* RedEyesTakeWarning: Downplayed; Sumaru may be a bit haughty and aloof in general, but he's not a villain. His red eyes are reminiscent of a lullaby his mother, Natushi, sung to him in his younger days. It is one of the few things that can bring him comfort.

* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: Stands up for Sumaru and Natsuhi despite knowing that the latter is a rogue ninja and that she'll be branded as such by Akahoshi if she does.

* ATwinkleInTheSky: By the end of their episode, the real Guy and Lee return and witness their fakes without context. They’re charged and sent blasting off like [[Anime/{{Pokemon}} Team Rocket]]. Tenten compares their send off akin to fireworks.

* DarkAndTroubledPast: Lost his parents at an early age, got adopted by a clan who could give a rat's ass about him personally, and was made to participate in a village raid for gold which got dozens of innocents killed. Yep, we've got a winner.

* RapePillageAndBurn: His clan's modus operandi for dealing with anyone who stands in their way. One of them kills Fuki's father in cold blood and would've done the same to her had Menma's conscious not kicked in.

* EvilGloating: Tells Natsuhi and Naruto that he murdered the Third Hoshikage for refusing to allow the star training and later gleefully admits so to the entire village under the justification that it was the only way to save their village. [[RealityEnsues It immediately blows up in his face.]]

* MilesGloriosus: Zigzagged. On one hand, he tries to [[DirtyCoward retreat]] from a battle with Natsuhi and has to use Sumaru to get her to back down, later using Naruto as a distraction to get a shot in. Later, however, upon using his allies' chakra to strengthen his own, he is shown to be a more-or-less competent, if not dirty, fighter.

* IveComeTooFar: Invokes this on his lackeys by saying that they've stained their hands and stopping now wouldn't absolve them of their criminal activities...being the ones who murdered the Third Hoshikage.

* DeceasedParentsAreTheBest: Sumaru believes that his parents died protecting the Star when he was a child and strives to be strong enough to protect the village as they did. He eventually finds out that they tried to steal the star to protect the village from its harmful effects. Turns out his mother isn't dead at all...at least until the end of the story.

* NoNameGiven: He is only ever referred to by his title of "Lord Hoshikage" by the other Hoshi-nin.

* OnlySaneMan: The only one of his village to recognize that the star training wasn't worth the high death toll and banned it. Everything went to hell when Akahoshi unsuccessfully attempted to change his mind and killed him for it, none of the other Hoshi-nin being the wiser.

Shira is a highly experienced Taijutsu user who wasn't a Shinobi because he couldn't use Genjutsu and/or Ninjutsu, until Gaara reformed his father's laws. He goes into the 2nd Chunnin Exam with his team where he wants as possible as Sand Ninja to graduates. He meets and befriends Rock Lee (whose similarity is not lost on him.), and so skilled that he became Gaara's trainer in Taijutsu.

* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: He can be consider one to Rock Lee. While Shira work hard in a similar fashion to Lee, the former's Taijutsu abilities are entirely self-taught and he manages to overwhelm Lee for a brief time in their fight. He was also able to NoSell Neji's "Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms"[[note]]It's should be noted that each set of the strikes is done at an exponentially increasing pace and strength, with the attack not only disables the enemy but also knocks them back with every set of strikes.[[/note]], while Lee is never shown to be able to successfully defend against any of the latter's attacks.

* {{Hunk}}: Shira possesses a muscular scuplted build combined with his good looks and rugged scars make him a hunk

* WorfHadTheFlu: Due to his previous injuries, Shinra wasn't able to use his Taijutsu to its fullest extent against Rock Lee.

* CompressedHair: Somehow she's able to fit her waist-length hair into that nobleman's cap just by putting it up. Averted with her Cursed Warrior guise where she uses the helmet to cover up her hair already down.

* SurvivorGuilt: Never outright stated, but its heavily implied that her despair at being the only one left of her house when Sagi and Ōwashi died so suddenly played a big part in why she became the way she did. It takes Sagi contacting Naruto to pass a message from the afterlife that her life has meaning in restoring her homeland and getting her to move past her loss.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: She's compared to Koyuki Kazahana from ''[[Anime/NarutoTheMovieNinjaClashInTheLandOfSnow Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow]]'', but there are significant differences in how they reacted to their loved ones' demises:
** Toki wanted to restore her house's honor and take vengeance on her family's killer to the point of obsession whereas Koyuki initially had no desire to ever return to her old home after being forced to flee from it when her father got assassinated.
** Toki's covering up her supposed death was more layered with her masquerading as her late brother as well as the apparition known as the Cursed Warrior to the point no one even considered it was her[[note]]Chishima later stated that he had a weak hunch though[[/note]] in contrast to Koyuki using a mere alias to get by, her identity only known to her manager Sandayū who had served her before the coup d'etat.
** Toki's family situation went south due to outside influence (Hōki and his Watari ninja) whereas Koyuki's tragedy was due to her own flesh and blood, namely that her uncle led a coup d'etat against her father.
** The biggest is in how they dealt with living in the face of loss. Toki intended to die after getting revenge from the moment she lost her loved ones due to the pain of being left alone. By contrast, Koyuki was afraid of putting her life at risk period due to her having no confidence in ever restoring the Land of Snow from her uncle's tyrannical rule. Its only thanks to Naruto that the latter decided to make an attempt on Dotō's life, which failed due to his chakra armor.

* ForcefulKiss: After Naruto rejects her offer to share a kiss she tries to force a kiss on him several times. She successfully kisses him three different times, but none of them completely work out for her for various reasons.

** Second, she immobilizes the real Naruto during their fight and successfully kisses him and begins draining his chakra. After awhile though she absorbs chakra from the Nine-Tails and can't handle it due to it being too "evil" and she shoves Naruto away, returning his chakra to him.

* HealingFactor: She can survive direct hits from Naruto's Rasengan and heals a scratch Naruto gave her almost instantly. [[spoiler: In reality, she's actually just switching between bodies that were hurt, and bodies that weren't. The bodies that she was using when injured stayed injured (or killed in some cases), and she gives away her trick by not using certain combos and switching back to her injured water chakra body during her fight with Naruto.]]

* TakeThatKiss: She forces several kisses on Naruto to steal his chakra and mockingly flirts with him during their fights
** The biggest example is their second kiss, where after she immobilizes him with a paralysis jutsu she tells him it is time for them to share a "nice hot kiss" and as payment for it she'll take his soul. She then takes a moment to get comfortable with him by cuddling with him, and forcing him to look into her eyes by holding him by his cheeks and chin even as he is visibly sweating with fear. After giggling to herself she leans in and locks lips with Naruto, and has a look of victory present in her eyes the whole time.

* TakenForGranite: Her paralysis jutsu can turn her victims legs to stone until she wants otherwise.

* VillainBall: She grabs it during her second fight with Naruto. After she knocks him out and has him at her mercy she could have finished him off anyway she wanted to, but upon remembering his chakra is wind natured she decided to kiss him once again to stock up. This does sound fairly reasonable, but two things end up making her fall into this trope:
** One: She already kissed him in her previous fight and tried to drain his chakra, but failed because she ended up absorbing the chakra from the Nine-tails too and could't handle the "evil chakra." Apparently she either forgot about this incident or thought the Fox was just passing through.

A kunoichi and member of a team of grave robbers. She is part of Furido's team, working to destroy the Hidden Leaf Village. Fuuka is capable of using all five elemental styles of jutsu, and stealing her enemy's chakra with a kiss. She really hates it when her hair is messed with.

* AttackItsWeakPoint: [[spoiler:Her long flowing red hair is her weak point. It is the source of her power, being where she stores all her alternative bodies she has stolen chakra from, and if her hair is cut or damaged in anyway then one or more of her stored bodies will die. When Naruto cuts a small part off in their first fight her body ages drastically and turns to dust, and during their second fight he yanks off a large chunk of her hair, revealing her true ugly form.]]
* AwkwardKiss: PlayedWith during her first kiss with Naruto. She forces a passionate kiss on him with the intent of killing him. But after several seconds of making out with him she realizes nothing has happened and the two of them awkwardly look into each others eyes while giving confused groans. She quickly realizes Naruto tricked her into kissing one of his Shadow Clones, and since he can feel what his clones feel it is like he tricked her into sharing a ''real'' kiss with him.
* BerserkButton: She goes ballistic if anyone cuts or damages her hair in anyway, calling it "her life" and "most important feature." This is actually justified since it is revealed [[spoiler:her hair is the source of all her power, since it stores all her alternate bodies she has stolen chakra from.]]

* DoubleEntendre: Her flirting is filled with these, hinting at several sexual offers to both lure Naruto in and emphasize her sadistic side. She often talks about how older woman have "more experience" than young boys like Naruto, or how she wants to teach Naruto "the mysteries of the female body".
* EasilyForgiven: Averted with her flirting towards Naruto. After Naruto cuts her hair she goes ballistic and screams that he will pay for it before using a paralysis jutsu to turn his legs to stone. She seems to immediately calm down and gently tells Naruto it is time for them to finally share a "nice hot kiss" together like she wanted, as if she has suddenly forgiven him for what he has done and simply wants to kiss and make up with him. However, it immediately becomes clear this isn't what she is suggesting when she darkly adds that she'll take his soul as payment for the kiss, before violently grabbing his shoulders to stop him from struggling.

* IGaveMyWord: Promises the otherwise corrupt minister that he'll dissolve the Wasabi due to Idate seemingly bailing at the start of the race. The Daimyō makes sure he doesn't have to follow through.

* {{Determinator}}: 596-03 is able to resist, albeit collapse immediately afterward, Naruto's Sexy Jutsu enough to deliver the manuscript to the Land of Fangs successfully. Naruto admits that the guy is strong-willed. Their unit as a whole count as they're quick to mobilize against a [[WorldsStrongestMan Sannin]] of all people to retrieve a stolen package, even if the said package contains the wrong items.

* RapePillageAndBurn: The clan's modus operandi for dealing with anyone who stands in their way. One of them kills Fuki's father in cold blood and would've done the same to her had Menma's conscious not kicked in.

* TeensAreMonsters: Ryūgan is just as arrogant and jerkish as his teammates, despite only being in his early to mid-teens.

* YoureInsane: The other Artisan shinobi thought so, electing to desert their village after they discovered the plot upon them robbing Seimei's tomb.

* WhatTheHellHero?: When Naruto calls her out on working for Orochimaru and using Yuukimaru, she attempts one of these, by reversing it to him and Konoha, saying that the village that created a jinchuriki out of the Nine-Tails, has no right to preach against them trying to do the same. Naruto has none of it however, revealing that he is the jinchuriki in question.

* MeaningfulName: His name means “white crested waves” which is a Japanese euphemism for “thief”.

* [[FillerVillain Filler Villains]]: They serve as the Ultimate Weapon filler arc's primary threat, with Hōki looking to be the final boss. Turns out he isn't

In truth, "Mōsō" is really Hōki, ruthless leader of the Watari (or "wandering") ninja who wants his group to settle in the Land of Birds by killing off their royal house and taking the position of daimyō to smooth over their moving in. He wormed his way into the court by using genjutsu to convince the previous daimyō Ōwashi that he possessed special powers and over time fatally poisoned the poor man, eventually doing the same to his daughter Toki. Now only Ōwashi's son and the current daimyō Sagi remains in Hōki's path, or so he thinks...

* MusicalAssassin: His flute melody, like Tayuya before him, can cause paralysis genjutsu though his is not nearly as powerful as Menma counteracted it with his ocarina.

* RightForTheWrongReasons: After the palace collapses due to his daimyō's actions, he rightly assumes that the person who's committing these harsh actions isn’t Sagi. What he’s mistaken on is that “Sagi” is being possessed by the late Ōwashi as the reason for “his” change in behavior. The real reason? The Sagi we’ve seen up to this point is really the younger sister Toki acting as her brother. The actual Sagi is the sibling who died six months after their father passed.
