler:By Faba's request, she impersonates Moon and tries to kill Lusamine, believing Guzma got killed in Ultra Space.]]
* UndyingLoyalty: She is completely devoted to Guzma.
* VillainHasAPoint: When Lillie tries to tell her how Lusamine isn't so bad of a person, she asks if what she was going to say was that it was only Faba's fault, and points to Lillie herself as one of her victims.

[[/folder]]

[[folder: The Aether Foundation]]
!!Lusamine
Lillie and Gladion's mother and Mohn's wife, and the leader of the Aether Foundation.
* AdaptationalVillainy: Lusamine in the manga is even worse than her vanilla ''Sun/Moon'' counterpart, being physically and emotionally abusive to Lillie to the point where she's traumatized. [[spoiler:Zig-zagged once it's revealed that it's unquestionably a result of Nihilego's toxins affecting her mind, and that Faba manipulated her into becoming this way.]]
* AffablyEvil: Unlike her game counterpart, her soft, motherly behavior is not just a facade. Whether she's unleashing the Ultra Beasts on Alola or forcing Lillie to change her outfit, she's always sporting a sweet smile. [[spoiler:Until she fuses with Nihilego, that is.]]
* BigBad: Of the ''Sun & Moon'' arc [[spoiler: until it's revealed to actually be Faba.]]
* CompositeCharacter: Basically what you get if you take her ''Sun and Moon'' personality alongside her Mother Beast form and put it into ''Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon'' story. She cooperates with Ultra Recon Squad, but only because she thinks Necromza would be a better child for her than Lillie.
* HeelFaceTurn: Once Lillie [[spoiler:tells her that Mohn didn't abandon her, all of her sanity snaps back before her falling comatose]].
* MoodSwinger: She can go from cheerful to sad to angry disturbingly quick. [[spoiler:Gets worse after she fuses with Nihilego.]]
* VillainHasAPoint: Despite her goal of capturing Necrozma ultimately being that of selfishness, she argues to Phyco that they can't leave it to the Ultra Recon Squad due to their lack of experience catching and raising an Ultra Beast.

!!Faba
The Branch Chief of the Aether Foundation who possesses great ambitions of his own.
* AdaptationalVillainy: This Faba is far more vile than the one present in the games or anime at their worst, as he [[spoiler: is actually ''responsible'' for Mohn's disappearance through an Ultra Wormhole because he desired Lusamine's love for himself, and when she still rejected him he made sure she was led down a path of self-destructive behavior so that he can have the Aether Foundation for himself as revenge. As the arc goes on, he ultimately resorts to trying to have Lusamine outright ''killed'' when it looks like she might recover her sanity.]]
* AdaptationRelationshipOverhaul: In this continuity, [[spoiler:he is in love with Lusamine and started his EvilPlan after she rejected his advances. He has no such feelings toward her in the games.]]
* BigBad: [[spoiler: He is ultimately revealed to be the ''true'' human villain of the ''Sun & Moon'' arc, as all of the story's primary conflicts stem directly from his selfish and corrupt actions.]]
* BlatantLies: He made a promise with Sun that he [[spoiler:wouldn't touch his grandfather's island if Sun buys it from him later, making Sun go on his quest to collect 100 million yen. Then builds Aether Paradise on it anyway.]]
* TheChosenOne: He claims that he's this to Plumeria when seeing that everything's coming together for him.
* ConnectedAllAlong: [[spoiler: Him pushing Mohn into the Ultra Wormhole subsequently led to Sun's great grandfather's island being seized by the Aether foundation and Sun starting his money-earning quest.]]
* DraggedOffToHell: [[spoiler: At the end of the arc, Nihilego grab him and drag him off to Ultra Deep Sea.]]
* IfICantHaveYou: [[spoiler: His primary motivation in his vendetta against Lusamine is that she spurned his advances after he caused Mohn's disappearance.]]
* LaserGuidedKarma: Faba [[spoiler:pushed Mohn through an Ultra Wormhole and manipulated Lusamine to a path of self-destruction which led to her being affected by Nihilego's toxins. Faba would later be brought away to Ultra Deep Sea via an Ultra Wormhole at the end of the ''Sun and Moon'' arc and injected by the same toxins]].
* TheManInFrontOfTheMan: [[spoiler:While Lusamine is still the President, it's actually him who calls the shots]].
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: [[spoiler:Once things start to look hot for him, he hires Ryuki to distract Gladion while he runs away to another region. Unfortunately for him, he didn't manage to escape.]]
* VillainsWantMercy: [[spoiler:Being threatened by Sun's Meowth, he tries to give away the island like he promised, only to be taken by a group Nihilego]].
