Once the Pillar Men are awakened and the heroes are pulled into the conflict, it turns into a race to see who can beat the other to the rings/stone/etc.

However, Kars' Light Mode is capable of cutting through just about anything, and even [[TheTrickster Joseph]] admits that he can't think of any way to get past his blades. He still manages to be a major threat due to his innate inhuman BodyHorror abilities and later his UltimateLifeForm powers and [[ThePowerOfTheSun gained knowledge of the utilization of Hamon]], especially so as Stands weren't as common as they would be in the future.
** Kars unlike the others, with the exception of Yoshikage Kira- a loner- is implied by Wamuu's inference in a hypothetical situation against Caesar that he would lose the fight Wamuu barely won against and even Joseph himself notes he's not as strong as Wamuu- stating that he is not the strongest of the three Pillar Men initially, with [[DragonInChief Wamuu being the most physically powerful of the trio while being subservient to Kars out of loyalty]]; while clashes the usual RankScalesWithAsskicking notion that the other main villains had.
* ConsummateLiar: If he offers you the chance to fight fairly, ''he's planning to skew the playing field in his favour so hard it hurts''. However, he's so good at sounding convincing that it's easy to be fooled by him.
* DeathByIrony: [[spoiler:His immortality and adaptive ability are what ends up doing him in. When Joseph launches him into space, he curls up and evolves a thick shell to protect himself from the adverse conditions. He remains adrift in space, and his mind eventually shuts down.]]
* DiagonalCut: His Brilliant Bone Blade is so sharp, it can deliver a clean cut that only falls apart after a few seconds. Stroheim finds out, and so do some vampires who get in the way of Kars' fight with Lisa Lisa.

** Kars also counts as one to Joseph. Much like Joseph, Kars is a lot more cunning than his build would initially imply and can also be [[EvilIsPetty petty when things don't go his way or he is disrespected]]. He also shows himself to be a CombatPragmatist willing to perform amoral actions in order to tilt a battle in his favour. However, unlike Joseph, [[CharacterDevelopment who eventually learns to honour his opponents]] by [[spoiler:showing Wamuu his respect after their final fight]], Kars never shows this tendency and [[spoiler:is not only willing to stab Lisa Lisa in the back during their fight, but [[KickThemWhileTheyAreDown kick her while she's down]] for good measure]]. The parallels between the two are even more obvious after [[spoiler:said backstabbing]] when Kars notes to Joseph that he only cares about retrieving the Red Stone and any method to do that is acceptable to him, [[MirrorCharacter which is a similar line that Joseph himself said during his final fight with Wamuu.]]
* EvilIsPetty: Had he chosen to ignore Joseph after [[spoiler:his ascension]], he might've had a less grotesque fate. Justified in that he was expecting [[spoiler:to just squish him like a bug since he's that powerful now, and he was almost right considering what happened instead was actually out of [[ContrivedCoincidence sheer coincidence]]]].
* EvilLaugh: Underneath his stoicism, he's got an epically hammy laugh fitting for a [=JoJo=] BigBad.
* EvilSoundsDeep: When he isn't screeching like a banshee, Kars has a deep, husky voice to match his menacing stature.
* FantasticRacism: Unlike Esidisi and Wamuu, who only view humans as inferior in terms of evolution, Kars takes this a step further and sneers at any being that isn't a Pillar Man, be they human or vampire. This only intensified when he became a demigod as the Ultimate Being, with him now treating animals like toys despite him selflessly saving a stray dog previously.
* FateWorseThanDeath: [[spoiler:His final fate at the end of Part 2 is floating through space, immortal and frozen. Eventually, he simply turns his brain off.]]
* FatalFlaw: Stubborness and ambition. Kars desires to become the ultimate lifeform and "conquer the Sun", and he's willing to sacrifice anything, from his own people to his moral standards, if they interfere with that goal. This obsession is implied to be the reason why he keeps chasing the Red Stone of Aja instead of trying to find an alternative method to evolve himself: he has decided to use the Stone (possibly also because of the idea of using the Sun's light to transform himself), so he will keep chasing it no matter what. This allows Lisa Lisa to make him back off by threatening to destroy the Stone. Later on, [[spoiler:he gains the ability to use Hamon, an ability based on ThePowerOfTheSun, and immediately decides to use it on Joseph. This directly leads to Kars' defeat]].

Had Wamuu won his duel with Joseph, Kars would have to uphold his promise to Wamuu to fight Lisa Lisa fairly, a promise that would have likely resulted in his loss.]]
