A ex-student forcibly enlisted into the Soukaiya by Sonic Boom. He used to go to the same school as Koki Yamoto, living in quiet isolation from the rest of his peers while enduring his classmates' daily bullying. One day, he finally had enough and tried to end his life by jumping off the highest school building, only to land headfirst onto an unassuming Yamoto and causing both of them to suffer near-death experiences... which, in turn, led to their respective ninja souls taking possession of their bodies. As a Syndicate recruit, Shogo is given the (appropriate) codename of "Suicide", having bonded with the soul called Punk Ninja.

Gendoso's granddaughter, a young kunoichi who takes a liking to Ninja Slayer. She becomes one of his few, cherished friends after starting his new life as a vigilante, helping him with his ninjutsu training. [[spoiler:At some point, she loses all her memories and starts going by the alias, "Amnesia."]]

* TheAtoner: All but outright states this to be his main reason for helping Yamoto. After a lifetime of amorality & selfishness, Tanaka wants to spend his few remaining days doing good for a change. In the dub version, he claims otherwise, by the tone of his voice suggests he's just trying hard not to admit it outright.

* HeelRealization: He already became aware of that fact long ago, but simply chose to [[IgnoredEpiphany ignore his conscience]] and went along with his day-to-day amoral activities with nary a complaint. Then comes the moment when he suddenly finds himself [[YourDaysAreNumbered running on short time]], and Karasu, perhaps in desperation, at last does what he previously never gave a serious thought to: perform a genuine act of altruism.

* TheUnfettered: At first, he doesn't seem all that bothered about the amoral nature of his job even at the prospect of dying, but it is heavily implied that he's just in denial. He [[HeelRealization fully comes to terms with his sins]] by the end of Episode 14.

* HypercompetentSidekick: His very first line is to call Forest a "pathetic leader", and the shoe fits. It comes to the point where it's easy to mistake Frogman as the ''true'' guy in charge -- actually keeping a tight, no-nonsense focus on the group's objectives, unlike his error-prone, [[ShellShockedVeteran unstable]] "boss."
* KnowWhenToFoldEm: He's able to convince Ninja Slayer into what Sawatari could not -- a "no fight" clause -- which allows him and the rest of the Survivor's chance to escape. Taking Slayer's silence as a "Yes", he does that one thing any smart ninja should do when being confronted by "The Machine of Vengeance." '''Run like hell'''.

* EnemyMine: You'd think this would be the case, except "Captain" Forest here ''blew it'' on their first encounter. Thanks to his FatalFlaw, any chance the Survivors had of forming an alliance with Ninja Slayer right then and there took a resounding nosedive. Double-subverted when this finally gets played straight in Episode 21, when Slayer (reluctantly) teams up with Sawatari to get rid of the Soukaiya's [[KillerRobot Motor Dokuros]].

* VillainousFriendship: Unlike the Soukaiya, these guys actually seem to care for one another, as shown by Frogman's timely rescue of his teammates. Forest also expresses concern for Notorious when he begins to show signs of bio-deficiency withdrawal.

* EnemyMine: You'd think this would be the case, except "Captain" Forest here ''blew it''. Thanks to his FatalFlaw, any chance of the Survivors forming an alliance with Ninja Slayer has gone up in flames.

Two mysterious, odd-looking mechanical creatures who claim to be following the "will of destiny." Tortoise sees into the "future" whereas Crane recalls the "past."

* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: His failed attempt at self-destruction brought about a chain of events that started in Yamoto's own ninja soul possession - ending with the Syndicate marking her for death. Later on, he tries to make amends by defending her from Sonic Boom... with disastrous results.

* TheWorfEffect: A capable fighter on his own right, but proves no match for Sonic Boom as a testament of the the latter's power & superiority.

* FullBodyDisguise: He assumes a completely different appearance when out scouting, but rips the disguise once confronting his targets.

* ArrogantKungFuGuy: Sonic Boom never stops bragging about his self-perceived "greatness" in martial arts, taunting any "puny weakling" he runs into while pummeling them to a bloody pulp. All that changes once he comes face-to-face with Ninja Slayer, who brutalizes him in kind before his much deserved death.
* BarbaricBully: He may be a fully grown man, but he acts like that neighborhood punk who thinks he can push around all those smaller than him without suffering any consequences, beating people up like a savage animal. Then he meets a ''much'' [[AlwaysSomeoneBetter bigger fish]], and before he knows it, his smug, fragile ego comes crashing down faster than he can say "YEEART!"

* TheDreaded: He seems to have garnered an infamous reputation among other ninjas for his bullish ruthlessness. Even after being long gone, his name's still recognized by the likes of Silver Karasu.

Combining their hatred and lust for revenge, the duo become collectively known as Ninja Slayer, "The Machine of Vengeance," and bane of all evil doers.
