* ForWantOfANail: Gaining a Stand from the arrow caught Gendo's attention, and he tried to have Shinji train with the EVA as a result. This led to the discovery that boosting the armor meant to be a RestrainingBolt would calm the titans, and even resulted in Yui being released.

* ForWantOfANail: His presence in Antarctica and his Stand awakening there prevents Adam's destruction (the trigger for Second Impact) from messing up the world big time.

* SelfFulfillingProphecy: After losing Yui, he fell into a depression and nearly went through with his canon decision to send Shinji away to avoid being a bad father to him. Nu Mikitakazo Nshi stopped him by pointing out that by leaving Shinji without telling him why, he was turning into the very person he was afraid of becoming. * ForWantOfANail: His arrival on Earth was only to repair Lilith, who was suffering an unforeseen glitch. The resulting incident caused the original apes to splinter in evolution, creating the Gigans.

* ForWantOfANail: If not for Adam's intervention, humanity could have been wiped out thousands of years ago when the Stand virus started spreading from the Cape York meteorite. Instead, a large portion of humans were rewired to be able to withstand the virus and gain power from it.

* CloningBlues: Averted. His homunculus body was actually made from multiple genetic sources, making his appearance completely original.

* IDidWhatIHadToDo: He points out to Shinji that most of them didn't have much choice when they signed on with SEELE. Given their cybernetics double as a sort of life support, it's likely he and the others were made to believe only SEELE could make their bodies whole again.

* RelatedDifferentlyInTheAdaptation: In ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'', Shining Armor is Twilight Sparkle's older brother. Here, he's the brother of Twilight's friend Rainbow Dash instead, albeit as twin siblings, while Twilight Sparkle is his grandmother through her husband [[Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventurePhantomBlood Speedwagon]].

* INeverSaidItWasPoison: Inverted. A challenge to Shinji from an unknown individual refers to him as "that Joestar boy". But since Lorenz didn't know Shinji had a marital connection to the Joestar clan, it's clear he wasn't the one who sent it.

* AdaptationalHeroism: Her canon counterpart clearly loved her son Shinji, but she is AmbiguouslyEvil in that she willingly went through with a plan involving her getting absorbed into EVA Unit-01, and inflicting severe emotional trauma upon Shinji through Gendo, who became a cold, manipulative, and neglectful father. Here, while she still ended up inside Unit-01, it's because she was tricked into testing it by Lorenz Keel in hopes of binding Gendo to him as an UnwittingPawn. Thankfully, Gendo was able to find a way to rescue her and restore her back to normal, having been motivated by Nu Mikitakazo Nshi to have a JerkassRealization.

Fortunately, thanks to Nu Mikitakazo Nshi's intervention, Gendo has a JerkassRealization and is motivated to research alternative ways to rescue Yui, eventually succeeding in doing so.

* MisplacedWildlife: Pen Pen is an erect-crested pengion, native to New Zealand. But Misato found him in Antarctica. Somewhat justified given his Stand, but that still leaves the question of how he got there in the first place.
