** Also to Kakashi. For over twenty years, Guy has been the one true constant in Kakashi's life, devotedly staying at his side even when Kakashi tried to push him away. When it becomes clear that [[spoiler: Madara is going to kill]] his two most important people -- Kakashi and Lee -- Guy doesn't hesitate to throw open the [[TurnsRed Eighth Gate]] to protect them.

* FeelsNoPain: Subverted, then played straight. When using the Eighth Gate, he cracks one of his arms' bones just readying a punch for part of his ''Hirudora'', remarking upon the unimaginable pain that comes with said Gate... only to immediately follow that up with the statement that he's acclimated to the pain after that, allowing him to power through it to beat Madara blue and yellow. Perhaps justified, because his blood was literally catching on fire ''after it boiled through his skin'' by that point. His nerves were probably shot to hell.

** Downplayed in the anime, which shows her being perfectly competent in filler.stand-alone episodes where she is the focus character. During the Shinobi War arc, she even destroys two of ''Kakuzu'''s hearts because she found a legendary weapon that was dropped by a defeated enemy. [[note]]In the manga, she is only able to destroy Kakuzu's Lightning-element mask before collapsing due to the Bashōsen's high chakra absorption.[[/note]]

* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Constantly going on about the power of youth and getting ignored by his "lifelong rival" Kakashi. Most of the time, people are either creeped out by him or laughing at him, because he's just that ridiculous. At the same time, he's also the foremost taijutsu user of Konoha, can use at least [[DeadlyUpgrade Seven Gates]] without suffering anything more than a severe winding, and trained ''Rock Lee'' into a badass. He's one of the strongest characters in the series to the point where even a smug asshole like [[spoiler: [[WorldsStrongestMan Madara Uchiha]]]] acknowledged him as a WorthyOpponent, even though [[spoiler:Madara]] was at the ''pinnacle'' of his strength after becoming [[spoiler:the Ten-Tails' Jinchuuriki]]. In fact, he doesn't lose a fight onscreen until near the end of the series (when he has to be saved from Madara, despite coming very close to killing him); the one time before this that he lost was in a flashback to his Chunin Exams match against Kakashi.

* ThreeAmigos: All the teams of the Konoha 12 in the series follow this layout for some arbitrary reason or another.

* FightsLikeANormal: Unlike Rock Lee, Guy actually can use ninjutsu and genjutsu but he simply chooses not too. He's a fantastic taijutsu specialist and considered one of the strongest people in the Leaf Village in spite of his self-imposed limitation.

* HardWorkHardlyWorks: Most triumphant example in the series. While considerably powerful, one of the strongest in his age group, and leagues above where he was originally, his accomplishments pretty much just serve to further emphasize, and utterly pale in comparison to the power-ups that all of the series' strongest characters either have inherently, or are just randomly given.

* SenpaiKohai: Lee, Neji, and Tenten graduated from the Academy a year prior to the start of the series and as a result are a year older than the rest of Konoha 12. However, they don't get referred to as "sempai" by their juniors, since they enter the Chunin Exams together.

* WorldsStrongestMan: As far as taijutsu goes, no one comes even close to him. Even a StoryBreakerPower user like Madara acknowledges it. This is notable as he is the ''only'' character to do any significant damage to him in a straight fight.

* AlwaysSecondBest: In regards to Kakashi, who handed him his first major defeat when they took the Chunin Exams together, and regularly loses to him after that (in rock-paper-scissors). [[spoiler: Subverted when he opens his Eighth Gate and Kakashi realises that his father's prediction about Guy surpassing him has come true.]]

* SwissArmyWeapon: In the movie, his new weights are composed of several metal bars that he can assemble into a staff, Nunchaku and a [[WhipItGood Chain Whip]].

* JapaneseHonorifics: Uses them on everyone except his teammates.

* FunnyBruceLeeNoises: He makes a lot of noises when he fights. Somewhat understandable given how Lee was inspired by Bruce Lee.

* GenerationXerox: Intentional. He modeled himself after Guy after Guy became his teacher. In the Epilogue, he's training with [[spoiler: his son, Metal Lee, who looks nearly identical to him]].

* MeaningfulName: While the Lee part of his name is an obvious reference to Bruce Lee, his first name is a more subtle reference, the reason why his first name is Rock is because Bruce is pronounced the same way as blues in Japanese and his son Metal continues this theme as they are all three genre of music.

* {{Determinator}}: A major part of his ethos is that dedication to one's goal will allow them overcome whatever obstacles stand in their way. The anime shows that his version of Kakashi's Bell test is meant to evaluate the genins' guts. Team Guy passed when they persisted in trying to fight him after being beaten into the ground. ''[[LightNovel/NarutoHiden Kakashi Hiden]]'' reveals that even after [[spoiler:permanently breaking his leg in his battle against Madara]], he's able to rehabilitate himself to the point that he can even [[spoiler:get off his wheelchair]] and fight when need be, despite the pain it causes to his bad leg.

* BreakingSpeech: Tries this on Hinata and Naruto, saying there is no point in struggling against what you were born to do; [[KirkSummation both of them turn it back on him by pointing out that]] [[NotSoDifferentRemark he ''is'' doing exactly that]].

* AlwaysSecondBest: The main reason for his tendency to fall under the WorfEffect, as mentioned below. He's not weak, far from it -- he just ends up fighting people who are stronger than he is. He mentions this in his backstory by pointing out that despite all his work to try and beat Neji, HardWorkHardlyWorks.

* CantHoldHisLiquor: The smallest sip of alcohol will send Lee into a drunken frenzy of kung fu. It's actually enough to make him a match for Kiminaro, the most powerful of the Sound Four, holding out long enough for Gaara to arrive as backup.
