This is more evident in "Something Zalgo This Way Comes", where it's established that the only reason his henchmen follows him is that they're either brainwashed or afraid of being tortured or killed. Shadowlurker only follows him out of fear, and X only uses Zalgo's resources as means to take over new universes. All the characters of the comic voice their open dislike of him — the Proxies, the Human World, several members of the Epsilon Cult, including Epsilon himself, Enderman, the Rake, and even '''Malitch'''. This is a mix of general principle and also the matter that he caused the near fall of the Monster race, as well as a distaste for exactly how he caused it. The only beings that seem to like Zalgo are the demonic monsters he plans to unleash on the multiverse.

* AxCrazy: Hands down one of the craziest in the comic. ''Hands down''. He's a sadistic, sociopathic and demonic tyrant who has gleefully destroyed millions of planets by massacring the inhabitants and enslaving the survivors, all ForTheEvulz. His EvilPlan involves merginging the entire multiverse just to turn it into a literal hellhole, and he has murdered millenniums' worth of his own children that failed to live up to his expectations. He's a psycho through and through, and he is a MoodSwinger who can switch between the "cold and calculating" type of insane and the "overtly insane and LaughingMad" variety.

* BigBad: Specifically of the Zalgo saga. In general, he's easily the most powerful, dangerous and {{overarching villain}} in the series.

* ColdBloodedTorture: Does this regularly to his henchmen, purely for fun. [[spoiler:He also inflicts ElectricTorture on Laughing Jack in "The Chain Mail".]]

* DarkMessiah: Zalgo has legions of fanatic followers in both the Under Realm and the Human World, all of whom believe him to be a benevolent god.

* HateSink: Zalgo seems to have been made with the intention of being as hated and despicable as possible. He's a sadistic, tyrannical dictator who loves to inflict pain and suffering on others ([[WouldHurtAChild children included]]), and while most villains usually have some form of a redemption arc or are at least LaughablyEvil, he continuously refuses to be redeemed [[UngratefulBastard even when given mercy]]. He lacks any kind of {{Evil Virtues}}, being lazy, spoiled, a dirty fighter, not particularly smart, and wanting only his own gratification. And while most irredeemable main villains are MadeOfEvil, he doesn't even have the excuse of being born evil (his species is not exclusively demonic and his henchmen have a moral agency). He's this in-universe as well, as practically everyone who knows about him despises him, [[EvenEvilHasStandards even other scumbags like Enderman]]. Arguably his most heinous action is in the "Legends of the Multiverse" five-parter, where he [[spoiler: murders the Unwanted House Guest and his girlfriend, enslaves the entire multiverse, destroys reality itself, and taunts Lara using her deceased brother as an alternate form. It's an incredibly satisfying moment when Shadowlurker finally kills him.

* HellOnEarth: [[spoiler: After he absorbs both Slenderman and the Multiverse crystals and becomes one with the Multiverse and begins corrupting other timelines, he ends up transforming the Earth into the decimated, fiery wasteland no different than the Pit while becoming a sky full of cackling Zalgo heads. It's also implied that this is happening to every single planet in the Multiverse as well.]]

** He murdered Slenderman's mother by making her die an old slave simply because she wanted to protect Slenderman from Zalgo's abuse.

* SelfMadeOrphan: He murdered his mother and father by burning them to death in the bowels of the Pit. He also killed his sister and uncle. He also mused over murdering his brother, Sexual Offenderman, just cuz.

* {{Troll}}: He makes it clear that he has fun messing with people just for the sole purpose of doing it.
* TyrantTakesTheHelm: When he becomes ruler of the Pit (not that the previous rulers were saints).

* TheUsurper: Murdered his parents (and many, many more) to become ruler of the Pit.

* WouldHurtAChild:
** For starters, he was horribly abusive to Slenderman during his youth.

* AliensAreBastards: They make a habit out of invading planets and twisting them into their likeness.

* DivineConflict: The Great Monster War against Aton, which they lost.

* LastBulletBreath: [[spoiler: In "Legends of the Multiverse Part 4" he uses the last of his strength after being mortally gored by Slenderman to absorb Slenderman's power. Following that, he uses Slenderman's power to warp the entire multiverse.]]

* PlanetEater: One of the planets Zalgo and his forces had attacked has a massive bite taking out of it. Do with that as you will.

* MultiversalConquerer: Its ultimate goal is to corrupt the entire multiverse.

* AliensAreBastards: Quite a few of them were aliens from different worlds enslaved by Zalgo.

* AxCrazy: They ''literally'' cannot be reasoned with.
* BatmanCanBreathInSpace: As seen when they [[spoiler: invade Earth flying through space]].

* EliteMooks: Zalgo's Inquisitors, the Demon Cerebus, and Cthulu.

* CurbStompBattle: Deals them out like candy to X, Mr. Widemouth, Alice Liddel, the list goes on. A more downplayed example happened in his fight with Aton's Elite. He utterly wipes the floor with Toog, Speedy, and Jil'nor, but Hera and especially Cronos prove to be a challenge.

* DealWithTheDevil: He has made deals with billions of people, and all of them have ended in the dealer suffering a horrible fate. For example, Alice Liddel made a deal with Zalgo - in return for a way out of Wonderland and returning home to her family, she would have the sacrifice one of her family members. When she refused to give up her father's soul (which, of course, he knew would happen), Zalgo cursed her with immortality and forced her to live in a twisted version of Wonderland (now dubbed Underland) for the rest of her life.

* EvilGloating: In "To Proxy Mountain", [[spoiler: Zalgo spends the entire special bragging about his success and how deeply he has corrupted Eyeless Jack and his impending victory over the universe. As it turns out, Zalgo was counting his chickens before they hatched.]]

** Lara's complete antithesis. Lara is a middle-class teenage girl; Zalgo is a wealthy demonic alien. Lara is introspective; Zalgo is flamboyant. Lara acts on impulse; Zalgo is a chessmaster. Lara is associated with the color green and orange; Zalgo loves coating himself in black and red. Lara is secretive and humble in her heroic duties, while Zalgo brags about his achievements. Zalgo is not above victimizing his own allies to get what he wants; Lara is willing to give her own life to save and protect others.
** Also serves as one to [[GodOfGood Aton]]. Aton believes life to be beautiful, Zalgo views life as meaningless. Aton views the citizens of the universe as flawed, yet beautiful creatures, Zalgo views them as creatures who solely exist to be toyed with and slaughtered. Aton is an all-powerful GodOfGood, Zalgo is an omnipotent GodOfEvil. Aton rules over the heavenly and beautiful Overworld, Zalgo dominates over the hellish and disgusting Pit. Aton commands an army of angels, Zalgo commands an army of the tortured. Even their signature colors, [[GoldAndWhiteAreDivine white and gold]] and [[RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver red and black]] conflict each other.

* HiddenDepths: As revealed in "Legends of the Multiverse", Zalgo turns out to be a master of hand-to-hand combat.

* RealityWarping: To the point where he turned a ''planet'' into a giant gold coin. He was also the one that turned Wonderland into the twisted wasteland it is now. "Legends of the Multiverse" has him using this power to a much more pragmatically. [[spoiler: He turns Slenderman's projectile attacks into stuffed animals, turns an entire army into stone statues, turns Hoodie, Ducky, and Masky into a decretive blanket, turns Smile Dog into a chew toy, Bush into a wooden decoy duck, and turns Speedy into a fish.]]
