->With the timeline once aagain reset, Smoke is reborn in the New Era. Born to a family of hunters, he and his family accidentally ventured into Lin Kuei territory and were attacked, with Smoke ending up being the only survivor. The Grandmaster at the time, Sub-Zero's father, decided to adopt him as an act of atonement for his subordinates' actions. Raised alongside Sub-Zero and Scorpion as his brothers, Smoke steadily became accustomed to his new life as a Lin Kuei warrior. Though lacking his brothers' elemental gifts, he learned how to utilize practical magic in order to keep up with them.

* ButNotTooBlack: Jade has a brown skin tone since her introduction, however, in some of the official art and renders for ''[=MK9=]'', she's barely tan. In the mobile version of ''MKX'', she again loses her brown skin tone for a tan one. Also in the movie adaption she appears in, ''Annihilation'' she has Asian-like features that vastly differ to her portrayal in-game. In ''11'', her skin is back to being dark again.
