The captain of the Baseball club and Sumire Tono's boyfriend. A known philandering heartbreaker, he's been involved with many girls in the past, something that comes back to bite him in the Pactbearer of Lust arc.

One of two aberrant Monarks encountered by Hugo Cromwell many years ago, it wields the Authority of Vanity, granting the user the ability of Animakinesis. Initially presumed to be Vanitas, the Monark of Vanity is revealed to be a separate entity and was in fact absorbed by Tristia prior to the start of the game, taking the Monark's Authority. Yoru would later transfer its Authority to the Vice-President, an ArtificialHuman that would become a failed replicant of the original Monark of Vanity.

* TheGhost: He's never mentioned in-game, and his presence is only alluded to in the various notes and journals found across the school and is otherwise implied to be long dead. That said, there are implications he may be [[spoiler:Yugo Jingu]] as one of the notes found in the game reveals he abandoned his old name and past to marry a woman he met at Shin Mikado many years ago. [[spoiler:"Deepest Depths" confirms it, with him revealing that "Yugo" was a synonym for Hugo.]]

* WalkingSpoiler: For a man you only learn of through collectible notes and journals, he is surprisingly integral to the story and certain reveals regarding his actions in the game make it impossible to talk about them without spoiling the nature of his relationship with the Jingu Family.

* BlueAndOrangeMorality: In contrast to Sora, who is a Monark who fell in love with her Pactbearer or Vanitas, who aides the TSC on a whim and boredom, Yoru operates by a strange, child-like mindset. She shows a strange form of motherly love to the Vice-President, but she can easily cast him aside if he interferes with her plans.

* PetTheDog: In "Dark Abundance", she has a clear shot at Yugo when the Vice-President puts himself in the line of fire and diverts her attack at the last second, proceeding to scold him for trying to get himself killed. In her [[BlueAndOrangeMorality own twisted way]], she does have parental feelings for the Vice-President and tries to convince him to side with her. Depending on which Act 2 chapter you're on, however, this can fall flat as it becomes clear the Vice-President will disappear after he's fulfilled his purpose, i.e. killing Sora, and admitting to having killed Chiyo.

* EvilCounterpart: To Sora, which is a given since she's Tristia's LiteralSplitPersonality. Yoru is an enigmatic figure who also serves as a guiding figure for the Vice-President, though whereas Sora instructs him to deal with the Pactbearers to free the school and save the students, she asks him to consider the motivations of the Pactbearers as well as asking him about his own motivations. Yoru is also truer to the motivations a typical Monark, albeit with her own twisted agendas and essentially embodies everything Tristia is trying to ignore or abandon as "Sora" through her pact with Yugo.

* EvilFeelsGood: She takes great, child-like pleasure in killing and torturing others. She happily shows off what's left of Yugo to Sora or tries to kill him in front of her to break her spirit, and in "Unhinged Darkness", toys with the Vice-President and him by creating famiscles of their loved ones before revealing she killed Chiyo, both because she was getting too close to figuring out the truth behind the Vice-President and dragged out her death because she found her annoying.

* AllForNothing: Her efforts to maintain her charade as "Sora Jingu" are rendered useless in "Deepest Depths" when she, Yoru, and Yugo regain their memories of Act 2 thanks to the Vice-President's Resonance. This also includes the memories Tristia wiped from Yugo's memory, allowing him to regain his memories as Hugo Cromwell and force her to act as a Monark rather than as "Sora Jingu". Worse still, whatever desire she might have to remain by Yugo's side is similarly destroyed as Yugo's Ideals begin to crack after he foregoes his original wish, and therefore the only thing keeping his Ideals sustained.

* BigGood: She's presented as such, with her family being extremely knowledgeable of Daemons, Monarks, and the Pactbearers. She's also the one to request that the Vice-President help her resolve the anomalies happening across the school in the hopes of returning Shin Mikado to normal. Her status comes under heavy fire in "Intermission: Dusk" when she's revealed to not only be a Pactbearer herself, but the one responsible for erecting the Barrier in the first place. All but one of the Act 2 chapters have her subvert this role when she decides the Vice-President must be eliminated because of his aberrant existence and/or goes flying off the deep end thanks to Yoru.

* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: As harsh as she is, Tristia genuinely loves her family, especially Yugo who she is HappilyMarried with. As one might expect, Yugo's death or even the possibility he might die is enough to make her ''snap''.

* GreaterScopeVillain: While this would technically apply to Tristia and Kakeru, the latter of whom being responsible for the StableTimeLoop within Shin Mikado, it was her answering Yugo's desire and becoming his Monark that kickstarted the series of events within the game.

* HunterOfHerOwnKind: She's a Monark who (at first) leads the fight against other Monarks and their Pactbearers, and part of her skillset includes the barrier that currently surrounds the school. In all Act 2 routes barring Nozomi's, you learn Yugo is her Pactbearer, though she intentionally wipes his memories of anything related to the Otherworld so as to keep the ruse that she's Sora Jingu going.
* IdentityImpersonator: When she was unable to revive the original Sora Jingu with her Essokinesis and the Authority of Vanity seemingly rejected her, Tristia opted to pose as Sora and wipe her Pactbearer's memories of everything pertaining to the Otherworld and the Daemons. It eventually grew into BecomingTheMask as Tristia began to identify herself as "Sora Jingu", a role which she is desperate to keep.
* ImmortalImmaturity: If Hugo Cromwell's notes are to be believed, Tristia is rather immature and childish. He chalks it up to her inexperience with human Pactbearers, as Essokinesis is an incredibly powerful skill that can easily go wrong and Pactbearers have been noted to be killed by their own Authorities several times before in the past.

* LockedOutOfTheLoop: For some reason or another, Tristia knew nothing about the Outer God Yugo discovered through the Jingu family's research, despite having more or replaced the original Sora Jingu. She even rejects the possibility that the gods even existed when Ryotaro proposed this theory. She only learns about the Outer God's existence when the Vice-President's enhanced Resonance restores her memories of Act 2.
* LoveMakesYouEvil: She genuinely loves Yugo. The problem is that she's a Monark, and she is partly responsible for the anomalies as well as the one keeping the Barrier up. The only thing keeping her sane from this contradiction is Yugo himself, and his death is what causes her to snap and go full-blown AxCrazy. This is lampshaded by Yoru in the TSC Pactbearers' routes.

** Despite her youthful body, Yoru is actually a newborn Monark as she was created during the repeated time loops in Shin Mikado after the Barrier went up. The interval of the resets is implied to be a few days, and throwaway dialogue by an NPC implies the time loops have repeated over seventy times, meaning Yoru is, at best, ''a month old''.

* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: When she splits away from Tristia and adopts a more distinct appearance, she wears a red-and-black dress. She's also completely unapologetic about the chaos she's caused and makes no secret she will cause even more once she's outside Shin Mikado.

* {{Futureshadowing}}: When they say "I can see where this battle is going.", they literally mean it, thanks to their power of Precognition letting them see the future, the steps to achieve it, and whether or not those steps are met.
* RainOfArrows: ''Fussilade'' allows them to rain bolts down on an area, the number of hits and the damage it does based on their ''Luck'' stat.

* GradualRegeneration: One of their later healing spells heals the affected by a certain percentage of their health after every action taken.
* PoisonousPerson: Their main offensive element is Poison and Poison attacks.

* BarbarianHero: Their specialty is large amounts of burst damage up close and to crowds, contrasting the Pride Legions playstyle.
* ShockAndAwe: They have access to electricity-themed Authority attacks, either useful for disabling enemies by shocking them stupid or healing themselves through rigorous, quasi-medical use of high voltage currents.

* AbusiveParents: By technically. She's the one who created the Vice-President and his "siblings", though he's the only one she cultivated with an Ego while feigning motherly love and calling him special. On the other hand, she's murdered god knows how many of his siblings for being failures, and the Vice-President only exists to kill Sora. Once that objective is completed, he will disappear. In "Dark Abundance" and "Unhinged Darkness", she shows no hesitation in killing the Vice-President for going against her and even mentally tortures him by creating a famiscile of Chiyo, only to erase said famiscile and reveal she's the one who killed Chiyo in the first place.

* AssimilationPlot: Her goal is to gain enough power to overpower and absorb Tristia, becoming a proper Monark and succeeding her as the Monark of Woe. She never succeeds, even in Shinya's route where Tristia is killed in a vain attempt at trying to protect Yugo.
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: Yoru kills Yugo so as to break Sora's heart and mind, leaving her weakened enough for Yoru to absorb her power and become a proper Monark. Depending on the TSC Pactbearer Act 2 chapter you're on, Yoru's actions cause Sora to snap and will either erase any student she feels is not content and/or has a powerful Ego or absorb Yugo and Shinya and anyone else the two deem close to them.

* BitchInSheepsClothing: She portrays herself as a guiding figure to the Vice-President, asking him to consider the Pactbearers' motivations and ideals carefully. It's all part of her experiment, and depending on the route, she decides to throw him aside when he's no longer useful to her. That's not even going into her murder of Chiyo.

* LaserGuidedAmnesia: [[spoiler:If the Vice-President wishes to resurrect Kakeru, Yog-Sothoth states his Ideals were shattered will therefore lack certain memories. It's uncertain how much of his memory is gone or if he's in a state similar to Sumire and forgot all about his younger brother Mitsuru.]]

* NoodleIncident: After the first chapter, if the protagonist goes to visit him after Nozomi leaves the party, he'll mention he had a brother. It's heavily implied his brother died and he played a role in it, something he deeply regrets. [[spoiler:You get the full story in the Pactbearer of Greed arc.]]

* {{Foreshadowing}}: When playing the game [[RewatchBonus a second time around]], his MeaningfulLook at Vanitas and the Vice-President during their first trip in the Otherworld takes on a lot more meaning. [[spoiler:After all, the Vice-President didn't even '''exist''' at this point and Vanitas' mere existence was unknown to him.]]

* LaserGuidedAmnesia: Since she wasn't with the group when [[spoiler:Sora used her Authority, Kakeru's time loop takes effect and loses all her memories of everything that's happened up until now]].

* LaserGuidedKarma: [[spoiler:After time is rewound to when the barrier first appeared and the Tono twins' relationship is back on the mend after their Ideals have been shattered, Haruka is dumped offscreen by Sumire. Not only is it a dose of well-deserved karma for his philandering, it's also the ''second'' time someone's dumped him. Oddly, this seems to spur him in a positive direction as he decides to swear off romance and rededicate himself to baseball.]]

* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: Prior to the start of the Pactbearer of Wrath arc, [[spoiler:Hidefumi pushed Subaru out the window on the third floor of the first-year building]]. This ended up being the catalyst for Subaru coming into contact with the Otherworld and making a pact with Ira, the Monark of Wrath.

* AnimalMotifs: Bats. She has several wings on her back and a seemingly decorative pair on her head, much like Morgana from ''VideoGame/DarkStalkers''

* TortureTechnician: Her other theme, considering she seems to rather ''enjoy'' causing harm to people using her power. Fittingly, one of her previous Pactbearers seemed to have a fascination with cutting off the fingers off someone while erasing that person's memory and regrowing said finger. As noted in the Cromwell Archive notes for Pride, the Pactbearer in question had a ''bucket'' full of fingers.

* ShockAndAwe: His Authority also gives him the power of calling lightning down on you or shooting electricity out of his hands.

* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: Several students in the Club building note how his relationship with Sumire is the longest one he's had. Near the end of Irreversible Fidelity, he admits he might actually be genuine about his relationship with Sumire, whereas all other girls he's been involved with were merely flings.

* WhatHappenedToTheMouse After [[spoiler:the first time loop in Act 1's Intermission prevents the Tono Twins from ever forming a pact and murdering him and the rest of the team]], Haruka is mysteriously missing. He shows back up in the epilogue, swearing off romance and focusing on sports. It's implied the reason for his disappearance was because [[spoiler:he was dumped ''again'']].

* LaserGuidedAmnesia: Since she wasn't with the group when [[spoiler:Sora used her Authority, Kakeru's time loop takes affect and loses all her memories of everything that's happened up until now]].
* RedeemingReplacement: After [[spoiler:Dr. Kakeru is revealed to be a Pactbearer and then dies after his fight with the TSC]], Dr. Shironeko ends up taking over his duties and is much more pleasant and unambiguously good about her job.

* CruelAndUnusualDeath: [[spoiler:He's horrifically burned alive in the Baseball Club locker room, and there's not even a trace of him left behind.]]
* ChickMagnet: His good looks earned him no small amount of affection and endearment from the girls of Shin Mikado.

* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: Several students in the Club building note how his relationship with Sumire is the longest one he's had. Near the end of the Pactbearer of Lust arc, he admits he might actually be genuine about his relationship with Sumire, whereas all other girls he's been involved with were merely flings.
* PetTheDog: As much as he is a playboy who drops girls like trash [[spoiler:He is genuinely concerned when he can't find Sumire at the start of the second time loop, desperately hoping she is alright. Then again, he doesn't really do a thorough job looking for her since he is hiding in a corner deep inside the club building but it's the thought that counts.]]

* BadassGrandpa: You don't get to see it on-screen, but he's got military-grade CQC training and taught Shinya everything he knows, pushing the youngster's body to the physical limit. [[spoiler:You get to see what he's capable of in "Deepest Depths".]]

!!The Jingu Family

* BadassFamily: The Jingu Family, through H. Cromwell's notes on the Otherworld and Daemons, has had a long history of combating the supernatural. Sora handles the more occult affairs while Yugo, unexposed to such elements, focuses more on physical threats and has had military-style training. Both of them pass on their knowledge to Shinya, their adopted son. [[spoiler:They turn out to be even more badass when it's revealed Yugo is a Pactbearer and Sora is his Monark.]]

Since the anomalies arose, he has been maintaining the academy and its utilities from behind the scenes.\\\

* AllForNothing: [[spoiler:Hugo was all but guaranteed to succeed in reviving Sora, having both defeated the Monarks and was implied to have even defeated Yog-Sothoth. The reason why Sora is still deceased is because Yog-Sothoth told him there would be consequences to his actions, and Hugo interpreted those consequences as Sora's revival dooming the world For an extra kick, it's possible Hugo was wrong in that conclusion as the Vice-President can potentially revive Sora in "Addendum: Dawn" without any problems or consequences whatsoever.]]
* AnonymousAuthor: [[invoked]] Downplayed. Cromwell's name is well-known to the Jingu family and to the TSC through his various notes and journals, but he abandoned his birth name and past to marry a woman in Shin Mikado. [[spoiler:You eventually learn this was Yugo.]]

The only thing he will ''not'' compromise on is the Vice-President's continued existence, which will cause distortions and therefore must be removed.]]
* DarkIsNotEvil: He's mostly dressed in all black, but he's a good man deep down. [[spoiler:The problem is that, like Sora, he will not compromise on matters that threaten the world, and he will fight to kill the Vice-President because he's an aberration capable of bringing distortion to the world.]]
* GeniusBruiser: [[spoiler:Though his claim to fame is his extensive research and documentation into the Otherworld and Daemons, Hugo is a Pactbearer ''will'' give the TSC the fight of their lives.]]

* GoodIsNotSoft: He shares in the Jingu family's ideology in that he is willing to do whatever he must to protect humanity from the influence of the Otherworld and the Daemons. [[spoiler:This is what leads to his conflict with the TSC, more specifically his unwillingness to allow the Vice-President to exist as he's an aberration and artificial Monark, and therefore must be killed before he can cause distortions in the world.]]
* HeWasRightThereAllAlong: "Deepest Depths" reveals [[spoiler:he's still alive, and true to his notes, he changed his name when he married Sora Jingu and took on her surname]].

* StartOfDarkness: [[spoiler:Sora Jingu's death was this for him. He was so driven to bringing her back that he turned to the Otherworld for the means to do so, which led to him making a pact with the Monark of Woe, Tristia, and in turn led to the events of the game.]]
* ThatManIsDead: He cast aside his old name to live in Japan with a woman he met in Shin Mikado. [[spoiler:In "Deepest Depths", he reclaims his past identity as Hugo Cromwell and more or less disavows his self as "Yugo Jingu" as if to reflect his decision to move on from Sora's death, though this results in Shinya rejecting him in favor of siding with the Vice-President.]]
* VillainousRROD: [[spoiler:It's not immediate, but to Hugo's shock, his Monarks are vanishing even though his Ideals are still intact. Vanitas informs him they ''did'' shatter as he gave up the only thing keeping them sustained: his wish to be with "Sora Jingu". Since he no longer recognizes Tristia as Sora, the reason for his pact is no longer valid and they begin to crumble.]]
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: [[spoiler:Had he not been so driven by grief to try and revive his wife, the Monark of Woe would never have manifested in the human world, the stress of the repeated time loops in Shin Mikado would not have birthed Yoru, and the game would never have happened.]]
