An earth pony who works at Mane Melody.

* ADayInTheLimelight: She's the focus of the ''TYT'' episodes "All That Jazz", "Baby Critters Club", and "Jazz Loves Rocky".
* BadlyBatteredBabysitter: In "Baby Critters Club", she is hired to look after the critters at the Brighthouse while the Mane Five are away. She spends most of the short running around and desperately trying to keep the critters under control.
* CompetitionFreak: In "Nightmare on Mane Street", she and Rocky get ''really'' competitive with each other over finding the Golden Pumpkin hidden somewhere in Maretime Bay.
* CreativeSterility: In "All That Jazz", she confesses that the hooficures she gives ponies are based on an online library of designs, which causes her to panic when she uses them all up. Izzy helps her to gain the creativity to make her own designs.
* MeaningfulName: She's a singer whose name references {{Jazz}} music.
* OfficialCouple: She and Rocky become this in the appropriately titled Tell Your Tale episode "Jazz Hearts Rocky".
* PromotedFangirl: As revealed in the Pippcast, she was a major fan of Pipp's music before getting her job at Mane Melody.
* SeriesContinuityError: In the Pippcast, she states she was a fan of Pipp since childhood despite the tribes being fearful/prejudiced against each other and having no contact in memory. While it would make sense that Jazz's exaggerating, the work never hints if that's the case.

* HiddenDepths: "The Manesquerade Ball" shows him to be a fairly skilled DJ.
* MeaningfulName: His first name references the {{Rock}} music genre, while his surname is a nod to a ''guitar'' riff.
* OfficialCouple: He and Jazz become this in the appropriately titled Tell Your Tale episode, "Jazz Hearts Rocky".
* SatelliteCharacter: He never shows up without Jazz Hooves or them interacting at least as co-worker, contrasting Jazz who has appeared solo and even had focus episodes.

A baby dragon introduced in the ''Make Your Mark'' special. He hatches from an egg that Hitch finds on the beach.
Creator/MichaelMcKean (film), Creator/RobertTinkler (series)

Sunny's father, a researcher who studies ancient Equestria.

* BrainyBaby:
** Despite acting like an infant most of the time, he's able to set up a series of ''Film/HomeAlone''-style traps when Misty tries to kidnap him in "Have You Seen This Dragon?".
** In "Roots of All Evil Pt. 2", Sparky has the presence of mind to [[spoiler:cure Spike's brainwashing when Opaline is distracted, and is able to wield the Dragonstone effectively to reverse her abuse of its magic]].
* BreakingOldTrends: He's the first time the series dragon character isn't a version of Spike.
* ContrastingSequelMainCharacter: Sparky is an actual baby dragon, unlike the previous dragon protagonist Spike who was merely treated like a baby because of his size, despite being around the same age as the Cutie Mark Crusaders and just as mature.
* DragonsAreDinosaurs: If his flashback in "Family Trees" is any indication, dragons are big, loud creatures who live (?) in a tropical-esque forest. The flashback is triggered by seeing a fossil of a dragon footprint.
* EvilDetectingBaby: He growls frequently at Misty when she and Izzy first meet, only to be dismissed by the enthusiastic unicorn. He also notices Opaline's magic surveillance mouse before anyone else and makes it his mission to hunt the critter down, despite the Brighthouse presently being filled with all manner of stampeding animals. He's also the first to notice the Troggles in "Bridlewoodstock". Notably, he is a lot friendlier with Misty in Chapter 4, even when she kidnaps him again, due to her showing signs of a HeelFaceTurn.
* {{Gasshole}}: Sparky often releases his fire breath by belching, and "Tell Your Tale" showcases the same extends to his backside at times, as Misty can unfortunately confirm.
* HappilyAdopted: Hitch gladly takes him in after he hatches, and Sparky is happy to have him as his "pony dragon dad".
* LivingMacGuffin: Opaline wants to use his magical fire to regain her powers, eventually succeeding at the end of Chapter 4.
* PersonalitySwap: His hiccups can cause two ponies' cutie marks and personalities to be switched, which happens to Sunny and Hitch in "The Cutie Mark Mix-Up".
* PintSizedPowerhouse: For a baby, he's stronger than you'd think. He easily chucks a trash can into the air, knocks over a painting easel, and can drag Hitch around in ''Tell Your Tale''.
* RandomizedTransformation: His dragon breath can turn objects into other random objects, even living creatures like butterflies, with little rhyme or reason. The transformation is reversed if the object is hit a second time. If Sparky can intentionally transform one thing into another, he's much too young to control it.
* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: All the Mane Five find him adorable.
* WingsDoNothing: He has a pair of wings, but their small size and his age mean they're no good for flying at the moment.

** He appears in a photograph with Sunny, Hitch, and Grandma Figgy while the elderly mare showcases her photo album

one who was merely treated like a baby because of his size, despite being around the same age as the Cutie Mark Crusaders inspired and just as mature.

* EvilDetectingBaby: He growls frequently at Misty when she
united Equestria, and Izzy first meet, only to be dismissed by the enthusiastic unicorn. He also notices Opaline's magic surveillance mouse before anyone else and makes it his mission to hunt the critter down, despite the Brighthouse presently being filled with all manner of stampeding animals. He's also the first to notice the Troggles in "Bridlewoodstock". Notably, he is a lot friendlier with Misty in Chapter 4, even when she kidnaps him again, due to her showing signs of a HeelFaceTurn.

it's heavily implied after he hatches, and Sparky is happy to have him as his "pony dragon dad".

TimeSkip in "The Cutie Mark Mix-Up".
* PintSizedPowerhouse: For a baby,
the opening act that he's stronger than you'd think. He easily chucks a trash dead.
* {{Foil}}: Argyle is one for Phyllis in terms of parenting. While Argyle teaches Sunny about friendship and encourages her to be friends with other creatures, Phyllis teaches Sprout to be fearful of the other pony races and sees befriending them as nonsense.
* GreaterScopeParagon: It was he who taught Sunny that all ponies
can into be friends, with the air, knocks over a painting easel, and can drag Hitch around in ''Tell Your Tale''.
Tale'' short "Starscout Code" revealing that he left a recording for Sunny encouraging her to bring all the tribes together.
* RandomizedTransformation: His dragon breath can turn objects into KilledOffscreen: While never outright said, it is heavily implied that Argyle died sometime during the TimeSkip from when Sunny was a filly to now. He doesn't appear in person for the rest of the film, and his glasses and brooch are set out on a table next to a framed photo of him. Sunny talks to a picture of him and herself by the front door before heading out for her Canterlogic protest; after it all goes wrong, she sits on a curb wishing he were there. Later in ''Starscout Code'' after Sunny finds a recording of her father in which he tells her about the ancient blanket artifacts hidden in Zephyr Heights and Bridlewood, how it will take Sunny's "whole family" to find the other random objects, even living creatures like butterflies, pieces, Sunny points out how she's the only member of her family left. In ''Sunny Starscout's Book of Adventure'' and Issue #14 of [[ComicBook/MyLittlePony2022 the comics]], Sunny outright says her father has died.
* MementoMacGuffin: Provides two of these for Sunny.
** His journal is filled
with little rhyme or reason. his notes and maps, and she adds quite a bit to it as she grows up and always keeps it within easy reach (unless it's taken from her). The transformation is reversed if image of Twilight Sparkle's cutie mark on the object cover is hit what ultimately leads Zipp to join her quest.
** When Sunny was
a second time. If Sparky can intentionally transform one thing into another, filly, he made a wind-up lamp that projected images of ponies all over her bedroom. [[spoiler:Sunny later discovers that it contains the third crystal needed to help restore magic to Equestria.]]
* ShutUpHannibal: Downplayed example, but when Phyllis Cloverleaf accuses him of brainwashing his daughter with his "nonsense", he retorts without raising his voice that it is called "research", and he leaves the brainwashing in Maretime Bay to her.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: While
he's much too young heavily implied to control it.
* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: All
be dead after the Mane Five find him adorable.
* WingsDoNothing: He has
TimeSkip, his research into Equestria's true history is why Sunny is such a pair big pony unification activist, and more directly his idea to have Sunny send out a sort of wings, MessageInABottle (or, more accurately, a floating lantern) triggers a chain reaction of events that not only bring ponies back together but their small size and his age mean they're no good for flying at [[spoiler:restores magic to Equestria]].
* SugaryMalice: He accuses Phyllis of brainwashing
the moment.ponies of Maretime Bay with the same tone one might use to discuss the weather.

* PintSizedPowerhouse: During ContrastingSequelAntagonist: While both she and Sprout are Earth Pony antagonists who oppose the "Angry Mob" song, [[spoiler:they tip over unity of the Maretime Bay trolley]]. In "Roots of All Evil Part 1", [[spoiler:they throw themselves three tribes in some manner, the way they go about it is noticeably different. While Sprout seemed at Opaline with enough force to knock her back least partially in it for power, through his rapid rise to "Emperor", Posey never seeks any higher office and instead is mostly content to just complain instead of taking direct action. Posey also displays only minimal FantasticRacism and doesn't want to go to war with the portal where she came from.other tribes, her main issue is with their usage of magic. [[spoiler:Unlike Sprout, Posey has a JerkassRealization and apologizes to the Mane Five at the end.]]
* UndyingLoyalty: They'll follow Hitch no matter what, DemotedToExtra: After her antagonistic role in the first episode of ''Make Your Mark'', Posey was relegated to background appearances and act as his deputies even in ''Tell Your Tale'', she started appearing much less frequently once Chapter 2 of the former premiered. The fifth chapter changes this around town. Even a little, giving her speaking roles in the final two episodes.
* DoesNotLikeMagic: Due to a belief that the unicorns and pegasi are irresponsible at best, and malicious at worse, she campaigns to have a BanOnMagic for Maretime Bay Day. [[spoiler:She changes her tune
after joining gaining magic of her own and also being saved by Sunny's magic.]]
* GreenThumb: [[spoiler:When the earth ponies regain their magic, she's among the first to display it in the form of causing flowers to grow from the pavement.]]
* JerkassHasAPoint: Given how often her ButtMonkey status has to do with magical mishaps, it's hard to deny she has some legitimate points regarding magic being unsafe if used improperly. She also criticizes how unfair it is unicorns and pegasi got new powers from magic returning while earth ponies got nothing, which Hitch acknowledges and is shown when she loses a completion because pegasi flight gave them an unfair advantage.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She is often rather sassy and occasionally outright hostile towards others. [[spoiler: But she is still willing to apologise once she realises she went too far, and even asks Pipp to perform for Maretime Bay Day.]]
* OddFriendship: ''Mane Smelody'' reveals that she and Windy are best friends, despite her constant complaints about pegasi.
* TookALevelInKindness: After the events of the ''Make Your Mark'' special, [[spoiler:she realizes the errors of her ways and apologizes to everypony for her behavior, even asking Pipp to sing her new song she wrote for Maretime Bay Day and offering to sing along with her.]] However, [[spoiler: as seen in "Neighfever", she still has her jerkish moments.]]
* VillainyFreeVillain: She is the closest thing to a main antagonist in the Make Your Mark special, however, she never does anything outright villainous. She spends a lot of time making complaints about the use of magic in Maretime Bay, though many of those complaints are legitimate (such as pegasi crashing into other ponies and unicorns being clumsy with their magic) making it a case of JerkassHasAPoint. She also threatens to organize a boycott of Maretime Bay Day if magic is allowed to take place -- which is a valid method of protest against the problems she sees. [[spoiler: While she does contribute to the destabilisation of magic with her actions, this makes her an UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom at worst.]] Notably, she comes nowhere near
Sprout's side level of antagonism, as she doesn't even want pegasi and unicorns banned from Maretime Bay, only restricted from using their powers.

* AllThereInTheScript: The film's dialogue only refers to him as Sprout. His second name -- Cloverleaf -- is given in the toyline and some other supplementary material.
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: He resents Hitch for being better looking and more well-liked by the townsponies than he is.
* AngryEyebrows: Most of the early film has him moping about with a deadpan expression nicely accented by his brows.
* BewareTheSillyOnes: Sprout is a bully, a coward, and an idiot -- one who resents being under the shadow of his more competent, heroic, and popular superior Sheriff Hitch. But no sooner is Sprout made temporary sheriff of Maretime Bay than he quickly becomes DrunkWithPower, taking over the town as a rabble-rousing dictator and having the workers at Canterlogic build a giant war machine in preparation for a conflict with their Unicorn and Pegasi 'enemies', becoming a serious threat and the final obstacle standing in the way of the heroes' quest to bring back magic to Equestria, quite literally piloting a jury-rigged giant war machine against the heroes at the climax of the film.
* BigotWithABadge: He's an already prejudiced town policeman, but we only get to see how bigoted he truly is once he gets appointed Sheriff.
* TheBusCameBack: He's absent for the ''Make Your Mark'' special, but returns for an episode in Chapter 2 where he's [[KarmaHoudiniWarranty doing community service]]. He also plays a supporting role in the Chapter 4 episode "Top Remodel".
* ButtMonkey: His idiocy and incompetence cause him to keep embarrassing himself, and this doesn't change even when he becomes the film's main antagonist.
* TheCameo:
** His face is [[FreezeFrameBonus briefly]] seen on a wanted poster in the ''Tell Your Tale'' shorts "Nightmare Roommate" and "Foal Me Once".
** He's seen briefly at the start of ''Winter Wishday'' where he's seen decorating the town hall with two others. Perhaps he finally made some real friends?
* CorruptedCharacterCopy: Sprout superficially resembles Big Macintosh from the previous generation, as an earth pony with a red coat, light brown mane, and green eyes. Unlike the mature, hardworking, and shy Big Mac, however, Sprout is bad-tempered, lazy, and likes the sound of his own voice.
* DemotedToExtra: Ever since the movie, he mainly made cameo and background appearances and only occasionally returned for some supporting roles in ''Make Your Mark'' and has yet to make a single appearance in ''Tell Your Tale''.
* DramaticIrony: ''Make Your Mark'' reveals he has a very strong magical ability with GreenThumb magic, despite his earlier crusade against the other pony species having it.
* DirtyCop: Deputy sheriff of Maretime Bay, and a corrupt idiot.
* DirtyCoward: Would rather run and laze about than face any (perceived) real danger. He literally puts himself in one of his mom's Unicorn traps just to avoid having to follow Hitch in chasing after Sunny and Izzy, runs away to 'get reinforcements' after Izzy comes out and makes him believe she is reading his mind (she isn't) during the standoff at the lighthouse, and later in the film messes up his own desk ''right in front of Hitch'' to excuse himself from following him to track them down by claiming he needs to 'tidy up' his own space. The only time he doesn't display any cowardice is when he is having a [[DrunkWithPower power-trip]] and [[spoiler:piloting a giant war machine against the perceived threat]].
* DisappearedDad: His father is never seen or mentioned.
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: Sprout is a nobody who suddenly becomes quite dangerous during a (perceived) crisis by rousing the fear, anger, and hatred of those around him for those not of their kind, uses his given (temporary) authority to establish a dictatorship and has his subordinates build weapons in preparation for a war with those others they fear and hate out of paranoia that their 'enemies' are plotting to destroy them all, all the while abusing his authority and being an absolute egomaniac. This mirrors the rise to power of many real-life dictators. More specifically, Sprout's usage of nationalistic rhetoric and the fact that he was brought into power by business to quell public dissent parallels the Marxist reading of the rise of fascism (due to their broader anti-capitalist beliefs, communists tend to emphasize capitalist support of fascist leaders and portray them as either puppets of the rich, or monsters created by them that later went rogue).
* DramaticallyMissingThePoint:
** When Queen Haven tries to tell him the pegasi and unicorns aren't looking for a fight, Sprout replies that he's not going to accept their "surrender".
** Similarly, when he's told that the unicorns and pegasi don't even have any magic, his response is to say that now it's gonna be so much easier to take them out.
* DrunkWithPower: Less than a few days substituting Hitch as the town's sheriff while he goes after Sunny and Izzy and he's already gone full-blown dictator, complete with an earth pony-style generalissimo uniform and cap.
* EasilyForgiven: In "Growing Pains", Sunny and Hitch have no problem engaging in conversation with him. While they find him exasperating, they clearly hold no ill will toward him. Given he's stuck doing community service, they presumably feel he's being punished appropriately and have no need to pile on.
* TheEmperor: Sprout flat-out declares himself this for Maretime Bay as his [[DrunkWithPower power-trip]] descents into full-blown egomania. His reign naturally doesn't last.
* EvenBadMenLoveTheirMamas: Even at [[DrunkWithPower his worst]], Sprout still loves his mother, desperately seeking her approval and driving his machine away from Phyllis when she gets in the way, both of which cause what HeelRealization he has. He is last seen asking his mom sincerely whether or not he was a good sheriff and was left annoyed and despondent when his mother [[LookBehindYou avoids the question]].
* EvilCounterpart: He's Hitch, albeit without his bravery, tolerance, or morals.
* EvilEyebrows: It may be his color scheme that makes them stand out and it's never commented on in-universe, but his eyebrows appear much more prominent than Hitch's and most other stallions in the G5 series, even when he was small. And he is the final villain of the movie.
* EvilLaugh: He gives off a few of them when piloting his giant mech and using it to attack Sunny and her friends at her lighthouse.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: In the opening AMinorKidroduction, as a young Sprout goes home with his mother and Phyllis complains about Sunny's father and his beliefs of inter-tribal unity, little Sprout promises that when he grows up, he would become sheriff and make sure to "keep everypony in line." This hints at his transformation into a rabble-rousing dictator when Hitch leaves him temporarily in charge and he lets his new authority go to his head.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: "Top Remodel" reveals that, even after dropping his xenophobia, he is still the same obnoxious, lazy jerk he always was and the Mane 5 only tolerate him at best.
* FromNobodyToNightmare: From a bigoted, cowardly and idiotic deputy to a rabblerousing, egomaniacal and paranoid [[spoiler:dictator]] within ''days'' of being made temporary sheriff of Maretime Bay.
* TheGeneralissimo: He starts dressing like one after he comes DrunkWithPower, and also acting like one by enforcing strict "no non-earth pony" laws.
* GreenAndMean: His machinations are associated with a bright green color like his eyes.
* GreenEyedMonster: Part of the reason why he becomes so power-hungry is out of jealousy towards Hitch, whom he believes is more attractive and well-respected than he is.
* HeelRealization: After his mother turns on him due to taking her racist rhetoric way too far, he's shown to be as remorseful as the rest of the earth ponies for their actions and dejectedly questions if he was a good sheriff.
* HeroStoleMyBike: Sprout takes a kid's skateboard during his attempt to pursue Sunny to the Canter Logic factory.
* HumongousMecha: He has Canterlogic build the ultimate "anti-unicorn/pegasus' defense system in the form of a giant jury-rigged war machine in the likeliness of an enormous earth pony which he pilots against the heroes and the unicorns and Pegasi that came with them at the climax of the film. He names it "Sprouticous Maximus", [[ItsAllAboutMe after himself]].
* {{Hypocrite}}:
** He complains to his mother about Hitch going solo in his hunt for Sunny and Izzy, despite the fact that he had done everything he could to weasel his way out of joining Hitch.
** Despite his own cowardice, he expresses annoyance when the earth ponies flee rather than fight the unicorns and pegasi.
* InsufferableImbecile: He is a bigoted and cowardly idiot right from the start and [[FromNobodyToNightmare he only gets worse from there]].
* IRejectYourReality: He buys wholeheartedly into the racism and xenophobia that his mother tells him. Even after Sunny and Hitch tell Sprout that non-earth-pony races aren't a threat to Maritime Bay, Sprout won't listen. He takes it so far that even his mother starts thinking he's overdoing it, but Sprout still refuses to see reason. It gets to the point that once he's in charge, Sprout immediately starts setting draconian anti-non-earth-pony laws, building war machines against his perceived "enemies", and intends to destroy Sunny's lighthouse to stop her from restoring the magic of the non-earth-pony races.
* ItsAllAboutMe:
** Sprout starts off as a cowardly idiot who's always in the shadows of his much braver and more competent superior Sheriff Hitch, but once he gets to substitute for Hitch he turns into a grade-A egomaniac who thinks everypony should just bow to his incredible awesomeness and do what he wants. By the time Sunny and Hitch return to Maretime Bay, he's even started naming laws and [[spoiler:a giant robot]] after himself.
** In "Top Remodel", he is insistent that the now-defunct [=CanterLogic=] building still belongs to his family, and by extension, him.
* IWantMyMommy: When [[spoiler:his cutie mark is taken away from him through Opaline's tree in Maretime Bay]], he cries out to his mom to bring it back.
* {{Jerkass}}:
** While chasing Sunny, he grabs a random earth pony's food and drink and eats it.
** A flashback in "Cutie Blossom Bash" shows him refusing to let a filly play with him and his colt friends for no reason other than [[GirlsHaveCooties she was a filly]].
* KarmaHoudiniWarranty:
** ''Tell Your Tale'' implies karma caught up with him. His face can seen on a wanted poster in both the episodes "Nightmare Roomate" and "Foal Me Once". In the latter episode, Hitch mentions he works on his own and needs a new deputy implying Hitch fired Sprout due to his actions in the movie.
** In Chapter 2 of ''Make Your Mark'', he's been reduced to community service.
* LaughablyEvil: While he's the main antagonist, Sprout's actions are also played for comedy.
** Early on, Sprout has a tendency of running into doors or having doors slam on him.
** He's a DirtyCoward that hides in a unicorn trap to avoid having to chase after Izzy. When Hitch and Sprout track down Izzy and Sunny, he wears a hat that supposedly blocks unicorn mind control. And when Izzy comes outside (despite [[GenkiGirl being happy and friendly]]), he runs away, citing that he needs to find backup.
** After Sprout becomes DrunkWithPower and [[spoiler:dresses as TheGeneralissimo]], he still needs a raised step to reach a microphone. And when a flag with his face drops down from above, it completely covers him, necessitating him to squirm his way out from underneath it and ruining his big moment.
** The first thing he does when he gets into and activates his [[spoiler:giant war machine]]? Pull a wire and ''honk'' it like he's a glorified truck driver.
* LethallyStupid: Part of the reason Sprout is as dangerous as he is is that he's an idiot who doesn't think his actions through once he gets enough power to actually be a threat.
* MeaningfulName: A sprout is a plant that has begun to grow, similar to how Sprout has [[ManChild a lot of growing up to do]].
* MommasBoy: Sprout doesn't have one original thought in his head that wasn't put there by his mother and her prejudice. He's also shown to constantly crave her approval for his actions. Even as an adult, he refers to her as "Mommy" as a way of showing how immature he is.
* MoralMyopia: Sprout has grown to dislike Hitch for all his success and prowess, yet he himself seems lost on the fact that his cowardice, laziness, and inability to stop relying on his mother are the main likely culprits to why he can't measure up.
* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed: With his quasi-military position, his greyish dress uniform with a CommissarCap, ChestOfMedals, and SinisterShades, and the fact that he was brought into power by business, he's a very clear UsefulNotes/AugustoPinochet parody. Even Sprout's very nature and background follows Pinochet's in a way; Pinochet was a supposedly loyal officer trusted by then-President Salvador Allende, who found himself drawn into the anti-Allende coup at the last minute. Once Pinochet got a taste of power as part of the military junta, it went straight to his head and he swept aside the junta to establish a brutal autocracy under him alone. Sprout appears to be a loyal subordinate trusted by Hitch, but quickly establishes himself as an all-powerful dictator within days, and eventually fights Hitch and his friends.
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: During the first half of the movie, he's a petulant thug and at worst a nuisance to the heroes. Then Hitch makes the mistake of leaving him in charge of Maretime Bay in his absence, and he swiftly [[DrunkWithPower declares himself an 'emperor']], constructs a giant robot, and nearly kills Sunny.
* PsychopathicManchild: He combines a pathological urge for power and acceptance with deep insecurity and emotional dependence on his own mother.
* PuttingOnTheReich: Once he becomes the leader of Maretime Bay, he starts wearing a CommissarCap and cape, makes speeches from a podium with a giant banner behind him, makes his followers march in single files, and his politics are based entirely on racial prejudices.
* RabbleRouser: He quickly rouses the earth ponies of Maretime Bay with an AngryMobSong against the unicorns and pegasi when he steps up to become temporary sheriff.
* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: His main body coat is red, he starts wearing a black sheriff vest in his next scene after the Angry Mob song, [[EvilEyebrows plus his huge eyebrows]], and turns out to be the villain of the movie after his mother [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone realizes he's going too far]].
* TheResenter: He has always resented Hitch for being more good-looking, more heroic, and more competent than he is (and for gaining the position of sheriff that Sprout himself dreamed of attaining in his youth), and wastes no time plastering Hitch's images and pictures with his own visage when he takes over as sheriff. Hitch for his part [[UnknownRival doesn't even seem to be aware that Sprout is jealous of him]].
* SchoolyardBullyAllGrownUp: AMinorKidroduction shows colt Sprout taking over Sunny's game and ignoring her protests. Fast forward to adulthood, and nothing has changed.
* SmallNameBigEgo: He thinks highly of himself despite his general lack of skill or competence.
* StarterVillain: He's the first major antagonist of G5 but in terms of the overall plot of media following the movie, he hasn't had any major impact since being demoted to mostly small cameos.
* SubParSupremacist: Speaks about the glories of earth ponies, but is himself an infantile, lazy, and weak idiot.
* TookALevelInKindness: He makes several appearances in the series as a background character but doesn't demonstrate any of his negative traits, except boasting, and while his out-of-control Earth pony magic did create problems, he clearly did not intend to cause any harm.

to:

* AllThereInTheScript: The film's dialogue only refers to him as Sprout. His second name -- Cloverleaf -- is given in the toyline and some other supplementary material.
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: He resents Hitch for being better looking and
For more well-liked by the townsponies than he is.
* AngryEyebrows: Most of the early film has him moping
information about with a deadpan expression nicely accented by his brows.
* BewareTheSillyOnes: Sprout is a bully, a coward, and an idiot -- one who resents being under
him visit the shadow of his more competent, heroic, and popular superior Sheriff Hitch.
* TheCameo:
* DramaticallyMissingThePoint:
* {{Hypocrite}}:
* ItsAllAboutMe:
* {{Jerkass}}:
** While chasing Sunny, he grabs a random earth pony's food and drink and eats it.
** A flashback in "Cutie Blossom Bash" shows him refusing to let a filly play with him and his colt friends for no reason other than [[GirlsHaveCooties she was a filly]].
* KarmaHoudiniWarranty:

----
* AbsurdPhobia: Daisies are apparently her greatest fear -- the mere sight of one is enough to get her to hide in a bush. Luckily for her, Izzy is able to help her overcome this.
* AscendedExtra: She only appeared in one shot in ''A New Generation'' before becoming a recurring character in ''Tell Your Tale'' and ''Make Your Mark''.
* CowardlyLion: In spite of being skittish enough to be scared of daisies, she [[spoiler:continued to try to help Posey even as the void expanded towards them and her own magic was glitching (so she could not fly out if she were to fall in)]].
* EarlyBirdCameo: She can be seen very briefly in ''A New Generation'' during Pipp's concert before getting a formal introduction in ''Tell Your Tale''.

->'''Debut:''' ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyMakeYourMark''
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/KimberlyAnnTruong

An earth pony who lives in a cottage on the outskirts of Maretime Bay.
----
* AdaptationalJerkass: She's generally meaner and sassier than her G1 counterpart.
* ADayInTheLimelight: The ''Tell Your Tale'' short "Snow Pun Intended" revolves around her struggle to enjoy the snowfall.
* ButtMonkey: Her appearances often feature her experiencing some kind of misfortune, often related to magic. [[spoiler:This reaches its apex in "Nightmare on Mane Street" when Opaline steals her cutie mark.]]
* ContrastingSequelAntagonist: While both she and Sprout are Earth Pony antagonists who oppose the unity of the three tribes in some manner, the way they go about it is noticeably different. While Sprout seemed at least partially in it for power, through his rapid rise to "Emperor", Posey never seeks any higher office and instead is mostly content to just complain instead of taking direct action. Posey also displays only minimal FantasticRacism and doesn't want to go to war with the other tribes, her main issue is with their usage of magic. [[spoiler:Unlike Sprout, Posey has a JerkassRealization and apologizes to the Mane Five at the end.]]
* DemotedToExtra: After her antagonistic role in the first episode of ''Make Your Mark'', Posey was relegated to background appearances and even in ''Tell Your Tale'', she started appearing much less frequently once Chapter 2 of the former premiered. The fifth chapter changes this around a little, giving her speaking roles in the final two episodes.
* DoesNotLikeMagic: Due to a belief that the unicorns and pegasi are irresponsible at best, and malicious at worse, she campaigns to have a BanOnMagic for Maretime Bay Day. [[spoiler:She changes her tune after gaining magic of her own and also being saved by Sunny's magic.]]
[[spoiler: While she does contribute to the destabilisation of magic with her actions, this makes her an UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom at worst.]] Notably, she comes nowhere near Sprout's level of antagonism, as she doesn't even want pegasi and unicorns banned from Maretime Bay, only restricted from using their powers.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: The ''TYT'' short "Snow Pun Intended" shows her being terrified when she's flying in the Marestream.

* CoolOldLady: In ''Bridlewoodstock'', Hitch reveals that she knows Minty (lead singer of the Dreamlands) personally and used to bake for her.
* DontThinkFeel: When Sunny goes to her to learn how to make Hitch's favorite holiday treat in the TYT short "Foal Food", Figgy eschews the idea of simply providing her with the recipe and encourages Sunny to "Bake with your heart, not with your hooves."
* DotingGrandparent: Despite Hitch being an adult, Figgy is quick to show him lots of affection.

* InformedAttribute: Just before the Mane Five arrive at her cottage, Hitch warns them that she is very "particular" about Wishday. She quickly proves that she's just fine with changing things up a little (and tells the others that ''Hitch'' is actually the one who's particular about traditions).

----
* ThePerilsOfBeingTheBest: They ask not to be the festival's headliner act because it would place a lot of pressure on them.
* PuttingTheBandBackTogether: Downplayed; the Dreamlands have long since broken up by the time of the special. While Sunny and Hitch are able to convince them to reunite for the festival easily enough, the group have trouble getting back in synch, and fear that they no longer have what it takes to play in the modern world.

Sunny's father, a researcher who studies ancient Equestria.
----
* BigGood: He's responsible for Sunny being who she is, having been a big proponent for friendship between the different kinds of ponies himself, and his legacy after his presumed [[KilledOffscreen death]] plays a huge role in bringing ponies together.
* TheCameo:
** He appears in a photograph with Sunny, Hitch, and Grandma Figgy while the elderly mare showcases her photo album to the Mane Five in ''Winter Wishday''.
** In "Cutie Blossom Bash", he appears in a flashback when Sunny explains how she got her cutie mark.
* DeceasedParentsAreTheBest: He's the one who inspired and nurtured Sunny's dream of a united Equestria, and it's heavily implied after the TimeSkip in the opening act that he's dead.
* {{Foil}}: Argyle is one for Phyllis in terms of parenting. While Argyle teaches Sunny about friendship and encourages her to be friends with other creatures, Phyllis teaches Sprout to be fearful of the other pony races and sees befriending them as nonsense.
* GreaterScopeParagon: It was he who taught Sunny that all ponies can be friends, with the ''Tell Your Tale'' short "Starscout Code" revealing that he left a recording for Sunny encouraging her to bring all the tribes together.
* KilledOffscreen: While never outright said, it is heavily implied that Argyle died sometime during the TimeSkip from when Sunny was a filly to now. Later in ''Starscout Code'' after Sunny finds a recording of her father in which he tells her about the ancient blanket artifacts hidden in Zephyr Heights and Bridlewood, how it will take Sunny's "whole family" to find the other pieces, Sunny points out how she's the only member of her family left. In ''Sunny Starscout's Book of Adventure'' and Issue #14 of [[ComicBook/MyLittlePony2022 the comics]], Sunny outright says her father has died.
* MementoMacGuffin: Provides two of these for Sunny.
** His journal is filled with his notes and maps, and she adds quite a bit to it as she grows up and always keeps it within easy reach (unless it's taken from her). The image of Twilight Sparkle's cutie mark on the cover is what ultimately leads Zipp to join her quest.
** When Sunny was a filly, he made a wind-up lamp that projected images of ponies all over her bedroom.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: While he's heavily implied to be dead after the TimeSkip, his research into Equestria's true history is why Sunny is such a big pony unification activist, and more directly his idea to have Sunny send out a sort of MessageInABottle (or, more accurately, a floating lantern) triggers a chain reaction of events that not only bring ponies back together but [[spoiler:restores magic to Equestria]].
* SugaryMalice: He accuses Phyllis of brainwashing the ponies of Maretime Bay with the same tone one might use to discuss the weather.

A baby dragon introduced in the ''Make Your Mark'' special. He hatches from an egg that Hitch finds on the beach.
----
* BrainyBaby:

!Maretime Bay
Home of the earth ponies, Maretime Bay is a peaceful seaside town whose residents are nevertheless living in constant fear of the unicorns and the pegasi, something which the local main business Canterlogic exploited to sell their anti-unicorn/pegasus defense products. After the events of the first movie, a number of pegasi and unicorns begin to move into the town, although relationships between them and the earth ponies aren't always ideal.
----
[[folder:General]]
* CrapolaTech: [=CanterLogic's=] protection gear has obviously never been field tested. For one, most of it is for protection from things the earth ponies ''think'' the unicorns and pegasi can do, not for things they can actually do. The first time any of it is used in a real "invasion" -- that is, Izzy just walking casually into town -- the safety tech either does nothing at all or backfires on the citizens. This contrasts with the pegasi having tech analogous to the real world -- cell phones, biometric scanners, etc. -- that works precisely as it's supposed to. Needless to say, [[spoiler:by Chapter 4 the company has been dissolved and the factory is abandoned, and seemingly has been for quite a while]].
* TheDictatorship: In ''A New Generation'', after Sunny and Hitch leave, [[spoiler:Sprout becomes a rabble-rousing dictator and turns Maretime Bay into a miniature military dictatorship under himself]].
* {{Irony}}: A company that manufactures defense items against unicorn and pegasi ironically has a name reminiscent of an ancient city primarily inhabited by unicorns.
* NoNameGiven: The balloon pony is the only [=CanterLogic=] model not named by Phyllis during the presentation and the credits only list him by [[{{Balloonacy}} what he is known for.]] Even the newspaper mentioning his disappearance, as seen during [[VillainSong "Angry Mob"]], doesn't give his name.
* OutsideContextProblem: As the town was originally inhabited solely by earth ponies, its laws are made with their specific abilities and lack thereof in mind. In ''Make Your Mark'', when pegasi and unicorns start moving in, the lack of laws about things non-earth ponies can do causes confusion for Hitch and the residents.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: In ''A New Generation'', when Sprout commands the earth ponies against the unicorns and pegasi in the film's climax, several of them turn tail and run away instead, much to his irritation.
* SkeletonGovernment: The Bay has no authorities other than Sheriff Hitch, who only deals with crime. It's the protagonists who coordinate community efforts and maintain public areas.
* UngratefulTownsfolk: A good chunk of the populace in "Ali Conned" (including the pegasi and unicorns now living there) continues to see Sunny's activism as "lost causes" despite her being the one responsible for restoring the bonds of friendship between the three pony races. They only bother to pay attention whenever Sunny's in alicorn form and are just as quick to boo her off the podium when she doesn't assume said form when making a speech, much to her grief.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: Outside of a quick back cover photograph on a magazine read by Misty and Zipp in "Dragon Dad", the balloon pony has not reappeared even in background shots in either animated series or the comics.

The owner and CEO of [=CanterLogic=], a high-tech company that specializes in protection gear from Unicorns and Pegasus.
----
* AllPartOfTheShow: She invokes this twice during the [=CanterLogic=] expo:
** When Sparkle Chaser, while showing off the "Pega-Periscope Goggles" falls off the runway, she tells the audience this ''verbatim''.
** When Sunny jumps on stage to try and convince the Earth ponies to accept Unicorns and Pegasi, getting caught up in the final demonstration as a result, Phyllis unconvincingly tries to act like everything is going as planned.
* BaitAndSwitch: At first it appears she will be the main villain (or closest to one) of the whole film. [[spoiler:Then her son Sprout takes over as the dictator of Maretime Bay and becomes the final antagonist the heroes have to face to reunite the Pony Tribes and return magic to Equestria]].
* TheCameo:
** She appears in a photograph with Sprout and later in-person reading a newspaper in "Top Remodel".
** She makes non-speaking appearances in both parts of "Roots of All Evil".
* CausticCritic: She plays this role in the ''Tell Your Tale'' short "Welcome to Mane Melody", [[BadReviewThreat threatening]] to give Pipp's salon a review negative enough to get it closed down if she's not 100% satisfied with Pipp's work (and proudly claims to have done the same thing to many former businesses).
* CorruptCorporateExecutive: Whether or not she believed in what she preached about unicorns and pegasi ([[spoiler:she actually does]]), she still profited from these prejudices by marketing and selling anti-Unicorn/Pegasi defense products to the residents of Maretime Bay -- products which are at best defective and useless in their actual purpose and at worst more dangerous to the user than the unicorns and pegasi they were meant to defend earth ponies from. She later lets Sprout commandeer the factory and turn it into a NoOSHACompliance nightmare, with workers constantly at risk of being crushed, falling from high places, and being injured by their own equipment. It's hardly any surprise to learn later that the company was disbanded with the HQ building later reformed into Canterlot Studios.
* EveryoneHasStandards: She's happy to foment fear against other pony breeds to sell her defense products to the local population, but she has no desire to actually attack anyone and start a war, [[spoiler:and tries to rein in her son when he attempts just that]].
* {{Foil}}: Phyillis is one for Argyle in terms of parenting. While Argyle teaches Sunny about friendship and encourages her to be friends with other creatures, Phyllis teaches Sprout to be fearful of the other pony races and sees befriending them as nonsense.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: A minor one, but when Izzy Moonbow visits Maretime Bay and causes a panic, rather than hide inside her own building, Phyllis actually stands out in front of her company with her employees and takes charge of the 'defence' of Maretime Bay, wearing one of the 'anti-mind reading' helmets and coordinating a 'Splat-a-pult' bombardment against Izzy and Sunny. This hints early on [[spoiler:that she doesn't just peddle anti-Unicorn/Pegasi racism for craven profit and might actually be sincere in her misbeliefs]], as well as hinting the BaitAndSwitch later in the film [[spoiler:with her son Sprout]].
* GoneHorriblyRight: Raising Sprout to hate unicorns and Pegasi and encouraging her son to take charge as temporary sheriff eventually leads him to becoming [[spoiler:a rabble-rousing dictator]], [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone much to her own consternation]].
* HeelFaceTurn: She's the initial representative of racist earth ponies, but she has a change of heart after [[spoiler:seeing the destruction Sprout wreaks in the name of those values, even putting herself in front of Sprout and his war machine in a desperate attempt to stop his son's madness. Together with the other two leader figures of the Pony Tribes, she eventually accepts Sunny's message of choosing friendship and unity over fear and division, an act which finally activates the three Pony Crystals and brings magic back to Equestria]].
* HeelRealization: She starts one when Sunny reveals the other pony tribes don't have magic, meaning unicorns and pegasi can't do any of the spells or flying that supposedly makes them dangerous. It's cemented when Sprout goes totally overboard in [[spoiler:driving the earth ponies into war]], and she understands how toxic her beliefs really are.
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: She didn't have a very high opinion of Argyle, labeling him "trouble" for his beliefs in unity between all ponies.
* LookBehindYou: When Sprout asks his mother [[spoiler:after magic returns]] whether he was a good sheriff or not, Phyllis -- having nothing good to say to her son after seeing him [[spoiler:going mad with power and becoming a full-on dictator who took over the town, hijacked her company's tech and resources to build a giant robot, and tried to start an all-out race war]] -- just distracts him by pointing him to [[spoiler:[[ItMakesSenseInContext a flying dog]]]] and trotting off before he turns his head back, leaving him annoyed and despondent.
* MyBelovedSmother: Phyllis is clearly why Sprout is the way he is, what with her constant coddling and anti-unicorn and pegasus rhetoric. She also still essentially talks to and treats him like a baby, trying to stop her (adult) son from [[spoiler:going on a racist rampage in his giant war machine]] by telling him to "put [his] toy away".
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: She slowly has this realization as her son Sprout goes DrunkWithPower and [[spoiler:becomes a rabblerousing dictator]], all because of her racist teachings and encouragement.
* NotAllowedToGrowOld: She doesn't look a day older after the TimeSkip that follows the prologue.
* OutOfFocus: After playing a significant role in the movie, Phyllis has only made one speaking appearance since then.
* ParentalSubstitute: [[ImpliedTrope Implied]] when Hitch leaves Sunny's home with her and Sprout in the prologue, and with no mention of Hitch's own family in the movie or series thus far, well...except when his grandma is introduced in the Christmas special. There remains some wiggle room for debate if Figgy was Hitch's primary caregiver since there's still no mention of any parents.
* ParentsAsPeople: She clearly loves her son Sprout and does everything possible to encourage him to succeed in life, but it's clear that her coddling as well as racism for the other pony tribes had detrimentally affected Sprout's character and unintentionally set him off down the destructive path he would go down later in the film.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: Her parroting of the racist rhetoric that permeates Maritime Bay towards her son turns him into [[spoiler:a power-mad dictator]].
* WellIntentionedExtremist: [[spoiler:It's revealed that she actually does believe what she preaches about unicorns and pegasi and makes and markets her products to protect earth ponies from them. Phyllis' son, Sprout is the deputy sheriff of Maretime Bay. While initially a young stallion with big dreams but not much motivation, things change when Hitch leaves Maretime Bay in pursuit of Sunny and Izzy, leaving him to step into the role as the temporary sheriff of Maretime Bay...
----
* AllThereInTheScript: The film's dialogue only refers to him as Sprout.
* TheCameo:
* DramaticallyMissingThePoint:
* {{Hypocrite}}:
* ItsAllAboutMe:
* {{Jerkass}}:
** While chasing Sunny, he grabs a random earth pony's food and drink and eats it.
** A flashback in "Cutie Blossom Bash" shows him refusing to let a filly play with him and his colt friends for no reason other than [[GirlsHaveCooties she was a filly]].
* KarmaHoudiniWarranty:
