He's a known trouble maker, permanently a D-rank for starting fights with junior adventurers and hazing them, just because he personally thinks they look too weak to do the job, with the guild unable or unwilling to do anything about this hazing, until Aisha and the Guild Master exploit a loop-hole because this thug attacked Myne ''before'' the latter signed up, meaning he just attacked an innocent and unarmed civilian who didn't resist. Learning he now owes a 10 platinum coin (10 million yen) penalty and he's being permanently banned, he goes apoplectic and attacks the guild master. This goes poorly.

* AnArmAndALeg: When he attacks the guild master, he thinks he got a OneHitKill until he notices his arm's missing and the guild master is just fine.
* AnAxeToGrind: He prefers to fight with a huge 2-headed axe.
* AssumedWin: He thought that his attack killed the guild master before the axe attack even landed.
* AxeCrazy: He's a nut-job prone to violence.
* TheBrute: He's got no skill, finesse, or manners. He's just raw strength.
* DumbMuscle: As frequently pointed out by numerous characters, he's got plenty of muscle, but no brains.
* JerkassHasAPoint: He's right to be somewhat angry at the rest of the adventurers when they ratted him out to the guild master, as they were eagerly and happily cheering him on when he was attacking Myne unprovoked. But the attack itself is still his fault as nobody threatened or forced him into it.
* NeverMyFault: Whenever he's called out on his hazing, he always blames the other guy and says that if the guild didn't accept weaklings, he wouldn't have to haze them. When he attacks Myne and is informed he attacked a civilian, resulting in a 10 platinum fine and permanent banning from the guild, he throws a fit and screams that he did nothing wrong, attacking the guild master. This costs him an arm, and his fine is ''increased'' by the amount of money it would take to clean up the mess.
* ScarsAreForever: He's got stitch like scar markings all over his body.
* TheyJustDontGetIt: No matter how many times he's informed by the guild that hazing is not permitted, and attacking junior adventurers is bad form, he honestly believes it's his job to go around beating up "weak" adventurers to ensure only strong people are guild members. It takes a 10 platinum fine, getting banned, and his arm chopped off before he finally gets the message.

An adventurer on the verge of becoming B-rank, he takes an immediate loathing to Myne when the Guild Master assigns Asiha to be Myne's exclusive receptionist, as an apology for Hyoldo's antics. The reason for this mindset quickly becomes apparent as the primary motivation Lyle had in moving up the ranks is that he sees himself as Aisha's destined marriage partner and one-sidedly decided that becoming a high-rank adventurer was what he needed to do to prove himself a worthy lover. When Aisha disagreed, seeing as Lyle was present and did ''absolutely nothing'' as Hyoldo nearly punched her in the face (which could have been fatal, seeing how strong Hyoldo is), he came to the conclusion that killing Myne is the right way to get Aisha to like him "again." When Aisha objected to '''that''', he just straight up tries to kill her "for playing with his feelings." At that point, Myne has had enough, strips his skills away, and beats him down.

* AxeCrazy: He makes Hyoldo look sane by comparison.
* EntitledToHaveYou: To Aisha. He convinced himself that he's her perfect marriage partner, even she has no right to object.
* FingerGun: His skill allows him to fling air with the force of a bullet.
* IfICantHaveYou: When Aisha tells him, to his face, that she won't accept him ''precisely'' because he tried to kill Myne, he tries to kill her too.

* InsaneTrollLogic: Why, if I kill the guy Aisha likes, then she'll like me instead! If I see her running over to help him, the correct course of action is trying to kill her! If my party is objecting to my desire to commit murder, they're traitors that deserve death! How dare they flee when I'm trying to kill them and go to the guild master for help!!!
* LastChanceToQuit: After Myne takes his skills, Myne '''begs''' him to stand down and surrender. When he decides to go after Aisha "because his 'life' is dedicated to Aisha," Myne is left with no option but to swoop in and beat him down to make him finally get the message that he's living in his own little delusion, and the world doesn't work like he thinks it does.
* NotGoodWithRejection: When Aisha turns him down the first time, he tries to kill Myne. The second time, he tries to kill her!
* SelfProclaimedLoveInterest: He tells one and all that Aisha loves him and the only thing standing in their way was the fact that he hasn't reached B-rank.

* DidNotThinkThisThrough: In his paranoid ultimatum that Myne reveal the secret to his skills or face immediate expulsion "for insubordination," he has grievously harmed the reputation of the guild more than Hyoldo or Lyle, combined, ever did. Not only did he paint himself into a corner by having to exile Myne on the spot when the boy firmly, politely, and wisely refused to divulge such personal information, rendering his own authority moot if he didn't, but he also demonstrated to staff and adventurer alike that he wants the guild to be an undisciplined den of hooligans and thugs who go around attacking each other, and staff, all the time, for any reason, or no reason at all, as he pointedly turned a mostly blind eye to Lyle and Hyoldo, as well as many other unnamed adventurers with '''far''' worse behavioral problems, but immediately singled out and eliminated the very, very promising young Myne whose only "violation" was protecting Aisha from thugs '''twice''' and refusing to share very personal information with total strangers. Besides, as most of the staff's later complaints highlight, demanding the secret to Myne's skills wasn't even in his purview in the first place.
* DoubleStandard: He doesn't do anything, aside from verbal rebukes, to deal with known trouble-makers like Hyoldo or Lyle, until their crimes are so grievous that he can't possibly ignore them without serious consequences to himself. When Myne defeats Lyle in single combat, seriously injuring himself, while protecting Aisha, he demands to know the secret to Myne's skills, which everyone, especially himself, knows is very sensitive information, and then just summarily expels Myne for "insubordination" when he refuses. He pointedly ignores the rest of the staff, especially Aisha, when they complain. It's not until Pricess Sylpheed Augusta herself calls him to task that he's willing to admit he seriously screwed up.
* NiceJobFixingItVillain: He's not a villain per se, but his short-sighted and paranoid decision to expel Myne from the guild for basically no reason made Sylpheed's job of scouting, testing, and then marrying Myne, much, much easier, as she can see what he's like with her own eyes, as opposed to having to wait on the guild bureaucracy to try and catch up to Myne's potential.

* AndThenWhat: While it's true that they don't give a damn about the long-term consequences to others, like the fact that the papa dragon is going to lay waste to whatever country he finds his hatchling in, they do care a great deal about their own fates. Presuming they had pulled off the plan to snatch the Fenrir pups without a hitch, mama Fenrir would pick up their scent, and they had tried to kill one of her pups, who can give her their physical appearance too, or barring Myne's rescue, would have left their scents all around the poor pup's corpse. There's no way they'd be able to stop her from tracking them down and taking them out, especially once they've sold off the pups they captured and couldn't use them as hostages anymore.
* AssholeVictim: No tears were shed when Fenrir reduced them to bloody paste.
* CardCarryingVillain: They boast of their villainy, even bragging of their intent to kill Myne when they manage to grab him from behind and (think) they tricked him with illusion magic.
* DidNotSeeThatComing: When the pup Myne rescued is seen alive again as they're about to kill Myne, they're shocked that the pup survived a mortal wound, and attack it. Then they realize too late that the reason the pup was there is because it brought its mother Fenrir with it.
* EntertaininglyWrong: When the group's assassin is chasing after Myne, seeing the latter set up a lace-work of vines, and not knowing Myne is in telepathic communication with the Fenrir pup he rescued, the assassin in question comes to the conclusion that Myne is using the vines as a make-shift radar to track his location, trying to get around his impressive [Presence Concealment] skill, which Myne couldn't simply snatch as the enslaved pups were blocking the attempt. What Myne was '''really''' doing was setting up a snare, to catch him without the intent to harm him, thus foiling the guy's orders to the enslaved pups to protect him from any and all damage Myne might try to dish out.
* EqualOpportunityEvil: Their group is composed of humans and various non-human races, and they brag of their villainy.
* FatalFlaw: Overconfidence. After an extensive career in poaching, they've grown cocky and arrogant, leading to terrible decisions in hindsight. Sure, it was Claude who put a captured dragon hatchling in the basement of Adol, but this party was foolish enough to think they could go and grab Fenrir's pups without a hitch, in a forest surrounded by knights, and knowing full well a recognized Hero was in the area, because that was their secondary target, and they thought simply leaving one of Fenrir's pups mortally wounded was enough to throw mama Fenrir off their trail. Then when they're fighting Myne, they go straight at him, negating their overwhelming advantage in numbers, experience, illusion magic, and concealment skills.
* IHaveYourWife: When Fenrir shows up and starts attacking them in a rage for kidnapping, enslaving, and even trying to kill her pups, they use the enslaved pups as a shield to try and get away. Once Myne has freed the pups, Fenrir pulls no punches and lets them have it, even though Myne has already captured them and rendered them helpless.
* MasterOfIllusion: Another of their nastier tricks is that they use illusion magic to trick their intended prey into lowering its guard.
* OnlyInItForTheMoney: They work for Claude only because it pays well.
* PowerfulButIncompetent: They are high-ranked adventurers with far more experience, cunning, and skills in stealth and illusion far outside Myne's own skill-set, but their own overconfidence causes them to throw away all their advantages and move in ways even Myne can easily predict and counter, resulting in their total defeat, capture, and death. '''Without''' Myne stripping their skills until ''after'' he's got them tied up and helpless.
* PowersDoTheFighting: They've grown completely dependent on their impressive skills doing the heavy lifting for them, so when someone finds a way around them, they fold like a house of cards.
* RevengeMyopia: They collar and abuse Fenrir's pups right in front of her, but when she retaliates, they swear bloody vengeance.
* TheSneakyGuy: They all have powerful concealment skills.
* TrespassingToTalk: After Claude is done insulting Myne, face to face, the first time, after which Claude used his noble title to force the latter into an EngagementChallenge, he finds these guys have sneaked into his home, and are waiting for him in his own antechamber. Claude calls them out for being there, not because they're trespassing, but because if he and they were seen together, it would ruin his PlausibleDeniability for many criminal acts.
* TrueCompanions: They may be villains, and proud of it, but they do truly care about each other.

* CavalryBetrayal: In the manga chapter 44, he uses his [Taming: Advanced] skill to stop an advancing army of undead composed of the former population of Ohse, making himself seem like a good person, but the moment Myne and Luis let their guard down, he attacks Luis to try and kill him and then tries to seize Waffle from Myne for himself.
* EntertaininglyWrong: He judges Myne by appearance and sees him use [Judgement: All] and [Cut] then [Paste]. With most people only having three skills, tops, he presumes Waffle does all the heavy lifting in Myne's fighting, so targets the fenrir pup for capture to make himself stronger.
* EvilCounterpart: To Luis Augusta. They both hail from taming themed [Clans] but all he cares about is his own clan's advancement, no matter the stakes. Luis Augusta cares for the well-being of the kingdom as a whole.

* AnAxeToGrind: He prefers to fight with a massive war-axe.
* BadBoss: He beat up its own generals, and the troops under them, when Myne and company started winning the fight.
* GeniusBruiser: He not only hits hard but is very clever, cunning, and tactically brilliant.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: His own skills are what Myne uses to defeat him.
* ImaginationBasedSuperPower: His "Realize" skill can summon any weapon or tool he's familiar with, and he can keep it around as long as he's got sufficient stamina to maintain it. Myne uses this very skill to summon a holy sword ''he'' is familiar with and uses it to turn this guy to pork-chops.
* ItCanThink: The most dangerous aspect of Orc Kings is that they have very keen tactical and strategic minds. He's the first opponent that realized Myne could steal skills. The previous enemies just stupidly kept trying to use their skills over and over, never realizing why they weren't working.
* MakeMeWannaShout: Combined with CompellingVoice. His [King's Roar] skill both paralyzes his enemies and gives undeniable orders to his henchmen. So when Myne steals the skill, he's able to command the Orc Generals to release Sylpheed and Aisha who were being held hostage. The Orc King is clearly unhappy at that.
* MyDeathIsJustTheBeginning: Myne only managed to destroy the Orc King's body. His soul is still at large, as revealed in manga chapter 38. The soul just roams about looking for a new orc body to possess.
* TaughtByExperience: The same trick doesn't work twice with this guy. He learns from his mistakes and losses and comes back stronger with counter-measures for whatever beat him before.
* ThisCannotBe: Said word for word when he realized Myne snatched his skills.
* WeaponizedTeleportation: His favorite trick is to use his inherent space magic to just suddenly appear behind his enemies, or reach through a portal and smack them down.

In the next encounter, when she hears a dragon accidentally harmed her pup while rampaging, she was willing to declare total war against Jormungandr until Myne and the pup involved, Waffle, talked her down.
* BadassBystander: If she's not provoked or tasked by the god of creation to maintain the BalanceBetweenGoodAndEvil, she won't interfere in the matters of the mortal world.
* BigDamnHeroes: When Myne is grabbed from behind by the biggest and beefiest of Claude's hired adventurers, through using a concealment skill stronger than Myne's detection skills, and threatens to behead the boy, while another member of the party is chasing down the very same Fenrir pup Myne earlier rescued, Fenrir herself shows up and literally rips the latter adventurer to shreds with a swipe of her claws, giving Myne enough of a distraction to escape certain death and retaliate.
* CanisMajor: She's a wolf the size of a house.
* MamaBear: She is very protective of her pups.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: When she unleashes a powerful magical attack at the evil adventurers who kidnapped and enslaved her pups, said adventurers ordered the enslaved pups to stand between Fenrir and themselves. She almost killed her own pups by mistake! Fortunately, Myne was able to use the space-magic he stole from the orc king to redirect the attack harmlessly, for which Fenrir is very, very grateful.
* PhysicalGod: She's so powerful, only the god of creation can rein her in.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: She lets the pup Myne tamed go with him because he's shown her proper reverence and the pup itself asked for it. When said pup is accidentally hurt by a rampaging dragon, enraged by the theft of his own hatchling, she doesn't immediately go to war with said dragon, because she knows how it feels to have her own pups threatened, and fully comprehends where the dragon came from, but is still not happy, and angrily glares at the dragon the entire time he's trying to talk things out.
* ThisIsUnforgivable: Because Myne came to her pups' rescue, she spared humanity, but if it happens again, total extinction, no reprieve.
* TrulySingleParent: She has pups without any visible mate.

When Myne sees that this guy is level 200, and all his other information, including his name, is hidden behind mosaics, he does the smart thing and uses space-magic to teleport to Fenrir's forest, taking the dragons and the fenrir pup with him.
* OurDemonsAreDifferent: Myne doesn't recognize him as a demon because he looks like an elf, but with dark skin. Myne learns he's a demon from Jormungandr.

He somehow manages to slap slave collars on all the knights guarding the forest where Fenrir lives during the hunting competition, allowing him to sadistically taunt Myne in his tent, with Myne helpless to resist, unless he's willing to see the soldiers commit suicide, and also smuggle in his ringers, as opposed to the original novel where they were brought in legitimately and Claude's attempt to entre Myne's tent was blocked, unless Claude was willing to forfeit.
* AmbitionIsEvil: All his villainy is motivated by the desire to inherit the crown he genuinely believes he deserves.
* AristocratsAreEvil: He's the heir to one of the kingdom's founding aristocrats, and he's an arrogant, greedy, power-hungry sadist who won't turn away from any crime he thinks will profit him.
* BribingYourWayToVictory: Attempted, Averted, and Deconstructed. In the novel version, he bribes one of the knights a few days before the hunting competition with Myne to get some item-storage bags in advance, so his hired adventurers could jump the gun and get extra kills. King Augusta saw this coming in advance, so he ordered his knights to accept any bribe attempt and then report it on the sly, giving out item storage bags as requested, but the bags in question would not have magical preservative functions like the ones to be handed out the day of the hunt's official start. This causes Claude to turn in clearly spoiled monster remains, providing hard evidence of his cheating, allowing everyone present to call him out, and the king to arrest him as there are now solid grounds for suspicion.
* ContrivedCoincidence: The only part of his arc that makes little sense is that Claude Roselia happens to live in the back-water town of Lucas, where Myne's house is, and just happened to be nearby when Myne and Sylpheed came out of his house. The story goes into great detail about how Claude is only concerned with wealth and authority, so it begs the question of why such an arrogant and greedy noble would have a mansion in a back-water town with no specialty products, and why he'd be hanging around a house he repeatedly calls a dingy rut, especially since Myne's home is specifically stated to be on the outer fringes of town.
* DefiantToTheEnd: When he's in the royal dungeons being questioned and tortured, he is completely defiant and unyielding, until King Augusta comes into the cell, wielding one of his own slave collars and demonstrates the intent to put it on. At this point, it finally dawns on Claude that this ''is not'' a bluff or a ruse, but it's way, way too little, too late.
* DickDastardlyStopsToCheat: The challenge against Myne in hunting monsters was already stacked in his favor, seeing as he was allowed to have a squad of adventurers hunt in his stead while Myne was hunting alone, but that was not enough. He decides it's a brilliant idea to have his hired adventurers hunt for days in advance of the agreed start of the hunt, not realizing that the item storage bags provided by the knights aren't of the kind that magically preserves the contents. So his cheating is exposed and he's disqualified when he presents clearly spoiled remains as proof of his hunting prowess.
* DramaticIrony: An ancestor of his went after Yukino, Myne's mother, ultimately costing him the crown, and knocking the family down to Baron, the lowest noble rank, for the affront. He independently decides to go after Myne's wife Sylpheed. This completes the process of stripping his family's noble title entirely, and possibly ending his bloodline, since he has no on-screen brothers, sisters, or even extended family.
* EngagementChallenge: After charging Myne with Lese Majeste for daring to retaliate to Claude's insults against his parents and the home they left him, he forces the latter into a hunting contest with the fate of Sylpheed's marriage on the line. King Augusta quietly tells Myne to go along so the kingdom can rightfully investigate the dragon kidnapping issue while Claude's occupied.
* EntitledToHaveYou: To Sylpheed. Even though she herself refused his wedding proposal, he still thinks she's rightfully his, and doesn't stop pursuing her until his schemes to enslave some Fenrir pups and a dragon hatchling blow up and endanger humanity as a whole and cause massive damage in Labyrinth Town, in that order. With him winding up in a cell, questioned by King Augusta, personally, undergoing all kinds of "enhanced interrogation."
* EvenEvilCanBeLoved: When his father has been informed of his villainy and comes to his cell, the father in question ''apologizes'' for failing to be a good parent and still genuinely treasures him. Claude thinks the guy is senile in response.
* EvilFeelsGood: In the manga version, he breaks into Myne's tent, enslaved knights in tow, to force Myne to forfeit, or else, but when he saw Myne psychologically cornered, withdrew his demand and proclaimed how much he enjoyed himself and was looking forward to seeing Myne in even greater despair.
* FatalFlaw: Arrogance and greed. Since he sees himself as inherently superior to others, even calling Fenrir and an ancient dragon "just mindless beasts" and he lets his greed for the wealth that would come from selling enslaved fenrir pups and a dragon hatchling on the black market blind him to the dangers, he put humanity itself at risk from the former, and caused considerable damage to Labyrinth Town with the latter.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: One of his own slave collars is used by King Augusta to enslave him and compel him to confess to all his crimes.
* MilesGloriosus: Since he's an aristocrat with a lot of wealth and authority, he thinks he's vastly superior to Myne on all counts, including being blessed with superior skills, and never stops boasting about it. The truth is that his skills are unknown because the only battles he's even tangentially involved with have been handled by adventurers who serve him for money while he stays home.
* PsychologicalProjection: Since he's an arrogant aristocrat who is only concerned with money and power, to the point of obsession, he presumes all aristocrats, especially the royalty, are similarly obsessed, and can't, for the life of him, understand why Sylpheed prefers Myne, a commoner from the poor side of town, over himself.
* PutOnAPrisonBus: He's last seen in a cell, wondering where he went wrong, even after King Augusta presented his own illegal slave collars to him.
* SlaveryIsASpecialKindOfEvil: He loves to abuse people and animals by slapping them with slave collars and then making them do things that greatly go against their inherent nature or desires and then point and laugh at their suffering. This is so, so illegal, that it merits his entire house getting stripped of its noble title and Claude himself losing any right to be treated as a human being. In fact, in the novel version, King Augusta makes a point of telling Claude that if he was charged with '''high treason''' for his foolish attack on Sylpheed, while she was tending to Myne, ''it would be a lesser charge!''
* SmugSnake: He honestly believes that because he was '''born''' a noble that he's inherently superior to King Augusta who '''earned''' the crown by many heroic feats. This belief in his own superiority is what allowed him to weather torture and make him utterly refuse to divulge his villainy. It's only when King Augusta uses his royal authority to strip away his noble title, which even the gods and his own magic status recognize, that he finally realizes he's in trouble, and when King Augusta threatens him with his own slave collar, he has the gall to call on Myne for help.
* StupidEvil: He first has a dragon hatchling kidnapped and slapped with a slave collar, then hides the poor creature in a basement somewhere in the very, very populated Labyrinth Town, not caring that dragons are ''excellent'' trackers and the hatchling's parents are bound to show up sooner or later, quite unhappy, and the chances that the town will be leveled, as there are precious few adventurers who could not only go toe to toe with a dragon, but win so decisively that the town won't be leveled by the fall out. Then, when he's setting up to outright cheat at the very EngagementChallenge he roped Myne into, over Sylpheed's hand, he has his hired adventurers slap slave collars on Fenrir pups '''right in front of Fenrir herself''', even trying to kill one of them when Fenrir demands the poor pups be returned. And he has the gall to wonder why he finds himself in a cell when all is said and done, with his hired adventurers turned to bloody smears in the forest.
* WhoWouldBeStupidEnough: The reason King Augusta agreed to hold the hunting competition in Fenrir's sacred forest is because he figured even Claude wouldn't be dumb enough to go offend a PhysicalGod by attacking Fenrir's pups. Claude specifically ordered his henchmen to go after them for a price, and the louts were overconfident enough to actually try it.
